- inactive, on 05/08/2009, -1/+133This is just freaking horrible that stuff like this happens. And to a 5 year old boy no less.
- lepetitmousse, on 05/09/2009, -1/+132uhh does this journalist know what scalping actually is? the boy would be dead.
in any case, still a horrible story. - Octanum, on 05/09/2009, -1/+112Yeah, I mean this wasn't just simple assault, the kid has brain damage.
- AmyVernon, on 05/08/2009, -2/+73What a horrible, horrible story.
- eifersucht12a, on 05/09/2009, -1/+69SCALPED?!
- SSPink, on 05/09/2009, -1/+66I was thinking the same thing, she keeps using that word, I do not think it means what she thinks it means.
Seriously, anyone know what the hell is she even referring to? - allyclark, on 05/08/2009, -0/+65And I thought name calling and teasing was bad at that age. HE WAS 5! That is too young to be dealing with such violent bullying. I would be very interested in knowing how old the kids were that did this to him. This just breaks my heart.
- REbloggirl, on 05/09/2009, -3/+64Jesus, I would lose my ***** if this happened to my son (4). I can tell you right now, the teachers watching, the children involved, their parents, extended family and possibly pets would never be the same when i was through with them.
- swern425, on 05/09/2009, -1/+56"He was also hit, kicked, teased and ridiculed. As a result, Lachlan suffered a minor brain injury affecting his left upper limb function, speech and co-ordination..."
A "minor" brain injury can be very major when it effects such things as motor function and speech. It doesn't mention permanent damage, but that's besides the point. - charm803, on 05/09/2009, -0/+41Maybe she meant that he was pulling the kids hair and pulling chunks of hair and skin in the process.
I thought the same thing, if he was scalped, he would be more than brain damaged...he'd be dead. - TalSiach, on 05/08/2009, -0/+37150k????? yeah right.... now everything is ok... just a crying shame.
- jivatmanx, on 05/09/2009, -0/+37***** lord of the flies in schools these days. Parents are overworked and can't find the energy to give a *****, don't have enough children for an older brother to come and beat the ***** out of the bully.
- bluerei, on 05/09/2009, -1/+30"The kid wasn't brain damaged, read the story again."
His brain was injured, or another word you can use is "damaged". So if there was damage to the brain, that means he has brain damage.
"...read the story again". - panacean, on 05/09/2009, -3/+31The bully was trying to sell the kid overpriced Nine Inch Nail tickets. What an ass.
- shane956, on 05/09/2009, -5/+32it all comes down to crappy parenting. If you need a license to drive a car, you should need a license to have kids.
- acdcfanbill, on 05/09/2009, -1/+26well, then the last guy with one eye left can be king.
- JFitzpatrick, on 05/09/2009, -1/+24Agreed. Bitches would be slapped. Small children would be sucker punched.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+22That would be nice..
Every cent. - lizard450, on 05/09/2009, -1/+22I am quite glad my parents taught me to stand up to bullies. In 1st grade I punched a 4th grader who was bullying me... from that day on I never heard from him again.
So be mindful bullies of today. There are still those among us with our spines intact. I may not pass your test of my cowardice for words no longer bother me. Rest assured that when you cross the line I will stand up against what is wrong. Please just remember that now, as an adult I carry a gun. :) - SwiftKick34, on 05/09/2009, -11/+32Leaves the whole world blind.
- LonelyTylenoL, on 05/09/2009, -1/+22As a student myself, I can say schools are doing more harm then help.
Sure they help you think and give you a general education, but the psychological and emotional repercussions are tremendous, not to mention the physical wear.
Our schools need to be improved, NOW! - swizzcheez, on 05/09/2009, -0/+20What the ***** is wrong with our species?
- Elijah17, on 05/09/2009, -2/+22Not to play the "internet tough guy" card, but if I ever come across anyone doing something like this to another human being, there will be hell to pay.
Especially if the perpetrator is a child. I hear they're weaker than adults... - johnbonham1, on 05/09/2009, -0/+20I think scalping and stoning go a little beyond bullying. This kid's lucky to be alive.
BTW the article gives little information, does anyone know a better article on this? - Amlethus, on 05/09/2009, -2/+20Either start working on changing his behavior, or just lock him up for life now. I can't see a kid who is that bad at that age changing easily.
- majkeli, on 05/09/2009, -1/+19As a result, Lachlan suffered a minor brain injury affecting his left upper limb function, speech and co-ordination,
Sounds like brain damage to me. - hybrid45, on 05/09/2009, -1/+18@SSPink
Why are you still talking? Is there any other way you can explain motor skill and speech problems? His body doesn't work right because of the DAMAGE that was caused to his BRAIN.
Take your own advice and read the story again. - LonesomeFighter, on 05/08/2009, -4/+21i was once told an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. but now that i think about it, that only works if everyone is evil.
- norman619, on 05/09/2009, -1/+18The parents of these children should be sued since they made these little monsters. They should be forced to take some responsibility for this. They sould also lose custody of these children since they have proven leaving children in their care puts the welfare of other children in danger. These rabid children have no business interacting with other children until they have undergone therapy and he damage done by their parents is undone.
- bart5986, on 05/09/2009, -0/+16I'm from Australia and I'm not sure what they mean either.
- Ymeg, on 05/09/2009, -1/+17It's not the school who should be paying.
- jumpenjack, on 05/09/2009, -0/+15i kinda agree but the kid was scalped.where were the teachers?
- DifferentAngle, on 05/09/2009, -0/+15Scalping doesnt always kill:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalping - kd1s, on 05/09/2009, -0/+15I hate to say this but the kid is ***** for life. And $150K is nowhere near enough compensation.
- alexidoid, on 05/09/2009, -0/+14he wasn't actually "scalped", I think the author is misusing the word.
- BeShirtHappy, on 05/09/2009, -0/+14I'm assuming that the case was just settled.
- JFitzpatrick, on 05/09/2009, -1/+14Leave the pets out of it. Save your rage for the actual spawn and their idiot parents.
- Ymeg, on 05/09/2009, -0/+13http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Robert_McGee,_sc ...
It looks like he survived. - robflynn, on 05/09/2009, -0/+13I am not even sure I agree with that, in regards to helping you think. I often even question the general education bit. I have seen some fairly poor examples of education come out of the school system lately. Though, I suppose I could be experiencing "bitter old man syndrome" at an early age.
I definitely agree that some kind of improvement is definitely needed. - scubachef11, on 05/09/2009, -4/+15wow people are digging you down..?
- steelreserve211, on 05/09/2009, -1/+12They're still pissed about that whole prison colony thing.
- bluerei, on 05/09/2009, -0/+11I never said he currently has or will always have brain damage. I was talking about at the time of his injuries.
And it did specifically mention damage to the brain. If there is an injury big enough to affect his left upper limb function, speech and co-ordination, then that makes a pretty valid argument of brain damage. - passedoutghost, on 05/09/2009, -0/+11Scalping has the same meaning in Australia as it does in the US. I think the author has a limited vocabulary.
- JFitzpatrick, on 05/09/2009, -0/+10I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. All the offenses described in the article didn't happen in a single day. At what point was the damage severe enough that someone actually stepped in to protect the child? What kind of negligence is required to continue sending your child to school after they are so terrified they piss themselves, get run into a wall, bashed in the head with stones, kicked, cut, scraped up, and ultimately have brain damage?
- jivatmanx, on 05/09/2009, -0/+10I think that we need to have social punishment in school for bullies. Stocks and give the other kids things to throw, dunce hats, sitting in the corner facing the wall, ect.
Essentially...
Anything that causes the other children to laugh or snicker at a bully is probably the single most powerful psychological deterrent against a bullying. And even more important, giving a bullied child such a relief, to laugh at the bully and feel some redress of grievance, is extremely, extremely healing. - SSPink, on 05/09/2009, -7/+17@charm803
He wasn't brain damaged, (I got that impression the first time I read the article too) the article said he "suffered a minor brain injury". An injury (i.e., concussion), not damage. The author's use of the word "suffered" which is most often used with brain damage is what makes this easy to misconstrue.
While what happened is no doubt despicable and completely unacceptable, I think the author is going out of her way to make the story sound as sensational as possible. - wannaBdug, on 05/08/2009, -13/+23SO horrifying. 150k is not nearly enough money. An eye for an eye I say.
- DifferentAngle, on 05/09/2009, -0/+9hair loss was mentioned, so maybe some of his hair was violently pulled out
