- gcnaddict, on 01/02/2009, -55/+603What's bad is the fact that even as the FBI urged AirTran to let the family fly, AirTran refused. Granted, this is an account from one of the family members, but still...
AirTran won't be getting my money, ever. I've never flown with them, and I never will. Racists don't deserve funding. - raf4far, on 01/02/2009, -36/+388Imagine the children. They were taken off the plane and had their parents questioned by the FBI asking them if they are terrorists. After that they were refused to fly. How does that send a message of religious freedom?
- krets, on 01/02/2009, -33/+268Aside from the fact that this is clearly racial profiling and a civil rights violation, if I was a passenger on that flight I would have been absolutely furious that I had to get off the plane and re-board because of some ***** racist idiots (like ventuspotens above.)
- smoothmedia, on 01/02/2009, -13/+227Thats brutal. I've had that exact same conversation in a airplane before. Only difference is that I was a white guy when I said it.
- Solkre, on 01/02/2009, -6/+196Are you not a white guy now?
- mhelal2, on 01/02/2009, -29/+184We will do the prayer where ever we want, nobody will control us.
It's non of your business to tell us how to behave. If you are treated as slave before, I don't think we should do the same like you especially when the people didn't say something bad, they just got profiled. - GVR90, on 01/02/2009, -10/+123US' War on _________ : Mission Accomplished
- luseton, on 01/02/2009, -18/+131I bet AirTran did not want to embarrass the passengers who made the initial report. Sigh... I say, sue the hell out of AirTran.
- californicator, on 01/02/2009, -4/+1141. They bought a ticket
2. They went through TSA screening without trouble
Perhaps someone can educate me on WTF you're implying... - thenativeraver, on 01/02/2009, -9/+103http://digg.com/users/JimmySpaza/history
He's just your average bigot. - compgeek, on 01/02/2009, -12/+102I would totally support this guys move to file a civil rights lawsuit. The damn FBI cleared them of wrongdoing and they were still refused service. There is no way the airline can justify this. Their civil rights were clearly violated. Hope the airline gets spanked hard for this by a civil court judge. May they bleed money through every orifice.
Not a Muslim but I don't support anybody being racist like this especially a large business. I guess I know what airline will never get my cash.Who knows they may start not liking mixed race people soon if that happens I'm screwed (half white half black here) - Altmnop, on 01/02/2009, -4/+92AirTran slogan taken from their website: go. there's nothing stopping you.
- mhelal2, on 01/02/2009, -19/+103I think you are just a freak like the other freaks on the air plane, the Muslim people were talking in English idiot, if they are planing for something they could talk in Arabic and good luck to understand any thing.
It happened with one of my friends, he used to wrok on hotel and he was talking to a Muslim woman needed it help to find some where to stay, and people contacted the FBI, and the FBI contacted him asking him what was going on.
Americans are getting freaked, you will live you life scared and terrified (what a life).
The terrorist manged to freak you out, but they will never freak me out, I will never live scared like you do.
Enjoy your life being scared!!!!! - Niallgriff, on 01/02/2009, -8/+86Jimmy, do you even believe your own nonsense?
- pintomp3, on 01/02/2009, -9/+86seems like a lot of the diggers here would have muslims wear nice armbands for easier identification.
- johndaves, on 01/02/2009, -9/+85What doesn't make sense is that the family wanted to be rebooked on a later flight and AirTran refused. AirTran should have atleast done that!
- MikeMitchell, on 01/02/2009, -3/+73I saw this wanna be tough wigger type guy getting on the plane, and outloud he says "I'm about to bitchslap this flight attendant"
our plane sat for 20 minutes, a guy walks on, takes the guy off the plane and were on our way....
now THAT is worth removing someone from a plane for.....I have said the "safest seat on the plane" thing a number of times....obviously not a problem if you're white. - rescu911, on 01/02/2009, -13/+79I'm pretty sure I've discussed airport security and said, 'Wow, the jets are right next to my window.' at some point or another. I guess it's a good think I don't "look" Muslim. Paranoid much?
- funkyjunk3, on 01/02/2009, -18/+81Contact AirTran and remind them that things like this only make for bad business:
http://www.airtranairways.com/contact/contact_phon ...
*Be Courteous, but be firm and to the point. - viet10, on 01/02/2009, -7/+68it was clearly profiling. if they had been east asian or white.. itd be brushed off as normal conversation.
- Ellipsys, on 01/02/2009, -10/+711. Kudos to the FBI - Even the suspect said how professional they were, and that they conducted a swift and informed investigation, cleared them of any wrongdoing, and sent them on the way.
2. Air Tran ***** up - After they were cleared of wrong doing, it would have been nice if they would have just booked them. I don't blame the FBI or the airline from having them investigated, but after the investigation was over they should have done the right thing. I don't fly AirTran now, and I'd never fly them again if that happened to me. Now would be a great time for another airline to step in and give their family free tickets (Hint Hint, Virgin America!) just to show that not all airlines are run by *****. They absolutely deserve an apology from not letting them rebook after they were cleared, but not for the investigation in the first place.
3. Really hope the lawyer doesn't sue because his feelings were hurt. This society is litigious enough. I'd like to him to show a little restraint and do what all of us who are incapable (read as: White, Male, "Big 3" East Asian, or any combination of the above) of filing a discrimination suit whenever someone wrongs us tend to do: take our business elsewhere. Some bitchy Southwest flight attendant gave me an inquisition of why I was trying to board early because I didn't "look sick". I told them of my condition and that that I didn't expect to be diagnosed by a flight attendant, but I didn't rush home and draw up a discrimination against disabled persons lawsuit. I just don't fly Southwest anymore. - absurdist, on 01/02/2009, -4/+64Because they're Americans with EXACTLY the same rights that you have, you racist sack of *****?
- CedEx, on 01/02/2009, -8/+67That's a stupid idea! I've seen overt religious prayers in on planes by Christians before their meal and no one seems to have a problem with that. If a Muslim did the same thing, all of a sudden this person's a terrorist? Don't be paranoid! You're just falling right into the laps of your government officials who have obviously convinced you that you should be afraid.
- chennai43, on 01/02/2009, -16/+71It is ridiculous! Either the airline staff are so paranoid or just plain dumb! BTW, this is not the first time something like this is happening .... I guess there is a lawsuit on its way against AirTran ......
- Annihilia, on 01/02/2009, -1/+54Oh yeah! Well for a thousand generations my people were hacked apart inch by inch by midgets wielding tiny stone knives coated in lemon juice while having tabasco sauce poured into their eyes and Icy-Hot applied to their genitals. Of course, I wasn't alive to witness or experience any of it.. but regardless, top that!!
Stop playing who's the bigger victim. Of course it's racism. - FongoBongo, on 01/02/2009, -11/+63so you're down with the obvious racial profiling going on here. You are what's wrong with this world. its people like you who prevent progress from ever occurring and its people like you who would gladly give up their civil liberties for "security."
- mihiryouthere, on 01/03/2009, -0/+51The Curious Case of Michael Jackson
- EarlOfLade, on 01/02/2009, -5/+54If they had been denied to fly based on their appearance and religion, then yes. And I am an atheist just in case you wondered.
- idiotech, on 01/02/2009, -5/+54Pretty bad logic, Jimmy.
I'm not sure how old you are, but generally, most sensible people know that it's plain stupid to make examples of random innocent people. That sort of thing only angers and incenses whatever lunatics/terrorists that are looking for a reason to do something stupid.
Furthermore, what you're saying is pretty offensive. It's never a good idea to say "great" to racism or the mistreating of people based on colour/relgion... I mean, that's pretty prehistoric. You should know that much by now, no matter how old you are. There's plenty of muslims fighting for the US in iraq, try to actually think things through. Maybe it's just who you are... - 007kz, on 01/02/2009, -1/+49And here, I thought that Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay was just all exaggeration :(
- Annihilia, on 01/02/2009, -8/+55You're an idiot.
- dty2010, on 01/02/2009, -0/+47Except for, of course, AirTran.
- lolwaffle, on 01/02/2009, -20/+66AirTran is the most piece of ***** ghetto airline I've ever flown. I've flown around the world multiple times, and have no allegiance to any, as I just fly what my employers put me on. They are the only airline that has ever lost my luggage, and they are so "fly by night" that their flights didn't even appear on the large screens with flight and gate info. It doesn't surprise me that they pull stuff like this.
- absurdist, on 01/02/2009, -5/+49Unfortunately, given his comment history, I'm afraid he does.
- savagemutt, on 01/02/2009, -9/+52Do you also support restricting white guys from renting Ryder trucks?
- cmost, on 01/02/2009, -7/+50This is what happens when a government uses fear to scare the public to the point where ordinary people take leave of their common sense. I'm sure most people thought the airline did its "civic duty" in removing this innocent family from the plane. Now must we mind our every word? Our actions? What other perfectly innocent behavior will be misconstrued as a terrorist plot? In the words of Chevy Chase in 'Christmas Vacation' "may we blink?"
- Andrwmorph, on 01/02/2009, -2/+44They were also stupid enough to treat an attorney this way.
- breadfred, on 01/02/2009, -0/+42OUR airplanes? You hold stock with them do you? I own that plane just as much as you do. And I am not even American. I might share the same skin color. But tell you what, mate, you got issues. Go see a psychiatrist, because, man, you are way out there. I better stop this rant as I am running out of comma's.
- idiotech, on 01/02/2009, -2/+44Jimmy,
Let's do a refresher for everyone.
When Jimmy calls people liberals, he's (attempting) to attack peoples' beliefs. (Instead of making an actual, substantial argument.
When people use logic to respond to Jimmy - trying to explain that a. this is racism and why or b. why this is wrong, especially in this event c. why it was pointless - they are making relevant, substantial points.
See the difference? Jimmy did. Thanks for allowing everyone to so clearly understand this sort of fallacy, Jimmy. We're all very impressed with what you learned today in grade school, but let's try to stick to the topic. :) - Zenham, on 01/02/2009, -5/+46Here's an idea for you paranoid racist caucsians: stop using arabic numerals too. It's high time you used math from your own heritage.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -8/+48So this is what Fox News does to you...
- lystig, on 01/02/2009, -2/+42He is Michael Jackson in reverse.
- publiclurker, on 01/02/2009, -0/+38I personally wouldn't mind it if the bigots here would keep their hoods on. It wold make it a lot easier to block them in-mass.
- pintomp3, on 01/02/2009, -10/+47there are a few groups that are still ok to discriminate against in the US, including muslims, gays, and atheists.
- FeargusMcDuff, on 01/02/2009, -8/+45***** off my digg you rascist.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -13/+49Jimmy your a total moron.
- dty2010, on 01/02/2009, -3/+38I wasn't aware that Random American Muslim had control of how people were treated in Muslim nations. Any kind of extremist is bad, don't treat all Muslims like extremists.
- protogenxl, on 01/02/2009, -6/+40Some where there is a lawyer going "Cha-Ching, Cha-Ching, Cha-Ching, Cha-Ching,"
- pintomp3, on 01/02/2009, -5/+38solid: are you proposing we model our laws to be inline with iran?
- pintomp3, on 01/02/2009, -11/+44"every business has the right to refuse service to anyone." any person, not an entire group based on race, religion, or sexual orientation. unless you are proposing we go back to letting business not serve blacks at the lunch counter.
