SWAT Team Killed Mayor's Dogs In Botched Pot Raid (VIDEO) watch!
youtube.com — Mayor Cheye Calvo got home from work, saw a package addressed to his wife on the front porch, and brought it inside, putting it on a table. Suddenly, police with guns drawn kicked in the door and stormed in, shooting to death the couple's two dogs and seizing the unopened package. In it were 32 lbs of marijuana. But the drugs weren't theirs.

- sungam3D, on 08/09/2008, -44/+1Hes so calm because hes so baked, look at him. STONER!
He bought the drugs over the internets off columbian drug lords, addressed it to his wife. n got ***** over, so now he has to goto little jimmy down the street and buy jewish dime bags.
I'd be pissed off too!
N ***** 32pounds of Mary Jane. thats like 512 Oz of the *****, ! Oz is like $300 if its hydro..... $153k of weed. man I need his dealer... Fukn home delivered BY FED EX!, NICE!
How couold u NOT smell it BTW?- winmywii, on 08/09/2008, -2/+3I couldn't tell you what it smells like.
- norman619, on 08/09/2008, -47/+3They are dogs. It's not like they shot his kids.
- illinoise89, on 08/09/2008, -1/+35You obviously don't have dogs.
- ZzFDKzZ, on 08/09/2008, -1/+8Drop dead norman.
- OneRottenTomato, on 08/09/2008, -1/+9Nice. Sounds like you never raised a dog, have kids of your own, or a conscience.
- norman619, on 08/09/2008, -11/+1I have a little girl and a dog. I would not shed a tear if the dog died. It is a dog. It is not human and it's not my flesh and blood. It's called perspective. You guys need to get some.
- caferrell, on 08/09/2008, -0/+11norm, the police broke into his house - no knock, the broke the door down ran in killed his dogs cuffed his child and his mother in law, left them both right next to the dead dogs.
You need a little perspective. Do you think that should go on in America? I hope soembody sends some weed to your house and see how your perspective is working moron - bulletmoy, on 08/09/2008, -0/+10Oh so your telling me you wouldn't be upset if you were raided with no warrants and your little girl had to watch you dog get shot by a bunch of blood thirsty cops, And after all this your going to tell her "its alright its just a dog, there is more ***** up ***** then this going on so don't sweat it"?
- OneRottenTomato, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7lol If the only perspective you see, norm, is that people are all up in tizzy over two dead dogs, then it is quite clear that you really have no clue what this story is all about.
- l800LEMMINGS, on 08/09/2008, -1/+36yeah I'm surprised how well the mayor carried himself so calm and professional and not calling attention to what they did to him personally as much as what they do to the community as a whole
- peestandingup, on 08/09/2008, -2/+15If someone just up & shot my dogs like that, nomatter who it was, I honestly dont know if I could control myself. I can tell you one thing, they would regret it because I'd probably beat them within an inch of their life.
- EverTheCynic, on 08/09/2008, -3/+19I find it somewhat hard to believe that you would succeed at beating a SWAT team to within an inch of their lives.
- peestandingup, on 08/09/2008, -2/+13^Then I guess I'd just have to get the douche bag's name who pulled the trigger & beat his ass afterwards wouldn't I. Even if it took years, he'd be sorry.
- Pusod, on 08/10/2008, -7/+1^i would hate to be your enemy... i FEAR you! I feel like taking a ***** now... thats how much i fear you.

They are the most vicious, foul, cruel and bad tempered rodents!
- oxdeltaxo, on 08/09/2008, -0/+28Why is it policy for the police to shoot any dog, whether or not it's aggressive, if it's just lying there or running away? I could understand if it bit someone or if it was growling or barking, but if it was just chillin, then why?
- Jedakiah, on 08/09/2008, -2/+23Police are cat people.
- drmangrum, on 08/09/2008, -11/+4Because dogs can be trained. For instance, police and military working dogs are a very well behaved and agreeable animals...until the command is given. The moment the dog is told to attack it can easily kill or maimed. Do you think law enforcement and the military are the only ones that can train a dog to do that? The drug cartels have proven to be every bit, if not more so, resourceful than the agencies that are stop them. It's safer to have SOP be to neutralize a potential danger than run the risk.
It may be cold and unfeeling, but I would much prefer a a dead dog, than a family live with a very preventable loss.. - nocash23, on 08/09/2008, -0/+22if you kill a cop dog you are tried as if you killed an officer. shouldnt cops be held to the same degree (as if they shot a civilian)?
- diggydougie, on 08/10/2008, -0/+8Because a pissed off suspect will act irrationally an attack the officer who shot the animal. Then it's open season on the suspect. They love that.
- 28dayslater, on 08/10/2008, -1/+8Because cops are pieces of *****.
- shodanx, on 08/10/2008, -0/+0diggydougie just hit it out of the park
don't give violent people guns anda license to kill FOR *****'S SAKE - LeeSoong, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Can you Taser a dog ?
- lennybird, on 08/09/2008, -1/+29Okay, these SWAT guys are trained in deadly force with automatic weapons, are taught to instantly and instinctively discern friend or foe humans, yet they can't ***** control their trigger finger on ***** dogs?
Sounds like some rednecks were eager to shoot something.- drmangrum, on 08/09/2008, -14/+2You're an idiot. Stop and think WHY it's SOP for them to shoot dogs on sight. Stop thinking with your heart and not your head. They don't make rules like that on a lark, there are reasons, which I've posted above.
- therickenator, on 08/10/2008, -1/+1I think you're the idiot. Maybe the larger dog could have seemed like an attack dog but a puppy running away from you is not a very serious threat even if it could be vicious.
- shodanx, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3drmangrum you're an idiot, anyone who would kill an innocent (human or animal) or even just violate his rights out of fear (even fear of death)
just doesn't deserve to wear the badge
there's a reason why people say cops are putting their life at risk
it's because THEY SHOULD PUT THEIR LIFE AT RISK
if they kill on sight all babies with cellphones in their hands they weren't taking lots of risk wouldn't you say ?
- Iztikeit, on 08/09/2008, -3/+1Reminds me of the Dave Chappelle show episode.
- bulletmoy, on 08/10/2008, -0/+11I had something like this happen to me. I locked my self out of my house so i had to go threw the window. Just after smoking a bowl about ten minutes later there were two cops outside my door. Me being the paranoid stoner that i am thought they were there for drugs for some reason. So i hid my stash and took a shower hoping they would go away. when i got out of the shower there were about 6 cop cars out side. Well eventually they broke in, and 5 cops with guns and flashlights pointed at my head came into my room. Well it turns out they thought i was breaking into my own house. after i proved to them it was my house and i in fact did live there, they took me out of the handcuffs i had been in for about an hour. One of them stated i was lucky that the gun i owned wasn't insight because "they were just waiting to blow my head off" Anyways something needs to be done about these trigger happy ass holes.
- alijoon, on 08/10/2008, -1/+4***** THE POLICE
- Tyrghast, on 08/10/2008, -0/+12The worst part is THIS EVEN ISN'T ABOUT THE DOGS!!! They knew the box contained marijuana, and rather than following procedure and stopping the package once they found out it's contents, they let the package continue to the house. They then carried out an illegal search and seizure in a violent manner. What should have happened is that the package be confiscated, a sherriff or detective dispatched to see if the suspects could be interviewed in a calm and efficient manner, etc. etc.
From the get-go there was no need for violence.- LeeSoong, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Time to call RePet.
- fuwath, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Reminds me of the time my friends place was mistakenly raided by the police. Went through the door and shot their two dogs. - rewinn, on 08/09/2008, -4/+144The militarization of our police leads to many deaths, no reduction in actual crime. But the lure of the free money and equipment for more, more, more SWAT teams is hard to resist.
- Sentiax, on 08/10/2008, -8/+2You my friend are ignorant. The establishment of SWAT teams in formerly violent cities drastically reduces the amount and severity of violent crime in an area. They also save far more innocent lives than they take from those asking for it. This is an extreme example of SWAT behavior and it's sad that people like you believe that you can generalize the entire police force of America because of it. You don't want SWAT go live in a country with a ballistics weapons ban, or better yet a city not having a ballistics weapons ban in lower class America.
- Killwize, on 08/10/2008, -1/+2Ignorant? You sound like the ignorant one. Wake up!
The militarization of our police is downright DANGEROUS and WRONG, another step in the same direction of Nazi Germany? Don't believe so, Go read a ***** book about Germany in the 30s and 40s! Any non-fiction will do! It's called Fascism, "my friend," you don't have to be a Nazi to be a fascist! Everyday America slips deeper and deeper in to the clutch of this human condition and people like you only help it along!
"lives than they take from those asking for it." You EVIL Pompous ASS HOLE!
SWAT is just a bunch of legalized CRIMINALS killing the ones they hate. Murdering under the LIE of "doing good," Sounds like SCUM OF THE EARTH to me!!
It saddens me that people like you actual believe that the police are some super human type unable to do wrong, and impervious to the evils of the "common goal!"
Any situation where you have a "brotherhood" of people, you will have the same evil manifiest it's self, be it Street Gangs, Police Gangs, or Military Gangs! All of them practicing a power that must be extinguish immidietly, or evil will ensue in many forms, All exercising extreme uses of powers over their fellow human being!
THIS IS NOT FREEDOM! THIS IS SLAVERY!
What next? Secret Police and Neighborhood Surges nazi style? (Oh wait, the next president already said he liked the idea!) - VBDon, on 08/10/2008, -1/+1I'll believe what you say when they make it illegal for police to take steroids. Too many of them are over-bulked and under-brained. The steroids that cops take have made them over aggressive and excessively violent. As a resut, we have too many shootings of unarmed civilians both on the street and in their homes by psyco cops.
- Sentiax, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1I'm pretty sure I know more than both of you. My father is a police officer. None of them take steroids and they are randomly drug tested all year every year. If anyone is found to have any type of illegal substance they are immediately relieved of their badge and place under prosecution. You have NO idea what you are talking about and are counting on the ignorance of digg to support you. Police are not super human, and my father isn't even a good father, but he's not a horrible human being, and he does what he can to uphold the laws of our city. As well as many of the people he works with. Don't tell me I'm ignorant my whole life has been around the police and swat force I see it more than you ever could.
- Killwize, on 08/10/2008, -1/+2Ignorant? You sound like the ignorant one. Wake up!

- dunderballer, on 08/09/2008, -43/+1732 lbs? I'm not familiar with marijuana, but I don't even think I have collected 32 pounds of grass after I mow my lawn. It's horrible that the dogs were shot, but if you knowingly or unknowingly bring 32 lbs of drugs in your house under police surveillance, some sh*& is going to go down.
- Crackerpat, on 08/09/2008, -32/+4Agreed! Even though if you read what happened you will see that they were actually a pawn in this game and yes the police found the package unopened. It's ashamed that it cost these dogs their lives but you can't risk it when your in law enforcement.
- alapoet, on 08/09/2008, -2/+34Yeah, Crackerpat, I tell you, those dogs are really dangerous when they're running away from you as fast as they can.
And, of course, mayors and their live-in mothers-in-law are usually heavily armed and dangerous gangstas, too.
/heavy sarcasm - sheetrock, on 08/09/2008, -1/+29Would it have bothered you more if they shot somebody in the house because they were holding a remote control?
Because the way this was conducted, it could just as easily have been a person that got shot. And it wasn't like this was a suspected gang house or something where there might possibly have been a reason to go in no-knock and guns drawn. No, it could have been somebody's grandmother.
http://www.wsbtv.com/news/10374909/detail.html
Unless somebody chokes on it or gets hit on the head with it just right, 32 lbs of marijuana isn't going to kill anybody. Maybe, and I don't want to go too far out on a limb here, but just maybe this type of tactic is something of an overreaction to the problem. And perhaps, and I don't want to seem too much of a liberal here, perhaps it, I don't know, creates a far larger danger to innocent people than the problem it purports to solve.
And innocent dogs as well, apparently.
- alapoet, on 08/09/2008, -2/+34Yeah, Crackerpat, I tell you, those dogs are really dangerous when they're running away from you as fast as they can.
- rewinn, on 08/09/2008, -1/+44RTFA. They were completely innocent and BTW the cops had no warrant. It was an illegal raid. A rational policy would've been to use no unnecessary force.
- jcaino, on 08/09/2008, -0/+29As the Mayor, I'd definitely be pulling strings to get the guys that shot my dog ***** canned. Just for starters. I love my dog.
- jbob2000, on 08/09/2008, -14/+1The thing is, marijuana smells. Very, very, strongly and it is very identifiable. I don't think a cardboard package would be able to mask the scent of 32lbs of it. I don't know that someone would frame him for it either, 32lbs of mary jane will run you anywhere from 20-40 grand.
- sonycam, on 08/09/2008, -0/+17Which is why it was most likely sealed in a container to prevent arousing any suspicion throughout the postal process? Noone would send 32lbs of mairjuana in just a cardboard box.
- zeblith, on 08/09/2008, -0/+8Weed + Plastic Wrap + Layers of Motor Oil + More Plastic Wrap + Spray Foam.
- AussieFox, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4Not to mention that some people (like me) have never come into contact with marijuana.
Just because it smells strongly, doesn't mean people know what the smell is.
- AuTigerfan, on 08/09/2008, -0/+120-40 grand? Thats some cheap pot.
- NotedFuturist, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3***** You. No one should go through this, for any crime less than child rape.
Again, ***** you.

Sadly, that is what it takes these days to get anything done. I don't even care if the delivery was legitimate or not - they didn't have a search warrant, shot first and asked questions later - what is this Nazi Germany?
- NinjaJoshy, on 08/09/2008, -6/+1If you're the dog of a local mayor, yes.

- Hyter, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4They actually did have a search warrant.
"My mother-in-law screamed... and they said it ruined the warrant."
Meaning that they couldn't announce the warrant because they were being "hostile."
- Lynx55, on 08/09/2008, -2/+75Small town or small county sheriff's and detectives are always looking for a way to advance themselves. What better than busting the mayor?? I was a state trooper, and I knew MANY of those small county sheriff depts. Talk about 'good old boys club" , and imagine me, one of the first four female state troopers in the state. I experienced it more than all the men. I would be my bottom dollar, this is the same type of sheriff dept.
But sadly, all I can think of is the dogs...and how the family has to go on without them. It is legal in our state anyway, for dogs to attack anyone who enters a private home without consent. Hell my little pooch would. Shoot him and I'd be looking for my gun. Assholes.- sx66gns, on 08/09/2008, -0/+28I like you.

- Hyter, on 08/10/2008, -2/+3Most reliable source EVER!
*Rolls eyes* - Vigilo, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3It is a fact that PETA is responsible for more animals being put to sleep than any other organization.
- caferrell, on 08/09/2008, -3/+88Pigs, thats what we called them 35 years ago.
- lucy22, on 08/09/2008, -4/+26Killing someones dogs over botched raid. Just sick. What about tasers. Couldn't they have stunned the dog or tranquilizer darts. I hate to see any animal killed so needlessly.
- kemp34, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3Tasers do not produce calm.
- say592, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1They obviously didnt have tasers drawn.
However, that is certainly no excuse to shoot someones dogs without reason.
- VKMO, on 08/09/2008, -2/+109I don't care what the cops or their apologists say -- there is NO excuse for shooting dogs that aren't attacking you and, in fact, are running away from you.
Putting on a badge and calling it a "drug raid" doesn't change the fact that they are slaughtering family pets for no good reason.- AchaIemoipas, on 08/09/2008, -0/+16It seems like it's some sort of unspoken policy for raids these days too.
I've read a lot of articles about raids, and about half the time they mention that they shot dogs. - drmangrum, on 08/09/2008, -9/+3There are reason, you just don't understand them. Just because the dog isn't attacking immediately, doesn't mean a dealer wont give the command to attack to buy himself a few seconds to exit.
- cersad, on 08/10/2008, -2/+1I agree, but at the same time I can actually see where the police are coming from. Dogs, especially attack dogs, simply move faster than humans. An officer who fails to slaughter any dogs in the area is one who could be trying to fend off an attack hound a precious few seconds later.
How about instead of worrying about the dogs we worry about the fact that these officers are seriously f*cking these raids up and not doing their homework before waving guns around like madmen?- shodanx, on 08/10/2008, -0/+0"it's their job, they're peace officers
you know, the drill, you gotta do what you gotta do" - VBDon, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2They're hardly peace officers if they go around shooting everything that moves. They're psycho's that need to be locked up.

- AchaIemoipas, on 08/09/2008, -0/+16It seems like it's some sort of unspoken policy for raids these days too.
- celebfan0712, on 08/09/2008, -3/+29This is hideous. Activists are gonig to have a field day with this story.
- Derrekito, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2It's actually old news, and NORML has been on it already. Not sure about PETA, however.
- gnixon70, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2for once, I would have to agree with them. This makes no sense what happened...
- IdigObama, on 08/09/2008, -1/+26Both dogs ran and the police ran after them and shot them!
The police don't have a big enough excuse for anything they did this day!- bs0l, on 08/09/2008, -1/+8The dogs were going to get weapons. Duhh, geez man. You think the dogs would just run away because they were scared of the police?
- johndavidjack, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2I laughed...
- ligyron, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1I love how out of touch reporters are. The guy just said that one of his dogs ran away, then not even a minute later the reporter asks if the dogs attacked the officers. I guess he just has a list of questions that he's blindly asking
- sulthernao, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1The first dog moved toward the police to greet them, the second ran away after the first was killed.
- bs0l, on 08/09/2008, -1/+8The dogs were going to get weapons. Duhh, geez man. You think the dogs would just run away because they were scared of the police?
- RoflCoptah, on 08/09/2008, -0/+30atleast he's the mayor and has SOME power to prosecute the police. If this was just a regular citizen, i doubt they would be able to do anything about it
- ReidFleming, on 08/09/2008, -0/+9Um, while true, that point was made in the video.
- urgeigh, on 08/09/2008, -6/+19I'd like to hear more about the 32 lbs. of pot. Why OH WHY would someone send 32 POUNDS (That is a royal *****-ton of weed for those of you who don't know) to someone knowing they are going to lose it, even if they were just trying to ***** with the Mayor or something, 1-5 lbs. would probably do the trick, but 32? That might have been a failed set-up by some city cops. Something smells in this story, aside from the ***** pigs of course.
- sheetrock, on 08/09/2008, -0/+26http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/politics/ba ...
With some irrelevant exceptions, packages that are sent to you through the mail or other delivery services get left outside your door. Apparently a couple of people decided it'd be smart to move over 400 lbs this way, across several packages that were sent to different (unsuspecting) locations. If the deliveries happen earlier in the day than the residents get home, then the traffickers can drive by each location and pick up the package without anybody being the wiser.
The problem with this scheme is that packages are routinely checked for drugs and the police notified when they are found. It doesn't seem to stop people from trying to send them this way from time to time. - TheCollective00, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5They already captured the people responsible for sending the drugs. Seems they sent packages to 6 random houses, and the mayor's house happened to be one of those. The mayor had nothing to do with it.
- chamberlanderic, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Obviously ther is 32 pounds missing from the county evidence room...

- Foenetik, on 08/09/2008, -2/+74this same thing happened to a friend of mine a few years back. no knock warrant, trigger happy pigs, nonviolent dog who had just given birth earlier that month and was totally non-confrontational and actually ran away from the cops - check. worst part was that one of the cops was overheard at a bar later that week and was actually bragging about shooting my friends dog. scumbags

- vermax, on 08/09/2008, -2/+66it was NOT a no-knock warrant.
if it had been anyone but a politician, this wouldn't even be in the news.
and it sure does seem like a lot of people care more about these dogs than people who get shot and killed for no reason in these ***** little operations, every single day.
yet another fine example of what a worthless piece of ***** this drug war is.- sulthernao, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Their justification was that his wife screamed thinking they were burglars.
- Pusod, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4if the police put a similar package on your doorstep, wouldn't you take the package inside your home? This could happen to anyone and the police can raid your home just for taking in a package that was just sitting on your doorstep. explain to me why this is legal?
- MasterThief117, on 08/09/2008, -1/+11PG County sucks *****. It's a breeding place for crime. - electrikyle, on 08/09/2008, -1/+17I am so sick of all the people with badges who do not do their jobs right.. I have been harassed by too many cops for no reason, been threatened to be taken to jail when i was doing absolutely nothing other than standing somewhere.. WE HAVE RIGHTS!! Cops should not incite fear in anyone except for people who are endangering others, but so many of them abuse their badge because of their bitter position.
- rmmcclay, on 08/09/2008, -0/+29One of the important things the mayor said during the interview was that this was happening to other people who didn't have the credentials he did as a mayor and therefore would not be able to get their story out or their names cleared.

- shodanx, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1KDX200rider, get bent !
those guys weren't putting their lives on the line to save others
THEY KILLED OTHERS TO AVOID EVEN TAKING THE RISK OF PUTTING THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE ! - tehsilentcircus, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Maybe so, but I am waiting for you to defend why they decided to raid someone's home; more than likely because they were told to do so by someone higher up and did not question it, because they are told not to do so. Let alone kill two innocent house pets for no ***** reason.
Stop defending this *****. Chayes' comment may be a bit exaggerated, but this is exactly how this ***** starts. These ***** will be goose stepping on command in a few short years if we don't do something about our insanely sadistic and corrupt system.

- Badandy127, on 08/10/2008, -4/+1You should die for that comment. They killed over 6 MILLION people, and you try to minimize that ***** with saying they didn't shoot dogs?!
- sajorojas, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Even the Nazis didn't shoot peoples dogs. To put things into perspective for your wee frontal lobe, this is the USA 2008.
Even the Nazis didn't shoot peoples dogs. - Badandy127, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1You're an idiot. I've decided.
- sajorojas, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Even the Nazis didn't shoot peoples dogs. To put things into perspective for your wee frontal lobe, this is the USA 2008.
- PeterPlunket, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Actually, the Nazis seized dogs belonging to private citizens (especially large, intelligent dogs like Rottweilers) and re-trained them for their own purposes. Much as I love my dogs, I'd rather see them shot than to lose them like that.
- laserdog, on 08/09/2008, -0/+22This is the same way Ruby Ridge started.
ATF members sneak up to a house, throw a rock at it to see if their dogs would notice.
The dogs did notice, as well as their young master.
ATF then shoots the dog, young kid with gun reacts predictably to his dogs being shot infront of him, and is then shot in the back running back towards the house.- BabaRamDass, on 08/09/2008, -0/+7The Ruby Ridge story is so ***** up. Wasn't it the mother who was shot in the head by the ATF while she was holding her newborn infant? So ***** up...
- AeroMerde, on 08/10/2008, -3/+0No.
- jwoulf, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Yes, the mother was shot, and the same bullet also killed the baby.
- Aroundtheworls, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2I hadn't read about Ruby Ridge before. Just shocking how the government targeted this guy on trumped up charges and didn't relent until his son and wife were dead: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Ridge
- rv36116, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1You need to look up this information and listen to interviews with Randy Weaver and Alex Jones. That man has been through hell and high water.
- BabaRamDass, on 08/09/2008, -0/+7The Ruby Ridge story is so ***** up. Wasn't it the mother who was shot in the head by the ATF while she was holding her newborn infant? So ***** up...
- sweetwater88, on 08/09/2008, -1/+38Here in NC the police illegally raided our house about 3-5 years ago and pointed their guns at my mother and sister for--get this: MY FAMILY'S LASTS NAME MATCHES A KNOWN DRUG DEALER. That is why they pointed guns at my family; because of our last name. I'm pretty sure our last name isn't unique and they also took around $210 in grocery money. I think my dad got some people reprimanded and fired for this incident.
- bs0l, on 08/09/2008, -0/+12Even in a lot of movies the municipal police don't like the SWAT teams. They just go through and destroy everything. Ruin potential evidence.
And if they're bad in movies, well that says something. - sonycam, on 08/09/2008, -10/+3I have no problem with them busting down his door as he did bring 32lbs of drugs into his house and even if they knew he was the mayor, that's no reason not to investigate further. I have a real problem with shooting dogs, infact, firing live ammunition at anyone or anything which isn't putting you at risk is downright unprofessional.
- razorsedge555, on 08/09/2008, -1/+2Where was the warrant? You agree with warrantless searches then?
- BabaRamDass, on 08/09/2008, -2/+1I'm one of the biggest champions of the 4th amendment, but there's something called reasonable suspicion which tosses out the requirement of a warrant. I'm going to assume the SWAT team had been informed there was pot in the package; if that was the case then they had reasonable suspicion.
- dagnome1984, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Even if it was his pot. The police have no right to infringe on the Mayor's right of self ownership.
- MechaFalcon, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2He brought a -package- into his house, completely oblivious to the fact that it was pot.
- razorsedge555, on 08/09/2008, -1/+2Where was the warrant? You agree with warrantless searches then?
- larryjr88, on 08/09/2008, -0/+50Every pot raid is 'botched.'
Stop wasting time and go catch some criminals.- heliox, on 08/09/2008, -15/+1Namely those pesky liberals.
- normlsparky, on 08/10/2008, -0/+6violent offenders would be a good place to start. most marijuana users do NOT fall into this category. oops, that wouldn't fit in with your political agenda.
- Aroundtheworls, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2The amount of time, resources and taxpayer money wasted going after pot smokers and dealers is utterly ridiculous.
If pot were legalized and taxed then crime would drop, tax revenues would go up and resources would be freed to go after real crimes.
When will someone in government stand up and take the right and pragmatic view on this issue?
- heliox, on 08/09/2008, -15/+1Namely those pesky liberals.
- yosserhughes, on 08/09/2008, -1/+36Is it just me, or have you noticed that since 9/11 all people in supposed positions of authority have a completely different attitude towards the public now?
From the cop on the beat to the security guard at the local shopping mall, to the airline screener; they've all developed this don't-*****-with-me-I'm-saving-you-from-terrorists look in their eyes. Any dissent or hesitation on your part to not do exactly and immediately as you're told will lead to you being arrested, tasered, strip searched, pepper-sprayed, thrown in jail, or even killed.
If you protest your treatment, you're an enemy of the state and you'll get; "we're only doing this for your own good sir, national security dontchaknow, can't take any chances after 9/11 now can we'.
WTF happened to America?- specialbuddy1, on 08/09/2008, -0/+10It's a post 9/11 world. Marijuana leads to terrorism and those dogs were obviously part of Al Qaeda. Sean Hannity told me so.
- captkeebz, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0I love that we had government sponsored ads telling us how buying pot sponsored terrorism, meanwhile the billions that we funnel to Saudi Arabia (where most of the 9/11 terrorists were from) for oil is just fine and dandy. Sean Hannity would be on my short-list for Antichrist, if I believed in such things.
- BabaRamDass, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Hate to break it to you, but 4th amendment abuses have been going on LOOOONG before 9/11. It's just now the public is much more apt to recognize it when it occurs.
- vermax, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6it's not so much 911 as this whole Bu**sh** administration, it's just a lot more likely that people will be heavy handed powertrippers, more callous, more blatant...espcially ***** PG County cops, what a bunch of layabout hillbillies. sorry about the dogs, glad all that dead weight is getting national embarrassment,
- esfisher, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Please, if nothing else, do not think that these types of raids and violations are the exclusive result of the Bush administration. I'm just as sick of Bush as the next person, but this goes way beyond one president.
This is a poison that has infected everyone in government, and will outlast Bush.
- esfisher, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Please, if nothing else, do not think that these types of raids and violations are the exclusive result of the Bush administration. I'm just as sick of Bush as the next person, but this goes way beyond one president.
- FrankHope, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4It's not just you. I've come to the same conclusion. The cops have more of an attitude since 9/11. I also blame it on the cop shows on TV. Compare today's cop with Mayberry R.F.D. Big difference. Back then the role of the cop was to help the community, now it is to control the community. They have been transformed into Storm Troopers.
- specialbuddy1, on 08/09/2008, -0/+10It's a post 9/11 world. Marijuana leads to terrorism and those dogs were obviously part of Al Qaeda. Sean Hannity told me so.
- ErickStevenson, on 08/09/2008, -0/+17Wow the fact that they didn't have a warrant for a no-knock entry and they still did it... nicely done, and they shot the dogs.
Police state rocks! This country is getting better and better... we won the war on terrorists ya'll....- heliox, on 08/09/2008, -6/+1Since they were seen and acknowledged by the occupants, that is just as good.
Now what they did was ***** up, but I think thier entry was legal.- cersad, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1I didn't get that impression from the video. The warrant was supposedly called "null" because his mother-in-law screamed, I think it said? I'm not too familiar with the nuances of warrants versus warrantless entry, though.
- FrankHope, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4The way it works is the cops right up their report to justify whatever they did after the fact. They know the legal angles and what they have to say to make it sound good for the prosecutors and the judges. Even if they have to change the facts to make a good story, no problem. The jury will always believe the cops before a private citizen.
Does it really make sense that the grandmother screams, so then they had to bust down the door? Come on people. I wouldn't want to have someone like heliox on a jury that was trying me.
- heliox, on 08/09/2008, -6/+1Since they were seen and acknowledged by the occupants, that is just as good.

- halogenik, on 08/09/2008, -1/+10It's sad that two dogs had to die before anything was done about it. I guess as a politician, you hear stories about this, but you just shrug them off as the police having "plausible cause" to do what they did and move on. It's one of those things you have to experience first-hand before you're traumatized enough to do anything about it.
Hopefully the dogs didn't die in vain.- sajorojas, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Of course they did. thats the ***** point.
