- beartamer, on 08/08/2008, -3/+15 A Georgian shell hit the headquarters of Russian peacemakers. Several Russian servicemen were killed. Russia will retaliate no doubt
- ihavebeenseen, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7This is already getting out of hand
"At 14:38 UTC, a South Ossetian official told Interfax that there were perhaps "a thousand people" killed in Tskhinvali.[46]" - jorichter, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6Georgia's President Saakashvili said earlier on CNN that Russian warplanes dropped bombs on a public market packed with civilians. But I haven't heard anything else about that since.
It is strange that all this happened at the same time of the Olympics opening ceremony, while most he media and world leaders are preoccupied.
The whole situation is pretty messed up. This really should be on the front page. - duggedup, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6There is a juicy oil pipeline that crosses Georgia from the Caspian Sea. If the Russians move further south the USA will move in to protect it. Welcome to the OIL WARS.
- vault, on 08/09/2008, -1/+6Every skirmish, someone claims it's a prelude to WWIII.
- JoWiGo, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5Copy paste much?
- benoitcsirois, on 08/08/2008, -2/+4Very scary..
- jorichter, on 08/08/2008, -1/+3Not to be offensive. But I watched Russian TV coverage of this and they made some really strange claims. For example they looped the same clips of tanks rolling in, and said that they Russian military had "killed thousands of Georgians so far." Not only that, but they also said that "Georgians forces we're running scared from the military supremacy of Russia."
These claims are contrary to every other media outlet and report I have heard so far. What I'm saying is Russia is well known for propaganda, and you should be careful not to believe one story. Especially since Russia has refused to comment to western media.
So far this has been condemned by NATO, the UN and countless world leaders (even leaders to be Obama McCain have weighed in). So while Russia has one view (and you yourself are Russian) I think you should listen to all sides of the conflict.
Again, that's not meant to be any offense to your country or political views. Just an observation. - beartamer, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Stop, then who was the target in the first place? Local civilians maybe? Because there were only civilian and peacekeeper losess in the night attack of Tskhinvali.
- ZurMacht, on 08/09/2008, -1/+3Jesus Christ... this needs to be front page news.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+3Cynical bastards, to pull this ***** on the day the Olympics start...perfect time to avoid exposure on a Friday, that's for sure.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2The bear is hibernating, don't wake the bear.....
- platinum07, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1There are 80% Russians in South Ossetia
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+2Russia is going to kick their ass, Georgia is no match for them !!!
- Mihey, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Replace "Russians" with Americans and "Georgians" with Serbs. Get an idea now?
- IEatBrains, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Collateral damage maybe? Note the "Such damage is not unlawful..." part...
Definition of colalteral damage"United States Department of Defense definition collateral damage — Unintentional or incidental injury or damage to persons or objects that would not be lawful military targets in the circumstances ruling at the time. Such damage is not unlawful so long as it is not excessive in light of the overall military advantage anticipated from the attack. (Joint Publication 3-60)" - dawnraid101, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1United States definitions < Rest of World
- atdigg, on 08/09/2008, -1/+2Georgian troops are in Georgia, Russian troops are in Georgia, do the math who is the aggressor.
- MikhaelB, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1Official position of Russian president Medvedev about this story:
http://digg.com/politics/Dmitry_Medvedev_made_a_st ... - synystar, on 08/09/2008, -1/+1Everyone wants to argue about who is right or wrong in this mini-war. I think it might have been valid long ago, but control of perceived territory is really not a good enough reason to fight to the death in 2008. I understand that Georgia and Russia disagree on important issues, but it's tragic that people are dying for no good reason.
.Across the board....I would never claim that Americans are any better. We all know you can get the job done faster with violence. Still, Georgia and Russia are acting like children.. but they're playing a deadly game. - synystar, on 08/09/2008, -2/+1Is Digg your only source of news? It's at the top of nearly every source. First on a few.
- lazycat, on 08/08/2008, -5/+4He is just a pawn in the hands of Bush administration.
- otokarev, on 08/08/2008, -1/+0Really, Russian troopers entered South Ossetia after its capital - Tskhinvali was ruined completely.

- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -4/+2C'mon, lets get the party started! The news is getting boring these days....
- Kostov, on 08/08/2008, -7/+1Total lie.
- N0_SkillZ, on 08/08/2008, -14/+2This is a prelude to a much larger global war. Russia has initiated what the Nazi's did during the invasion of Poland in WW2. Get ready.
