Why not?
Why are we still involved with Eurpoe's defense? - GrandmaSheila, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2Georgia launched a massacre of the South Ossetians after proclaiming a CEASE FIRE, which is evidently part of the requirements of NATO membership. Russia moved to oust the Georgians after going to the UN, and getting nowhere.
The Georgia/US backed and armed invasion killed 2000 plus civilians, created 30,000 refugees.
And Russia is the aggressor here? - jzimo, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3Russia was completely innocent in all of this and had no intention of ever attacking Georgia. Russia actually did not have faintest idea Georgia would even want to attack South Ossetia. Nope, Russia didn't even know South Ossetia was a tinderbox waiting to go up in flames...
That's why when Georgia attacked South Ossetia, Russia's response was quick and precise.Though obviously not apart of a military strategy which had been planned since the break up of the Soviet Union. Russia was just fortunate to have numerous tanks and soldiers available for an immediate response to a attack from a fledgling country, when compared to Russia.
Or, perhaps Russia did everything in her power in instigate an attack on South Osseita, by the Georgians, so Russia could take the morale high ground, paralyzing help for Georgia, and absolve a former soviet state. But I really don't think this could even be considered a possibility... No, this war was obviously caused by the U.S. in an effort to bring about more death and destruction on the world. It is a well known fact, when there is any injustice in the world or a seemingly unprovoked attack that kills innocent civilians the U.S., in the end, was the cause. Besides, Russia doesn't have a history of killing millions of innocent civilians like the U.S. does...
