- psygnisfive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Oddly, some people still can't quite get Lolcat grammar's lack of auxiliary verb fronting.
Refresher Course (best read in the voice of the narrator for "Look Around You"):
In English, to ask permission for something, you take the statement form of the sentence, S Aux V O, and move it to the front: Aux S V O. For example, "I can have a cheeseburger" is a statement, so the question form is "Can I have a cheeseburger."
On the contrary, like many Asian languages, Lolcat grammar does not have auxiliary verb fronting. The statement for S Aux V O remains unchanged when shifting to a question for, which is merely indicated by the present of a question mark "?".
Further, as supaklaw correctly demonstrated, verbs tend to be in the second person singular, as in "has" which works with "he has" or "she has" or even "it has", but never "have" as in "i have". "I has" is perfectly grammatical in Lolcat.- snypa, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Wow.

- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Ahh. The classic feints of a new cold war. And just so everyone knows, the cold war was a fallacy in itself. If you'd research respected researcher Antony Sutton and Zbignew Brezezinski, you'll discover that the U.S funded both Germany, and Russia and developed their infrastructures in the run ups to both WW1 and 2. Not only that, but throughtout the cold war, the U.S is known to have supported the U.S.S.R's weapons development, get this.. AT THE SAME TIME WE WERE FIGHTING VIETNAM!
But it gets deeper.
Just do a quick search of Antony sutton, his reputation, the high ranking individuals who accept his claims and you'll see that we were lied to, just like we're being lied to today.

- nakani, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Haha! It's funny 'cuz it's anti-intellectual
- 2reflective, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Quite right. War is nothing but an excuse for the private bankers to lend more money to the government and reap the interest payments for years to come. Just think how much interest will be paid to the Fed (a private bank) on all the money borrowed to fund Afghanistan and Iraq. War is not patriotic, it is just a money making bonanza for the international bankers and the entire Military Industrial Complex which requires ongoing conflict to survive.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not only that. But the nuclear scare, all from a nation which WE gave the "bomb" to in the first place. I just love how history eventually shows itself to be more unbelievable than the greatest fiction. But it wasn't espionage, it wasn't simply communists infiltrating our nation. We went in, gave them the weapons technology, and all the research and development data that they needed. And when they couldn't finish it with that, we sent in our experts and constuction workers to speed up the process. After that... I have no clue. But this much is clear .Our government has some explaining to do...

- doctorfungi, on 10/10/2007, -7/+38What the hell is everyone getting all worried for?
China and Russia have been conducting joint exercises for years. The exercises being run this time are focusing on counter-insurgency attacks based around the threat of terrorism. These aren't "How to Invade the United States" style exercises, and I see no reason to be worried.- Albionshores, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Years yes, decades no. Even though they were both once communist countries their relations have always been frosty and have only recently begun to thaw. This isn't the first exercise they've conducted together and invasion of the US was never, would never, be on the cards. The reason why people are getting so concerned is because they understand the implications.
China's demand for resource is set to mushroom. Iran is set to provide said resource. Iran, Pakistan and India are, for the first time in their war-torn history, brokering deals together to build a gas pipeline. The US Administration has been on a mission to secure the world's resources; heard of Africom, the Iraq occupation, the Wolfowitz Doctrine? The Corporate Administration doesn't like Iran but loves Iranian oil. In fact it needs the Caspian Sea reserves - hence the Afghanistan Oil Pipeline.
When the military wing of the BRICs begin to exercise together you should be worried because the current US lifestyle cannot be sustained without kneeling to Corporate rule and them achieving their goals in the Gulf. Those goals cannot be achieved with the BRICs in play and it looks like they are on the sidelines warming up.
Nobody with a grain of morality wants Capitol hijacking Corporate Fascism to be successful but better be it for them to fail due to domestic resistance than if they fail at the hands of foreign intervention, which would mean a lot of lives lost.- foreverseethe, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0China is not communist? news to me.
truthfully, i never bought the rhetoric about communism.
As has been demonstrated, democracy doesn't solve every problem in the world.- annenk38, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4China is no more communist than the US is a democracy.
- Albionshores, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Neither China or Russia never achieved Marxist communism, they got as far as the predicted forced social reform which developed an authoritarian central government which never relinquished its hold. It was known as communism but both failed under economic pressures. Russia eventually relented and privatised its markets (which it is now reversing). China from the beginning lagged behind Russia and they barely talked. China made several bold efforts to economic reform to close the gap. The 'Great Leap Forward' was such a reform. It led to the greatest famine in man's history. China admits 15 million starved to death, conservative western estimates put it between 20-40 million.
Chairman Mao stayed in power but the country dropped off the face. In the late 70s reform begun but half the population lived in poverty. Needs must from then on in justified policy, but the Party retained the Authoritarian rule. Today 70% of China's GDP comes from the private sector.
When you think of America from a different perspective: How much of the US GDP is seized in taxes and then given to the private sector in subsidy, contracts and debt repayment? If you think about it what is the difference between China's 30% state run monopolies and the US' closed bid, heavy subsidy which prices competitors out of the market. How much is issued through government and corporation so by the time it has filtered down an depreciation has occurred, interest tax. The line between America and China starts to become fuzzy. The Chinese government directly controls 30% of the market, how much of the private market does the US government control; defense contractors, pharmaceuticals, insurance, med aid, industry and agriculture subsidy? It all adds up to the same thing. A government controlling a significant slice of the free market pie.
They are both authoritarian regimes married to corporation. Neither are what they are supposed to be. US is not a free market, China is not communist.

Maybe these are 'How to prevent an invasion from the United States military' style exercises, and yes, we should be worried.- kooft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3SCO is really a counter-weight to NATO. Granted, it's not nearly as thorough, but it's a good start. If Iran gains full membership they might be the beneficiaries of a mutual defense pact with China & Russia (under certain terms of course). Once they're under the Sino-Russo umbrella, America's options are few. Considering that NATO/US are in full control of Iraq and Afghanistan, I'm thinking Russia & China will want to strengthen ties with Iran & Syria, lest they lose all control of the Middle East.

- salinemist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, they'd rather invade Taiwan and the Middle East.
- BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Now that Russia has made a claim regarding the Arctic oil deposits, countries like China that are oil importers are going to step in and show support. China can't have its own mining and refining operation at the North Pole. Russia can. The shortest path to the precious resource is through Russia, and the cheapest, as they have a developed railroad network and refineries along the way from Russian peak oil days. No one is going to be attacking the US, unless US attacks first. The exercise is a way of saying: "We're going to go after the oil, so don't even think about stopping us."
If Canada was to defend its claim, it would be able transport oil for domestic consumption, and would likely share it with the US, so I won't be surprised if in retaliation US arranged a series of joint military exercises with Canada, for counter-balance. It's all growl games at this point - nothing more.- Dewhead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just a guess----a takeover of Tiawan? Getting warmed up for a democrat for president.

- dallascorbin504, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3HMMM. I wonder if they will let Iran into the SCO considering that Ahmadinejad is at the conference? If that happens, we are going to have some tough alliances to overcome. G.B. is about the only ally that makes a difference. The french pussies run away as soon as a fight is about to go down and the rest of the E.U. looks upon the U.S. to save them in case of an attack.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The UK won't come with you to Iran.
for the UK to go to war it needs to be voted in by the Houses of Parliament. Most of the MPs that voted for the war with Iraq did so because they believed Tony Blair and his WMD speech. The followed the logic that the PM wouldn't dare lie about something that important, well he did and we got forced in.
If we were going to go to war with Iran Gordon Brown (new PM) would need to go to Parliament to get the OK, it would never happen. Even before he went to get a vote on it, the country would errupt. Many of the big protest groups (both peaceful and violent) have formed an alliance. If it looks like we are gearing up for war, there are plans to cause chaos across the whole country.- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Not only that but Brown's labour is ten points ahead in the polls. There's no way, he'll risk that lead

- Dewhead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am an American and I think Canada rocks. Their military has been awesome through the Iraq War and I greatly appreciate their committment to a democratic Iraq. Its good for the entire world if Iraq becomes a stable democracy.
- fhernand, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9It is said France and the UK tried the same, but it was over when France unexpectedly surrendered
- nakani, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Lately I've wondered if making fun of France for losing wars has become an anachronism in light of America's recent military history.
- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4Funny fact. Canada kicks the ***** out of the US forces in friendly wargames year after year. We are a much smaller military but we don't jrecruit retarded unemployed rednecks with pregnant 16 year old girlfriends to fill our ranks like the US does.
- Dewhead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I realize that you might have said that in relataliation to a stupid comment from some one on Digg but that was very unkind. Every single soldier that fights for the cause of freedom is a hero regardless of which country they come from.

- dhakbar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Any serious provocation to the United States which were to result in our armed forces taking off the kid gloves will result in the end of global stability and billions of lives.
It's not something anyone really wants. Nobody that understands what it would create, at least. - derspiess, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Russia still has a big hole to crawl out of. Not long ago I was reading that they couldn't afford to buy their own domestically produced jet fighters, not to mention jet fuel to fly the ones they have (resulting in pilots not getting enough flight time). The kicker: Air Force majors & colonels moonlighting as cab drivers.
China is even further behind in military technology, and neither has any serious force projection capability. I'm not losing any sleep tonight. - dan.stryker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0*****! Were you ever in the military? We could kick their asses no problem. Yeah, it would be difficult right now with half of our army in f-ing iraq, but we are the only nation powerful enough to move sizable amount of firepower around the world. China can't, and yes Russia can't either. I laugh when they say they flew 14 bombers to the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, we could blow them out of the sky easily. These military exercises consisted of 6,000 troops! That's all! Who cares, nothing to worry about here...

Do you wish to risk a global war over your racist , imperialistic way of life? Do you wish to see an invasion of your homeland in order to stop, by offensive means, your fall into fascism? You still have the ability to revolutionize your current direction and trounce your current Nazi regime and replace it with one more subjugated to the will of the World Body. Instead of crying to the Moon for water, start now and change yourselves, save yourselves from the coming offensive by the above Alliances that could wipe out much of the hope of what America was meant to be. - therealgt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0except this time its brown people.. I'm only half serious btw.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1well you have killed over 500,000 innocents in Iraq and many in Afganistan. I don't know how many Jews the Nazi's killed, but your on your way to catching them. - douggmc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4replace with a "regime ... more subjugated to the will of the World Body".
WTF? The only thing the "regime" (i.e., government) of this country will EVER be subjugated to is the will of the AMERICAN PEOPLE. Not China, not Russia, not Iran, not some global citizenry. This great experiment called a a democratic republic we have is still the best the world has ever known and has had.
So ... go ahead ... the rest of the world you refer to (like Iran, China, Pakistan) ... go ahead and just try an "invasion of our homeland". You'll get annihilated.
Peace- Sketchcast, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Correction, you were once the best democratic republic the world has ever seen. Now your government runs roughshod over your hard fought rights, and you do nothing to stop them. The once-proud American people, the rebels who overthrew a foreign authoritarian power now sit on their fat asses watching Fox and eating McDonalds as home grown authoritarianism takes away everything their ancestors fought for.
For shame, your pride has blinded you to the fact that the rest of the democratic world lives better and freer than you. For shame America, get up off your couches and demand change.- therealgt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It does seem that way sometimes, doesn't it? But actually, when I read sites like Digg and Reddit and other forums, there do seem to be a number of americans who do 'get it'.. now whether or not there is enough of them to make a difference, I don't know. I hope there is though. the USA has many, many great things about it that others in other nations ARE jealous of, if even only slightly so. I think the USA can come back to its former glory though, and ever surpass it, if they play their cards right.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Are you sure its the best? What do you base that on? Its always interesting to hear Americans say that because very few of them can even give examples of how other countries do it. Could it be that you think you have the best because you have been told you have the best?
- therealgt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1naww, america wouldn't lie to us?!?!

- phoggey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Jeez, how did an article about China and Russia turn into anti-US stuff. I go to work and come home, just a normal guy like you. Yet, every article I read that has a political story or viewpoint immediately turns into anti-American rhetoric. I like the USA, it's my home, regardless of what's being done in other places. If you wish to share you viewpoints, go for it, but why not try articles that specifically outline their bias ahead of time like "IMPEACH BUSH" or other hate filled articles.
- synik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You may be just a normal guy, but you don't seem to realise the horrors your government is inflicting on the rest of the world.
Nazi Germany had plenty of normal guys living in it too.

- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5So anyone's who doesn't know the geography... Russia and China both want control of the South China Sea, which is abundant in resources. The US and her allies, including Japan and Taiwan, want the same.
Limited resources is the nature of conflict.
And China has already stated they want Taiwan back, and the US has already said no. All this adds up to a really, really big powderkeg.- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2And America has pissed off all her Allies with the whole screw the UN thing. So looks like you have 3 choices.

- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"About 6,500 troops, mainly from Russia and China, will take part. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are also SCO members.
Russia has fought two wars against Muslim separatists in its Chechnya region since 1994, China says it has been combating Muslim Uighur rebels in its most westerly province and Uzbekistan says it has had to combat Islamist militants.
The Russian commander in charge of the exercise, General Vladimir Moltenskoi, said on Thursday it would help SCO member countries fight both international and "internal terrorists".
But the Uighur American Association, a Washington-based group that supports Muslim Uighurs in China, said: "The scale of the exercises suggests that they are aimed at controlling local populations and not just combating terrorism."
The SCO emerged a few years ago out of an original alliance set up after the former Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. "
90% of the article. This is not a big deal, they've been doing this for 15+ years... - benjpw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If the US did a joint exercise with Canada would people care? Boo hoo. "The concluding communique issued at the end of the summit included what was seen as a thinly-veiled warning to the US to stay out of the region." - freedomwv, on 02/17/2008, -0/+0I think that what Russia and China are doing is to show that they also can flex with muscles. The US has some very important friends out there in the South China sea. Japan is still very important to the US. There is a underlining war brewing in the region. The problem has been brewing for years. There have been some military threats make by China to Japan in the past several years. China like to sneak into Japanese waters with subs near natural gas stations. The Japanese are getting really sick of China`s *****. Japanese have been attacked by mobs of Chinese in China several time as well. When the Japanese government complained to China about it, the commies in China said that it is hard to control the Chinese when such strong feels are felt. That is a load of crap. The commies have no problems killing Chinese when they resist the government.
Anyway, there is a lot going on with Russia and China. The region is in for major ***** in the coming years.
