spikedhumor.com — In a candid moment in front of U.S. troops, Donald Rumsfeld strays from the official story of heroic passengers flying fight 93 into the ground by saying it was "shot down."

- umdigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Well there goes dvd revenue of the Flight 93 movie. Or they could add the alternate ending where it gets shot down.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Someone call Tom Cruise! It's time for Maverick to suit up!
- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'll ready Willard and Simkin on cats 3 and 4!
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Everybody knows that Cheney shot that plane down. He just thought it was a big pheasant.
- heffer2k02, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"I think all of us have a sense if we imagine the kind of world we would face,
if the people who bombed the mess hall in mosel, or the people who did the
bombing in spain, or the people who attacked the united states in new york,
shot down the plane over pennsylvania that attacked the pentagon."
Not only does this barely make sense to me (it is out of context and just bad English) - but I fail to see how this quote suggests the plane was shot down by the US govenment ... or have I drunk one beer to many (I've had 2...) To me it says:
"I think we can all imagine what the world would be like if the terrorists shot down the plane that was going to crash into the Pentagon".
Buh?
- echoparkdirt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8From a Humor site?
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12He's a pretty funny guy. But seriously, this makes sense. Planes that crash don't usually leave debris trails 5 miles long in the direction they were coming from.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6Neither would a plane that was shot down.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9If you WTFM you would see that he said terrorist shot down the plane.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9A plane that gets damaged while in the air is likely to shed debris, robbh66.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Now you're changing your argument. You implied the debris originated from its crash point towards the direction of its origination, I countered your flawed logic.
Now here's my argument: Planes usually crash from mechanical malfunction or human error- not people struggling over the controls in a cockpit. Who knows what actually happened during the struggle. - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I did not alter my argument. If a plane is shot down then it is going to take damage while in the air. You misunderstood me.
- twalicek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17The conspiracy theorists are going to be all over this.
- uncle_jesse, on 10/12/2007, -21/+7So is Digg becoming a rumor site now?
- evolseven, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1yes
- Mrkamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Oh good! then they had enough sense to keep it from crashing into the capitol building.
- fahrenheitlf, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I have no issue with the plane being shot down to protect the capitol. The issue is being lied to. When I'm lied to, I lose trust. Trusting your government is important for the people and the government. Blind trust in anything is moronic, but that's just my opinion.
We the people are a check and balance. Don't give that up, our country needs it. Our COUNTRY, not the administration.

- halytech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Shouldn't we hear the entire speech to hear it in context? Seemed kind of like an abrupt end there...
- Paktu, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9Sometimes I wonder if the government was involved with 9/11. But then I realize the Bush Administration is far too inept to pull it off.
- forgottenred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Do you really believe that the Bush Administration calls the shots?
- Warlon, on 10/12/2007, -13/+13uhm, he meant took down....marked inaccurate
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4good god, who cares?
it's not like he said we shot it down or something. - Enjoikr3w, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Just in case you didnt know, he actually slipped and wasnt suppose to say that.
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Cue various conspiracy theories.
- fido99, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13wow what timing I just got finished watching the documentary Loose Change. It seems there's alot more to the 911 story then we know. I mean if you think about all we know is what the media tells us. As it turns out it could be the us government itself behind the attacks. I think everyone should watch Loose Change whether or not everything is true is debatable but one thing is for certain everything isn't the way they say it is.
Watch Loose Change Here:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5946593973848835726&sourceid=igoogle- valkyries, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8lets here some of these facts? remember once a "documentary" has one false statment it is no longer a documentary
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Almost all the arguments made in Loose Change have been refuted... I do admit It's a very nicely put together movie though.
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I'm tired of the theories. I'm tired of the movies. This crap will go on for the next 100 years. If someone really knows something they aren't talking and will most likely take the secrete to their graves.
It's a 5 year old story. Let it go. Let the people that were involved rest in piece already. - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Americans always need a good storyline.
how silly. - decompyler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2First of all it is our duty to question what we are being spoon-fed. Specially when so many unanswered questions remain. I think we owe it to those that died in the tragedy orchestrated by the powers that be (not Muslims). The evidence is right in front of your face... you simply need only to open your eyes. To all that still believe that your government has the best interest for you, you simply need to wake up and take your freedoms back from these power hungry criminals.

- dmh11686, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14He said "the people.... who shot down the plane over Pennsylvania" he made a mistake all he was saying was that the terrorist had a hand in the plane going down in Pennsylvania. I would like to see the context in which he said that instead of a little blip that does not explain his whole speech.
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Yeah If you listen to it Rumsfield just makes a slip, which he does a lot he's a nutty guy. But you can tell he was refering to the terrorist's "shooting down" the plane, He just chosse the wrong words no need to get in a hissy fit guys.
- xjadams, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1His intent was to certainly insinuate that the terrorists were responsible for the loss of flight 93. However, the mind is a funny thing. If you're in a high pressure situation, and you're lying, sometimes the lies tend to slip out. He said the words 'shot down' there's no doubt about that. Whether he said it because of an innocent slip of the tongue or a Freudian slip of tongue is up to the listener to decide.
IMO, that plane's crash site was a shoot down, not an impact. Pieces of that plane were found for miles around, a whole plane crashing into the ground normally doesn't do that.
- urineboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5So what exactly does it mean, dear conspiracy theorist, that a plane was "shot down" by someone inside it?
- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Here we go... This one slip is all the tinfoil hat crowd needs...
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6He didn't say who shot it down.
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope it was the Air Force, if so I don't see it as a big deal unless there wasn't any hijackers on the plane
even though some people had to died it still would have been the right thing to do
if it wasn't the Air Force, or there wasn't any hijackers onboard then that's another thing
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope it was the Air Force, if so I don't see it as a big deal unless there wasn't any hijackers on the plane
- estaticxalde, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4What it means is that the plane was shot down... Rumsfeld made an oopsie
- gregharmon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9So a missle hit the pentagon and flight 93 was shot down? With ANOTHER MISSLE PERHAPS??
"gets popcorn and sits back to watch the theories" - pcheaven2k, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6"the people that shot down the plane over Pennsylvania and attacked the Pentagon"
That my friends is an exact quote from that speech. Notice "AND ATTACK THE PENTAGON". He is saying that the SAME PEOPLE that SHOT DOWN the PLANE also ATTACKED THE PENTAGON.
Major ***** UP if it isn't true, BIGGER ***** UP if it is true. EITHER WAY IT IS AN ENOURMOUS ***** UP.- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh, the terrorists in the Pennsylvania plane didn't "shoot down" jack. They used knives to try to ram the plane into the White House. Are we to believe that Rummy somehow confused a neocon conspiracy to shoot down the plane with al-Qaeda? I can see how others might have that problem, but the bad guys usually don't confuse themselves with each other.
- GregoryHarbin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This video is very, very old. He's already corrected his remarks. He misspoke. People misspeak.
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4He was also misunderestimated.
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4He was also misunderestimated.
- unitedkronos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1The terrorists probobly sneaked a bomb on it and used it too early, there's a ***** of ideas of what he meant by saying this.
- yikiad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3this is from an interview on 9/11 when it was thought that it may have been. this is really old, and inaccurate.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Cheney has also been on record saying the plane was shot down:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/darkside/
According to this documentary Cheney was under the impression it was shot down but it crashed on its own. We probably won't know the real story for a very long time, if ever. - gregrich, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This is old news.... no digg, he misspoke
- DCMacHead, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4While the passengers on the plane may have fought back, I believe, based on number of square miles that the debris was spread over, that the plane was shot down. HOWEVER, I do not believe this video illustrates what some people want it to, though. Rumsfeld was talking about terrorist attacks and misspoke. I think the plane was shot down, but I don't think Rumsfeld said that.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Wait a minute. What about the cockpit recordings of the terrorists agreeing to bring it down? I call ***** on this story.
- whiskeysquared, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'm all for laughing at people who claim that tap water contains additives to assist the government in "mind control" and other assorted, ridiculous theories; however, I'm damned tired of people dismissing the notion that our crooked "leadership" couldn't be responsible for this. Collectively, yes, they seem to be a group of monkeys; no wait, that's an insult to monkeys, but there is certainly something to the comment someone above posted asking, "Do you really believe that the Bush Administration calls the shots?". I firmly believe in judging only with evidence, so far the Governments evidence has been, well, non-existent in support of their story; all other indications that this administration is actually behind this has a lot more evidence.
- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2You have an odd notion of what constitutes evidence.
- whiskeysquared, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3My notion may be odd to someone who believes the word of THIS administration on blind faith when they provide no evidence to support their claims. Forget the videos over on YouTube if they are too conspiracy theory'esque for you. Do your own research, but don't expect to find anything on the mainstream media, look at the independent media. Or, to help you sleep better at night, keep blindly believing a group of elitists.
- SystemsGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Thank god you are an engineer who knows just what a crash site should look like. Take your time, analyze a few more for us. A good starting point would be here - http://www.airdisaster.com/photos/f-ogqs/photo.shtml
- harpreetgiani, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3CNN report :
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A comment Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made during a Christmas Eve address to U.S. troops in Baghdad has sparked new conspiracy theories about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
In the speech, Rumsfeld made a passing reference to United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to stop al Qaeda hijackers.
But in his remarks, Rumsfeld referred to the "the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania."
A Pentagon spokesman insisted that Rumsfeld simply misspoke, but Internet conspiracy theorists seized on the reference to the plane having been shot down.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/27/rumsfeld.flt93/
BTW: the CNN report is dated December 27, 2004 - geoweb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Do anyone remember the very first reports of a plane over Pennsylvania being followed by a military jet, and the president having to decide whether or not to shoot it down? Of course, I can't remember the source of this all these years later, but I remember this rumor circulating through the office while Bush began his evac procedures. I feel so sorry for everyone on that plane, but let's face it, if you were the President, what would you have decided knowing the three previous planes killed so many additional people?
- estaticxalde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree with people sayin that if it was our own defense planes shooting it down that it was for the greater good. This would have been marvelous and acceptable if only we had not been lied to about it.
