- clumsyjim, on 05/07/2008, -0/+11So this is Gordon Browns idea of the 'listening & learning' that he promised after labour got stuffed in the local elections? Arrogant git.
- honeymustardn, on 05/07/2008, -0/+7"And Gordon Brown said at prime minister's questions that he believed making cannabis a Class B drug was supported by the public and the police."
What a complete moron.

- Teddsy, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6Guaranteed to clog up the courts, thanks for listening Gordon. Who pays for this?
- quii, on 05/07/2008, -0/+7So it seems we're ignoring science and just going with the personal prejudices of the unelected prime minister.
- dontaskagain, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6So justification was that strains are getting stronger? No stronger than anything available in Holland so in practice Amsterdam should be filled with mentally ill people in a few years time, at least they will have plenty of entertaining windows to lick when they do go bonkers..
If they are concerned young people will be less likely to use canablis because they will get 2 years instead of 5 they must be out of their minds. If they want to stop kids getting it they will have to start regulating it. This change won't stop me using it, infact i feel there is more chance of me ending up in court for littering than smoking weed.
I'm going to in danger my health with Vodka and Marlbros instead, then let the NHS pick up the pieces instead...***** hypocrites, Why don't they ban marriage to, that will save the sanity of far more! - DailyWail, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5It would be nice to have some protests about this, everyone should be lighting up as close to the HoP as possible.
I find it funny that there are more users here than there are in Holland, but many of our users are subjected to lower quality strains, poor weights and having other drugs pushed onto us. - robbell, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5Fantastic (this is a sarcastic comment!) - why not just replace the whole ACMD with tabloid journalists as they seem to hold more sway over this unelected team of nincompoops? Medical evidence shows schizophrenia has gone down in the years since reclassification to grade C, and less young people are trying it. It's now going to be in the same class as Ketamine and GHB - which are NOTHING like as harmless as Cannabis. The only positive thing I can see coming out of this is that less lawbreakers will use the excuse that 'Cannabis made me do it' when their alcoholic or violent nature is more likely responsible.
- UKLooney, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6So they are changing the law so cannabis users now face a 5 year jail sentence. Dealer penalties don't change though. Alcohol and cigarettes are to stay as the state sponsored drugs of choice.
Gordon Brown & co should be sacked immediately, and given a good kicking into the bargain. - cashman57, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6What good does it do to make criminals out of ordinary nonviolent people and lock them up for using a plant that has never been shown to cause any disease or disease syndrome and has in fact been provene beneficial in the treatment of many symptoms of diseases from A.I.D.S to M.S. with a stunning record of safety.
Apparently Brown is just another control freak idiot.
It is too bad the Prime Ministers oath does not begin with "First, do no harm"- AThoughtOrTwo, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1They HAVE to outlaw it in the UK, just like USA because it can grow ANYWHERE, ANYTIME and OMG, people can just find it along the railroad tracks. And IF those kids so much as TOUCH that weed, why they will get deranged and become mass murderers and crack using whores!
- waydee, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1A step backward for the sake of keeping the Daily Mail and lunatic mothers like Deborah Bell happy.
Shame on this government and shame on those who wish to further criminalise everyday people who simply like a relaxing smoke. There was a definite opportunity here for Brown to take the progressive stance and prove that he isn't as out of touch as we all think he is - wishful thinking I guess.
The bottom line is this: A, B or C makes no difference to availability. If your intention is to send out a message, don't make it that you ignore experts advice and leave dangerous drugs like Ketamine and GHB as class C while pushing up the punishments for possession of cannabis - the kids will see right through you and become even more disillusioned. - jambox, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1This is terrible news. I really hate the way they justify this by saying they're trying to 'protect' people. How is throwing an 18 year old into prison for 5 years going to protect them? Of course, nobody (hopefully) will be put in prison since the police have already said they will ignore it.
I was, for some reason, still with Gordon Brown up until this. - Pickpocket, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Have The Beatles taught the British nothing?
