Ron Paul steals McCain's thunder
crazykooknews.blogspot.com — Texas Congressman Ron Paul may not be the next US President. But the firey Republican, who failed to win the party's nomination this year, is still hugely popular with grass-roots supporters. He staged a rally in Minneapolis as an alternative to John McCain's Republican Convention in nearby St Paul, stealing much of the limelight from the party's.

- limeyTart, on 09/05/2008, -2/+9As to be expected though, Big Media STILL pretty much ignored him - I celebrate the fact that he continues to garner a lot of grassroot support - it's also refreshing to have a politician not spout BS. I disagree with some of his standings on foreign policy - but have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for his attempts to bring sense to the GOP.

Finally, normal, sane perspectives shared through MSM. - GreyMalkin, on 09/05/2008, -8/+2I thought this kook disappeared already. Hasn't he embarrassed himself enough? McCain destroyed him in the primaries. Maybe he's trying to rally his supporters to help him dig for all that gold that is necessary to support his crazy gold standard idea. Do you know how much gold is needed to back a trillion dollar economy? What an nut!
- limeyTart, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6Not sure where to begin with this string of belligerent comments and non-facts. I guess we should start with the obvious. Do you think John McCain & Sarah Palin should lead this country?
- GreyMalkin, on 09/05/2008, -5/+1How many delegates did Ron Paul get during the primaries? Did he even break double digits? Fact: McCain destroyed him.
- limeyTart, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5@GreyMalkin - Before we get into a discussion on how Ron Paul was hampered both by GOP leadership and a media blackout - could you be so kind as to answer my simple question.
I'm not asking you what orders you gave to the Alaska National Guard after all.
- tomjeff08, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4It's posts such as this that make republicans look like impertinent fools.

- AmazingA, on 09/05/2008, -1/+2Is Ron Paul doing well a good thing for Obama? I mean is Ron stealing more Republican votes, or is he taking Independents that would be voting for Barack?
- limeyTart, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5@AmazingA - Thats a very good question, I will do some research on that. My opinion would be that (and given the fact that I supported Ron Paul over the other GOP candidates) that I would think a Ron Paul supporter is someone who wants change - by that I mean a shift in policymaking and leadership that has been at the top of the Washington food chain for the past 8 or so years. Given that, and the fact the Ron Paul is not running to be President - I would assume, unless Ron Paul throws his supporters towards McCain that they would rather vote for Obama based purely on the fact that McCain & Palin has no substance and to be honest, counting on voters buying into the - lets get the liberal elites out of government argument - when its clearly the politics that McCain & Palin play that is currently running government.
This is purely my opinion though, and my opinion on the actions of Ron Paul voters is not actual fact - I believe very strongly in facts and will therefore educate myself on it - if the information and analysis is available. - tomjeff08, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5I don't think Ron Paul will be *stealing* anything. What he has done is help people realize the true lack of freedom in this country. He has shown that both parties have complete and utter disdain for the US Constitution.
If anything, those who have been awakened will either vote for Barr or Baldwin. Given that Baldwin probably won't make the ballot in many states, it'll be Barr.
Given the penchant democrats have for socialism, entitlement programs and other forms of government handouts, McCain will feel the bigger hit from RP supporters.
Either way, the rEVOLution has begun and will continue regardless of the attempts made to quash it. Freedom is a very popular subject these days.- limeyTart, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4@tomjeff08 - good comment chap - it seems I need to educate myself on Barr & Baldwin :-)

- infinitydl, on 09/06/2008, -2/+2I Like Ron Paul, he is the only one who mentions big philosophical things like getting back on the gold standard, rather then just fiddling with the fed funds rate. However, in a 44/44 country with leaners and then the extreme right, the socialist left and the extreme libertarians (separate from the more center right libertarian leaners like myself). point of all this, if Obama wins, he will take us so far in the direction of socialism it will take decades to swing back. Forced volunteerism for college loans, the same foreign policy of Big European Labor politicians i.e. military action for humanitarian reasons, (get ready to put troops in darfur) Opposition politicians in jail (Biden and Obama already alluded to this with regards to members of the Bush administration (disagree if you will but they did nothing illegal, just followed a different policy view, and no bush did not Lie about WMD, he thought what everybody else was saying at the time even Joe Biden and Bill Clinton), Government nationalizing critical industries (read taking over airlines and oil companies. McCain's platform is much more freedom inspired. It took decades to move as far as we have from the constitution, it will decades of constant work to move back. Revolutions only destroy, what is left may be worse (Jacobins, Cromwell...etc.. Ours was a rare exception. maybe this is why Ron Paul is still a Republican, the work has to come from within, same way the socialists took over the Dems by incremental moves over the last 50 years
- Conspiracy20, on 09/06/2008, -2/+3If everyone votes Ron Paul instead of the lesser of 2 evils... Think about it. Write in Ron Paul.
- sheeplescareme, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3vote your conscience, not your party.
- Paultards, on 09/06/2008, -2/+2 John McCain 2,343 Votes; Ron Paul, 15.
- nymphetamine, on 09/06/2008, -3/+1Clearly Ron Paul is the winner. Why? Because freedom is popular.
Oh, and water is wet.- Paultards, on 09/06/2008, -3/+0It wasn't popular in the primaries !! You live in one of the most free countries in the world but this isn't 1776 and our leaders cannot be passive and deny what goes on in the real world
