Robert Mugabe’s thugs shout "Let’s kill the baby"
timesonline.co.uk — A baby boy had both legs broken by supporters of President Robert Mugabe to punish his father for being an opposition councillor in Zimbabwe. Blessing Mabhena, aged 11 months, was seized from a bed and flung down with force as his mother, Agnes, hid from the thugs, convinced that they were about to murder her.

- irfanmp, on 06/29/2008, -16/+125Wow. I can't even begin to imagine the type of conditions the people of Zimbabwe are living in if a baby is willing to be murdered just due to some political opposition.
- nohero, on 06/29/2008, -1/+150I doubt the baby was willing to do anything...
- irfanmp, on 06/29/2008, -4/+53Sorry. Poorly constructed sentence. Further proof that you should proof-read what you write before commenting.
- guybrush58, on 06/30/2008, -2/+19Dude that was hilarious.
- brett1337, on 07/01/2008, -10/+2I should proof-read? No you should.
- Nereus90, on 07/01/2008, -1/+13Brett, his point was that everyone should proof-read, you dumbass. If you were going for laughs you failed.
- sjl127, on 06/30/2008, -3/+68And the UN continues to eat popcorn and drink soda. Worthless bastards. Both of them.
- saigumi, on 06/30/2008, -0/+20Take a look at the Ethics and Security councils and it make sense why they aren't doing anything.
- aidave, on 06/30/2008, -1/+32Well the UN are working to keep marijuana illegal worldwide, and the Drug War going full steam. Isn't that more important?
- chedabob, on 06/30/2008, -3/+23If Zimbabwe had oil, they'd be in there in a flash.
- Naieve, on 06/30/2008, -0/+33What do you expect, China has a Security Council veto.
The worlds acts as if the UN has legitimacy, yeah sure.
Get used to watching genocide and mass murder, there is money for China to make there.- didroe, on 06/30/2008, -9/+3Every other country would do the same if they thought they could gain something for it. A short look at recent history will show you that.
- humperdeath, on 06/30/2008, -2/+7FTA: “It’s a deliberate nationwide strategy to reoccupy space so all space is occupied by the Zanu of Mugabe,” said Jon Stewart, a director of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum."
Go Jon Stewart! You seem to be on top of just about everything. Keep up the great work! - ironrex, on 06/30/2008, -0/+7didroe you're wrong. The US at least has some standards. We don't let our oil companies make deals with countries that violate US or UN policy. That's why we don't deal with darfur and China does. China just doesn't give a *****.
- prophetpimp, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2China is minitng money out of conflicts. Its letting this ***** play along and snatching up Zimbabwe Assets (Ore Mines, State Run companies, Agricultural land) at Dirt Cheap rates. Once Mugabe goes they make a ton of money.
- trousercustard, on 07/01/2008, -2/+0The US effectively controls the UN anyway, as worthless an organistaion as it is, in my opinion.
- Duncanizer1, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Don't forget that China is not only taking advantage of the situation economically but is also giving the ZANU weapons to protect their dictatorship.
- RealHyperX, on 06/30/2008, -13/+3I can't wait till Obama is in the office. We can expect very similar reasoning as Mugabe. Just with more charm.
- Cybermaul, on 06/30/2008, -0/+8[citation needed]
- Nillerus, on 06/30/2008, -5/+7What? You fail. You sir, have never in your entire life read a single article about Zimbabwe. And don't try to remedy the fact with wikipedia either. You're a disgusting racist, who sees nothing but colour of skin. Shame.
- cathpah, on 06/30/2008, -1/+6yep...that's right...obama is baby murderer who holds illegimate elections and threatens those that oppose his authority with death. that's definitely how it is.
oh wait, you're an idiot. Turn off fox news and open a book or something that might lead to an increase in your intelligence. - RealHyperX, on 06/30/2008, -3/+2I lived in Nigeria. That is enough to know how nationalistic leaders operate. Obama's heritage and pride in his 'blackness' will have an effect on how he leads this country. How can I turn off the fox. A fox is a free animal.
- TheSnuffster, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The troll is full up now. No more feeding the troll for today, kids!
- yodaj007, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1"I lived in Nigeria. That is enough to know how nationalistic leaders operate. Obama's heritage and pride in his 'blackness' will have an effect on how he leads this country."
Let's change this to:
I lived in England. That is enough to know how nationalistic leaders operate. McCain's heritage and pride in his 'whiteness' will have an effect on how he leads this country.
Or how about:
I lived in Candyland. That is enough to know how nationalistic leaders operate. Strawberry Shortcake's heritage and pride in her 'tartness' will have an effect on how she leads this country.
- jamieflagg, on 06/30/2008, -9/+3i wonder if it bounced. splat!
- sjl127, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3You obviously don't have any kids - and please, don't.
- Duncanizer1, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Conditions are pretty awful, true. If you openly mention that you support the MDC, you're better off dead. Preferably quickly too. The presidential army (let's call it that) will do anything, even kill babies. They are proven that already but no one is doing anything to help them (the people); neighbor countries are scared ***** and UN, spineless. It'll go on until Mugabe dies, hopefully soon.
- rz8472, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Morgan Tsvangirai deserves some sort of medal. I was amazed that he stayed in the race as long as he did despite the police brutality, the jailings, etc
- Duncanizer1, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2It's surprising he's still alive.
- Ladymongoose, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2I read in another article that the baby's casts are too tight....*****, can someone PLEASE do something to help him???? I think about this constantly- I'm heartbroken thinking of this beautiful baby in such pain. He's going to die if they can't properly set his legs.
- Naieve, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3I think that's the point.
- nohero, on 06/29/2008, -1/+150I doubt the baby was willing to do anything...

If this is politics we seriously need to start looking for a replacement to the current system...like, now. - diggtoast, on 06/30/2008, -1/+22this is not politics. it is terrorism. nothing less.
- AzureRise, on 06/30/2008, -5/+2Acts of violence and terror for political change. You're right, it's the exact definition of terrorism. They're using violence to promote their political agenda.
- blackinthmiddle, on 06/30/2008, -1/+8I had a boss that would do what you just did. He'd take complicated topics and try and simplify them by covering them with blanket statements and buzzwords.

- conradsalvador, on 06/29/2008, -0/+129That is just ruthless. You know you are really screwed up if you are going to harm a defenseless 11 month old child.
- brentfrye, on 06/30/2008, -37/+9Not to lessen the cruelty of these thugs but what is the difference between doing this to a helpless 11 month old and having a "doctor" suck a helpless baby through a tube during an abortion.
- klco, on 06/30/2008, -2/+38Wow that's completely unrelated, thanks.
- natastna2, on 06/30/2008, -6/+30If you can't figure out the difference then you are an enormous idiot.
- AmusedToDeath, on 06/30/2008, -4/+12Because then it's just the mother "taking control" of her own body.
- aidave, on 06/30/2008, -7/+10brentfyre: What a sick fool. You obviously don't have kids or nephews if you think an 11-month old child doesn't feel pain and misery. You are a piece of *****.
- dafragsta, on 06/30/2008, -4/+12Approximately 17 months, a brain, self awareness, a terrible childhood in a stressful situation, and pissing off fundamentalists who want to tell everyone how to live. My mom had me when she was 16. For all the awareness I can remember having, she would've been better off, and given the kind of support I had as a legally blind kid with a resentful father who was ever present and a total douchebag, I probably would have been as well. She stayed in an abusive marriage for 20 years as a result.
You know how they use that line that no baby has said they would've been better off aborted. Yeah, you can scratch that. I have no idea where self-awareness comes from, but my point of observation would have likely appeared somewhere else. - sodade, on 06/30/2008, -9/+5And there you have it - this is what idiot america thinks. There a holocaust going on under their noses and us god dammed liberals are murderous criminals. How can we ever reconcile with these christian whackjobs?
- mozert, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2Did you just Godwin'd the whole thread?
- Skooma714, on 07/01/2008, -8/+3No, just African.
- rolf, on 07/01/2008, -1/+11Skooma, you do realize how many children/babies perished in the American invasion of Iraq? An unprovoked war?
But I guess it's more humane when you can send missiles and never see the human casualties up close. - stoanhart, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1It's coming straight for us!
- fatjoe, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1I bless the rains down in Africa
- brentfrye, on 06/30/2008, -37/+9Not to lessen the cruelty of these thugs but what is the difference between doing this to a helpless 11 month old and having a "doctor" suck a helpless baby through a tube during an abortion.
- Rizoh, on 06/29/2008, -0/+79Mugabe is a beast and will eventually get his much-deserved punishment. It's a shame that African leaders are sitting on their hands while the people of Zimbabwe are being slaughtered on the daily.
- markder, on 06/30/2008, -0/+20It's such a shame that this piece of ***** was lucky enough to live to be as old as he is.
- mypetridish, on 06/30/2008, -21/+5You westerners were the ones who bred these problems when you divided and occupied their lands, and left abruptly after WWII without making sure that they could feed themselves.
If anything, you should feel ashamed of your forefathers. The African leaders have their hands tied. They are poor and won't be able to do much against Bob.
Where is your President Bush? Why isn't he liberating this war-torn country?- blinkfink182, on 06/30/2008, -0/+12There's no oil there, duh.
- Kyrgizion, on 06/30/2008, -2/+11Wow yeah, let's absolve the current generation of African leaders from their overly blatant inability to take care of their own nations, in their personal favor and at their subjects' expense. I mean, it was all the white man's fault for enslaving those people two centuries ago in the first place! Also, that apparently lifts the responsibility of those in charge nowadays as well, since it's considered normal for them to squander the meager gifts of the west on their own opulent riches rather than their starving compatriots.
Not saying all is well and clean in the west, not by a long shot, but please... - kublerross, on 06/30/2008, -1/+11too many people? not enough food?
try CONTRACEPTION!
its great, its cheap, well give it to you - prophetpimp, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Thank Jebus for the lack of contraception in Africa moron. The Vaticans Abstinence policy is failing hard and its even more devastating in Africa because of AIDS
- trousercustard, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Mypetridish, you say "You westerners...", but yet your profile says you are from the United States. What the hell is that all about, weirdo? I shouldn't even consider entering into a discussion about post- colonialism with you, you are clearly a *****.
- Y0tsuya, on 06/30/2008, -1/+14And his supporters will get amnesty in order to "heal the nation". I don't foresee a good outcome by waiting. Best to take out the bastard right away. But then China might whine and we must not upset the Chinese.
- earthforce1, on 06/30/2008, -1/+10> Mugabe is a beast and will eventually get his much-deserved punishment.
Sadly, this is just wishful thinking. Did Idi Amin ever get what he deserved? How many perpetrators of the Rwandan Genocide have been brought to justice?
They even gave the SOB a knighthood and called him some kind of hero.- ELCad, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5There took back the knighthood last week.
- Buzzpatrol, on 07/01/2008, -0/+8You are wrong!
The deserved punishment for what Robert Mugabe is doing would be something in the lines of daily rapes with barb-wired baseball bats, having your eyes burned out of your skull before eventually being left naked and gagged in a random village who's citizens he raped and pillaged..
And that is not an approved sentence even in Africa.- ramunenke, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Umm, I would settle with him being dethroned and charged as a mass murderer and a tyrant in front of the international community and get thrown in jail for life, but your idea is good. A little rough but I see where your heart is.
- Disregard, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1He's 84, he's going to die quietly in his bed. Stop believing in existential justice.
- ScurM, on 06/29/2008, -0/+68That's what living under a dictator for 28 years will produce. ***** disgusting.
- Qtip42, on 07/01/2008, -3/+1Probably shouldn't vote for mccain then because he'll continue the bush dictatorship.
- str3ama, on 06/29/2008, -36/+19Before anyone gets the idea of saying we should attack them, realize that we're not in a condition to really defend anyone else seeing as how we have our own dictator tyrant to deal with first.
- Darrelc, on 06/30/2008, -6/+23Yeah, Bush's cronioes go round breaking childrens legs...
- Hypersapien, on 06/30/2008, -12/+9I have no doubt that they would if they felt it would protect Bush
- kaelyiesta, on 06/30/2008, -8/+11No, they have our military, contract soldiers for hire, and foreign allies do it for them.
- quaxon, on 06/30/2008, -11/+7yea, they actually do in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- diggtoast, on 06/30/2008, -1/+16this guy makes George W. Bush look like Martin Luther King
- Darrelc, on 06/30/2008, -6/+23Yeah, Bush's cronioes go round breaking childrens legs...
- phreak79, on 06/30/2008, -0/+24When you thought they couldn't fall any lower. Sadly many other African nations have dictatorships so getting change will be very hard.
- Buzzpatrol, on 07/01/2008, -1/+3NO,change is not HARD..its just really expensive. And we don't want that!
- BillE3, on 06/30/2008, -31/+14The liberals of America did support apartheid and Mugabe for a better Africa.
- Spartanious, on 06/30/2008, -5/+12He was a freedom fighter before he ever became president. It went all downhill after that.
- akamurph, on 06/30/2008, -0/+8Sooo, it was okay that the US supported Osama when he was a freedom fighter in Afghanistan? I think it was okay, we had a common enemy. But I bet you've blasted the US for doing this and if so what is the difference?
- Spartanious, on 06/30/2008, -5/+12He was a freedom fighter before he ever became president. It went all downhill after that.
- ancientshoes, on 06/30/2008, -32/+7....and the liberals think we should just let this happen.
- untzboy, on 06/30/2008, -1/+15"Liberals" aren't the ones controlling the ***** army, are they? I thought people outgrew labels by middle school, outside of file organization purposes.
- diggtoast, on 06/30/2008, -0/+15this is not about liberal vs. conservative. it is about human rights.
- ancientshoes, on 06/30/2008, -6/+1yes, and the right thing to do would go in and stop these monsters, but noooo, liberals think all war is evil
- PopcornDave, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6@ancietnshoes
No, the "liberals" as you call whoever you're speaking of would prefer that the UN go in and solve the problem. Unfortunately the UN has all the power of a toothless pitbull with arthritis.
- Roobix, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1Oh wait, you're not being sarcastic.
You'll take any chance to promote your own views, won't you?
Get a life buddy!
- gryphon50, on 06/30/2008, -8/+20How I would love to kill people that do this kind of thing. I guess I should be worried about my mental state to say that.
- charm803, on 06/30/2008, -0/+16Actually, I was wondering why no one had the guts to assassinate him in a an elaborate scheme.
I wouldn't do it, but this sounds like a good movie plot.- ep53, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Do i hear "Last King Of Scotland"?
- misguidedmonkey, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Why wouldn't you do it? I'd happily assassinate Bob Mugabe.

- Budkin, on 06/30/2008, -19/+203So why aren't we invading this country again? Oh yeah, no oil.
- onthecake, on 06/30/2008, -20/+13Yeah.. Cause invading Iraq has really brought the price of oil down.
- scabbers, on 06/30/2008, -7/+25GW sells you the gas, he doesn't buy it.
- sabroskie, on 06/30/2008, -2/+9You really think they're doing it for OUR benefit?
- ptheroux, on 06/30/2008, -11/+6Yeah cause killing is a great way to stop killing.
- ObamaWins08, on 06/30/2008, -1/+17hmmmm.... If I kill one who might live to kill 10 others, we have a net profit of 9 lives. Yes, therefore, killing is a great way to stop killing...
What, you say there is no proof that he might kill 10 more? Then consider it "aggressive rehabilitation" - barc0001, on 06/30/2008, -1/+12So you're saying that people shouldn't have stood up to the Axis in WWII since that's no way to stop killing?
- thecatcantalk, on 06/30/2008, -1/+5Yeah, 'cause war never accomplished anything...except ending slavery, defeating the Nazis, founding the U.S., overthrowing the Czar and various other royal monsters, ending genocide in Serbo-Croatia, etc.
Actually, killing a dictator is a great way to make him stop ***** with people. And nearly every revolutionary social and technological innovation came from from war. If it weren't for war, we'd all still be living in mud huts and dying of mysterious diseases at age 25...also going hungry all winter. - ptheroux, on 06/30/2008, -2/+2Guys, it's not quite as simple as just taking out the bad dictators. Have you learned nothing from Iraq debacle? The reality of military interventions is spending hundreds of billions of dollars, getting thousands of American soldier killed, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, occupying a country for years, and ending up with a puppet government that is no better than what was there originally.
- ObamaWins08, on 06/30/2008, -1/+17hmmmm.... If I kill one who might live to kill 10 others, we have a net profit of 9 lives. Yes, therefore, killing is a great way to stop killing...

- tuxerware, on 06/30/2008, -8/+4Has it occurred to you that it's against international law to invade another sovereign country? I guess when you do it as often as the US does, it's easy to forget.
- PopcornDave, on 06/30/2008, -1/+6But it's okay when the UN does it?
At what point to human rights triumph international law? - tuxerware, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2Well anyone can say what you say. Bush used the same argument for Iraq, now hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead because of the invasion. I agree that something should be done, but it would be much better is the African union took a stance Mugabe for once.
- PopcornDave, on 06/30/2008, -1/+6But it's okay when the UN does it?
- akamurph, on 06/30/2008, -3/+12That comment makes me laugh every time! This sort of ***** was happening in Iraq for many many many years. We go in and everyone complains how evil the US is. Now this ***** is happening in Zimbabwe and now you want to invade them? Is it okay this time?
- Memitim, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1What does "want" have to do with anything? It is what it is, regardless of what any of us actually want.
- StarlessKnight, on 07/01/2008, -1/+5Do you remember the large PR push to save the Iraqis? I don't. I do, however, remember this very large push to stop the Evil Satan-Worshipping Dictator Saddam Hussein from launching a Weapon of Mass Destruction against America, its interests, or the innocent general World Public. So... seeing how no one's saying Africa's a WMD threat, and the humanitarian effort is pretty blatantly obvious, I think "selling" an invasion would be A. easier, and B. better off in terms of Public Support. Not saying we should, per se, but Iraq != Africa. Different game.
- FriedChicken43, on 07/01/2008, -0/+0Bush is the Evil Fukin anti christ and hes responsible for bringing this upon zimbabwe
- hnsez, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Democracy only grows from the blood of patriots so we need to donate the lives of 4000 American soldiers, that should be enough blood no? Wait, we tried that already and it still isn't working...
- FrostyTheDMan, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1We shouldn't invade! Our military should be used for peaceful purposes!
I think it's high time that somebody at the U.N. send this Mugabe fellow a strongly worded letter.
- onthecake, on 06/30/2008, -20/+13Yeah.. Cause invading Iraq has really brought the price of oil down.

- Memitim, on 06/30/2008, -1/+3Probably not. That sort of thing, and a whole lot worse, isn't all that uncommon in tribal warfare. It's far more likely that they'll retain power and continue to commit such abuses until a rival faction starts a bloody coup and starts the ball rolling under a new name. The more things change...
- Rawclyce, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2Wow, calling it "tribal warfare" is over-simplifying it with a touch of ignorance, no?
The situation in Africa is ***** because of foreign powers' involvements, it doesn't boil down to "savage African warfare" which is the picture you paint. - Memitim, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Not at all. Tribal bonds are far more powerful and so hold a hell of a lot more meaning than the artificial national boundaries. So you are right, foreign interference has exascerbated problems with balance of power arrangements between tribes. But the fact of the matter is that tribal warfare is a daily reality, and it is ***** brutal. The current situation with Zimbabwe is a textbook case, but it isn't limited to Africa, as the Serbs, Albanians, Croats, Sunni, Shia, and Kurds can all attest.
You just associate "tribe" with primitive, when it really means a social group that lacks the formality of a state. What was that you were saying about ignorance?

China gives Mugabe weapons in exchange for mineral and natural resources at extreme discounts. To further screw the Zimbabwean people, the profits from these sales all go straight to Mugabe's personal wealth (the Chinese gifted him a $25 million palace in 2005 -- to add to his 6 other known palaces in Zimbabwe alone). He doesn't even hide it .. he flaunts it .. you can see the pictures of the luxurious interior on the web.
Mugabe funds the army and his loyal militias really well, they suppress any inkling of opposition. They kill and rape not only the families of opposition but also their neighbors (for not reporting or to make an example). Any armed opposition group would have no funding .. at least the US had funding from France to resist the Briotish during the revolution. And the John Birchers want us to withdraw completely and be a rogue state...[shaking head] - cutchyacokov, on 06/30/2008, -0/+15The US has ALWAYS done the same sorts of things with the UN. The main difference is if it is a country that the US (or one of their allies) is supporting, we don't here about the atrocities, in the western world. Ethnic cleansing against the Kurds was going on in Iraq and in Turkey during the height of America's support of those to countries we heard nothing about this in North America. In the case of Iraq we only started to hear about this in the mainstream media AFTER the US turned against Iraq during the prelude to the Golf War in the early 90s. In Turkey no such shift of allegiances have happened and the remaining Kurds live under extreme repression and will likely be absorbed by the Turks. Similar stories can be heard about Columbia (in fact much of South/Central America), East Timor, Iran, South Africa etc, etc, etc.
A countries internal freedoms and political system does nothing to affect that countries foreign policy so long as only a very small percentage of the population understand said foreign policy and the media seems to be advocating ignorance. - potatomasher, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4The security council is what's wrong with the UN.

- CosmicJustice, on 06/30/2008, -2/+9No, not at all. The UN was not created as a world police force. Read a book.
- Memitim, on 06/30/2008, -0/+8The chief purpose of forming the United Nations is to maintain collective security. That is, to prevent another world war by bringing every nation together to oppose any rogue states that turn against a member state. All of the other crap that has been lumped in is more a matter of convenience from having access to a centralized body like the UN than as any real driving factor. As long as the next Nazi Germany gets shot down early on instead of waiting until they own half a continent, the UN has fulfilled their intended purpose.
For instance, when Iraq invaded Kuwait, that event triggered the collective security arrangement. The member nations banded together to defend Kuwait against the invasion. That was the first and only time that this purpose was fulfilled. Technically the United States violated the collective security agreement by invading Iraq without UN sanction, but in being the most powerful member of the UN by a long shot the United States can freely disregard the agreement at will.
As for Zimbabwe, while there are agencies that have been created within the UN in order to address problems associated with Mugabe's reign of terror, there isn't any kind of independent world police force that springs into action when atrocities occur. Hell, with the frequency that these sort of things actually do happen around the world it would take a security force that could rival the US Armed Forces just to try and keep up. Whenever you see the dudes running around in the light blue helmets, it typically means that they were invited by the host government to assist with peacekeeping operations, either in terms of overseeing a cease-fire agreement or to assist with humanitarian efforts. Think of them more as master-at-arms than as police.- createuniverses, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Good point. In this case, they should alter their charter to reflect what it is the UN can realistically achieve, and what it cannot. They should stop talking about "human rights" because:
- They are un-enforcable
- Humans don't inherently have any "rights"
- It is not within the power of the UN to actually grant human rights to anybody
- They are a broken promise
The tools the UN needs to have before it can talk about human rights would turn it into a global dictator:
- The power to compel a nation to pass or revoke any of its laws
- The power to compel a nation to follow the spirit of the law
- The power to change the government of a nation
- The power to change the governing style of a nation
If you're paying attention, you'll notice the USA has been doing all of these things for the past few decades. However, it does them not for the cause of human rights, not even for the cause of its own citizens, but for the cause of a hidden, global elite to consolidate their power. In such a world, "human rights" is a sad, pathetic joke.
- createuniverses, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Good point. In this case, they should alter their charter to reflect what it is the UN can realistically achieve, and what it cannot. They should stop talking about "human rights" because:
- createuniverses, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1I'm convinced that the creation and continued existence of the UN is a public relations excercise. Like religion, it is merely a psychological device to get people used to the idea of a grand overseer controlling their nations and ultimately, their lives, with the implicit message that individual nations and individuals cannot be trusted to run our own affairs and determine the course of their own lives.
The fact that it is hypocritical, toothless and paralytic is also no accident - it is intended to convince us that our attempts to improve the world are feeble and ineffectual, it is intended to remind us that we have no real power, that the world's savageries are unstoppable, poisoning our perception of reality to such an extent that we end up thinking that all this ***** is normal. Eventually, our perception will be so broken that we'll think a one world dictator is a good idea. - FriedChicken43, on 07/01/2008, -0/+0Un is doing Nothing but paving the way for america to attack ''OILY'' countries

A continuation of sanctions eventually forced another election, overseen by international collectivists.
"To nobody's surprise, the more powerful of the two terrorist leaders, Robert Mugabe, edged out rival Joshua Nkomo for the top slot, in balloting which was described as "one gun, one vote."
"This was heralded by the world press as the gate to a new era, as Cecil Rhodes' name was dropped. During the 1980s, the saying was that "One used to go to Rhodesia to see the ruins of Zimbabwe. Now it's the other way around." American President Jimmy Carter hosted Mugabe at the White House in 1980, proclaiming that he had watched happily as Mugabe emerged victorious, adding that he was going to use similar tactics in his own reelection campaign!"

The Zulus were a warrior society, the moved south around 1800 forcing other tribes to flee to the perceived safety of the Cape. The Zulu annihilated smaller tribes or forced them to assimilate for survival.
Why is African history more noble in the past then today?Mugabe would have been just another African petty Chieftain and if the Zulus were anywhere around they would have cut his head off and planted it on a pole.
The Africans are a clannish warrior society and its only natural for a strongman like Mugabe to hold his grip on power for so long when probably half of his Army is made up of relatives or tribal members - Laughsatyou, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4silly angry black men and their inferiority complexes.
- toowired77, on 06/30/2008, -4/+9I wonder what the Nazis would do without Digg. Is Burma in Africa? Is Germany in Africa? What about Cambodia and Yugoslavia. The US invades Iraq and we blame Iraq's problems on their extreme interpretation of Islam. Something is not right here. I will not offer any excuses for the failures in Africa, but making our problems into a racial thing is the height of Hubris. DO NOT blame the African people for the western backed corrupt leaders.
1.South Africa -- The humiliation of apartheid and broken promises of a government that does not care
2.Congo -- Where do all the diamonds go?
3.Nigeria -- What about Chernobyl? Is that in Nigeria
4.Kenya -- Kenya will back on its feet before you know it
5.Rwanda -- France provided all the training and planning
6.Compton -- Compton is not in Africa.
7.Detroit - What a joke. Are black people to blame for closed down factories.
Why don't you link the problems in Bosnia with rednecks in the Appalachians? Why don't you find a link between Jeffrey Damer and Hitler? Why not make it a racial one? - SilasTomorrow, on 06/30/2008, -3/+6You had an interesting point there, until you stuck predominately-black US cities in the list. Now it makes you sound like a bigot.
- reposado, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4He is speaking what he see. Cities in the US w/a large black population = high crime and low education.
- CHANNELOCK, on 06/30/2008, -3/+4Ha ha ...just ***** with you digg monsters,Your all so ***** pompous
- Rubuntu, on 06/30/2008, -18/+5All a result of colonialism, the white man raping the land of resources, dividing and conquering tribes, disfranchising people.... and not giving ***** back to Africa for all their crimes.
- TheInfinityZero, on 06/30/2008, -1/+10Amongst all the spam and political garbage, stories like these really get to me on Digg.
Stories like this... I don't have a word for the anger/sadness/loath it provokes.- lordtyros, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4It's hard to ignore atrocities when there's a picture of the victim staring you in the face.
Thousands brutalized? Just a statistic. One child crying on the floor with her legs in casts? That really hits home.
:(
- lordtyros, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4It's hard to ignore atrocities when there's a picture of the victim staring you in the face.
- tonto69, on 06/30/2008, -3/+15If Africa represented the whole human race...humanity would be a failure!
- toowired77, on 06/30/2008, -4/+1Too bad all of humanity did come from Africa. Why blame the people for the corruption of their leaders. Everyone on this planet comes from black survivors. Show some solidarity.
- Laughsatyou, on 07/01/2008, -1/+3proof that the first humans were black?
- toowired77, on 06/30/2008, -4/+1Too bad all of humanity did come from Africa. Why blame the people for the corruption of their leaders. Everyone on this planet comes from black survivors. Show some solidarity.
- Splutterbug, on 06/30/2008, -1/+10Surely somebody has to do something the UN? South Africa?
- Nicksname1, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5Unfortunately Mugabe has been allowed to do this ***** for over 23 years. It's disgusting and he just got re-elected (if you can even call it that) so it's going to continue. Thank goodness people are still brave enough to take pictures, write articles, and document these types of events so it will hopefully one day stop being ignored by the rest of the world that has the ability to stop it.
- PSotter, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4You'd think that South Africa would be an outspoken critic, but they've been alarmingly complacent in this whole affair. South Africa's a pretty scary place these days, what with mobs killing refugees in the streets. Maybe S.A. thinks that dictatorship is preferable to a temporarily tumultuous transitional government. Ugh... sorry. Ranting.
- iainc, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Laughs. That impotent *****, Mbeki, will do nothing -- Mugabe's age and colour demand that Mbeki show him respect and deference. And when he gets in, Zuma, will more than likely emulate Mugabe because it'll win him votes and keep him in power. I wish Mandela was still youthful enough to be voted back in.
South Africa has gone from being a racist state to, well, a corrupt and racist state. It's also going down the ***** unless the blacks realise that two wrongs don't make a right. - Disregard, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1The African Union are doing something - applauding Mugabe as a colonial liberator.
- petebot, on 06/30/2008, -1/+6There really needs to be more outrage from the international community over this guy's sham of an election...
- 9bpm9, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5The international community didn't care when people were chopping up their neighbors with machetes in Rwanda.
- Hillsfar, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2Nor in Darfur. Nor in Sierra Leone.
It's all about the oil. If the country has lots of oil and China ain't involved, or if the country is a potential pipeline for oil from the Caspian Sea region then we move in.
- Hillsfar, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2Nor in Darfur. Nor in Sierra Leone.

- Naieve, on 06/30/2008, -6/+21That
Is
Africa
Get used to it, the UN will never do anything. Russia and China are on the security council.
Go donate some money and make believe you are solving something.- 9bpm9, on 06/30/2008, -2/+9The UN never does anything. It doesn't matter that Russia and China are on the council, the United Nations is a JOKE.
- hiteshsharma, on 06/30/2008, -1/+4Ands whats up with African people.. How can they treat their own people this way?
Whats AU for?
And yes I dont think Zimbabwe has Oil so forget any of the Developed nations doing anything..- Laughsatyou, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1african union.
- thegodfaza, on 06/30/2008, -2/+2Same thing with Darfur. No one cares about whats going on. Unless there's oil to be made.
- Laughsatyou, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2we never went into somalia.
- Naieve, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6Truthfully, the problem isn't oil. We have gone in plenty of places without oil.
The problem is Africa.
Where do you stop?
We would have to spend a couple centuries sorting that mess out, and we can't even deal with 5 years in Iraq.
It's just not practical.
The mess is too big for the USA, UN, EU, AU, or any combination you want to come up with.
Only a very brutal country could go in there and impose what needs done, it would be VERY messy, with no guarantee it would work.- iunzera, on 07/01/2008, -0/+0Didn't Europe try that during the colonization?
- Naieve, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Europe was more worried about money then fixing the countries.
You have to train the indigenous personnel instead of making your own people indispensable, which is why Africa went to hell when they left. When the colonials left they took the people who knew how to keep things running with them.
- Skooma714, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3Africa?
That is SPARTA!
- seanfyfe, on 06/30/2008, -11/+1It's a damn shame there's no oil there, or the USA might actually step up and do the right thing for once. Thanks Bush, you spineless puppet.
- 9bpm9, on 06/30/2008, -1/+6If he's a puppet it wouldn't be his decision to make, so therefore he wouldn't be spineless for anything because he has no decisions to make anyways if he's a puppet of some other power.
- Laughsatyou, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1alright we get the point, US only goes to war over oil. you are so enlightened that you came to that conclusion on your own and not by reading the 50 times it was posted in this article and the billions of other times its been posted in every topic on digg. . *claps hands*
- FriedChicken43, on 07/01/2008, -0/+0Peopl3 here in digg dont want to hear the Truth Sean So there is No Point
- Brownds, on 06/30/2008, -5/+2TIA
- tizle, on 06/30/2008, -1/+13The UN along with other countries needs to hit the Zimbabwe ministers where it hurts the most. They need to freeze the international bank accounts of these ministers, cancel the visas of all their kids who are overseas for schooling and cancel the ministers visas too so that they can't travel outside the country. Once they start to loose out personally, they will turn on Mugabe and get rid of him.
- Ljay90, on 06/30/2008, -2/+5While I agree with you, it won't work, and here's why:
-Russia and China are funding this *****.
-Russia and China are on the security council.
-Thanks to the war in Iraq, we're indebted ungodly sums of money to the Chinese government, so we "can't" go against their wishes.- one2gamble, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2bs, just let them try and "collect"
- BoatCaptainBob, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2People such as this, who command thugs such as these, simply need to be removed from this world. There is a time for talk, and a time for action. These thugs have tortured people to death by forcing them to move logs with wire attached to there genitals, as well as pouring molten plastic all over men until they die. The African Union doesn't care and the United Nations are all talk. The U.S isn't going to get involved and we can count on the world to sit by and do nothing as usual except send letters.
This will turn into Burma, give it a few weeks and no one will care. Sad.
- Ljay90, on 06/30/2008, -2/+5While I agree with you, it won't work, and here's why:
- Moonkeeper, on 06/30/2008, -5/+3Why not a private charity do something? The charity could collect funding and use it to arm the refugees and the opposition. If someone did this to my kid I'd take a free gun in a heartbeat.
- ragingflamerboy, on 06/30/2008, -1/+3You're asking the wrong question if 'free gun! free gun!' is the answer.
