- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -14/+103but i am le tired.
- rolandde, on 10/12/2007, -63/+144I wish Americans had the balls to riot after Bushes 2000 victory.
- DinX, on 10/12/2007, -11/+87I wonder how many cars will burn tonight.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -29/+103Have you noticed that no one riots when liberals win?
- cvrefugee, on 10/12/2007, -14/+72For sale:
(1) authentic WWII-era French rifle.
Condition:
Never fired, dropped only once. - starcrunchfx, on 10/12/2007, -11/+66Its good for the French economy really. More cars destroyed means more cars needing to be purchased.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -29/+79Opponents to liberals have other means to change things. Like money and power.
- Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -13/+61It's because liberals don't own the cars their burning, the shops their looting, nor the election they're protesting.
- faithfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -24/+66Because conservatives don't believe in riot for social change.
- qazyhoods, on 10/12/2007, -23/+63haha wherever Muslims go, they bring a little bit of Mideast with them
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -10/+47It looks like Royal and the opposition are making good on their threat of rioting and violence if they lost. Not very democratic if you ask me.
- NoStoppingUs, on 10/12/2007, -14/+51have you ever noticed liberal speakers on college campuses dont get harassed? i'm sure someone will say YES THEY DO. so i encourage you to prove it, and we'll compare. i put a news article up, you put a news article up.
i'm sure i'll get dugg down because its true. that seems to be the case these days on digg. no one riots when liberals when because i'm willing to bet 99.99% of those have to burn cars to prove their point (because they sure as hell can't prove it intellectually and with fact) vote democrat. - Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40What?!
It's one thing to protest and another thing to riot. Why destroy property and break the law? You're only making innocent people's lives miserable and making your own position look bad. Protest - yes. Rioting - no. - randomracoon, on 10/12/2007, -18/+54"I wish Americans had the balls to riot after Bushes 2000 victory"
Well they would have, but then GW would have "Liberated and spread Democracy" to them too. - Swifti, on 10/12/2007, -9/+46Don't you think it'll be rather unusual to see roving bands of senior citizens in the streets, turning over cars, tearing down street lamps, and looting stores? :P
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Of course it's a minority, that's why it's a riot as opposed to a revolution.
- Chief5232, on 10/12/2007, -16/+50http://digg.com/political_opinion/LGF_Poll_How_Many_Cars_Will_Be_Torched
- john2kx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36Rioting is one of France's many past-times.. This isn't news.
- PhairOh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Voter turnout of 85%... That's unbelievable!
- Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Cars burn year round in the UK too. Although, its nothing to do with any election, just some chavs burning their latest twoc.
- Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36"just some chavs burning their latest twoc."
I have absolutely no idea what that means. - break99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Some people respects democracy only when they win.
I wish they could simply accept the result of the vote. - Yout, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31The left-wing in America would be considered right-wingers in Europe. We have a two-party system in name only.
- hokkos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31I'm french, and as far as I can know there is little riots, for one time it is not slums but from the extrem left (Ligue Communiste Révolutionnaire, don't laugh it's true), they try to put a mess in france but it is from a minoritie.
- DinX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Cars get burned year in year out in France according a documentary I saw a while back. Every day many cars turn into torches.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article607860.ece
"The figures are stark. An average of 112 cars a day have been torched across France so far this year and there have been 15 attacks a day on police and emergency services."
The article is from october 2006. But this was allready happening before the massive car burnings in 2 years ago. - coditza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21@ISIfunded911: it's hypocrisy to complain about low income when France is the country with the LESS amount of work hours per week.
- Stochio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24I think this is because the left-wing ideology suspects that they are "getting screwed." They need the system to protect them from evil/bad people/etc. This is why I think social liberals take exception with the 2nd Amendment. They think that it is the government's job to protect them. On economic matters, the "getting screwed" mindset translates into social programs/protections/lots of laws, etc.
So, I think left-wing people are more apt to protest because they tend to think that they're getting screwed.
By the way, I'm neither left or right wing so any responses that go that route are fruitless. - Caster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"Great Britain is next to kick out the left-wing govt. of Tony Blair."
Today's Labour party is the most right wing of the 3 main partys right now. - PainCompliance, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Nah, "students" "repressed minorities"
To live in France and claim you are 'repressed' well, the irony is just off the charts isn't it? - codye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Like others have noted above, Sarkozy is considered a "liberal" in European political parlance despite his party affiliation. Royale is quite plainly a socialist, one that seeks to "conserve" the status quo of 35 hour work weeks and rigid market regulations.
I'd be careful about applying the monikers "liberal" and "conservative" to foreign politicians when these words quite clearly have different meanings outside the American context. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twoc - wushi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18the riots are actually very small and localised in tiny over crowded areas (posting from france)
- highandmighty, on 10/12/2007, -12/+28“We are Socialists, enemies, mortal enemies of the present capitalist economic system with its exploitation of the economically weak, with its injustice in wages, with its immoral evaluation of individuals according to wealth and money instead of responsibility and achievement, and we are determined under all circumstances to abolish this system!”
Adolf Hitler in his May Day Speech, Berlin, 1 May 1927 - Stochio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18From the article:
"On Friday, Ms Royal - who would have been the country's first woman president - warned of 'violence and brutalities triggered across the country' if he wins."
It's not unreasonable to assign some blame to the socialist's leader for statements like this. Look no further. - Renton, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25Nobody said it yet? Fine
"Riots in France following election results. France surrenders." - starcrunchfx, on 10/12/2007, -21/+36"I wish Americans had the balls to riot after Bushes 2000 victory. "
I recall eggs being thrown at his limo pretty shortly after. That gets the point accross better than massive havoc. Don't you think? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16to clarify chavs burning their latest twoc
chavs are a bunch of people usually with low intelligence who try to be "gangsta" by doing alot of drugs and drinking lots of strong cider while listening to hip hop being blasted out of the stereo system for a small hatchback thats been "pimped" and looks ridiculous. and TWOC is short for taking without consent aka stealing
so chavs burning their latest twoc = ***** burning a stolen car - Seth024, on 10/12/2007, -29/+44I bet the French would be rioting even if Royal won.
btw: I think Sarkozy was the better candidate and I'm happy he won. - Stochio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@starcrunchfx
"Its good for the French economy really. More cars destroyed means more cars needing to be purchased."

You can't create wealth from destruction. Society is still down a car. You cannot create wealth by digging holes. - perrym, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21let me guess, "youths" again?
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15It sounds like France has taken a step in the right direction. Maybe now they can start cleaning up the failed policies of the extreme left and bring sanity to the anarchy and cowardice which France has come to represent.
The socialist use of fear, class envy and intolerance failed them this time. - Iolite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Having lived in LA during the Rodney King riots, I can tell you that rioting doesn't solve anything. People destroying the stores, modes of transportations, and other services in their neighborhood only hurts themselves. So you torched your neighbor's car - how does that make the situation any better?
- Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14@woojoo: 2nd? Aren't they on their 5th attempt at a republic already?
- caution, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21another victory!
another nail in the coffin of socialism and islamic appeasement - Boing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Firestarter - Prodigy...queued up in frenchie winamps everywhere.
- jofukia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Liberal in Europe refers to those who support liberal economic policy.
They riot because they think Sarkozy is too "liberal". - KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -11/+23insert something about the france retreating
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14 This is nothing, just a prelude I'm sure. The Muslims of France are a powderkeg waiting to explode, I have a feeling they have been gearing up for a much bigger event, probably hwen it's warmer.
Let's face it they should never have been allowed into Europe en masse anyway. That immigration policy is suicidally stupid. I may get called a lot of names for saying that but I'm certain future events will vindicate that statement. - Xeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Chirac and now Sarkozy are still left of any Democratic presidential candidate for '08...
- bestepisodes, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17It is night there now actually, and I have a friend who just assured me she is sleeping soundly only a 5 minute walk from Place de Bastille :)
