Rights groups say torture widespread in Palestinian jails
haaretz.com — Two human rights groups on Monday decried widespread torture of political opponents by bitter Palestinian rivals Hamas and Fatah. Interviews with three victims and a doctor backed the reports of abuse. One detainee told of being beaten with pipes and having a screwdriver rammed into his back. Another said he was pulled off the ground by a rope.

- HumanCattle, on 07/29/2008, -13/+4Because of anti-semitism, right?
- DrDreyfus, on 07/29/2008, -2/+21No.
Because you and your friends will bury this just because it's pro-Israel.
Shut the ***** up. - HumanCattle, on 07/29/2008, -16/+3I don't bury any stories, unless they are linking to porn / scams. I don't bury articles that I disagree with. I don't astroturf, and I'm not a part of any so-called "bury brigade".
How bout you, chuckles?

- Kizilbash, on 07/28/2008, -27/+7Oh hey, suddenly human rights groups' reports ARE reliable.
And gosh, this totally excuses Israeli torture. Let's give them more money.
I don't approve of Palestinians torturing Palestinians either, unlike you lot obviously. It's all part of the same War on Terror (TM) ***** though. Human rights have deteriorated worldwide as a result. Human rights always apply, everywhere, not just when it is in your interest.- DrDreyfus, on 07/29/2008, -2/+23But it's only an outrage when Israel is the accused?
If this report is true it means that other human rights groups have been turning a blind eye to Palestinian human rights violations - indicating a clear bias.
If it's false then there's obviously opportunity for bias within all human rights organizations.- HumanCattle, on 07/29/2008, -13/+3Indicating a clear bias - perhaps even.... anti-semitism?
- Idiggapony, on 07/29/2008, -1/+12Here are a few of Kizilbashs's points:
1. Palestinians torture other Palestinians.
2. This is bad.
3. They do this as part of Western Countries' strategy to suppress terrorism.
I do not believe that point number three is correct.
- DrDreyfus, on 07/29/2008, -2/+23But it's only an outrage when Israel is the accused?
- bernk1, on 07/29/2008, -1/+20The fact that one of these human rights group is Palestinian (Al Haq) should tell you something. Is this likely to change anyone's opinion? Nah!
- yellowcakewalk, on 07/29/2008, -24/+5There are some good human rights groups in Israel, I hope these links are useful
http://yellowcakewalk.net/israeli_peace_movement.h ...- Idiggapony, on 07/29/2008, -1/+17Nope, not useful. Not a story about hating Israel this time.
- ssn697, on 07/29/2008, -2/+14And, once again, yellowcake can't even be honest enough to address the issue.
- DreadPirate, on 07/29/2008, -2/+7SSN - Nor will he be honest enough to return to this thread. Yellow is one of the masters of "post and run". And when called on it, he tries to blame it on having a job. Never mind the fact that he had plenty of time to post in 15 other threads when he claims he was "too busy to respond". He has yet to even come up with a good response when that is brought up, despite being caught at it time and time again.
- catcher6250, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Stop promoting your own damn website you ***** *****
- Idiggapony, on 07/29/2008, -1/+17Nope, not useful. Not a story about hating Israel this time.
- bluto36, on 07/29/2008, -5/+24why do the evil Jooooooooooooos make the Palestinians do this to each other? this is just one more sign of the horrible genocide the Joooooooooooos are committing against the Palestinians! Joooooooos make Palestinians shoot rockets, snipe babies, explode in pizza shops and buses, dig tunnels to get milk... that later explodes. when will this madness end?
- talula76, on 07/29/2008, -0/+8They've been doing it for ages.... even before Hamas was a major player. The ruling PLO/Palestinian Authority (PA) had a very "swift" and "distributed" justice system.
If you were accused of collaborating with Israel, you could hope and pray you only get your kneecaps shot by some neighborhood vigilantes (read: off-duty terrorists), because if they really got angry with you, you would be lynched in ways that would make the KKK take notes (google "palestinian collaborators" for examples).
If someone with connections high up had something against you or your family, you could find yourself a murderer, rapist or whatever, convicted in a 2-day trial by a judge of the opposing faction. This conviction could go away just as fast, if you had your friends pulling some strings for you, but if you didn't, you'd get shot at town square.
So now, when Hamas and the PA are going at it for control over their people, widespread torture is no surprise. - pitlord, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4Haaretz is usually a pretty liberal publication. Their spin is usually liberal, but at least they have at least some journalistic integrity. They are like Israel's New York Times or USA Today.
-_-
Basically, they do check their facts, but they aren't afraid to push their liberals opinions right along side the facts. So, if you can read through the spin you will at least get most of the facts from their stories.
>.>
I think it is funny that this surprises anyone. As if the "palestinians" would deal with their own people any more differently than they deal with Israel. - frofisrael, on 07/30/2008, -2/+1Now I hope more Palestinians will realize that no peace can be expected from any party who believes in promoting their agenda through violence. Come to Jesus - He and only He can give you the peace that passes all understanding.
