Rice: NATO won't let Russia succeed in Georgia
breitbart.com — Speaking to reporters on her way to an emergency NATO meeting in Brussels, Rice warned Moscow it is playing a dangerous game with the United States and its allies, who will stand by Georgia and ensure its recovery from a weeklong Russian invasion.

- pathfinder1974, on 08/18/2008, -18/+0The Russian leadership has made a mistake in believing that America and our allies will stand by and allow them to act like the despots of the 20th century a decade into the 21st century. Regardless of the cost, we must remember what appeasement leads to. America should join Germany in calling for NATO membership for Georgia and begin the process of deploying NATO forces to secure the border of Georgia. Any Russian interference should be met with swift and punishing military repsonse.

Don't worry, I think we're winning the despot contest so far this century. We've invaded twice as many nations as they have, and we're getting ready to make it a hat trick.
I bet you were one of those dumb kids that would kick over a hornet's nest just to see what would happen. - kemp34, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2So you care that much about defending the oligarchy's oil pipeline, you'd be willing to send American young men to die while also risking nuclear war? Are you that dense?

- Kizilbash, on 08/18/2008, -1/+26Yay, let's start WWIII right now.
Let me ask you this? Who is it that has a ring of military bases around the other? Does Russia have bases in any country that has borders with the US? - Fangsinmybeard, on 08/18/2008, -4/+3NATO doesn't bow down to U.S. dicktates and doesn't like getting tea-bagged by a hermaphrodite.
- brsecu, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Why do we care so much about Georgia? If we left them to Russia they would leave our interest alone also. No need to poke them with a stick every chance we get.
- errsta, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Exactly. We've been poking them in the chest and daring them to swing since the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Once the USSR ceased to exist, so should have NATO - or at least it should have been downsized. Instead, NATO was expanded. The original purpose of NATO was "to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down". That was communist Russia/USSR.
Historically Russia is an extremely nationalistic nation and we -directly or through our satellite states in the region- can not expect to continue to encroach on their sphere of influence with impunity. Eventually they are going to react.

- stretch611, on 08/18/2008, -6/+1I wonder if Russia would have had the balls to do this if the US wasn't bogged down in Iraq.
- Doxocopa, on 08/18/2008, -0/+11Ho yeahhh?
And who shot first??? - Miss Condy forgets that in may be in less than 1-2 years the US administration will be broke... 9 TRILLION greenbacks!!!! of public debt!!! - Do US taxpayers have that money???
And what about China? - Does Candy Rice just thought with whom it will stand for??
My bet is...- MarkEarhart, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3She doesn't care. They are deliberately destroyig us.
- americangoy, on 08/18/2008, -0/+16Georgian troops massacring civilians - GOOD.
Russia defending Ossetian civilians and kicking the murdering scum out - BAD.
Got it!
Thanks CNN!- Conspiracy20, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5nice to see you around goy.
- errsta, on 08/19/2008, -0/+270% of South Ossetians are Russian Citizens. Georgia made a bold move and despite their sucking up to America, go their asses handed to them.
Now Mrs. Rice is issuing these threats?
How much more blood (American or otherwise) will be spilled because of arrogant American foreign policy? - kazz67, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3I am so sick and tired of these lying politicians!
I know! I getting! Repeat the lie often enough and it becomes the truth (or gets believed).
But, for Gods sake, give us a break already! - We see through you by now! We know your game and we know your tactics!
The few that continue to be fooled by you is reducing in number every day as the REAL truth gets out! Ergo, your days are numbered. That's the good news.
The bad news is, you haven't realised that fact yet and continue to feed us this illogical, nonsensical, bull *****! God how I look forward to the day you finally give it up! - mcgoo, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3The Democracy Now! interview with Michael Klare talks about how the Russian-Georgian conflict is largely an energy war over who has access to the vast oil and natural gas reserves in the Caspian region. This interview also mentions the involvement of Mr. Scheunemann, the foreign policy advisor to Senator McCain, with Geogian President Saakashvili.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43DQ9Af5Rhs - yellowcakewalk, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5This dust-up is Condi Rice's swan song. Remember, she's supposedly a "russia expert" and allegedly speaks Russian. In the days before 9/11 2001, Condi was busily dismantling the ABM treaty in a deliberate provocation to the Russians. War with Russia has always been her delusional wet dream. But, she's as incompetent as she is belligerent.
- JustinCredabull, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Oh, by all means lets have an America hatefest! Lets all vote for Obama because democrats are so sincere. Let's vote democrat so that we can all tool around in little football cars powered by vegetable farts or little propeller fans. Who needs oil? What with all the catastraphic global warmin... oops, what is it now, oh yeah, "climate change." (had to change the wording when we discovered global cooling is actually going on). Nevertheless, warming or cooling, I'm sure its America's fault. Hell, who needs America? I want to be a citizen of the world! Let's save the whales and owls, and suck the brains out of the babies born inconvieniently. Go LIBs! I'm sick and tired of being in a country that is always threatening the other countries of the world. Disrupting all the dictatorships' sovereignty, trying to force freedom on other populations of the world. Who do we think we are????? I think we should steal money from all the people who have risked their own money, or who have come up with inventions or ideas, and give it to the lazy bastards on welfare. GO DEMOCRATS!
- coffee200am, on 08/19/2008, -1/+1Russia invaded Georgia for security reasons and to free the Ossetians from evil American and Georgian dominance../s
- gruanuts, on 08/19/2008, -1/+0Of course! Communist good --- America bad. Haven't we learned yet? Hell, I root for the Commies every chance I get! I can't stand it when countries like Georgia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic... (I guess all the countries that used to be under the protective, nurturing watch of the Kremlin) make the nauseating decision to be pro-America. That's like being pro-devil! Please, can anybody tell me, what can we do to bring evil America down? America is the proverbial stick-in-the-eye to the despotic and godless soveriegn regimes of the world who have every right to do to their people whatever they want. IT'S NONE OF AMERICA's BUSINESS DAMN IT! And we need to stop with all of he bogus aid packages to the earthquake-stricken, or the tsunami-stricken, or the hunger afflicted third-world countries. Those bogus efforts are surely just fronts to dominate those countries with our evil intentions. I guarentee that somehow, America is blocking the Russians, and the Chinese, or the Arabs from sponsering the poor, less fortunate children in this country, so that they will look less generous than those smart-alec Americans. Trust me, there's always some alterior motive to this evil country. May America burn in hell for it's unrelenting evil intentions. How clever America is. Even when we invent the medicines and the technologies, or export the foodstuffs that save millions of lives abroad, there are ALWAYS ulterior motives, DAMMIT! World-wide domination, I'm sure! Sick bastards!
- gruanuts, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Upiddy Ammies --- 2-bit lying scumbag UniStaters! Always brewing trouble in the name of protecting their citizen's interests and the less fortunate around the world! Who died and made us our brother's keeper?????!!!?? America--- STOP WITH ALL THE DISINGENUOUS GRACIOUSNESS AND GENEROSITY ALREADY! The world can get along without you! GET YOUR NOSE OUTTA VLADAMIR PUTIN'S MILITARY PLANS. He'll do alot more good than you, you know. Ask yourself --- does he even bother with disengenous, dishonest generosity toward his neighbors? Course not dammit, he's above that! Would he lie when he says that he's just trying to protect the Ossetians? A LIAR? Hell, next you'll accuse him of being an Ammie, a UniStater! He would never be so low....
- marrrkr, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Anyone with a little historic perspective can see that expanding dictatorships like putin-med are significant impediments to world peace. Yes, American challenges to aggressive oppressive regimes are not consistent enough and are often catalyzed by the economy of oil, but it is the voice and muscle of freedom.
World peace - a phenomenon that the Left will never really comprehend or achieve, is when the majority of people covet and understand what freedom really is. (personal liberties, economic, religious, and expressive) It will never be achieved by cowards who buckle to tyrants and terrorists so that they can be nice guys who speak in nuances. It will be acieved by freedom loving capitalist humanitarian doers who know how to act on principle.
He's crass and fed up, but I like Justin. - gruanuts, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Upiddy Ammies --- 2-bit lying scumbag UniStaters! Know what your problem is buddy? You are obviously one of those nut-cases who tries to solve problems using your head and common sense and crap like that. Don't you understand - that way of thinking has totally gone out of style. And do you know WHY that way of thinking/communicating has gone out of style? Well, lemme ask you this --- when is the last time your way of thinking, analizing real-world evidence, perhaps even examining the occurrance of repeating historical events, whatever, when is the last time that using that out-dated method reasoning has ever pursuaded us lefties to let go of our insistance that this country SUCKS and BLOWS at the same time? How can you Neo-cons cling to such dogmatic intellectual principles while the rest of us JUST SIMPLY WANT CHANGE! Hell, even if it is change for the sake of change. You and your boring ways of thinking are on their way out. Our Lefty, touchy, feely, kumbaya, hate-America ways are taking over, so I suggest you fasten your seatbelt, cuz you and yours are going to be in for the ride of your lives!- JustinCredabull, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Besides all that, so what if Georgia, Poland, Tiawan are over-run by Russia/China? So what if Israel is destroyed? Do you honestly think these regimes would continue with aggression after they've accomplished these goals? If you think that then you really must be falling for the typical evil American propaganda! Let me tell you what you really are since you wont say so yourself --- one of those Purple-Mountain, UniState lovers! You flaming Ammie! Why don't you just go ahead and keep living in that hateful, world-destroying, deceitful country of yours!
- snowman162000, on 08/19/2008, -2/+0Doxocopa: "Who shot first?"
If you would read ALL the reports, it was the Ossetian separatists who fired into the rest of Georgia, first. Georgia was responding to that provocation. Good thing for the Ossetians that the Soviets... sorry, Russians... had an armored division with full logistics and air cover, waiting right on the border, to come to the rescue.
Funny thing... if the Ossetians are clamoring for an independent nation, why are not the people in North Ossetia demanding separation from the Soviet Union... sorry, Russia? - Cwolf267, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2I just enlisted in the Marines (Going to basic in February), and I'm happy to be able to serve my country. However, I'm scared to think I signed up for what's essentially world police duty. Let foreign people kill other foreign people as long as they don't mess with the states. We should be giving out more nutritional and monetary aid to struggling countries, not putting our nose into minor conflicts that have nothing to do with us.
- marrrkr, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0Cwolf, Thanks for registering - Hopefully you will only ever be involved in the righteous missions to help the innocent. As decent world citizens, we should speak up when other people are oppressed and have the capability to take action. Dictators and criminals will always see what they can get away with. It takes strength to be decent and to stand up when evil takes place.
My family is 50% refugee stock and we exist now because countries like the USA intervened. That's why I support administrative and electoral choices that promote freedom. Again, thank-you for that brave and honorable commitment. Pacifists and isolationists usually don't realize that people like you and me disdain hostile intervention as much as them. But you might ask yourself, what is worth fighting for in this world? (and yes - I know that there will be numerous snits about oil and corrupt business...

- allowners, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2Rice and the rest of the administration are war criminals intent on expanding their criminal enterprise. Since the US legislative and judicial branches are complicit, it falls to the Europeans to bring them to justice before they do any more harm.
