- aresef, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Jesus didn't lie to his shareholders. Martin Luther King sure as hell didn't fight for equality for rich white men.
- bitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22maybe he actually meant "Judas"
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23He also was compared to a black man who was lynched... my jaw dropped!... all that was missing was a comparison to Paul Revere and Rosa Parks...
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24This is quite tasteless, I'm only digging it because people should know about such things.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Check the coffin plz.
- oGMo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I thought the idea was to "dig stuff up" that should be brought to people's attention, not an "I dig it" popularity contest. And I entirely agree, this is utterly tasteless. I suppose this guy feels history will vindicate Hitler, too.
Now having tripped the Godwin effect, I'll be off. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18My only disappointment in this man's death is that it'll be more difficult to return the money he stole back to the people it belongs to. Otherwise all I can say is good riddance.
- Nightfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Yea, the guy was a crook. Plain and simple. However, at the funeral, good things are always mentioned. I think this guy went a little too extreme though when he compared him to Jesus and Dr. King. I think that is pretty outlandish if you ask me.
Hey, maybe this guy will do my sermon when I die. He can compare me to other great goaltenders in the game of hockey like Terry Sawchuck or Patrick Roy....ok....maybe not Roy. ;) - NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10They will no doubt put a fence around his grave so that people won't piss on it.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13What a dumbass. But did you really expect them to insult the guy at his funeral. They always say nice things.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This reverend obviously never read Speaker for the Dead.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You don't have to insult someone to tell the truth. And comparing someone who bilked hundreds and thousands of people out of billions of dollars to Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesus is just wrong, regardless of the intent or circumstances.
Funerals are for the living, not the dead. It's okay to focus on the positive aspects of someones life and the common experience of grief, even if they were a dirtbag. But comparing a convicted felon to Jesus is disingenuous religion at best and pandering at worst. What about the thousands of lives ruined by Ken Lay's conduct? The legion of retirees with nothing? How much are broken lives going for these days?
And you called the other poster a dumbass. - KiSA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Given enough money, you can make most men do, or in this case say, anything.
The reverend probably just asked for too much money or else Lay would have been compared to God. - darthsuo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It was so improbable I actually though Jesus was at the funeral. Well, it would have made for a better story . . .
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9People always say nice things about dead people especially at their funerals. Plus he may have been a great person in other aspect of his life. (he clearly was not a good person in his professional life)
@oGMo
pls don't compare Lay to Hitler - TimothyFrisby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ender Wiggins should've given his eulogy. :P
- Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The reverent is not just a dumb ass. He also insulted Christians and civil rights believers and leaders in some ways. To equate a crook who helped ruin the life of many people to two revered leaders/teachers is an insult.
- Silencer7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, except no one got to shoot him, flay him, stab him or nail him to a cross.
...Though I wouldn't be surprised if he "miraculously" rose from the dead, on some tropical island... - WorldBuilder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Given enough money, you can make most men do, or in this case say, anything.

Make your contribution and you'll get the better seat... - icurnvs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'll bet 10 bucks that not more than 5 people who read this comment will know who Ender Wiggins is :)
- MrJiggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How will history "vindicate" the thousands who've been wronged by Enron?
Who paid for the service, and why didn't it instead go to the shareholders whose entire lives were wiped out by these men)?
It's almost enough for an atheist to want to believe in hell... - ronk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3AFAIK, the worst of the team was Skilling.. Lay just went along for the ride.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People like Ken Lay make my blood boil.
I just learned in a class today that white-collar crime in the US costs 8 times more than all the common thefts combined per year. - RSkwiat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope his widow has to pay for all the lives that man screwed. Hope he enjoys burning
- alanspach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1reverends are supposed to be forgiving
- BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is an amazing scientific discovery. Apparently, this holy man has discovered an alternate universe populated by evil twins. Surely that's what he was referring to: Evil MLK and Evil Jesus.
GASP! EVIL LINCOLN! (name that pop-culture reference) - CAJason80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And later, the reverend continued his endless blithering, comparing Starship's "We Built This City" to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven", and then proceeding to call Ryan Leaf "the next John Elway".
- meghdad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I can say is.....WTF???
- TacitusBen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, like Jesus, due to abatement laws, his fatal heart attack absolves him of his sins.
- mickbw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cheato Lay gets a nice send off.
What seems to be forgotten in this whole story is:
Bush attends the funeral of a convicted criminal who swindled millions from his share holders.
Yet, he hasn't attended a single funeral for an American serviceman who died in Iraq. - Maraklov, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0REAL HOLOGRAPHIC SIMULATED EVIL LINCOLN IS BACK!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Before: The Reverend Dr. Bill Lawson compared Lay with civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesus Christ, and said his name would eventually be cleared.
After: The Reverend Dr. Bill Lawson compared Lay with civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesus Christ, and said his name would eventually be cleared. - WorldBuilder, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5If by saying he was like MLK and Jesus he meant the MLK & Jesus were corrupt pieces of *****, then yeah... He was right on.
- nwshc, on 10/12/2007, -32/+4Another black man rambling. Pay no attention, digg users.
