"AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals”
"God has removed it's veil of protection from America in no small part, because of the feminists and the gays"
"“The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country”
“If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being” - Bhima, on 10/11/2007, -94/+669It's wrong to speak ill of the dead.
So I have little to say.
I suppose the world is a better place now than it was. - damndj, on 10/11/2007, -171/+721I hope it's not too hot where he's at right now.
Oh wait. I do.
Good riddance you ***** whore. I hope you're burning in a place you've feared in your life. - Emaze, on 10/11/2007, -135/+632***** Jerry Falwell, too bad he didn't die years earlier. Enjoy your time in hell, you racist, homophobic *****. Hopefully someone runs a train on your corpse.
- APHughes, on 10/11/2007, -57/+530I hate to say this but I'm Conservative and he scared me
- mobbo, on 10/11/2007, -65/+464In other news: hell just got a little fatter.
- Xageroth, on 10/11/2007, -43/+341It's only wrong to murder someone.
It's not wrong to be a little happy when scumbags who exploit religion to mask their hatred finally pass on.
Good riddance. - totallyAMAZING, on 10/11/2007, -36/+289Jerry Falwell finally did something for the people!!!
- CogitatorX, on 10/11/2007, -63/+289@ldjarmin
screw you, Jerry and your whole Christian Taliban "community".
The world becomes a better place every time a scumbag like Falwell kicks it. - matthewmok, on 10/11/2007, -58/+280Where is spelled out that it is wrong to speak ill of the dead?
- DirkVanAss, on 10/11/2007, -28/+200I just hope he stays dead.
- badfrog, on 10/11/2007, -35/+191Tonight I shall go to Larry Flynt's Hustler Club in his remembrance.
- z00k, on 10/11/2007, -62/+213The ***** is dead. This is a gift from the FSM, Time to celebrate!
http://www.cristgaming.com/pirate.swf - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -41/+190Good.
Rot in hell, ***** *****.
I know a lot of morons will say, "Someone died, have some respect," but this man lacked respect and decency in life with the way he lied and manipulated people to get his way. Why the ***** should I respect his death?
Just like Jack Valenti. Good ***** riddance. - Echarter, on 10/11/2007, -22/+156Wasn't he the guy that blamed sins for the Katrina hurricane? If one uses this model of thinking, i wonder if his hate mongering has killed him.
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -57/+189Please people. A moment of silence is in order. For ldjarmin- he's still attending Brainwash U.
- drum_bum, on 10/11/2007, -53/+181If hell actually existed, he would truly be rotting in it. Luckily for him it doesn't.
- Otto, on 10/11/2007, -17/+137>>>"but putting religion aside anyone who knows anything about the man knows he was a genuinely good man"
*****. Everything the man ever said was racist, homophobic, bigoted nonsense. There are few things in this world that I consider to be "evil". Jerry Falwell was one of those things.
He was not a good man.
He was not a good human being.
He made the world a worse place for his presence, and I'm glad that he's gone. - APHughes, on 10/11/2007, -36/+137He had way too much influence on close minded individuals
- TheCooler72, on 10/11/2007, -18/+112Agreed. As a Christian, I think so many of his political statements were so terribly bigoted and went against the teachings of Christ. This, then, helped create the Christian Conservatism in this country which so many of you are rallying against. It's really a shame.
Go to the source. It wasn't supposed to be this way. - gak001, on 10/11/2007, -14/+104@Bhim
"It's wrong to speak ill of the dead."
Not that I'm comparing Jerry Falwell to Hitler, but I think you might be overgeneralizing here. It's socially acceptable to speak ill of the dead, or at least many of the dead. Who hasn't spoken ill of Hitler (save neo-nazis and white supremacists)? Let's not pick and choose here.
Jerry Falwell twisted the Word of God to suit his own hate-filled agenda. He gave Christians everywhere a bad name by being a hateful fundie. His words are no better than those of any other fundamentalist (ie Taliban).
Christ preached love; Falwell preached hate. May God have mercy on his soul. - Gadren, on 10/11/2007, -16/+103I'm not going to whitewash his life. He was not a good person, and he has caused enough heartache and suffering in the world. From his support for apartheid to his opposition to the civil rights movement to his declaration that 9/11 was God's punishment for abortion and liberalism, he was a sad example of a human being.
Considering he said that AIDS was God's punishment against gay people, I wonder what this was...
Let's all take a moment to look back at what he had said over the years:
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Jerry_Falwell - GoBack2Europe, on 10/11/2007, -23/+100Jerry Falwell was for from being like Jesus Christ. So are most of these religious nuts. Christ congregated with and helped/served murders, criminals, prostitutes, the ill and so forth. Screw these judgmental right-wing wackos.
- Moskie, on 10/11/2007, -13/+89***** man, maybe this was the rapture.... and we all just missed the boat?
- Amnesia10, on 10/11/2007, -12/+86And he outed poor Tinky Winky of the Tellytubbies. That is unforgivable.
- KrisStrong, on 04/29/2009, -19/+90Teletubbies Rejoice! Teletubbies Rejoice!
- dirtyknobs, on 10/11/2007, -26/+9673 years too late.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -14/+83Why should his death change our feelings towards him?
- CraigJ, on 10/11/2007, -12/+75No mouth-to-mouth I hope, that would have been gay.
- SOAB, on 10/11/2007, -30/+93No loss. ;-)
- legendxx, on 10/11/2007, -14/+75objective list of his quotes
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/j/jerry_falwell.html - ihavebeenseen, on 10/11/2007, -41/+102Be sure and tell Saddam I said what's up
- anonatron, on 10/11/2007, -11/+70Now if we can get rid of Fred Phelps, the sun would shine just a little brighter tomorrow.
- Kevmo68, on 10/11/2007, -20/+72*****, his money was besmirched to the "people" he chose to have dealings with, Jerry Falwell ministries take in about $200 million a year in revenues, I would bet less than 10% went to "CHARITIES"
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -11/+62@Echarter (#6695405)
He went further than that, he actually claimed gays, abortionists, feminists, and secularists 'helped it happen' - staxofmax, on 10/11/2007, -56/+105Why do the good always die so young?
- aqualdr, on 10/11/2007, -11/+59I bet he is pissed he missed the rapture. He always said it would be in his lifetime
- Tiak, on 10/11/2007, -17/+63Okay, let's see, reasons for being polite and not criticising him after his death:
People liked him, and they wouldn't appreciate insults to the man this soon after he died.
-Hitler had even more people that liked him... And yet no one said it wasn't cool to criticize him after his death... I really don't see why people should suddenly be nice to a guy simply because other people are sad that he's gone...
It is morally wrong to criticize the dead:
-There's a bit of a taboo, yes, because they can't defend themselves, but it's hardly wrong. I don't think there's any major belief system that exhibits any way this would harm said dead person in an afterlife, and I see no reason a pattern that doesn't anymore exist diserves respect, let alone more respect than they would've received in life.
It's bigoted and intolerant to attack a dead guy (or to attack homophobes, I'm not quite sure what you guys are trying to imply).
-As we aren't being disrespectful to the other 147,000 people that died in the last 24 hours (if we're consistant with the average), I'll respond as if it's the second one, which almost makes sense... Discouraging intolerance isn't an effort not to keep anyone from hating anyone, it's an effort to keep anyone from hating anyone on superficial criteria which don't necisarily reflect the individual... Hating those who have exposed views that one thinks are disgusting is not intollerance.
Reasons to criticize him.
-He was polarizing people to religious extremism or not and ultimately doing harm to the country, discussing this could help heal wounds.
-He was a douche.
The pros outweigh the cons. - matthewmok, on 10/11/2007, -17/+63He died because he never learned the principle of moderation and about the sin of gluttony. Did you people see how fat he was?
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -12/+58Add me to your blocklist too please.
- Salviati, on 10/11/2007, -13/+58Coincidence? I think not! : http://farm1.static.flickr.com/205/499759710_cc47b0eccd.jpg?v=0
- abid786, on 10/11/2007, -9/+53@legendxx
He said "There's been a concerted effort to steal Christmas."
I thought that it was already stolen from a pagan tradition, no? - AzBats, on 10/11/2007, -11/+55Will the Eastboro church crowd go and protest?
- danielrh9, on 10/11/2007, -14/+57Someone should leave purple telletubbies on his grave.
- Otto, on 10/11/2007, -8/+51>>>"He had views you disagree with, but he would never say these things about others, and yet you all say these things about him, esteeming yourselves to be better than he?"
False. He *did* say similar things about others, on multiple occasions. - carve, on 10/11/2007, -18/+60He will be missed. Just not by me.
- morel42, on 10/11/2007, -14/+56@stealthboy
The biggest difference between most liberals and this guy is:
We hate him for what he did..
He hated people for what they ARE. - merper, on 10/11/2007, -9/+47You don't have to kill or rape to be a blight on the planet. Words and ideas are far far more dangerous than that. Unless I'm mistaken, Hitler(Goodwin's law eh) never personally killed a person. That didn't stop him from being one of the vilest human beings that ever existed. Now Falwell is no Hitler, but the ideas he spread weren't much less disgusting. Who knows - if the US had ever been in such a decimated state as Germany after the first world war, maybe those ideas would have lead the idiots who hang on his word to take this country to a dark dark place. So no, if that's the kind of junk I'd be perpetrating I don't want 1/Googolth the influence that this prick had.
- myklee, on 10/11/2007, -9/+45Eff that. You can be genuinely good in private, but his life was anything but private. His public opinions dictated who he was - a racist bigot.
- nuclearpenguins, on 10/11/2007, -25/+61Good riddance.
