- zoombusa, on 10/12/2007, -15/+372"Two students were involved in inappropriate conduct in a lab class last semester. We have investigated the matter and taken appropriate action. The school corporation considers the matter closed and will have no further comment."
Associate Superintendent Jeff Swensson told Eyewitness News off camera the teacher didn't know what was going on because another student acted as a "look-out." But once the teacher discovered the behavior, immediate action was taken. Swensson says the students involved were recommended for expulsion. But he did not say whether the board followed that recommendation.
Looks like they handled the issue. Don't see what the big deal is now? Does everything have to be published in the news? Can't some things be dealt with and be over? The school did nothing wrong. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -30/+309What i find weirdest is that they recommended the kids for expulsion.... Isn't school supposed to be there to help kids get a good start on life? What good would expelling those students do? Suspend them, separate them, discipline them, give 'em some therapy... but dont expell them. That's just giving up and saying "let's just add another pair of teenage, dropout parents to the world."
- FrogMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+281All I got out of shop class was a poorly sanded keychain. :/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+278You lost out, this kid got finely waxed wood.
- nightsweat, on 10/12/2007, -11/+269@jmontes -
That ain't "teenagers". Sixth graders are 11. - waysa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+220Just another example of why you shouldn't screw around in shop class.
- jmontes, on 10/12/2007, -19/+188Teenagers will have sex outside of their bedrooms at home? Thanks, now all parents can be on the lookout.
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -3/+165They were with the 7th graders.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+173Niiiice.
- Sparkster185, on 10/12/2007, -4/+146Where were all these girls who put out in 6th grade when I was a kid?
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+127In other news, the school has had to hire two new shop teachers to keep up with demand for the class.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+127"Stop screwing around, y'all screw 'round to much!"
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -12/+125Cover up what? So they didnt tell everyone in the world, why should they?
- adidax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+94At least they were supervised.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+96that's just plain creepy
- iamshades, on 10/12/2007, -3/+84yeah, they should wait until atleast 9th grade to have sex in school.
- lokai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+75Yes, this sort of thing happens in middle schools. Children are starting earlier these days. My area has had some problems with middle school-aged students performing various sex acts on one another, drug and alcohol use, violence, and other sketchy behavior. I have a strong feeling that these kids get up to even worse things in their own homes, right behind their parents' backs or, more likely, when their parents leave them home alone for any period of time. If these children are getting into these sorts of situations it is because they are choosing to do so on their own. Parents will rise up against the school system when they ought to be asking themselves what they are doing at home, as parents, to help stop this sort of thing.
- growlzor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+76I don't know why but shop class always gave me wood, and then I sculpted it into a racecar!
- np374, on 10/12/2007, -2/+70How come it seems like everyone is getting lucky but me?
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+65I love how the headline says the teacher was present... when the teacher wasn't present.
- btgoss, on 10/12/2007, -7/+67I lived through the 80's and most were not having sex at age 11, no matter what we told our friends...
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -7/+65Starting earlier these days? This has been happening for a long, long time.
- kevlarcupid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Well said, Zoom. It's ridiculous that parents are simultainiously blaming schools for not doing enough to raise their kids for them, but in a situation like this, we're supposed to be outraged that the school took care of it? No. Good job to the teacher, and good job to the school board. They should stick up for themselves.
Add to that, the article did say that there were other kids acting as lookouts. Which implies that the kids weren't exactly in plain sight. It's pointless to have a lookout if the person you're hiding from can clearly see you. "Johnny, Susan? Why are you in the same seat? Oh! Carry on." I doubt it. - BlindingEdge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48my shop class was all guys
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44It might be comforting to think teenagers having sex is some brand new phenomenon, invented circa 2005, but it's really nothing new. I remember several occasions of kids having sexual contact during class when I was in middle school 20 years ago. 13-year olds came to school drunk and got high in the bathrooms. And it was a relatively "good" school.
- KingVegas702, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44Shop class? i thought all the REAL action was in pe behind the bleechers?
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4711-13 years or so.
EDIT: I really shoulda known better than to think nobody else would answer. - Tyorant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43What sort of age are sixth graders?
Sorry, i'm British and i'm not entirely sure how the school 'yearing' system goes in American schools... - xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44I agree. Stuff like this happens in schools all of the time. Usually, the teachers never find out. Tell me you've not known of or heard of someone having sex at school personally. If not, you went to a really lame school. 6th grade is a little young. I couldn't imagine my little cousin in 6th grade getting some. He still watches spongebob.
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38I was just about to mention this. It seems like people totally forget being a kid once they become adults and suddenly everything is shocking to them. This kind of stuff wasn't out of the ordinary when I was in 6th grade. Kids were trying sex, pot, and alcohol for the first time.
Sure, a lot of people wait for college and are not exposed to this stuff because of their friends (or lack therof) and protective parents, but there are many early starters. It has always been this way. - XBackstabberX, on 10/12/2007, -7/+42way to be a pedophile
- Sparkster185, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37@jayayeem : Good point, but I find it very hard to believe that a bunch of 6th graders would sit around and watch gay sex, male or female.
Well, maybe the females. - hayleysongbird, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35So that substitute teacher who didn't know how to turn off the porn-pop ups on the computer gets how many years in jail?
- cracker42, on 10/12/2007, -8/+40Wooooo sensationalism!
- mickeyknoxxx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36i'm so glad people are saying what I was thinking. The matter was resoolved. i commend the school for doing such a good job of not feeding into the prying deathj grip of the media. I think should just leave well enough alone.
kids are kids. They experiment. - Anthem26, on 10/12/2007, -15/+46students having sex while the teacher was watching? hmm...i always thought it was the other way around.
- perogi21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32@BlindingEdge
I'm sure that didn't stop you... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+40Because you touch yourself at night.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+41Good Lord! I barely even knew what sex was when I was in sixth grade! That's sick man, they're only 11 years old!
- kuzotz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31I knew a sixth grader that was pregnant, and she was on her 2nd pregnancy!!!
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32Man, I seriously went to the wrong school.
- scjones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25masturbaiting is for fishermen.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29I got a blowjob in the back of the school bus a couple times...but full-blown sex in the middle of *class*? Nuh uh.
- kaplanfx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26I can't believe I got through a relatively lengthy first thread on this particular topic without seeing the obligatory "Pics or it didn't happen" comment. (Yes I realize they are 6th graders, I'm just surprised and impressed by my fellow diggers restraint)
-Kap - AaronTyler, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3212 to 13 years old
- sputza, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Because you spend your days and nights on Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21The mere appearence of my old shop teacher, a blown up Okinawa veteran, was quite enough to stifle even the strongest sexual urges.
Oh.. and back then, there were only guys in shop class. - Tyorant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Heh, thanks everyone.
That is seriously crazy, even by OUR standards! - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17"I was told it was a game the students had going to see who could get the most while at school."
A game? That's pretty much the collective male life-story. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -11/+28I don't know why this is so unbelievable: They *are* 6th graders. It's not like the kid needs a lot of time to finish.
