- mraymond80, on 04/02/2009, -1/+268I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Boston.com has the best photo galleries around...
- jaymulder, on 04/01/2009, -5/+238Wonderful pictures. Good to see some pictures of Canadian and British soldiers in the mix.
- strfiter, on 04/02/2009, -1/+191It's weird to think that I'll be right there in 2 weeks.
Hmm.... Reality Check...... - diggeratwork, on 04/02/2009, -1/+130Boston.com's picture essays are always so easy to look at:
1. No clicking required. Just scroll
2. Pictures takes the entire width of the browser and no horizontal scrolling required.
3. Text is not too long or too short. The description is right below the picture.
Boston.com FTW! - inactive, on 04/02/2009, -24/+132The new MrBabyMan Icon looks like it is performing a goatse.
- GrmReaper, on 04/02/2009, -2/+99Is it your first tour there? I just got back a few months ago.
- strfiter, on 04/02/2009, -3/+72Second, but the first one was too pointless (to Kuwait), so I don't even count it as a real deployment.
This time I'm going with the 101st Airborne, and I'm looking forward to it very much. 15 months in an unfamiliar place, again.
Haha!
BRING IT ON TALIBAN. - inactive, on 04/02/2009, -3/+68Good luck and be safe!
- kplo, on 04/02/2009, -1/+64I love the Big Picture. Just great stuff, especially this time.
- julian02392, on 04/02/2009, -3/+64Are you going to state that on every MrBabyMan submitted article?
- RabidSkwirl, on 04/02/2009, -2/+53I want that idiot Greg Gutfeld from Fox News to look at these pictures and maybe then he will realize why all of Canada hates his guts!!!!!
- adremali, on 04/02/2009, -0/+50Boston.com always has the best pictures.
- Polycarp87, on 04/02/2009, -1/+4915 months is a long time, I wish you the best over there.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -2/+45Someone should send this link to Greg Gutfeld of Red Eye on FOX. Since he can't read, maybe the pictures will give him some greater understanding of the Afghan mission.
- JCEEZ, on 04/02/2009, -1/+44Stay safe man. My old room mate just got back about a month ago.
- opakanopa, on 04/02/2009, -5/+47Dugg because my older brother is in that marine battalion thats pictured quite a few times. Thought maybe I'd get lucky and see him, but no such luck.
- idc5, on 04/02/2009, -10/+51So the U.S. Army pays off poppy farmers for damaged opium fields, but in the U.S. a farmer grower this stuff would go to prison for several years?
- GrmReaper, on 04/02/2009, -4/+41It was an interesting experience last time I was there, and now I prepare to go back next fall. When are we gonna learn that no matter how many soldiers we send from the US and other countries...it's not going to change. Over 60% of the country is illiterate, hence the reason the extremists can exploit the locals. They 'preach' to them that the Koran/Allah is saying that outsiders are the enemy and that they must give their lives for the glory of killing a soldier in a Jihad....and what...for 77 virgins?
I did meet genuinely good people there, people who want to live in peace and not fear. Unfortunately they are few and far between. On the flip side though, some Afghan's are working with the Taliban due to poverty. They have no other way to feed their families, so they turn to the only opportunity available. How do we (as soldiers) fight this?
If people are telling you that the government is going to end this soon and bring the soldiers home....they're wrong. The FOB I was at in particular has a 17 year plan of development and expansion... - Quicksilver4648, on 04/02/2009, -3/+39They probably have to pay the locals in order to gain their support. If they treated farmers and local villagers will little to no respect then the Taliban would grow in numbers. Besides, they are probably limited to what they can grow. If they stopped growing opium, which probably pays quite well over there, based on our morals then they would have to grow a less profitable crop.
- Pimptastic, on 04/02/2009, -0/+35Article 5 of the NATO treaty made them go.
- crit1caL, on 04/02/2009, -0/+32Always great sets from boston.com!
- iJessicaRabbit, on 04/02/2009, -1/+33Those photographers are awesome at catching emotion.
- ultraJesus, on 04/02/2009, -0/+30That Canadian guy has an awesome beard. I didn't think you were allowed to have them in the army.
- Frostman3D, on 04/02/2009, -0/+29That is some brutal looking terrain.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -3/+31wow pic#16, the afghan police looks so under equipped.
- repjackson, on 04/02/2009, -3/+27congrats? who would want to go there?
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+23You piss off the farmers, and the local population, then you'll find yourself turning a difficult war into an impossible one.
- pathouston22, on 04/02/2009, -0/+23Pic #5, the Raven airplane, to land they simply crash into the ground, break apart, the soldier snaps it back together, then it flies again!
The more you know. - jamdogg, on 04/02/2009, -1/+22Pic# 13 - "Hellooo, Osamaaaaa. You in there?"
- doug209, on 04/02/2009, -2/+23Let me get this straight, they're actively guarding the poppy fields, Afghanistan has had record crops, more heroine than ever is coming out of there, and we still fail to make the connection between the U.S. government and drug dealing.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. - drmangrum, on 04/02/2009, -1/+21No, the truly infuriating thing is how we pay to legally import opium to be manufactured into opium based pain killers such as morphine and codeine.
- drmangrum, on 04/02/2009, -2/+22The term is 'reneged' If that was a racial jab, you're a ***** putz.
- Jektal, on 04/02/2009, -1/+20The men end up fighting a lot more often than women do. The people who end up fighting end up dieing much more often than those that don't fight.
- kingofinternet, on 04/02/2009, -0/+19why i love boston.com picture sets:
1. not slideshows
2. 10x7 size
3. beautiful content - LBCdude, on 04/02/2009, -0/+19Standards become a little more lacks when you live out of the back of a LAV for months on end
- strfiter, on 04/02/2009, -0/+18Or, you could fly it low enough that one of us catch it, like we were taught to do at UAV school, haha.
- falser, on 04/02/2009, -0/+18It said he's Canadian. That means it's a hockey playoff beard.
- Matsky, on 04/02/2009, -0/+17Too bad they didn't get any of the Aussies
- 9bpm9, on 04/02/2009, -1/+17That dudes beard in picture #8 is luscious.
- paterade724, on 04/02/2009, -4/+19For once I can thank MrBabyMan. These were the first pictures I actually enjoyed that you have uploaded.
- bruleboy, on 04/02/2009, -2/+17my friend who is in the Marines cant wait to go and serve his Country. some people really do want to go.
- malechite, on 04/02/2009, -1/+16This pictures are all pretty much amazing, really well taken, capture emotion really well, and show many different sides of whats happening...
#25 made me tear up a little bit... - inactive, on 04/02/2009, -0/+15These are some great pictures that really bring to life what it's like over there. I hadn't seen really good pictures of the landscape. No wonder the military is having a hard time over there.
- booyahbitch, on 04/02/2009, -1/+16California...Arizona...New Mexico, etc.
- malechite, on 04/02/2009, -0/+15I was thinking that too.
Hehe....he also reminded me of a Hoth Rebel Trooper, only on uh... Tatooine instead. - purag66, on 05/13/2009, -0/+15I think comparing any police officer to a Marine is slightly unfair.
- distressless, on 04/02/2009, -2/+16I used to look for my friend Mark. Mark came back just fine. I hope the same for your brother.
- GeorgeStone2, on 04/02/2009, -1/+15Dugg for Gurkhas.
