- anarcurt, on 08/09/2008, -1/+5If knowing the law of the land and holding the po responsible for illegal types of policing makes me a terrorist then call me Osama.
- notanidiot, on 08/09/2008, -0/+15I saw this years ago on Infowars.com. Here's the rub: Alot of people who invoke the Constitution don't really know what they are talking about. Just because you mention the Constitution doesn't mean you are right about it. Just like people who take the Bible out of context, there are some who attempt to pervert the Constitution to their own selfish motives, and that I have no respect for.
On the other hand, mentioning the Constitution doesn't make you a terrorist, so this document, if real, is completely ***** up. - JekJob, on 08/09/2008, -0/+8"Left-Wing Terrorists: Political motivation usually Marxist/Leninist philosophy"
That's *****. Are they doing Communist witch hunts again?
Anyone else notice that the Right-Wingers are just "extremists" but the Left-Wingers are "terrorists"?- Ymeg, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Well, it is in a terrorist pamphlet.
Also, left wing extremist usually follow that philosophy. - oMeSSiaHo, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1If anything it is showing that left wingers are not as much of a threat. Right Wing extremists are dangerous while left wing extremists are not. They didnt need to list the right wingers as terrorists because they have already carried out terror attacks (Oklahoma City bombing, abortion clinic bombings). The right wingers are more prone to violence then the left wingers.
I guess its a matter of how you read it.
- Ymeg, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Well, it is in a terrorist pamphlet.

- diggenerate, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3It doesn't matter what state you live in, it is in the Constitution. You only have to identify yourself if you are pulled over or if you entering a government facility of some kind. A police officer can't just walk up to you and demand that you identify yourself. Well they can do that, except you do not have to respond, in fact you never have to say anything to the police, no matter the situation.

- AeroMerde, on 08/10/2008, -6/+1People who claim to be "defenders" of the Constitution against the government and/or UN are radical people and some of them are part of violent movements.
Driving isn't a right, and if you're using false plates, don't have a license, refusing to identify yourself, and referencing the Constitution for the cop's benefit, you are already breaking the law.
As for the rest of the pamphlet, there are people who are eco-terrorists (burning housing developments, spiking trees), anti-abortion terrorists, and many other radicalized people who use violence to achieve a political goal. They aren't common at all, but they are out there. It's the FBI's job to get them.
The only mistake the FBI made in writing this is that they assumed the reader had common sense and could read comprehensibly, which was too much for the article's submitter and most of the commenters above.- AchaIemoipas, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1"don't have a license"
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
"refusing to identify yourself"
You're not required to identify yourself unless you're under arrest. Otherwise anonymous complaints would be impossible.
"It's the FBI's job to get them"
Pamphlet says "Groups of individuals engaging in para-military training".
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Referencing the constitution doesn't make you a terrorist. It makes you a patriot and an educated citizen. Protecting your rights is an obligation, not a right or a priviledge.
- AchaIemoipas, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1"don't have a license"
- Tangaroa, on 08/10/2008, -2/+1The last time this flyer got floated around the Internet, I heard that it was a draft copy that had been rejected by that FBI office's superiors for for the exact same reasons that everyone here is concerned about (criminalizing knowing your rights, etc). Not that I have any knowledge of it, that's just what I heard.
- Phatlip012, on 08/10/2008, -6/+2They're both in a pamphlet for suspected terrorists *****. Quit reading into it so much.
- Morchades, on 08/10/2008, -4/+1Groups that wish to take down the government and replace it with a theocracy style themselves as "Defenders of the Constitution" as they plan to destroy it, and tend to be ultra-nationalistic to compensate for not understanding the actual ideals of the country. I'm glad the FBI recognizes this.
And they're right, the Left-wing extremists tend to be Marxist. That's a lefty as you get, just as the right-wing extremists tend to be religiously motivated or racially-based hate groups. This is a balanced pamphlett advising people to be on the lookout for extremism in all forms.- siszam, on 08/10/2008, -1/+1It is not illegal to be a Marxist or a Socialist. Being a Marxist does not make you a terrorist. The government can't dictate your beliefs or political association.
- Morchades, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2It's not illegal to be in a hate group either, the government doesn't dictate that. But it's a flag -- these are people who think in the extreme. Keep an eye out.

Apparently it was made by the Arizona FBI. And it's real, in case anyone was doubting that (like me).
Also, keep in mind that it was released immediately after the 9/11 attacks. Maybe they've toned things down a little since then? - daaaveg, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1"cyber penetration" hahaha
- sunshinelife, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5Deeply deeply troubling.

- oMeSSiaHo, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Notice how defenders is in quotation marks? I think that is referencing people like Timothy McVeigh who are "Super Patriots", which is also listed. As for the people who quote the Constitution, that is pretty ***** up.
This is also pretty old and I would assume has been revised to done away with. - SomeHobo, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2I guess from now on I'll have to be weary of lone individuals as well as people in groups.

A disturbing flyer puportedly authored by the FBI's Phoenix anti-terrorism
task force has been circulating in the conservative community. The flyer
instructs the reader to report as a possible terrorist anyone who asks why
they were stopped by police or anyone who dares to defend "the U.S.
Constitution against federal [sic] government." See it for yourself:
http://www.keepandbeararms.com/images/FBI-MCSOTerr ...
http://www.keepandbeararms.com/images/FBI-MCSOTerr ...
So I gave the FBI field office a call. FBI spokesman Ed Hall confirmed the
flyer was produced by the joint anti-terrorism task force in Phoenix. But
he said it dealt with domestic terrorism: "That flyer was put out two years
ago. Someone picked it up, and put it on the Internet like it was put out
this week."
Hall admitted the section that said anyone spotting a defender of the U.S.
Constitution "should call the Joint Terrorism Task Force" was perhaps a
tiny bit ill-advised. "It could have been a bit better foundation worded
saying you're not a right-wing extremist if you defend the Constitution...
or if you ask a police officer why they're stopping you. There's some
misinterpretation there."
He added: "Not that a person who defends the Constitution is a criminal or
terrorist, or a person who askes you, 'Why did you stop me' may be a
terrorist, but certain things, I don't want to use the word common, certain
characteristics that these people who were legitimately investigated
reflect it."
