- Winkleman, on 06/16/2009, -0/+36Good, I hope they continue to protest and let their voice be heard.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+9KEEP PROTESTING.
What do the protesters want? They want a new election.
Not a "recount" which they will used as a ruse to wait out the protests.
"Mr Mousavi was also supported by another two-term former president, the reformist Mohammad Khatami, who withdrew his own candidacy in Mr Mousavi's favour and is now also calling for the vote to be cancelled and re-run."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8101841.stm - noupsell, on 06/16/2009, -0/+8What I'd like to know is why Reuters changed my original link: "Protesters plan more mass rallies in Iran"
http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSEVA1434 ...
and altered it [after the fact] to link to this Headline: "Iran rules out annulment, Tehran crowds gather"
http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSEVA1434 ...
when they are clearly continuing to run the first headline
***** you reuters for your chicanery... last time i digg one of your stories - EddiePotato, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6It's really only ever for one reason: the people in power love their power.
- noupsell, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6There fixed: I resub'd it with the correct link. Plz bury this one that was changed by Reuters after the fact to drive traffic to their lead story and digg this one that hasn't been manipulated (yet) by Reuters: http://digg.com/world_news/Protesters_plan_more_ma ...
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -1/+5And Iran, Iran so far away....
And I couldn't get away - slangmann, on 06/16/2009, -1/+5ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
- EddiePotato, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4Trolls need to stop trolling.
- Recluse84, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3So promoting the destruction and hatred of other people is what it takes to be the best president of the world and history?
- noupsell, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3So if you click on the main digg link it sends you to a completely different story? Tell me is that actually ethical? Maybe that can help set some new precedent here where we can sub a link to 'squirrel water skiing' and end up covering 'Paris Hilton on a shoe shopping in Beverly Hills'
- zyklon, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4I just hope they get their way. Governments are usually really stubborn about these things for one reason or another.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Keep it up!
- Arghblarg, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2As I understand it, *any* Iranian president elected is still subservient to the Ayatollah, so unfortunately it'll do little to change the underlying power structure in Iran. But good on the Iranian people for at least protesting an obviously rigged election, for what the change would have been worth.
- SpinningHead, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2So far the Iranian people have been bombarding foreign agencies like the BBC with photos and videos. The internet makes it very difficult to insulate the country from scrutiny.
- noupsell, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2it... it... oh noes
- kgbpimp, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2But a nice, long civil war can keep them occupied for years, like the Iraq/Iran war.
- Barackalypse, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2"But authorities banned another opposition rally on Tuesday"
Are you going to let them tell you what you can and can't do?
"Mousavi urged his supporters to stay away from the square "to protect lives" and avoid confrontation with security forces and Ahmadinejad backers. They appeared to have heeded his call."
Yup, it looks like you will, and thus nothing will change. - noupsell, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3it's... it's... not buried yet... :o
- Ebacherville, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2doubtful, his administration said protests are low level terrorism
- CompuCated, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2For another perspective:
http://www.UnderstandingIran.com/ - CSheikh, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Actually it is not Mousavi, but the Iranian people. We do not want to hurt our countrymen. We don't need violence. Revolution can and will come in the form of peaceful protesting.
- Bartboy919, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3YOU GOTTA FIGHT
FOR YOUR RIGHT
TO GET YOUR VOTE COUNTED IN A COUNTRY MANY WOULD CONSIDER A SHAM DEMOCRACY IN WHICH ITS LEADERS ULTIMATELY HOLD NO POWER AND THE POWER HOLDERS ARE UNELECTED CLERICS
*guitar solo* - CSheikh, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Don't talk about things you don't understand.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2They should hold Ahmedenijad hostage like his ilk did to our people in '79.
- kgbpimp, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Yes, lets blame the Jews for all the problems facing Iran right now. Makes sense to me. Mousavi is probably Jewish, and is backed by secret CIA and Mossad agents. Who else would run against the brave Ahmadinejad?
- Dustin00, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1Iran's leadership is waiting for the 10 day visa's for foreign reporters to all expire.
Once nobody can see what they're doing, it's going to be Tiananmen Square all over again.
I pray for the Iranian people that I'm wrong. - kingmanic, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1It actually hit the front page. Epic Reuters win!
- EddiePotato, on 06/16/2009, -2/+3Proud graduate of the John McCain School of Comedy.
- CSheikh, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1Us Iranians are not the backwards terrorists that most Westerns think we are (excluding the criminals that all counties have).
Even those such as Khamenei do not want this to result in bloodshed or else he could have responded with a much more forceful reaction on Saturday. - irishjays, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/06/irans_dis ...
- eaghili, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1 I think the best way to objct to the injustice of Islamic republic is using GANDHI"S ' STRATEGY . Peace and non violence or " Non-REACTION".
WE GOT TO BE SMARTER THAN THEM,
If all the people who voted for Moosavo wear "WHITE CLOTHING "
( reminder of peace to themselves and to the worlds" and walk in the streets around the world while holding the feeling of PEACE and freedom in their HEARTS. THIS WAY WE ARE USING THE MOST POWERFUL FORCE IN THE UNIVERSE. Then watch the effect of this divine energy all over the world !!!!! By feeling the peace inside of us, we will bring it out to the physical.... " BE THe CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN TH E WORLD, Gandhi "
Islamic republic might be able to hide te number of votes but this way they CAN NOT hide the number of people in the streets . Gandhi's strategy is a higher conscousness way to deal with any injustic.
We had tried theBarberian way of hatred, anger, war , his did not take us anywhere.
What do yu think the governent would do if millions of peaceful people in white, walking in the streets and show their objections peacefully???? Do you thinkthey would kill the people???? If tey do they show their own true colors to te whole world !!!!
If you agree please forward this to all Iranian BLOGS , Twitters, etc....
Thank you...Elham - Bartboy919, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1I don't get the reference, Care to explain?
- yeahwhatever58, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1Making a statement coming from a free America stating what a free America believes in is not strong arming anyone. Even the French President has come out calling the election a fraud...and here our president makes a wimpering statement about being concerned and troubled over the violence. Obama's press secretary, Gibbs has said that we need not meddle in the DEBATE that is going on in Iran. What is that???!!!! DEBATE...are you kidding me, they are having a revolution going on over there. But this administration wants to play it down and refuse to speak out what should be spoken.
- bishop, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1I hope Obama grows a pair of balls and makes a statement in support of the people of Iran
- yeahwhatever58, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1He does have a pair....but they are in the hands of people like Ahmadenijad and Hugo Chavez to juggle around as they wish.
- SpinningHead, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1If the US starts trying to strong-arm again, it will serve as a distraction that the Iranian establishment can use to stir up nationalism like they did under Bush. We need to hold back and leave this to the Iranian people. They are the only ones that can make a change.
- funkywood, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1The only problem is that, even if Ahmadinejad didn't win completely legitimately he's still the more popular and will win a recount or another vote. Ahmadinejad's supporters beat Mousavi's to the square so care enough to get out themselves.
Just because we're so used to liberal society doesn't mean the majority of Iranians want and think the same things. Sadly the western, english speaking Iranians that we get to listen to (because the speak english) aren't the majority. It's a bummer that they have to suffer as a minority and they are right to protest.
A revolution is the only way they'll get more freedom. It won't come about through democracy. - Barackalypse, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1That only works against moral enemies, like the British in India. Tyrants don't fear your voices, only your potential to cause violence.
- Euxeus, on 06/16/2009, -0/+0IRC chan to discuss ways to help Iranians is Rizon: #iranelections
- Recluse84, on 06/16/2009, -1/+1USA and Israel didn't promise to wipe any countries from the face of the map last I checked. Dont get me wrong, neither one of those two are completely innocent when it comes to world politics.. but either they're far from the kind of crazy Ahmadinejad possesses, or they at least have the decency to hide it well. I'd go with the former.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -1/+1Screw you, I'm a dinner jacket!
- bicyclethief, on 06/16/2009, -3/+3When the police started beating my ass, that's when Iran.
- RedTroll, on 06/16/2009, -2/+2I hope that you american idiots do realize that this whole "revolution" is just a power struggle between two islamic nutjobs and that it's outcome will have almost zero effect on Iran's policies. In a typical US moron's terms: it's like having a Bush vs McCain election.
- yeahwhatever58, on 06/17/2009, -0/+0I just ran, Iran all night and day...
I couldn't get away... - noupsell, on 06/16/2009, -3/+2please bury this sub... thanks
