- michaelpinto, on 05/29/2009, -9/+429I've posted this story because I live in NYC and this is the very same question I've been asking for about seven years now. In that time we've had two Presidents, three Governors and two Mayors who haven't shown any leadership so far (Republicans and Democrats alike). Rebuilding Ground Zero is the right thing to do - it tells the terrorists that they haven't won and it would show that America is once again rebuilding. There's no excuse as to why this has taken so long, every day I seem to read about yet another "world's tallest building" going up someplace else. Every day I look downtown to where those two towers were and I see a hole in the sky - how many years will I have to wait until something happens? Thank you Prince Harry for asking that question...
- Quick2822, on 05/30/2009, -11/+426Wow, I took the title as if he was at a 9/11 memorial service and while he was praying asked "When is this supposed to be finished?" implying he is bored and wants to go.
Glad I was wrong. - inactive, on 05/30/2009, -2/+221"We may never know what the World Trade Center meant to our enemies, but our inability to build anything on the site in six years symbolizes our national head-up-the-ass. You know, it took two years to build the Eiffel Tower. In the 1880s. By hand. By French guys, while screwing their mistresses. Of course we can't rebuild Iraq. We can't get ***** done in SoHo!"
-Bill Maher - Hetman, on 05/29/2009, -3/+193I have a question. When are they going to start building?

Rebuild.
This would be perfect:
http://www.leilaharry.com/journal/uploaded_images/ ... - wassamatta, on 05/30/2009, -26/+144I agree with everything you posted except "it tells the terrorists that they haven't won".
1. They already won.... patriot act, looking at my package at airports (think of the scanner in Total Recall), out of control cops, Cheney, Bush and Rummy still running around not having to answer for their supposed war crimes (over 1 million dead Iraqis...mostly civilians), Blackwater.. just some of my bullet points
2. Building 7... I still think it was 'pulled'.
If and when it is rebuilt, I don't think it will make a statement.... like they care if it was rebuilt. The original is gone.. damage was done. - snowrail, on 05/30/2009, -6/+116I agree they need to be built/finished, but I really doubt "the terrorists" could care less.
- elijahyossie, on 05/29/2009, -2/+93The lad's got a point
- Falldog, on 05/30/2009, -0/+74The one thing terrorists can't take from us is bureaucracy.
- Barackalypse, on 05/30/2009, -4/+71To be completely technical about it, we destroyed two countries and lost a handful of buildings, so the actual score is 0 to 0, everybody lost, some just lost more.
- dsmx, on 05/29/2009, -6/+563d realms would of made more progress then the current idiot running things.
- kanojo1969, on 05/30/2009, -4/+539/11 has been more successful at ***** up the US than the terrorists could possibly have imagined. They are still free, the US is mired two completely unwinnable wars and spending billions of dollars on each US solider that dies. The US public is more divided than ever before, the politics of the country are more negative and poisonous than ever before. The economy is a wreck, our freedoms are under daily threat, poverty and crime are growing every day.
These are not *direct* effects of 9/11, but they are all indirectly affected by it. It's highly unlikely Bush would have got a 2nd term if he had been forced to campaign on domestic issues. The mortgage market and derivatives trading would not have been de-regulated as much with a democrat majority. And the money from not fighting in Iraq & Afghanistan would have covered the smaller bailouts that might have been needed.
It all makes the pathetic effort at rebuilding the towers a good metaphor for the state of the US.
The worst part is that I think it's all going to get a lot worse before it gets better. We ain't anywhere near rock bottom yet. - mattmollysdad, on 05/29/2009, -9/+50and the answer is: never
- inactive, on 05/30/2009, -2/+42@thecosmicpope:
No, it's correct. He doubts that the terrorists could care less, i.e. he believes that the terrorists couldn't care less.
*cough basic English cough cough - GezusK, on 05/30/2009, -1/+34Doesn't mean he isn't right.
- fury420, on 05/30/2009, -1/+32seriously tho... the article makes no mention of an answer to his question, nor makes any attempt to answer it...
I had not heard much about the rebuilding effort in the past few years, I for one would also like to know "When is this supposed to be finished?" - AZRoboto, on 05/30/2009, -1/+32So...did they answer him?
- Robitz, on 05/30/2009, -5/+34Dugg for proper use of "could care less".
- optrenium, on 05/30/2009, -3/+31"When is This Supposed to be Finished?" ... I mistook the headline, and sampled article as him asking that about the tour of the site, not the completion of the rebuilding. Stupid me, eh?
- mysticalone, on 05/30/2009, -1/+29with a box of scraps. in a cave.
- yocouchdigga, on 05/29/2009, -3/+30lawlz
- AZRoboto, on 05/30/2009, -2/+27If it was 3D Realms they would have gotten 50% done then demolished it and then restart.
- djdingo, on 05/30/2009, -2/+27Sorry Harry, we don't know either. What an embarrassment is really is, still a hole in the ground while everyone fights over who gets dibs to build whatever god-awful concoction they dream of.
I think we should rebuild the WTCs. Of course have a memorial for those who have fallen but rebuild them the way there were.
To me that gesture is telling the terrorists, "You can hurt us in unimaginable ways but we'll just bounce right back. We're Americans." - inactive, on 05/30/2009, -0/+24It would be funny if it weren't so true.
- GoKings, on 05/30/2009, -4/+28I have more hope for Duke Nukem Forever than I do for this thing being finished.
- Petmc, on 05/30/2009, -3/+27Came for this post, left satisfied.
Time to slap my ***** around my dog's face. - barc0001, on 05/30/2009, -0/+24Right after Katrina rebuilding is finished?
Brits seem to call a spade a spade. Like Top Gear's visit 2 years ago to New Orleans:
"A year had passed since Katrina had blown through and we sort of assumed that after 12 months the wealthiest nation on Earth would have fixed it, but we were wrong."
"How can the rest of America sleep at night knowing this is here?"
And even three years after that visit, there was a special last month on TV in Canada of Mike Holmes (well known Canadian fix-it TV guy) leading a crew down to help build a house on a devastated block in NO and trying to jump-start redevelopment in that neighborhood.
What happened? Seriously? Your country entered, helped win and closed off the second world war in less time than has passed with Katrina, to say nothing of 9/11. - Hetman, on 05/29/2009, -2/+25When I visited last year in august. It did not seem to have any construction workers there and it really did not look like anything had been done. But I did find an awesome deli near by I wish I could remember its name though.
- Linake, on 05/30/2009, -0/+23I'm glad the media is finally over trying to paint Harry at the "bad apple" of the two brothers. He is quickly taking his Mom's place as the most charitable and down-to-Earth member of the Royal Family. She would be so proud of him.
- inactive, on 05/30/2009, -9/+32What terrorists?
- Khiva, on 05/30/2009, -23/+45I'm so glad somebody finally went back and did their OWN translations of what Usama and al-Zawahiri are really saying in their official messages, not relying on that CNN corporate ***** to deliver the TRUTH. Their translations are worthless, don't rely on them.
FACT:
Bin Laden has mentioned at least NINE TIMES that one of his PRIMARY goals, after the destruction of Israel and the removal of Infidel troops from the Holy Land, is that people in America shall have their bags looked at in airports. Particularly yours, wassamatta.
From the 06-14-05 video:
"เชค อุซามะฮฺ บินลาดิน!"
Translation: "LET A PLAGUE OF MINOR INCONVENIENCES DESCEND UPON THE INFIDELS! Brahahahahaha!" - bob_the_alien, on 05/30/2009, -0/+21Most Large Skyscrapers are finished in a years time.
Hell, even the Empire State Building only took 1 year and 4 months to complete and it was built in 1930.
This should have been done and over with. - GiggleStick, on 05/30/2009, -0/+20People find body parts all over NYC all the time. Especially in the East River.
- spriggig, on 05/30/2009, -2/+21They'll probably end up putting up a 1000 foot parking garage and calling it good.
- nigelmansell, on 05/30/2009, -2/+21i have a feeling whoever is involved in this project wants to suck as much money into their pockets as possible...
- rickrickrick, on 05/30/2009, -3/+21same, i was like, "what an arrogant prick!". tempting to bury for misleading title, but good article nonetheless.
- Darkyuubi, on 05/30/2009, -11/+29People seem to forget that the Americans don't really have any money right now to build those towers...
Just sayin... - michaelpinto, on 05/29/2009, -2/+20Technically they started back in 2006, but nothing much is happening:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_World_Trade_Center# ... - michaelpinto, on 05/29/2009, -1/+19You may question his legitimacy but you could learn a great deal from Harry about being a bit more magnanimous in your comments...
- PuffyPuf, on 05/30/2009, -6/+24RIGHT ON, Prince Harry!
This rebuilding project is far too important for America to have stalled out so badly.... - WesMantooth, on 05/30/2009, -1/+17They also use slave labor.
- XeroXenith, on 05/30/2009, -0/+15And Bin Laden speaks Thai, apparently.
- Khiva, on 05/30/2009, -2/+17I can't say this for sure, but there was a discussion on the same subject on digg awhile back. A few people who at least appeared knowledgeable regarding construction said that many of the delays are the result of having to excavate and pour a foundation in the middle of a gigantic metropolitan area. It's one thing to throw up a massive building in, say, Dubai where its nothing but sand all around, but its something else (they said) to try to do the same thing when you've got tons of buildings and nasty traffic in the way.
I'm not sure that fully explains it, but it does seem plausible.
As for me, I'm just happy they stopped calling it the Freedom Tower. Better to take twenty years to finish than to throw up something that sounds like a ***** X-Men reject. - inactive, on 05/30/2009, -0/+15LOL
no it doesn't. Skyscrapers by design are supposed to be relatively quick to build. Two years to build a big one is considered a long time. - Subduction, on 05/30/2009, -5/+19The WTC site isn't in SoHo.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+16We were sharing them with you and then you got all uppity and decided you wanted to do things your own way.
- Subduction, on 05/30/2009, -0/+14Legalize it!!!
- ceredron, on 05/30/2009, -2/+15well, what the ***** are we doing with our stimulus money, huh? I mean, clearly a ***** ton was meant to be construction, what better usage of it is there than this (symbolically, anyway)
- Subduction, on 05/30/2009, -1/+14"The guy" was telling stories.
