- GodAImighty, on 07/14/2009, -4/+198You gotta be the dumbest person alive to shoot at a group of 150 marines and soldiers.
- jaymzdean, on 07/15/2009, -10/+144So what exactly is the relevance of the pot in regards to this story?
- Liability, on 07/15/2009, -7/+111Smoking pot in a country where opium grows like daisies.. that *****'s crazy!
- slavery10264, on 07/15/2009, -4/+82"a pot-smoking, ragtag, thieving force..." Replace pot-smoking with doughnut-eating and you have a few USA cops.
- TheMAZZTer, on 07/15/2009, -1/+75I think the point is that's not exactly "professional" behavior on the job. Though I think the part about them being thieves would have been better to include in the title instead.
- STBAT25, on 07/14/2009, -1/+55This is the second time I've read something like this in a week. If the police are so bad you'd turn to the Taliban then you know it must be bad. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
- zmsquee, on 07/15/2009, -21/+68Oh my god, pot! They smoked pot! I think I'm going to be sick...
- CommonSense2k8, on 07/15/2009, -3/+41"The meeting was tense. Some police were smoking pot."
I don't see why that meeting would be tense.... sounds like a pretty cool meeting. - JemiePlayNice, on 07/15/2009, -10/+47I DONT KNOW ***** ABOUT SOCIOECONOMICS IN AFGHANISTAN SO
BLAME POT BLAME POT BLAME POT
I FEEL ENLIGHTENED - silentbutstudly, on 07/15/2009, -3/+40The article only says that A FEW were smoking pot, not all of them. I'm sure they just added that to the headline in an attempt to add more controversy to the article. The real issue is about the cops being crooked and the headline shoud read: CROOKED Afghan Cops Challenge Marines.
- Masayume, on 07/15/2009, -15/+47Obviously, it's the pot. </sarcasm>
- matthekc, on 07/15/2009, -3/+31Yes these criminals just need better training that's all.
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+24*Turns this into an argument about why cops are ***** and why marijuana should be legalized, taxed, and regulated.
- Frankyfan3, on 07/15/2009, -3/+25ESPECIALLY when you buy aspirin.
When you grow drugs, you are supporting nature. :) - Frankyfan3, on 07/15/2009, -0/+21ahem.... the "nonviolent pot user" aka the "complacent and docile pot user" is a stereotype propagated by the Nixon administration, originally.
The fear of the red menace and the communists was used to maintain non-constitutional control of the Cannabis plant so that "we can keep better track of the negroes and the hippies"
Which is ironic, because it will also "Make white women go to bed with negro jazz musicians" and turn anyone into a murderer and amazingly, "make cows jump fences"
Who knew? Now we have war ravaged violence & dehumanization to blame pot on.
How very convenient. - DangerCollie, on 07/15/2009, -1/+22Private Pyle! Why are you not stomping the guts out of those idiot police?! You let those ***** fire on my Marine Corp and they're still standing?! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, private! Drop and give me 50! Then level that building and bury those ***** in that open pit toilet!
- Jeepinator, on 07/15/2009, -2/+21I'm surprised that they didn't fire back and level the building with a rocket launcher.
- MWeather, on 07/15/2009, -1/+20You should see them when they're sober.
- jaymzdean, on 07/15/2009, -3/+21Exactly. This is primarily a misleading propaganda piece much like Dupont financed back in the day.
The idea marijuana incites people to violence is just a big a lie today as it was back when they used racism against Mexicans to demonize the "devil weed" - DontShootMeBro, on 07/15/2009, -3/+21..or stoned out of your mind!
- JemiePlayNice, on 07/15/2009, -2/+19Amsterdam is war-torn, as you can see.
- MattM0914, on 07/15/2009, -0/+17Every other week? If you lived with some guys who got high once every two weeks you have an inaccurate perception of what an average pothead is really like. Someone who smokes frequently (as in daily or at least every other day) pretty much can handle themselves pretty well most of the time. Sure, they lose their keys alot and have some problems with short term memory but otherwise could fool most people into thinking they're sober. The effects really aren't all that noticeable in people that actually have a tolerance to it. The whole stoner cliche of the red-eyed, disoriented, "Duuuuuuude" guy mostly comes from the people who don't have any kind of tolerance to it (i.e. guys that smoke once every two weeks)
Not saying that smoking on the job is ok, just pointing out that your perceptions may be a little off if you base what you know on those two guys. - logir, on 07/15/2009, -0/+16It's almost as if they're professionals with a job to do and not gun-toting thugs.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 07/15/2009, -5/+21I smoke a lot of pot, but I don't do it at work. It's not professional nor would people take you seriously.
- awinn233, on 07/15/2009, -0/+16ABC still uses go.com? WTF
- Wreckage, on 07/15/2009, -2/+17Pothead vs Jarhead.... anyone got odds?
Ooorah vs Hookah? - NightCamus, on 07/15/2009, -2/+17When you buy machetes, you are supporting the Rwandan genocide.
- slvrbullet87, on 07/15/2009, -0/+13How about stay sober on the job, especially if you are a cop.
- otterp, on 07/15/2009, -1/+14That is what I call restraint!
- NikoKun, on 07/15/2009, -0/+13Why classify him by "pot-smoking" That had nothing to do with his crazy monstrous actions.
- dhaugen, on 07/15/2009, -1/+14had they been drinking a beer it wouldnt have been a problem
- Tezkat, on 07/15/2009, -0/+12I'm a pothead, and my brother is a U.S. Marine, I find this comment funny.
- geoboy, on 07/15/2009, -0/+12Well you know what they say -- the grass is always greener on the other side.
Hehe... grass. - DextramPennae, on 07/15/2009, -0/+12Buried as impossible 'cause everyone knows pot MAKES you all about peace, love & munchies.
/s - RawOysters, on 07/15/2009, -0/+12What the hell does smoking pot have to do with any of the violence??
- Metavised, on 07/15/2009, -0/+11My father is a U.S. Marine and so are most of his buddies. They still get together occasionally for BBQs and smoke for many reasons. They smoke for the friends they lost on and off the field, and they smoke for shared experience of having to be sent somewhere terrible (Vietnam) years ago. They smoke to enjoy the tranquility of home after it was perverted in youth by the knowledge and experience of war.
I thought I'd ruin your "vs." for a moment. - Drazzim12, on 07/15/2009, -4/+15I think you have an extra /s at the end of your sentence.
- LocalDocal, on 07/15/2009, -0/+10"The US is our hope for the future and should not be burdened this way."
Well, if what you said is true that the police learned this behavior under the tough rule of the Taliban, then unfortunately, it is up to the US to handle this burden.
Reading this story, I find it good news that the local people are willing to trust the Marines enough to complain about the local police, and sit down to speak with them. This must mean the Marines are doing a good job providing better security and if the training mentioned in the article is, indeed, turning the police force into something Afghans can trust, then it's a good thing.
It's a burden and a costly one, but why leave Afghanistan without doing some good? - m3arvk, on 07/15/2009, -0/+10So you're being sarcastic about your sarcasm?
- fury420, on 07/15/2009, -0/+10buy organic? :P
- diggdiggerid, on 07/15/2009, -0/+9That depends on the drug in question.
- NightCamus, on 07/15/2009, -5/+14I guess the effects of living in a war-torn, poor and desolate country include violence and thievery. Or, we could blame pot.
- jamdogg, on 07/15/2009, -0/+9Getting drunk is *very* different to getting stoned.
Not that I condone it for that particular job (but I do for certain other jobs). - geoboy, on 07/15/2009, -0/+9Yo dawg I herd you like sarcasm.
- Rockyn, on 07/15/2009, -2/+11Despite what you may think we are in Afganistan for the opium.
Also you are only supporting terrorism if the the drugs are coming from terrorists. - inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+9" I fired because I didn't know who you were.."
^^ Only an idiot would do that! Not a stoner, but a stoned idiot is worse I have to admit. - rjshatz, on 07/15/2009, -0/+8Sounds like the words of a calm, peaceful stoner.
Btw I'm not against marijuana, I just had to do it. - Pakivelli, on 07/15/2009, -1/+9pot....addicts...everywhere... does not compute.
- BC200, on 07/15/2009, -5/+13***** MEDIA TRYING TO MAKE POT SEEM LIKE SOME SORT OF ***** EVIL *****. ITS BECAUSE THEY WERE ***** PIGS.
- directedition, on 07/15/2009, -0/+8Indeed. I respect your right to login as root to do your web surfing, but any professional who does it I would fire on the spot.
