- RepeT99, on 03/17/2009, -45/+692The church has become a total joke. If Jesus were alive today he would probably become physically sick with the legalism and ***** spewing from an institution that intermittently denies the holocaust and touches little boys.
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -42/+373An idiotic statement from the leader of an increasingly irrelevant religion.
- CrankMyBlueSax, on 03/17/2009, -57/+334Retarded comments like this from the Vatican do nothing but further the spread of disease and misery. It's time for religion to go. All religions.
- LunusMaximus, on 03/18/2009, -13/+235I find it hard to believe people are willing to take advice on reproductive health issues from a bunch of 60-80yr old dudes who've given up sex. That and the fact they're willing to shield pedophiles makes their trustworthiness on subjects of sex and intimacy exactly zero.
- logic6, on 03/17/2009, -39/+230***** the Pope
- b8765g, on 03/18/2009, -15/+200Catholic Church: Proudly fighting reality since 383 AD.
- exspasticcomics, on 03/18/2009, -6/+154Condoms: pope not the answer in AIDS fight
- yeeaauuh, on 03/17/2009, -46/+188Religion's not the answer to any problems what so ever. Props to the pontiff for trying to protect his hustle though.
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -27/+166I agree. Just ***** and pray you don't get the AIDS. /s
Alter boys don't have aids, no sweat for the priests. not /s - Skeptica, on 03/17/2009, -36/+163Why is the Vatican against condom? It's not for the benefit of your health. It's for the tithing. Our crowded world does not need any more population, why does the Vatican hate condom? Because it deprives the Vatican the opportunity to earn money from those that are never born. If the Vatican can get 10% of your income, it hopes to get 10% of all your offsprings' income too. It's a matter of business profit, not about your health.
- MJG2007, on 03/17/2009, -9/+134It always pissed me off that the last Pope (who was largely considered enlightened), could visit a place where tens of thousands of people (a great many of whom were children) were starving to death and as he boarded his private plane reminded people that using a condom was a sin.
Crap like that is why I swore off organized religion. I have no problem with people being religious, but it seems like the second they get organized, they turn into a bunch of *****. - MJG2007, on 03/17/2009, -16/+139I'm a bit ambivalent about taking advice on sex from a bunch of men who take a vow of chastity.
- Harboggles, on 03/18/2009, -7/+106because the whole "dont have sex" thing works perfectly.
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -16/+112The Catholic Church. Keeping Heaven packed with souls one African at a time.
- MetalMitch, on 03/18/2009, -19/+103Condoms won't fix AIDS eh?
What will cure the cancer that is organized religion? - zeth006, on 03/18/2009, -15/+95Quite frankly Jesus would be very sad and angry.
Sorry, but the Pope doesn't represent my way of life and he does NOT have a role in hobnobbing around with world leaders and promoting his own politics.
- Christian dude. - wishninja, on 03/17/2009, -15/+85Gee I wonder what the leader of the Taliban thinks about condoms. Whats that? Who gives a *****? Exactly!
- CoreyTamas, on 03/18/2009, -5/+74AIDS is a pretty huge problem in a lot of places in the world, and abstinence *is* the one sure-fire way to avoid contracting it. He's right about that part.
On the other hand, telling the world "Don't ever have sex. That'll solve everything" is, to put it a criminally mild way, naive. - hajamieli, on 03/18/2009, -9/+73Jesus would facepalm.
- krodriguez, on 03/17/2009, -14/+73Clearly, Benny is more concerned with religious ***** than he is for African lives.
http://www.iwannadomel.com/2009/03/delusional-pope ... - jokher, on 03/18/2009, -0/+58I guess Christ chasing the money changers out of the temple with a whip and flipping over their tables wasn't angry enough for you.
- dollar0dot02, on 03/18/2009, -7/+64Ouze: "as an agnostic, I'm pretty sure"
LOL - stickyman, on 03/18/2009, -9/+65in the ass, without a condom
- bsmang, on 03/17/2009, -12/+65Not only does he think that they're not the answer, he's quite sure that condoms only make the problem worse. How does someone so dumb live to be so old?
- ryancawdor, on 03/18/2009, -3/+51I can't conceive (heh) of any circumstance that the pope can make relevant social comment.
1. The man is cloistered and lives with people who LITERALLY believe he is infallible.
2. He is celibate, yet gives commands on how humans should relate to each other sexually. He admonishes the world to give up its pursuit of wealth and materialism yet dresses with ridiculous splendor and lives at the Vatican, home of a library and museum with some of the world's most priceless works of art.
3. And despite all these excesses, I believe the most vulgar display of ego elevation is that he allows fellow Catholics to KISS HIS RING. He stands there while fellow humans kneel and lower themselves in obeisance and kiss his ring. How can a "humble man" participate in such an act? - woahwoahwoah, on 03/18/2009, -9/+56I never listen to the Pope. His comments are absurd.
Abstinence is unrealistic. We need to be prepared for any possibility. - ZWarren69, on 03/18/2009, -16/+60Q: Why is Vatican against condoms?
A: Because they prefer the feel of alter boys, bareback. - Ouze, on 03/18/2009, -15/+59as an agnostic, I'm pretty sure Jesus WAS real. Whether he was "the son of god" is sort of up for debate but archeologically speaking I see no real reason to doubt his existence as a man.
- stickyman, on 03/18/2009, -19/+58We all know why he is really against condoms....
Screwing little boys with them is just not the same. - professorplum, on 03/18/2009, -7/+46and betray that vow with little alter boys
- bradharrelson, on 03/18/2009, -11/+49***** religion
Propagating HIV due to their backwards ass rules. - rookiepaul, on 03/18/2009, -3/+41This guy just keeps on getting better, first the Hitler Youth, now a condom/AIDS expert? LEGEND.
- charm803, on 03/18/2009, -9/+46Isn't it ironic how the Catholic church is such an advocate for no birth control but doesn't condemn child sexual abuse with the same authority?
hmmmmmm... - 10lbhammer, on 03/17/2009, -3/+36actually, maybe *you* should read the article:
"You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms," the pope told reporters aboard the Alitalia plane heading to Yaounde. "On the contrary, it increases the problem." - JigoroKano, on 03/18/2009, -1/+34What kind of idiot takes sex advice from a virgin regardless.
- charm803, on 03/18/2009, -4/+34It totally does. Just ask the Virgin Mary......
*snicker* - Tichondrius74, on 03/18/2009, -4/+32Aren't all religions irrelevant?
- tnoy, on 03/18/2009, -5/+31@christianw
John 2:15
I'm not even Christian, and I know about the time Jesus had a hissyfit. I also know its not the only case where Jesus has gotten angry with people.
You also have to look at what the bible is. Its written by people who worshiped him, do you really think they're going to be listing all of his flaws? - iLEZ, on 03/18/2009, -2/+28Throw the pope and his cronies out the airlock already.
- steelclash84, on 03/18/2009, -0/+26Which, coupled with their religious view of no sex prior to marriage automatically ensures chastity.
Let's not be pedantic. - brianhood, on 03/18/2009, -7/+32¯\(°_o)/¯
- nuketrap, on 03/18/2009, -7/+32Holy ***** ***** this guy is dumb, next he'll say, the world isn't round!
- Suricou, on 03/18/2009, -0/+25Their policy on contraception was only formalised in 1968, with the humanae vitae.
- ThaBBoyWannaB, on 03/18/2009, -1/+24Probably because the Center for Disease and Control (CDC) stance on condoms and HIV transmittance is:
"Condoms are effective in preventing HIV and other STDs."
Now if one man decides he is way smarter than people who research this stuff for a living and decides to tell the world the opposite is true, I'd be inclined to call him an idiot. So no, it's not because he has a different opinion. If you said the earth was flat I would call you an idiot, it's not a different opinion, it's just simply the wrong facts. - doctordbx, on 03/18/2009, -6/+28Gosh how out of touch is the pope?
- EarlOfLade, on 03/18/2009, -2/+24Pope: condoms not the answer in AIDS fight
Me: The Pope is not the answer to anything!
Religion is a crutch for the stupid, the enabler of idiocy, the promoter of ignorance, the supporter of female oppression and the biggest hinder toward reducing poverty, fixing health issue and moving the third world toward becoming democracies.
Religion is the enemy of reason and progress. - CaptMonkey, on 03/18/2009, -0/+21@christianw
Did *you* pay attention to the Bible at all? It can't be said that Jesus was a pacifist...
Matthew 10:34 - Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Luke 12:51 - Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Revelation 19:11 - And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. - drunkenoaf, on 03/18/2009, -6/+27Hmm. Condoms not only slow AIDS transmission, but also the time humans get to spend on earth without overcrowding and hunger.
Perhaps Pope Benedict thinks that condoms aren't the answer for reducing the rate at which the world's population is rising... in a world with diminishing resources and ever increasing waste.
If he's right about heaven and hell, when he dies, he's going down for the number of lives lost to AIDS. - logic11, on 03/18/2009, -6/+27There is no particular evidence for the existence of Jesus outside the bible. No records kept by the Romans, no mention by people alive at the time, etc. Every reference to Jesus comes from the bible or people who read the bible. Doesn't mean he didn't exist, but does severely reduce the likelihood.
- MacParrot, on 03/18/2009, -3/+23You shouldn't be digging him down as he's absolutely right. Not having sex is the number one way to make sure you don't get a sexually transmitted disease.
Unfortunately it's also unrealistic to think that people are going to stop having sex -
