- ScottMcIntyre, on 12/25/2008, -1/+40This would be my wish too.
- DjOverEZ, on 12/25/2008, -8/+44Despite what many Diggers would be lead to believe, the Catholic Church spends millions and millions of dollars in charity work all over the world, including the Middle East. I understand the dogma of the church is rigid and outdated but there is a social justice side to the church that never gets the attention it deserves.
- Fhwqhgads, on 12/25/2008, -16/+51Maybe he should start by calling for an end to the hatred in his own religion first.
- superfusion, on 12/25/2008, -7/+42Oh thank god. For a minute there I thought we would never have peace in the Middle East.
- nebkiwi, on 12/25/2008, -8/+34Same thing every year....
- j0kr555, on 12/25/2008, -10/+34He should ask what he can do and extend a real hand of effort.
- Rudegar, on 12/25/2008, -3/+22when was the last time there were peace in the middle east?
- Rantus, on 06/11/2009, -10/+27"Mainly because its hatred towards groups (such as gays) outweighs it charitable donations to other causes, which by the way, is funded by their followers."
You're smoking crack. I've never seen the Catholic Church refuse to help people in need because of their sexual orientation. This isn't the time of the Spanish Inquisition so get a clue. If anyone is kicking the ***** out of people because they're gay it's the Protestant Church, do a little research. Also, the Catholics in this country are helping minorities in neighborhoods that phony Evangelicals would never even dare to drive their SUVs in.
You stick to your ignorant Supply-Side Jesus or Athiest ideologies, leave the real work to those of us who live in the real world. - mrelastic, on 12/25/2008, -1/+16I'm a catholic and I go to a catholic school and almost everyone (INCLUDING OUR RELIGION TEACHER) agrees that the churches gay stance is ridiculous. We are all outright against it. I have met few catholics who have any qualms with gay people.
I know I don't speak for everyone but I'm just saying in the particular community in which I live there is no "hatred" towards gay people. - Stevanoski, on 12/25/2008, -2/+15There was peace in Lebanon before the Christians foolishly invited the Palestinians to live there. It was one of the vacations spots of the world.
- jacobcarroll, on 12/25/2008, -1/+14I'm pretty sure that he was forced into the hitler youth, and then actually deserted.
So, say what you want, but it's kind of a dick move to call him a nazi. - Saitekc, on 12/25/2008, -0/+13Oh, I see what you did there. It's funny, but in no way true.
- AlienMushroom, on 12/25/2008, -16/+28He's a human with no special power.
- Phalanxia, on 12/25/2008, -7/+19In other news, bear has annual ***** in the woods.
- spamspam, on 12/25/2008, -20/+30He should end his hatred towards homosexuals first.
- login:, on 12/25/2008, -1/+10GregisLegend:
You realize many of the schools and hostpitals you speak of are, in fact, already paid for and run by the church for the benefit of *everyone* - not only catholics, correct? If you had ever been to Africa or done even basic checking into your ignorant comments you would know this.
If you want to promote contraceptives, and I don`t think there is anything wrong with that btw, then there is nothing to stop *you* or a likeminded organization from doing so. Stop criticizing others, or telling them how to spend their money, until you get over there and do better. - Witchdoktor, on 12/25/2008, -1/+10RIDE NOW! RIDE TO GONDOR!
- Plotinus, on 12/25/2008, -27/+36The homophobic nazi can go ***** himself.
- dkapuchino, on 12/25/2008, -1/+9Claverhouse, Jews have been living in palestine for over 3000 years. In fact, today we celeberate the birthday of one of those Jews - Yehoshua of Nazereth.
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -2/+10There only was "peace" in the region when, coincidentially enough, the Muslims ruled the area and forced others to submit to Shari'a law.
- Me1000, on 12/26/2008, -0/+8He is relevant to over a billion people.
Strength in numbers.
For better or for worse people will listen to him. - Cannonballkid, on 12/25/2008, -0/+8some sense on here thanks DjOverEZ
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -11/+19All the comments here that say "***** the Pope" or anything similar are equally as intolerant and wrong themselves of other viewpoints. Blind secularism is just as wrong as blind faith!
- pixelguru, on 12/25/2008, -0/+7If he really wanted peace, he should acknowledge that his religion is no better than Judaism or Islam, and that true salvation doesn't require the oversight of some monolithic earthly institution.
- startx, on 12/25/2008, -2/+9Does that mean He is Batman?
- poidh, on 12/25/2008, -12/+19How can you call for hatred to cease when under Islamic law, non-Muslims are to be despised even if they pay the jizya.
- Jarasmen, on 12/25/2008, -1/+8Atheists digging people up.
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -17/+23This is the guy who said humanity needs "saving" from homosexuality, right?
He should move to Iran. He'd love it there. They don't even have homosexuals! But if one were to slip by, they can simply kill them:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle ... - Suricou, on 12/25/2008, -1/+7He is human all right, but he does have one special power - over a billion people who are, in theory, obliged to obey his commands.
If he actually issued any orders, most of his followers would probably ignore him :> But on paper, he has that power still. If he gave the command, he could probably still tip an election, ruin a politician, bankrupt a corporation or start a large-scale riot. The reason he doesn't is that exercising his vast power would probably destroy it. He'd get one rush of almost ruling the world for a time, and then his church would collapse from the mass-departures. - burchie2, on 12/25/2008, -4/+10yes, the catholic church is such a violent organization...just ask Bill Maher...oh, they don't like homosexuals either...run away screaming with your hands in the air...
- ScienceDoc, on 12/25/2008, -24/+30Does anyone listen to the guy with the funny hat?
- Anonchrist, on 12/26/2008, -0/+6Militant Muslims kills innocent people... Militant Mormons rape children and kill police... Militant atheists complain harshly about people killing people and groups that take away people's rights... Why are atheist the only group of people that are labeled "militant" without being "militant?"
- poidh, on 12/25/2008, -5/+11There used to be a relative peace between the Christians, Jews and Pagans.
- xDynaBlade, on 12/25/2008, -0/+6I wonder how this ranks on his to-do list of save the rainforest/stop the gays.
- cslawren, on 12/25/2008, -1/+6His comment may be slightly unorthodox on Christmas, but he's right, so get over it.
- dkapuchino, on 12/25/2008, -1/+6Its not just a question of scripture, its a question of implementation.
How many christian women have had acid thrown in their faces in the last century for not wearing hats.
How many muslim girls have had acid thrown in their faces for not wearing burkas? - FurDieNosferatu, on 12/26/2008, -0/+5Save your hatred and violence for the homosexuals!
/facepalm - InfiniteNothing, on 12/25/2008, -1/+6I'm no expert but might that be percieved as a somewhat hostile conversion attempt?
- deduction, on 12/25/2008, -7/+12The Pope calling for an end to "hatred and violence" is a complete crock of *****. Need I remind everyone that this is the same hypocrite who said that gay proliferation is causing more damage to our world than global warming?
Bill Maher said it best:
"If you have a few hundred followers, and you let some of them molest children, they call you a cult leader. If have a billion, they call you 'Pope.' It’s like, if you can’t pay your mortgage, you’re a deadbeat. But if you can’t pay a million mortgages, you’re Bear Stearns and we bail you out. And that is who the Catholic Church is: the Bear Stearns of organized pedophilia -- too big, too fat. When the current pope was in his previous Vatican job as John Paul’s Dick Cheney, he wrote a letter instructing every Catholic bishop to keep the sex abuse of minors secret until the Statute of Limitations ran out. And that’s the Church’s attitude: 'We’re here, we’re queer, get used to it,' which is fine, far be it from me to criticize religion. But just remember one thing: if the Pope was -- instead of a religious figure -- merely the CEO of a nationwide chain of day care centers, where thousands of employees had been caught molesting kids and then covering it up, he'd be arrested faster than you can say 'who wants to touch Mr. Wiggle?'" - PaperKutter, on 12/25/2008, -3/+8aren't all of us a little bit curious, seeing as how we're reading about it?
- Ymeg, on 12/26/2008, -1/+6"Why doesn't church ever do anything, help people, give money for food, medicine, clothes"
You have to be kidding. - Jarasmen, on 12/25/2008, -4/+8The pope doesn't hate homosexuals per se... it's more like considering them sick and in need of help. I dunno, maybe that's equally offensive, but it's not a "burn the infidels, throw rocks at them, bomb them" thing.
- junkneo, on 12/26/2008, -0/+4This is an annual appeal. Does not change a thing.
The Pope has to realize, that as long as those governments have millitary, there will be WAR. - apena89, on 12/25/2008, -2/+6peace in the middle east.
- Stevanoski, on 12/25/2008, -1/+5So much for Liberals being liberal. Leftist totalitarian who's heroes are all dictators.
- PaperKutter, on 12/25/2008, -0/+4@poidh
You seem to be forgetting a pretty big religion of the Middle East. I'll give u a hint.........no I won't...... - KyleGoetz, on 12/26/2008, -0/+3What you may say is true, but are you suggesting that the Pope say nothing against violence because there is violence in his own religion? In other words, you cannot attempt to fix a stranger's house until you've fixed your own? That sort of philosophy would result in a lot of people remaining in their own broken homes.
- daschmidty, on 12/26/2008, -1/+4As a Catholic myself, I am forced to ask of you diggers, what do non-Catholics know of the Catholic faith? Hint: we do not go to mass and pray for and end to homosexuality and a conversion of all non-Catholics and the ability of the Pope to secretly control the world. Most of us are much more tolerant of other religions than any of you would like to believe (that includes you atheists, you have the same right to believe or not believe whatever you want as I do). I make no effort to say my religion is right or the "only" religion on earth, and all I ask is that you let me be. The nazi comments are really rather uncalled for, and the child-molestation ones...really? Because obviously every young Catholic boy is molested as a right of passage right before we swear to tear every condom in Africa to help spread AIDS.
Also, completely disregard the fact that Catholic charities is the world's single largest charitable organization that seeks no profit of its own and holds as a fundamental tenet the idea that
“Actions of aid, relief, and assistance should be conducted in a spirit of service and free giving for the benefit of all persons without the ulterior motive of eventual tutelage or proselytism.”.
Some people in this world just want to help, they are not all always conspiring against you. - Suricou, on 12/25/2008, -6/+9Please, keep your insults accurate.
He is a homophobic ex-nazi. And only on the fringes of nazidom at that. -
