Pope apologizes for clergy sexual abuse
ap.google.com — SYDNEY, Australia (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI apologized Saturday for the sexual abuse of children by Australia's Roman Catholic clergy, keeping up efforts begun in the United States to publicly atone for what he called evil acts by priests.

- GalacticRerun, on 07/20/2008, -1/+2Yeah that's a good idea. Wonder why they didn't do that instead?

- WhoIsMikeJones, on 07/20/2008, -2/+2In defense of the church, lawyers also take on cases that were either made up or the story changed of a child molestation. I know that would be impossible for an atheist to understand though. Example:A parent has a child that has clear signs of evidence of child molestation on their body,it could have been a stepdad, an employee from school but they sue the church because they know that the church will settle the suit without question. There is a good chance that the priest is innocent if the parents go straight to the lawsuit for $50K instead of the police.
- HCviolence, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Your argument makes sense except for "I know that would be impossible for an atheist to understand though". Making assumptions about is what caused so many people to feel alienated from the church in the first place. The assumption that non-religious people are nonsensical hate mongers, the assumption that the abuse could not be happening in my town, the assumption that the child was making it up. I know people who were abused by priests who were treated like demons by a ignorant community or beaten by their parents for "telling lies" all because they outed a "holy" man as a pedophile. Assuming innocence or guilt is a stupid thing to do. Which is why we need a government , separated from the church, to provide a police force that will devote itself to only finding the truth and prosecute the guilty regardless of profession.

- heartsblood, on 07/20/2008, -6/+5The Pope is a lying sack of ***** that needs to be dealt with as brutally as possible. His history of child molestation is well known but will never be tried, why you ask?

I'll never understand how this prick is revered by so many people just because of some arbitrary title. And these same people cry so much when their children are violated to the point of suicide by "a few bad apples". It's hard to have feelings for cattle heading for the slaughter, no matter how painful it is, all you can think about is how good that stake will taste.- xsuite, on 07/20/2008, -4/+1While youre at it, lets find Elvis and Bigfoot please.
- bwhite4815, on 07/20/2008, -1/+6I saw the Youth Festival on TV... Come on in guys! We got the new stock of kids.
- treelovinhippie, on 07/20/2008, -3/+6***** him. His apology doesn't mean *****. He was the bloke in charge for over 20 years of the child abuse coverup. Oh, and he didn't apologise directly to victims, no he apologised to a congregation of priests and clergy. Complete arsehole.
- xsuite, on 07/20/2008, -4/+2Its sad that according to atheists, the only two types of Christians that exist are Catholics and Fundies.
Shame on you guys. - ADHD, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3I wanna see the pope apologize to the kids and explain why he protected and funded their attackers in court.
