Pope Warns to Take Care Of Environment
greenopolis.com — Pope Benedict XVI spoke to a sea of youths in Sydney for World Youth Day. He urged the world to take better care of the environment and that we are squandering the earth's resources to satisfy its insatiable appetite for material goods.

No care for what has passed, no care for what may come; just what is happening now. What will satisfy me now? We strip-mine and drill for fossil fuels in delicate environments, destroying ecosystems that may hold the keys to our survival in the future, and we make deals for oil with countries that are notorious for their human rights violations...but hey, at least I can fill my 26gal pickup truck with gas! The loan crisis came about because people got houses they could not afford with adjustable rates...now they want a bail-out because the rates went up and they can't afford those houses...but hey, it looks pretty now! The banks are just as guilty, because they wanted to make money on the customers right then, but since the people couldn't pay on their loans, they now suffer. The "war on terror" came about because politicians, both Dems and Republicans, wanted to fight communism in any way they saw fit. That meant putting training and weapons in the hands of people who were by all accounts pychotic religious zealots...but hey, we broke down communism! Now we're fighting the monsters that we created. There is an obesity epidemic in this country, to the point that over 50% of Americans are overweight, because the fast food establishments grew, because Americans wanted their food NOW, not later. On top of that, for only $0.10 more, you can go from the 16oz cup to the 32oz cup! Our guts are satisfied with all those empty calories...for about two hours...then back to Burger King for a refill!...in a few years, that chronic heart disease will pop up...but hey, at least I got my Big Gulp!
I can apply this to so many issues that we have here. I'm guessing if the Pope is speaking to people in Australia about it, this is a worldwide thing. I haven't been out of the country for a few years now, but if this is the way it is worldwide, then we're in trouble. - scififan9009, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10Dear Pope,
Please meet with all the owners of the corporations of the world who are causing these problems and tell THEM to stop it. Telling us, the people who don't run or own these corporations to take better care of the environment is fine but we're not the ones making the decisions to strip the planet of natural resources without regard for the environment.

It takes more energy to heat your living quarters one month in the winter than it does to heat my entire house all winter.
It takes more fuel for you to fly to that speech than I use all year in my vehicles.
You want a better planet? Show a better example!- hlund05, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Couldn't agree more.
- snea, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3I don't think he's gonna take your advice since you called him "popester"
- CommonDavid, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Good point, lead by example!
- planck6626, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I guess you missed the memo when the Vatican became the first sovereign state to go carbon neutral.

- Maximilian000, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6Your Holy Papelness,
Since the Catholic Church are the biggest property owners on the planet, how about you guys make the roofs of your churches out of solar panels? Too expensive?, I know, in that case I'll do f'ck-all as well.
Thanks for the chat.
Oh, by the way, you guys might want to have a look at the starving millions in Africa, maybe they're ripe for conversion by now.- planck6626, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I guess you missed the memo when the Vatican put solar panels on their primary audience hall.

- BCCStu, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Itsa mea the Pope!
- squeakyarmadilo, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Considering the fact that *just* the jumbo-tron TV's they have scattered hither and yon all through Vatican City for loyal followers to be able to hear the Pope give speeches in Latin probably take more power than my car, tvs, air conditioners, and heating system combined ... for several years... I don't really consider his input valuable.
- alapoet, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2If the Pope is serious about taking care of the planet, maybe His Holiness needs to back off the Catholic Church's benighted policy of opposing any form of birth control.
- UltramegaOK, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1The pope can suck my balls. He lives in a ***** cathedral or castle or whatever it is. I doubt its entirely powered by renewable energy. Lead by example Lester.
