- fuzzyllama, on 07/13/2009, -0/+66No pics in the article of the headcams bursting into flames but there was a gratuitous shot of Willy Wonka.
- ivanmarsh, on 07/13/2009, -3/+55Do I smell bacon?
- mostie, on 07/13/2009, -0/+32And the cooler, Gene Wilder Willy Wonka at that
- playyboy, on 09/29/2009, -0/+28dugg for willy wonka
- cygnus2112, on 07/14/2009, -1/+22You lose! Good day, sir!
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -4/+17Awesome. Will they be issued to all officers?
- schnikies79, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10Take a drink And you'll sink In a state of pure inebriation.
- jezsik, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10(To whomever buried that comment, it's a quote from the movie ... delivered with an epic intonation.)
- LargeStack, on 07/14/2009, -0/+10Dugg for having me believe Gene Wilder was somehow involved or responsible for flaming cop heads.
- mikemehak, on 07/14/2009, -4/+11it only happens due to interference with the taser.
Unfortunately their constant use of the taser is resulting in constant eruptions into flames.
On the other hand, maybe they will think twice about tasering grandma? - Pigeon, on 07/14/2009, -6/+13They want to film our every move, yet when we try to film them we can get arrested and threatened. The Police need to remember they are public servants, not public masters:
Section 76 of the Counter Terrorism Act - “58A Eliciting, publishing or communicating information about members of armedforces etc"
(1) A person commits an offence who—
(a) elicits or attempts to elicit information about an individual who is or has been—
(i) a member of Her Majesty’s forces,
(ii) a member of any of the intelligence services, or
(iii) a constable,
which is of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, or
(b) publishes or communicates any such information.
"which is of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism": Lol guyz, lets cover EVERYTHING. Views of buildings, streets and people could all be considered "useful".
(2) It is a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that they had a reasonable excuse for their action.
You are Guilty before being proven Innocent!
(3) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable—
(a) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or to a fine, or to both;
(b) on summary conviction—
(i) in England and Wales or Scotland, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum, or to both;
(ii) in Northern Ireland, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum, or to both. - takeodrizzt, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Buried comment for being a nitpicking ass...
- YourNameHere1, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6..... Stop, don't, please don't wear those.....
OOMPA LOOMPA DOOMPADEE DOO
I'VE GOT ANOTHER PUZZLE FOR YOU
OOMPA LOOMPA DOOMPADAH DEE
IF YOU ARE WISE YOU'LL LISTEN TO ME
WHO DO YOU BLAME WHEN YOUR BRAIN IS ON FIRE....
- mrhahn, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5This is England, the police (well at least the Met) rejected the use of Tasers.
- Ninh, on 07/14/2009, -2/+7Liar, Liar, cam on fire?
- protogenxl, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5That Hat had one day left till retirement.
- leif777, on 07/14/2009, -2/+6They should be FORCED to wear them everywhere and the 20 minute should be longer. I can see a cop beating the crap out of someone for no reason and waiting 20 minutes to call it in.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Yes, thats the *plan*
- snagglefoof, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3I'm guessing this is spam but I don't want to find out.
- plingboot, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Agree totally, but surely this particular issue is filming THEIR every move... and should therefore be somewhat encouraged. As shown by the recent G8 protests, where average joe was recording police brutality, the more cams on cops the better!
- edrodgers731, on 07/14/2009, -1/+3I definitely smell a pork product of some type.
- Colecoman1982, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Typical tabloid crap. Read the update at the bottom of the page. Nothing caught on fire. A couple of _CHARGERS_ started to smoke and the issue was referred to the manufacturer. That's right, it wasn't even the camera, it was a charger. This kind of thing happens all the time with mass produced electronics especially if they were trying to charge the cameras off the patrol cars' electrical systems.
- xs11ax, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2i love it when the plan comes together!
- borez, on 07/14/2009, -2/+4If it sets the heads of Policemen on fire...then I'm all for it.
- Mujokan, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Hey, I don't pay you to sing! You just used up today's bathroom break!
- TheMAZZTer, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2I assumed this article was about the USA since the summary didn't say otherwise, so when I read the part about "Her Majesty" I was understandably confused for a bit. I guess I missed the ".co.uk" on the domain. And I didn't actually read the article itself.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2I heard that
- Contradictions, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Talk about being in hot pursuit.
- skate3214, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Hard ass.
- Paranor01, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2then use FireFox with adblock plus
- borez, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Well you're doing it wrong then.
- 3rdDay, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Bring back the blue tit.
- brainflakes, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1"We're not against it," said Smyth. "But a couple of them have caught fire, which isn't ideal."
- JFitzpatrick, on 07/14/2009, -1/+2I have a long history of abusing electronic equipment and *never* have I had something burst into flames... well except for that homemade microwave cannon, but that certainly wasn't being used according to the manufacturers directions.
- keyvoh, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Did anyone else read the title and think it said "Police head burst into flames"?
- Nekogao, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I read it as 'Police headcrabs burst into flames'.
Damn you, Half-Life! - decker12, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I never thought my life could be anything but catastrophe, but suddenly I begin to see... a bit of good luck for me!
'Cause I've got a golden ticket, I've got a golden twinkle in my eye.. - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1dammit, if only they were trying the implanted prototype models....
- paulsmith288, on 07/14/2009, -2/+3proper nazi law. One rule for them one rule for us. Funny thing is we had terrorists for years (IRA) but as soon as they have brown skin the media (thank you Mr Murdoch) go nuts and the govt assume even more power.
10 years in prison for filming a member of the secret police via trial without a jury - it can happen in the UK today. - pagit, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1are they against it?
- Fleagleman, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I read this article thinking, "You know, this reminds me of Willie Wonka." And, wouldn't you know, that's the thumbnail for this story! Amazing.
- unknownpoltroon, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1I would like to see a printout of the correlation between officers who's headcams bursts into flame and officers who have brutality and harassment cases brought against them. Wanna bet there's a whole lotta overlap?
- redrighthand, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1I definitely smell a pork product of some type.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJb3JiLFgTg - digghasnoethics, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1I wonder, did they spontaneously burst into flames just after Sgt Knacker of the yard had laid into some protester, but before the recording could be archived?
- acitodg, on 07/14/2009, -2/+2This is pretty funny! It reminds of a Benny Hill skit.
- Pixelante, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0A hooligan with a fire extinguisher.
- 4AntiStupid, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0That could be an advantage. Who is going to mess with a cop with a flaming camera on this head?
- mrzisme, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0Sargent, this headcam smells like burning snozberries
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1I was too hopeful there for a moment I thought I would be able to make a pun about cops being hot-headed. *****...
