- canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -36/+199Wow.....I never thought I'd say this, but the protestor that screamed "facist pigs" is right.
That girl that got tasered for like 20 seconds, the guy that jumped on the sign got tasered, cops are pepper spraying protestors, and a 70 year old got bit by a police dog that the cop was using to intimidate civilians...WTF? - VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -17/+169"what kind of a boyfriend are you?"
Probably the kind that doesn't want to do jail time for assaulting a police officer. - jfpwr, on 10/12/2007, -40/+154peaceful protesters getting tasered wtf? the video was hard to watch and very appalling... seems like freedom of speech is the only thing we have left and at that its just asking to get tasered.
the police now can solve all their problems with tasers like how people on drugs solve their problems with drugs... the more and more they use these easy ways out i.e 'w'ell just taser everyone' , the more and more people will get tasered for nothing... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -27/+101@newport365
I guess you have never seen the police footage where the cops are talking about the familiar faces, and attacking the ones that protest often. There is a reason for hiding your faces at these events. - cannibaljp, on 10/12/2007, -21/+94that's some old footage, but...
my mother was a police officer.
she would be mortified by the actions of these police officers.
mortified. - orbit1979, on 10/12/2007, -41/+111Hitler would have been proud of his legacy.....
- sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -26/+92Why were the protesters walking in the middle of the street during the beginning?
I'm not at all saying the police did the right thing, though.
Also, at 1:20, I can clearly hear the main guy with the megaphone say, "Back off right now, get out of here cops!"
A few seconds later, a protester says "***** you" to one of the cops.
I think this march was less peaceful than meets the eye. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -19/+78-They were interrupting the flow of traffic
-Most of the leaders of the march had their faces covered
-we don't see what caused the firing of the tazer
-Masked people were being belligerent to the police
-I'm willing to wager that they didn't have a permit for marching in the middle of the street
-There seemed to be a lot of unseen acts by the protesters.
-There was definitely a point where someone tried to escape into the crowd and a female officer had to jump in to get them... what was he running from?
-over 50% of the movie is interviewing the "victims" with no rebuttals allowed from the police.
As someone else said... there's a lot more to this than was shown in an obviously edited video. - JesseCM, on 10/12/2007, -8/+65There should be a law to keep cops from using unnecessary force....
Oh wait there already is... - gardnert1, on 10/12/2007, -29/+80unfortunately this sorta thing is all too common in America. Too bad We the People have no power to prevent this from happening in the future. Land of the free indeed...
- sunsetprojects, on 10/12/2007, -12/+61@ newport365
I don't know if you know this but a cop is not allowed to use force unless his life is in danger. Your taught at the academy never to use force on anyone that says "F*** you" or any swearing for that matter. That is not your life being put in danger. Freedom of speech means Freedom of speech. - BoogerRed, on 10/12/2007, -36/+79This will get buried no doubt by the way left leaning majority of the site but I'm going to say it anyway. I have seen this footage as part of a training exercise and what the officers did was perfectly legal. The protesters had no permit to march down the center of the street which is what touched off the police in the first place. The use of the tazers were perfectly legal and justified. If a person is not complying with a lawful order and an officer feels he has no other choice he may opt to either use brute force to force compliance or non lethal force. In this situation that quickly deteriorated by people who THOUGHT they were LEGALLY protesting, the use of a tazer was even more justified as a psychological tool to motivate the crowd to disperse as ordered.
As much as people do not like it. You do not have an absolute right to impede traffic in the name of free speech. I hate this war as much as the next person but if you want to protest than go about it the right way.
It's amazing to me how after 9/11 this country could not be more unified. Everyone stood together. Then came an obnoxious oil tycoon masquerading as our President and drives a wedge so decisive between the American public that people might be able to imagine what it was like when the Civil War broke out 150 or so years ago. Just sad. - arestme, on 10/12/2007, -23/+63There should be a law against bringing little kids to protests.
- netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -27/+64@newport365: These people were well within their rights. If you want to say ***** like that, at least get tazered once yourself so you have a clue about what you're talking about. There is no reason WHATSOEVER for police to be armed with tazers. We got by just as well without them for centuries, so why the ***** are we using them now? Does someone have to die before they get taken off the equipment registrar? Say they're non-lethal all the ***** you like, when you're in a crowd like that you don't know who you're aiming at and what you're doing until it's far too late.
- blackkbot, on 10/12/2007, -12/+46Standard police protocol. Nothing to see here. Move along people.
/sarcasm - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -11/+40You'd think that in a free country, peaceful protesters wouldn't be attacked by police.
- ikak, on 10/12/2007, -11/+39whatever happened to the ways of Ghandi... I think, if you really want to make a statement.. don't draw attention to yourselves so boldly by walking in the middle of the street like an idiot.. find a place.. a common place for everyone to pass by. And just sit there.. then have more and more people come. And you can have your signs. But stay calm, and quiet.. and just enjoy a nice day in the park or where ever.. with more people joining every now and then, it will begin to draw attention, and with signs posted, and maybe even people handing out flyers.. you can make a statement.. sometimes silence speaks the loudest.
- gardnert1, on 10/12/2007, -15/+41@newport
I couldnt tell you how many times i've seen footage of cops tazering protesters and shooting crowds with pepper spray, rubber bullets, and CS gas. When our government believes it's job is to suppress protests because they are worried about the protesters inciting riots then we have a serious problem. I wont try to change your mind because its clearly already set on supporting the government no matter what they do. You obviously dont know what freedoms we are supposed to have and why we were meant to have them. You should just go back to watching your sports on TV and forget that you even heard of the Bill of Rights; that way, when the police state manifests in full form it will be easier for you to accept it and just tell yourself its all to protect our freedoms right before your morning regime of exercises (be sure to do them right, lest you upset Big Brother). - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -14/+40@triscuitbiscuit
He left his ID at his dorm room and said he didnt have it.
He couldnt get up because he was hit with 100,000 VOLTS of electricity FIVE times.
Lets see you try to get up after one shot, and get shot again because you cant.
"but this protest was definitely not a "peaceful assembly"."
Did they harm anyone? Saying "***** you" is NOT violent. - trenchcoat, on 10/12/2007, -12/+38Video seemed heavily edited to me. It also seemed like the protesters were causing a traffic hazard putting themselves and others in danger. Let's not forget the guys wearing masks. It's also obvious that the police were provoked somehow but the video missed that. And people who bring their kids to protests are asshats.
- ggypsy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34@TheCash:
"I thought we Americans had outgrown this sort of nonesense, and that we understood the way of peaceful resistance. It breaks my heart to see we have learned nothing."
What was violent about the man sitting on the sidewalk (where the police were previously instructing them to congregate, instead of the street) who had a snarling German Shepard a foot from his face and was dragged off? What was violent about the elderly woman who was BIT by that German Shepard, and from a position that she could only have been bitten at if she was WALKING AWAY at the time? Or the young woman who nearly had her arm wrenched out of its socket by an officer who dragged her away towards the end?
None of these people mentioned protesting the troops. They were protesting the disingenious and often illegal practices to recruit those troops in the armed services. I don't know if you ever served in the military, but the most common thing I heard while I was in was, "Who, me? My recruiter f***ed me, lied his ass off."
Looking at this as even-handedly as I possibly can, disregarding any information that was not directly seen on tape (such as the statement that the tasered girl at the beginning was already on the ground and submissive when she was tazed, which I couldn't see one way or the other...) it's still an abomination. The police may have had a responsibility to clear the streets, because they have a responsibility to minimize the adverse affects of a protest and halting traffic is unacceptable, but their methods were obscene and excessive in the extreme. - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27"Hitlers Brown Shirts were SOCIALISTS"
Not to burst anyone's cherished bubble, but Hitler's Nasdap party differed ever so slightly from most socialist governments today.
Even during WWII, actual socialist movements were leftist--a political leaning Hitler did not tolerate once in power.
His fascism was veiled with socialist rhetoric to sound more like a Volkspartei--or popular movement. - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30"Yes it's true, I watched and did nothing as my defenseless girlfriend was brutally tazered, someone had to run the camera" LOL
but seriously police brutality should not be permitable at all. the only circumstance in witch a police officer should have the right to attack someone is if thier life is in danger, or other people's lives are in danger. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -28/+49Sorry for comment abuse, but this needs to be shown again

We are living in a partial police state, and it will make the full transformation soon. - gardnert1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27@triscutbiscut
What do you think happens when you get tazered? It shocks your muscles and nervous system to the point of overload, thats why you are instantly incapacitated. Do you really think the kid could get up after one shot? No, because NO ONE CAN. All of you who would blame the cops are not Americans, youre ***** fascists and stand for everything our founding fathers and countless men afterward stood against. Just because someone is "liberal" or a "hippie" and feels like using their freedom of speech does NOT mean they deserve to be tasered. Ask yourselves, if you could make America ALL conservative Republicans, would you? If you would, then what would make that different from one-party Nazi Germany? Or one party Soviet Russia? Nothing. And what do you think we'd get out of that? Probably totalitarianism. You can say what you like about "protecting our freedumbs" but if you can justify taking them away to protect them then you are living in a delusional fantasy world. If you hate the thought of people being able to say what they want, whenever they want without being attacked by the government then move to China! Better yet, i hear North Korea welcomes defectors with open arms as long as you can give them some information on the US. - JoeMerchant, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Armyvet: remember, he may not live in the USA.
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28@BoogerRed
What happened with the first amendment, where citizens are allowed to peacefully assembly and talk ***** about the government, without having to be subjected to violence from the cops? Isn't a citizen of the USA free to say whatever he wants in a public place? - Groovemaster, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26I hope they make a law that says police can't pepper spray innocent children first. I'd say that's a little worse than bringing kids to a protest.
This is basically the police state sending a message to the American population: "Protest, and we will ***** you up. Don't do it." - Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22OK, here's the deal, since a couple people didn't bother to read the blurbs I posted (or watch the video associated the second one).
I don't know what set things in motion, but it sounds like...
1) Something happens.
2) One guy (Robinson) strikes a camera man.
3) Camera man goes and gets a cop.
4) Robinson runs.
5) When the cops catch Robinson, some lady (Caliguiri) tries to pull him away from the cops. This is obstruction of justice.
6) The cops user pepper spray on Caliguiri. It doesn't work.
7) The cops warn her THREE TIMES to stop, or they'll taser her. She doesn't stop.
8) The cops taser her.
Only one person was pepper-sprayed. Only one person (the same person) was tasered. The person bit by the dog was, apparently, someone else potentially unrelated to the events unfolding.
I see nothing wrong with how the events played out. What's would be more interesting is how it all started, but it doesn't really sound the cops were involved in that. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Thing is, We The People *are* the government. A government by the people, of the people and for the people. At least, that was the original intent...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24i'm pretty sure its unlawful to be marching down an open street, cars still coming down it and everything
as for peaceful, the video doesn't actually show who attacked first. way to go, *****
and as for people having their kids with them, i think its ironic that the protest is antibrainwashing, and then the parents go ahead and force their beliefs on them instead - Jarodd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'm sorry but i would make jail time for defending my girlfriend.
- LukeSkyWRX, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23I just got an idea for a new company, tazer wear. just run a grid of superfine conducting wires so the clothing helps to conduct the power reducing the shock.
now they just came out with a consumer model of the tazer i think its gonna turn simple problems in to out of control situations. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19
The protesters had no permit to march down the center of the street which is what touched off the police in the first place.
I'm amazed at how sheepish Americans have become. You've become such a nation of cowards that you ask for PERMITS to PROTEST!? What kind of protest is that!? Do you think anyone is going to give a damn about your protest if you allow the pigs to cordon you off in an unobtrusive corner somewhere like monkeys on display at a zoo?
You god-damned fools! They're taking the last of your rights away and you sit there making apologies for it! Look at how low you have stooped.
America is just another corrupt ***** now, no different from any other failed country in this world. America is dead. - JesseCM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19@thcobbs
Dam you're right, soooo much was edited.
Like when the lady got bit by the dog, I mean we NEVER saw it so it must have been some hippie voodoo technique!!(right?)
If you start criticizing the individual people who try to make changes in a country filled with broken laws and broken elections, you're just aiding the people we try to remove... - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -15/+28wow wtf... the cops PULL a girl from the group and tazer another... both were probably there with their boy friends... man I dont know if I could hold back my anger if one of those pigs did that to my gf... >_> they are picking on the stereotypically weaker members of the group (including the older members)...
What bull *****... they even arrested a press member, which I hope it subject to wrongful arrest... or something... hell none of those people should have been arrested... but cops use protests as an excuse to arrest anyone they want... just because its the cops word against their's and a judge would believe the cop over the protester.
PEACEFUL protests are always legal, and should always be allowed... even if they are yelling, they were still being a non violent protest. -_-
And man it really burns me up, because if me and my GF were there, I would have just freaked if they took her, i'd also have tried to remove those tazer cords... even at risk of shock... I'd be arrested for killing the police dog and seriously injuring one of those cops... -_- ***** cops dont even know the dam law anymore these days... none of them are good cops... -_- - LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20If you ever watch the shoutcast tv station Rant.tv, they're full of videos like this. That is to say, anti-police-state videos. Truth is, they're all very carefully edited pieces of footage where police get involved and they appear to be overly aggressive and the mob to be uber-subdued, when in fact it is the other way around.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I live ~40 minutes from Pittsburgh, and work ~10 minutes from the city. I hadn't heard of this, but that might be because the protest took place in August 2005.
Here's some quick blurbs from my local news station's website (in chronological order):
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/4877967/detail.html
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/5027223/detail.html
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/9178189/detail.html - Samsong, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Guys, this wasn't a legal protest, that street would've been closed off for them if it wasn't... Did anyone else notice cars swerving around them?
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13As someone who has attended rallies/protests in the past, let's just say there aren't exactly a uniform set of nice people protesting either. While I have yet to attend a protest that's erupted into violence/beating, I always see a crew of people walking amidst the marchers wearing full on face masks/hoods, camo gear, etc, etc that look like they're basically begging for bad ***** to happen so they can get in on it. These people are never around for the speech giving portion of it, just the march portion.
This isn't to say that police should be beating the ***** out of protesters, but let's just say camera edits can make things look one-sided. I'm sure there's a police version of the footage that makes the police look just as peaceful with protesters lashing out. - kuzotz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@triscuitbiscuit
Law enforce shouldn;t act on what people say. When I was europe I would tell my friends how african americans are treated in the US by law enforcement. I mean ***** they were surprised. IF you look at a cop the wrong way you are now a suspect.. I'm dead serious. Now a peaceful protest were none of the protest threw a rock, or a fist at these cops. The cops were in the wrong in this one. Those people were tasered for saying some words!!!!!!!!!!! How the ***** do you call that law enforcement? Cops can be cursed out also, and it if they get mad and act on it by tasering someone then its an abuse of power. Cops should learn to do their jobs right. THough in my opinion having to grow up in a black middle class area were the police officers would harass you constantly. I would say all cops are fascist pigs. I don't trust any of them because for them its about the use of trickeryt o get arrest. Even if someone cusses them out. YOu can goto jail for asault on police. With what? A ***** cuss word..... The dya you see unnecessary police brutallity right in front of your damn eyes, and you saw the whole ***** situation from when you wer epulled over to when you're ont he hot pavement getting beaten to death. YOu tell me that cops are 100% in the right.
My uncle died that way!!! right in front of my eyes. The sad thing is he cooperated I ended up with a huge lump from getting hit with a baton. I was only ***** 11 when this ***** happened. WE were pulled over for speeding, and when the cop walks to the car. He pulls out the gun, and then tells us to get out. Then he pursues to harass us with questions. Then we get on the ground, and my uncle goes: What traffic violation warrants this kind of treatment sir?
cop:shut the ***** up before I make you!
*turns over to me*
cop:what are oyu looking at oyu punk trying to sell drugs?
cop:answer me!!!!!
*hits me on the head with baton twice*
Then calls for backup saying we were resisting arrest. Even though we were already on the curve, and cuffed.
Then I was grabbed, and smashed against the car, and other police officers came, and proceeded to beat my uncle. THen they proceeded to put their body weight on him. while he was on the hot pavement. HE died with 3rd degree burns for no reason. WE've been trying to sue the city ever since, but we can't now after 7 years.
Yes I gues sI did something wrong uh? - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Well, since this video was OBVIOUSLY edited... don't you think that some critical evidence that would vindicate the police might have been.... ummm... CUT OUT
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Someone find out what Police department this was... I have a nasty letter I want to write... Its sad that nothing is ever done to punish cops... -_-
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Two small children are pepper-sprayed and an M.S. patient is toppled in his motorized scooter."
I don't see any proof of this. I saw everything else, but I can't digg something where accusations are made without proof. That makes it questionable. That somewhat...and ONLY SOMEWHAT...makes it inaccurate. - UtopianComplex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11and we shouldn't let parents take their kids to church or into inner cities either... In fact lets tell parents exactly how to raise there kids, lets make sure that they don't allow them to witness anything that could be seen as political... lets make sure they don't go anywhere where something illeagle could possibly happen...
