- batleycraig, on 05/15/2009, -13/+332What the guy deserved has nothing to do with the Law or Law enforcement.
Law officers are not above the law...themselves.
It can not be tolerated... a renegade, vigilante style police force....... will be far more difficult to deal with than even the most vicious criminality.
Punishment is not among thier responsibilities... and being considered innocent before proof of guilt.. must be preserved.
I was arrested and beaten by the arresting officer... on a false report...by a drunk in a bar.... ("I am getting a little bombed." :-)
Because, I presume... he thought I was guilty. But being held down and sprayed in the face with pepper juice for 18 seconds, by two guys...well. It could happen to you...hope you have the $40,000 bail handy. It took me a month..
I had no previous record and was in my forties.
- inactive, on 05/15/2009, -19/+219face down and hands 100% visible. There was no need for the kick or any baton punches.
Sure, rough him up a little, but damn guys...relax! - DiggRage, on 05/15/2009, -10/+182It is not the job of the police to punish people for their crimes, EVER. Force is only to be used as a tool to arrest or protect. These cops should go to jail along with the guy.
- coolgangsta, on 05/15/2009, -16/+184Hopefully that was the last high five that man will give while on the force.
- CorineClaxton, on 05/15/2009, -7/+113The man had clearly surrendered. The officer wasn't justified in using force at all. The police do not have the authority to punish anyone. That is not their job. There is a reason why we have courts, judges, juries, and the rule of law. Therefore, all of the "he deserved to be kicked" comments are misguided. We don't want to live in a police state where police officers also serve as judge, jury, and executioner. Everybody needs to play their position. The police officer was out of line and it doesn't matter what the guy had done.
- unabsolute, on 05/15/2009, -22/+114Oh, come on! The guy was OBVIOUSLY resisting arrest...
Shoulda let the dog get some too.
/s - amorrise, on 05/15/2009, -2/+85Why are the criminals always so much faster?
- wilcocola, on 05/15/2009, -8/+90Dear El Monte Police Department,
Thank you for helping to get this scum off the street. But the kick to the head at the end was absolutely unnecessary, especially followed up by the baton barrage. Please keep your renegade cops on a tighter leash.
Signed,
The entire freedom loving population of the United States. - apzdsx, on 05/15/2009, -3/+85Because cops are always fatter.
- macmcraeart, on 05/15/2009, -9/+83it would have been infinitely more cool if he had kicked him in the head while running.
- amorrise, on 05/15/2009, -3/+68Sure we do, he was thinking "That's for making me run!"
- USAOwnz, on 05/15/2009, -2/+63They hit him in the temple and kidney, which are generally the worse places you can get hit, as they' re very sensitive, and blow to hard can be fatal.
- lelio98, on 05/15/2009, -6/+67Beat him harder? He deserved it for endangering lives? Since when was it the police officer's job to dole out corporal punishment? This action was abhorrent. That kick was potentially lethal, maybe the police officer will be charged, but I highly doubt it.
When you are speeding down the road in clear violation of posted speed limits can I kick you in the head for endangering my life? While this guy was most certainly guilty of numerous offenses, he was surrendering himself. He had laid on the ground with his hands and feet spread apart. The arresting officer should have drawn his weapon and waited for his assistant to subdue the offender. This sort of behaviour will only serve to promote the resisting of arrest. Why should anyone comply to a police officers commands when those commands may very well lead to the officer beating you. If this sort of brutal police behaviour continues, those persons unfortunate enough to find themselves in a situation like this may be warranted in defending themselves. - SkippyDoorknob, on 05/15/2009, -4/+59What really happened is that when the guy got down on the ground, a big spider jumped up onto his head, so the cop was merely smashing it before it could bite.
- greevar, on 05/15/2009, -2/+53Right. That kick could have killed the guy. A shot to the temple can be fatal. It is also VERY illegal to hit a suspect while they are restrained. All of the officers who participated in the assault deserve to be charged and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
- acknotSW, on 05/15/2009, -0/+45I come down on the side of cops more often than not, but that was just barbaric. Once the guy decides to give up the cops should be professionals and not take it personally.
I don't think it's a stretch to expect a slightly more painful arrest if you decide to run, some kneeling on joints, some fairly tight handcuffs, etc.., but beatings of any kind is crossing the line. You are no longer doing your job as a cop, you are metering out punishment, vigilante justice, and should be prosecuted for it the way any regular citizen would be. - QueenTiye, on 05/15/2009, -16/+56....seriously, its the LAPD, why are people even surprised? Maybe because this time the guy was white..
- amorrise, on 05/15/2009, -5/+43But that criminal personally made fun of that officer while they were in high school.
- jricestevens, on 05/15/2009, -2/+40Every time a cop kicks a guy in the head like this it degrades police credibility, which is bad for everyone. The man was not resisting, he'd given up and it was an unnecessary amount of force to secure him. Cops aren't here to decide what someone "deserves." They're here to take suspected criminals into custody using appropriate means. The fact that the cops did this in full view of the cameras will probably end up costing tax payers money when the apprehended individual sues over the excessive use of force.
- bratterscain, on 05/15/2009, -2/+39Wow, so apparently the executive branch of the govt is the new judicial branch.
News flash, it's the court's duty to decide the punishment for this guy, not the cops. - DrVic, on 05/15/2009, -30/+67The officer has every right to kick him as much as he wants, he is a cop and we all know that every single cop is a hero, therefore they are above the law and can do whatever they like.
- FishThePirate, on 05/15/2009, -4/+40It is not a cop's place to administer "justice". Period. So the cop was in the wrong completely. It doesn't matter if it was some other sort of worse crime, the police are there to "protect and serve", not punish.
- bencanfield, on 05/15/2009, -12/+47That.... was so fun,... to read... really!
- jmones, on 05/15/2009, -3/+37Stop Resisting!!!
- GamingBob, on 05/15/2009, -10/+43I would have leg dropped him like Hulk Hogan.
- ianmgull, on 05/15/2009, -4/+35Then you give him a trial and if found guilty lock him up and forget about him. The point is that nobody is above the law, police included.
- musleypope, on 05/15/2009, -13/+42You are scum. There are courts to dole out punishment in America. I hope someday you are the victim of police brutality.
- Batfishy, on 05/15/2009, -4/+29Really Durty? You want police to be allowed to react in anger like that AFTER he gave up? You can't possibly think that's the right thing to do, or that it's okay.
- bratterscain, on 05/15/2009, -3/+28My dad's biking buddy got rammed by a cop car on his bike because he didn't pull over quick enough. He was, however, slightly tipsy, but he got the ***** beat out of him by the cops when they did pull him over. I think because he looked like a typical "outlaw" biker they thought this guy was probably bad news and unloaded on him. In court it was indefensible, his word against a few cops who were there to "help" him.
- SpruceCaboose, on 05/15/2009, -0/+24Yeah, coming from a family of law enforcement officers, I usually side with the police when they use force justly, but this was blatantly a misuse of force. I expected it to be a kneel on the head thing when they cuffed him, which is common to keep a subject subdued, but this was just kicking a suspect while he was down and prone, in the face no less.
Uncalled for. - droppantsmurphy, on 05/15/2009, -4/+28Yeah, let's just throw the Eight Amendment out the window. Sounds like a great idea.
- jba68, on 05/15/2009, -3/+26BS the cops are trained how to react in these situations. The guy clearly was giving up, and did not deserve a kick the head.
If he was struggling then by officers could do whatever was necessary, but not cool what that guy did. - okcomputer1982, on 05/15/2009, -14/+37Police Brutality. An American problem.
- Tommydukes, on 05/15/2009, -0/+22You try running with 30 pounds of gear on your hips.
Criminal are also running for their freedom.....Police are just running after somebody at work. - mksmothers, on 05/15/2009, -9/+30Typical ***** cop behavior.
- bratterscain, on 05/15/2009, -1/+22Wow, never have I seen logic raped so much.
- inactive, on 05/15/2009, -3/+24Sheri im sure you wouldn't appreciate a boot to the head would you?
- hokie47, on 05/15/2009, -2/+22I have seen far worse. I say fine him, make him go to an anger management class, and note it in his personal record. If you want to send a message charge him for assault.
- jba68, on 05/15/2009, -2/+19Another reason that the cop should be punished. He gave the guy a get out of Jail free card. Now, instead of being punished, he gets to walk, and possibly get some taxpayer money.
good job Jackass cop. - 10ofDiamonds, on 05/15/2009, -0/+17Wasn't it in the UK where some guy just died after getting roughed by the police?
- Tundraz, on 05/15/2009, -5/+21He was just lying there - not moving being completely compliant - no reason for the kick to the head - Im suprised he didnt just taser him in the face...
- gemlarin, on 05/15/2009, -0/+16Sheri, there is no need to sign your posts. It is not cute. We really do not care what your first name is.
Also, it does not matter what the cop is thinking. It is not his job to administer punishment, and there is no situation where a kick in the head is the proper way for a cop to "secure" the suspect. What, do you think he was going to shoot a gun with his teeth? - amorrise, on 05/15/2009, -0/+16Or possibly given him the Walker Texas Ranger roundhouse
- amorrise, on 05/15/2009, -2/+17Wait, you don't think people who were picked on feel the need to get the "badge of authority" to make them feel powerful?
- digitul, on 05/15/2009, -1/+15the police don't give a ***** about innocent people being endangered. they just want to assert their power
- Bilabrin, on 05/15/2009, -0/+14Check how compliant? So If I kick your head and you don't move, you're compliant? That's like the witch test. If they drown they were innocent.
- kgerm, on 05/15/2009, -0/+14that is why we have JUDGES AND JURIES... regardless of what he did, there is no room for vigilance... i m not siding with the punk ass gangsters (i ***** hate them)... how ever this example is just a brief peek into how law enforcement works when they think no one is looking...
i too have been victim of our fine police force... i have been "detained" never charged with anything, (because i did not do anything) and well when they could not charge me. i got to ride in the elevator and get my kidneys jabbed with there beating sticks...they know where to hit you where it hurts the most and shows the least! they have been doing this ***** for years...something has to change... - rushiku, on 05/15/2009, -3/+17Yeah, something like: "Uh-oh, here they come again, I better drive and run faster so they don't get me this time"
- Snoogs, on 05/15/2009, -1/+14I hope you're the better man, because I would hold a grudge for something like that, and probably get in much worse trouble.
- bratterscain, on 05/15/2009, -1/+14idk, moral?
