greenpeace.org — This shocking documentary from Greenpeace shows how "second hand goods" exported to Ghana for reuse are actually causing horrendous pollution. "People in the developed countries bring them here to bridge the digital gap but in actual fact they are creating a digital dump."

  • tama00, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Those countries actually buy the waste and then use their cheap labour to harvest the minerals. For example the gold connectors for the batteries in mobile phones, if you get enough old mobile phones you could potentially melt all the gold out of it and profit. Except the cost of the labour in western countries to perform such a task, outweighs how much you would actually make.

    Thats why these guys do it, except they lack safe work practises and a safe work environment, which is what they need help with really..
