- uptown, on 08/26/2008, -5/+1First off ... I'm not suggesting this is why Hillary wants a roll call at the convention, and it's the absolute last thing I would want to happen to a nominated candidate from any party ... but from a procedural standpoint, if the nominated candidate of a political party were to die prior to election day does the second-place vote-getter at the party's convention automatically receive the party's nomination? Are there even rules for such an event? Here's hoping the Secret Service, FBI, and all other involved agencies are able to prevent the crazies from even coming close to pulling anything like this off.
- MarkCiccone, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Why would that ever happen? If for some horrible reason the party's nominee is killed, they would have another vote to pick a new nominee. There's no ascension in this like the Presidency.
- uptown, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1I guess my question was whether receiving the second-most votes in a convention automatically results in you receiving the nomination. And for anyone that dugg down my previous comment thinking that I in any way support Hillary let me set the record straight. I absolutely do not. I'm a huge fan of Obama and hope he becomes our next President.
- Dhalsim007, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2I think the party would choose the replacement, and it wouldn't necessarily be the second-place nominee.

- sanjames, on 08/26/2008, -3/+4wow. great job denver p.d.!!!
- macjaeh, on 08/26/2008, -3/+15It sickens me that anyone could have so much hate in them that they'd want to put a bullet in another human being simply for who they are or what they believe.
- Tarree, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2Yeah, next thing you know people will want to kill Nazis or slavers. Imagine, hating a person for what they believe in.
- SeventhSon, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4There's a subtle difference between peaceful political action and the violation of inalienable rights.
- DanThePainter, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5The difference is more than subtle, SeventhSon.
- ltdraper, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1I think I could bring myself to put a bullet in Osama Bin Laden.

- Timborako, on 08/26/2008, -2/+3Unfortunately there will probably be more of these to come
- Minarchian, on 08/26/2008, -3/+8**Law enforcement sources tell Maass that one of the suspects "was directly asked if they had come to Denver to kill Obama. He responded in the affirmative."**
So, these people come into Denver with a plot to kill Obama and all they had to do was ask if that's what they intended?
Are you people actually buying this?- speakerfordead, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3In general these people aren't the brightest crayons in the box.
- Tarree, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Very true. But I can't give any credence to them actually coming near harming Obama. More like the Marx Brothers than any serious attempt. If the police hadn't caught them, they would have shot themselves accidentally.
This does read like a cheap movie plot where the gangsters kidnap the good guys, dope them up and turn them lose to be arrested and discredited. I don't think that is what happened, but only some ego-inflated popinjay would think they had stopped some serious attempt on Obama's life.

- caif, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2I was thinking the same thing too. And is it possible to just look at a rifle and tell if it is sighted in at a particular distance? I thought you had to verify it at a range.
Also, Tharin was driving erratically? A trained cold blooded sniper, making 750 Yard shots, can't drive a pick-up truck without being pulled over? That's the guy you would WANT aiming at you.- ltdraper, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Don't forget all the amphetamines. Being juiced steadies your aim, doesn't it?
I'd like to know what the media is calling a "sniper rifle." Probably a .30-06 deer rifle with a 3-9x32 scope. Just ask the suspect what the drop is on their cartridge at that range to see if it was a real threat.

- Dhalsim007, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2I hope we find out more about this jabronies soon. Nothing like an assassination story to take the front pages away from the Hillary-Obama infighting.
- DCMacHead, on 08/26/2008, -2/+3While I don't like Obama, I think stuff like this is demeaning to the U.S. and casts us in a poor light--that sort of ***** is supposed to happen in third world countries, not the U.S.
Obama ought to be up 10%-20% in the polls right now, but he's even with McCain. Obama just picked a VP that undermines a lot of his positions (net neutrality, RIAA support, etc.) and openly supported McCains candidacy for VP in the 2004 election on multiple occasions (Tim Russert, Reuters, etc.). Obama's going to lose this election.- Tarree, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Gotta admit, having clowns arrested thinking they could assassinate a presidential candidate is third worldish. The only thing dumber would be to have UN troops provide security. (That would be Obama's death sentence.)
- Minarchian, on 08/26/2008, -4/+2"Obama ought to be up 10%-20% in the polls right now, but he's even with McCain"
I'll give you a hint: The polls are fixed.
I mean really...all of a sudden, days before the conventions actually start, the polls even out.
It sounds more like they want the delegates to tow the line and vote the way the bosses want them to. So they scare up the Obama supporters and put a flame under the McCain supporters.- DCMacHead, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Put another way, Obama's at the same point numberwise as the last two Democratic contenders were, and that's before the economy went in the *****. Obama's going to lose. Pretty ***** pathetic for a Democrat to lose, given the economy.
- DuggDowner, on 08/26/2008, -7/+2Guess McCain will have to move on to plan B.
- Tarree, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2I have to ask. Did any of them have recent dealings with Bubba Clinton?
- Vazelos, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Common sense is not so common
- sphira, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1"Are you people actually buying this?"
Forgive them for know not what they do -
Fomenters abound, and the biggest of them are nested within our own government ! - downs1, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Very interesting! Weeks ago, some of my friends were talking about the Clintons and the number of people associated with them who mysteriously died in Arkansas and elsewhere during the Clinton's reign. Someone commented, "If Obama gets in, he'd better watch his back!" Another commented, "Especially if Hillary becomes Vice-President!" Whatever could they have meant by saying such things?! That the Clintons want desperately to get back in the White House is no secret. We're still waiting to see what happens during the rest of the DNC Convention. There is obviously more to come!
- TBoneFever, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1damn, maybe next time
