- zeldafan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+109Discovery Channel called, they want their special back.
- Ascendant, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36I just told my coworkers about this.
"A mile high pyramid being built over in Tokyo Bay? Why haven't I heard about it on NHK or read it in the Asahi Shinbun?"
"Well, I read about it on this blog, and they had a picture of it, so it must be true. Besides, you guys are Japanese. You of all people should know that you guys do wacky stuff like this all the time."
"Ah, you are right, ascendant-san. We so wacky." - Ninjab3ar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23Thanks to blogs, now unprofessional, non-journalists can post plagiarism on any site.
And by the way, adding to zeldafan's comment, its only conceptual. I dont know how the blogger thinks this is real. Its construction calls for conceptual materials we dont have the knowlege or technology to create yet.
From Wikipedia: "The proposed structure is so large that it cannot be built with currently available materials, due to their weight. The design relies on the future availability of super-strong lightweight materials based on carbon nanotubes." - EmperorAwesome, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Remember the sweet arcologies from Deus Ex where only the upper class were allowed to live in a Utopian environment? That'd be kickass, except I'd be on the outside doing guerrilla attacks until they let the rest of us in. Yeah...bitchin.
- bjxrn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16This might get build in the future, but not before the japanese have spent their time and energy inventing uniformed schoolgirl sexbots.
- johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Huh - so they're building a Wonder. If they can keep it for 1000 years without the other civilizations destroying it, then they can declare victory!
Our only hope now is to start scanning the world for Relics to put into our monastery. Where's Indiana Jones when you need him? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I think I saw this on the Discovery Channel or TLC something like that. Looking kinda cool, but Dubai is already doing amazing stuff like this already.
- Phyltre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9You have to give it to them for having their priorities in order.
- grinndaddy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Dude. It's over a mile high. If they crammed anymore stuff in there it wouldn't be able to hold it's own weight.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9"if it were going to be built anywhere, Tokyo is the place"
-Dubai begs to differ - swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8lol Japan
- johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The problem is, the invention of schoolgirl uniformed sex robots will just be an invitation for slimy tentacles aliens.

I got a mighty chortle from this. - rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Did you notice how tall it is?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You know, I'm going to be very upset if I wake up and the whole world is a giant victory screen. Do we have time to build up an army of catapults?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Neo Tokyo!
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4someday, if populations continue to skyrocket... we'll need to build things like these in every city... either that or we need to start building cities ontop of cities... @_@
- Pac56, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This is the first step for Nerv to build it's headquarters underneath Tokyo-3
- josegutz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I believe it WILL be built...I work for an architectural consultant firm and they are going crazy right now with meetings and flights to Japan every week. (that's all I can say).
- luksy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Why's he getting digged down? He's spot on, it's a load of bollocks invented for a documentary.
And while we're at it if it were real what kind of INSANE construction company is going to invest in something like this, in Japan of all places. Their biggest concern is to cram as many people into square-shaped properties as they can to maximise profits.
Now Dubai, maybe, but only 'cos they're ***** for wacky projects. - ovideon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2A dome would be more effective IF the idea were to enclose a huge area with a surface. The idea here is simply to suspend things in midair, and trusses are the best way to do that.
- darktowers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There's already a pyramid in the United States right here: http://www.pyramidarena.com/overview.html
It's the 3rd largest in the world, so there must be many others too! - MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2why can't they just build across?
- medicineman24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@ johnhummel
brings back good memories!!! - rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@ pac56
Tokyo-3 is located in Hakone. Everyone knows that!
:3 - 4rch, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hmm, this will anger Godzilla.
- rabidbob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I Am Not A Civil Engineer: so I'm wondering why a dome wouldn't be a more efficient structure than a pyramid? Stronger and would have more volume for similar surface area. I'd ask about a nice big square box structure, but that'd be silly.
- thelimopit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@emperorawesome
Those arcologies in Deus Ex were one of the best things in the game. Actually they were the best thing in the game. - edrift101, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Renraku Arcology?
- anagai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2who cares about the building. I want one of those robots to take care of my fat lazy ass. Were getting fatter and slower, we need them robots to do stuff for us as we continue to get lazier and fatter and maybe fight wars for us.
- buildmorerobots, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yes! BUILD IT, BUILD IT! Next up, Giant robots to smash it to pieces!.
- tehbored, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is pretty old news. I doubt it will ever be built as the will probably think of something more practical.
- poliwonk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1*actual spit-take over the Godzilla comment!*
- EclipseGSX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Direct Link to the YouTube vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfsoBAT27pA - Derrekito, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1pollution ate the bottom of the structure. Oh noes.
- HyperionZero, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Yeah... this concept has been floating around for a while. I saw this on a Discovery special at least 4 years ago.
- kuzotz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1my god digg got invaded by otakus.
- seriousalibi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, so saw this on the discovery channel. This is by far one of the coolest things mankind will ever make.
- uberchaoslord, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It would be nice if you could test for "RTFA" before letting someone digg something.
- TheMadRhino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I remember once all of my Launch arcologies blasted off into space. That sucked, because my city was huge
- feebie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is pretty amazing
If it ever does come around to being built in the future, I could see it popping up all over the world in other large cities. It would completely change the idea of a city. But, like many have said...it's probably just an enormous pipe dream.
On another note, did anyone else find the video to be horribly draining to watch? The writing was horrible, the narrator kept repeating the same hypothetical questions over and over again. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its a replica where they found the documents that jesus had a child with mary magdalen that gave power over the church to the NWO. its on the back of our dollar bills.
- mranissimov, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1A similar gigantic building:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Seed_4000 - everfalling, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Nerv headquarters is lookin pretty cool. can't wait for the retractable buildings.
- nonpareil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This ***** has been all over the web, digg, everywhere so many times. How about you drop us a line when they start laying the foundation? Buried as ***** inane theoretical *****.
- kappuru, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ninjab3ar
"This is a half-ass blog made by some kid who probably doesnt know ***** about Japan other than anime, and feels like writing the blog just because hes half-japanese (read the info page)
Its the stupid half-ass blogs that pollute the internet that annoy me."
I'm not sure how you made this generalization seeing as how I've posted literally nothing about anime. I don't even really like anime, as a genre.
I've lived in Japan and go back all the time, so I'd say I have a pretty decent knowledge of the area. At least compared to you. - cvrefugee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Visit http://www.thetokyobay.org
- Rapsting, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1As soon as they finish designing and building it, one will go up in New York that will be called the Free Patriot Eagle Tower, which will be shaped like a giant star and will be a habitat for bald eagles. There will be a blank wall dedicated to soldiers and the like.
Those un-American heathens won't be able to beat that! Not in a thousand years! - chubbybubba, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tokyo trying to compensate for something..hmm.........
