The Red Cross clarified Friday who could be involved in a plan to move people out of Haiti.
45,000??? While I am sympathetic to the situation there and am all for assisting them, this is not the way to help them.
There was an intersting suggestion FTC to use Gitmo for the refugees. Another couple of comments that were good:
"Under what authorization does the Red Cross have to plan immigration status? While we all feel sorry for their plight the US already has enough of its' own problems to deal with as far as the economy and unemployment. Why should we be expected to make those problems worse by allowing tens of thousands of unskilled, illiterate Haitians in who will only contribute further to those problems. And, I have a question, will the Red Cross take responsibility to track all those immigrants so that they can be repatriated to Haiti once the problems there have been solved?" Excellent questions.
"Let's ask Houston how they have enjoyed being host to Katrina victims. Once here they will never ever leave. 45,000 more welfare receipients. Am I the only one who knows we are broke and can't afford to be the savior of the world?"

Once the damage is done, it's done. Not everything, DeepProbe, can be undone just because you vote them out... there isn't always a "do over" in the real world. If there was, I'd undo Clinton, undo Bush Sr, undo half of Bush Jr, undo ALL of Carter (and then have him exhiled!), and redo Reagan 20x. - DrJen, on 01/19/2010, -0/+2I'm with you on everything except Reagan. Having lived through Reagan in the rural Midwest, I want to undo what he did to many of the family farms. He was a good president overall, but was a long way from perfect.
