- cle2105, on 11/10/2008, -0/+30It would make a great paintball arena
- Jektal, on 11/10/2008, -0/+19Dude, I'll take one. $5. I'll even come pick it up. Would be totally worth the traffic ticket trying to taxi it home on the highway.
- ivencente, on 11/10/2008, -0/+12how the mighty fall...hard
- mmittimm, on 11/10/2008, -0/+11If you think that's neat, search Google Satellite Maps or Google Earth for 32° 9' 31.7'', -110° 50' 0.94'' to see a MASSIVE aircraft graveyard.
- Sp0rAdiC, on 11/10/2008, -0/+11Yup
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=3 ... - Jeepinator, on 11/10/2008, -0/+11you can't "that's what she said" yourself.
- agentzero141970, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10I'll buy one for $200, way better than buying a home nowadays. Add a sofa, and you have yourself a deal.
- kahoona1, on 11/11/2008, -0/+9I love these pictures that say "Click to Enlarge" and the clicked on image isn't any bigger than the thumbnail image.
- aspec, on 11/10/2008, -3/+10A traffic ticket? No, that'd be domestic terrorism. You'd get invited to a couple of social dinners then sent to Guantanamo until next election, to be paraded around as a friend of one of the candidates.
- zaferk, on 11/10/2008, -1/+856m pounds...thats alot even in dollars
- Haoie, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Like the airplane graveyard out in the desert. Surreal.
- agentzero141970, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4Still worth it
- lohphat, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Unless these airframes are put back into service soon, they'll have to be scrapped as the refurbishment and maintenance required to bring them back to operational standards will be steep.
Engines like being operated to circulate corrosion preventing oil. The longer they sit, the faster they corrode. - pastathellama, on 11/10/2008, -3/+6that's what she said.
- Angostura, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Wow
- ThatsNotPudding, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Long term storage in England = massive corrosion. To not park them in at least southern Spain if not Arizona is very short-sighted as I don't think it's going to be a sellers' market in the next six months or so.
- lohphat, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2I didn't say it couldn't be done, but it adds cost depending on how log they sit idle.
- MindStalker, on 11/11/2008, -1/+3"to be paraded around as a friend of one of the candidates."
HAHAHA, love it. - Darunium, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2one word: planejacking
- diggpoop, on 11/10/2008, -1/+3Dugg for "aeroplanes."
- tobikow, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2At least the pictures were taken from an airplaine.
- mmittimm, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Thanks for linking it, I couldn't figure out how.
- hockeyplayer66, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2They should turn them into cans to hold beer.
If you are ever in Arizona, there is a big one between Phoenix and Tucson with commercial airliners and then AMARC in Tucson with Military aircraft. Pretty cool - GQCarrick, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2-----
- xbrown, on 11/10/2008, -1/+3That's kind of sad...
- cubedweller, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2That's not entirely true. Storage facilities are excellent and preparing airframes for hibernation.
- Dumbledorito, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I predict a chain of themed restaurants with very uncomfortable seating and marginal food quality...
- denizen42, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2What a waste.
- spaceman84, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Main Entry:
par·lous
Pronunciation:
ˈpär-ləs
Function:
adjective
Etymology:
Middle English, alteration of perilous
Date:
14th century
1obsolete : dangerously shrewd or cunning
2: full of danger or risk : hazardous
So a bunch of people ***** up spelling perilous, it became common usage at some point and thus included in the dictionary, but no one uses it anymore, making it obsolete. It's creation was a mistake and it is stupid to continue using it. The author should have used the correct word. This is why the T in often is frequently pronounced and "a lot" will become "alot". Ignorance. - SoundJudgment, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Blow them all up in the next Hollywood Big-Blockbuster action stunt-movie!
Oh... wait... Hollywood's not making any of those now, either. Never mind. - wilhel1812, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1anyone have the link to that one?
- CrushThemTorg, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Hey uh ... you gonna finish that airplane?
- Liembo, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1"Abandoned"? Its not like they were just left to rot. They're still valuable assets to their holding companies. Sadly, some of these A/C were built only 6-9 months ago by Boeing, especially some of the Futura and XL 737's, I remember seeing them during their test flights in the area.
- chaos7, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1looks like john travolta's house
- GTPilot, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2Don't do it, it's Rick Astley's house!
- Technopundit, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Just another one of the results of putting a complete nincompoop in charge of the free world.
- PrincePickle, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Looks like business is booming for that airfield....
- Jallegretta, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Like outback? The seats are wooden and at 90 degrees.
- p51d007, on 11/11/2008, -3/+4Boy, you global warming anti-capitalist should really be happy with this!
- Technopundit, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1The bad part is that these planes were built for almost continuous use. Recommissioning an abandoned passenger jet is extremely expensive.
- egthareal, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2Reminds me of AeroBiz the classic airplane sim game for SNES.
- nick2, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2I'll take one off your hands...
- danielttt, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1Could've been worse. You could have been in charge...
- theloofa, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1No. Definitely not.
- Jeepinator, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2But they'll be still alive when we're gone.
- Technopundit, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1It sure ain't free.
- Technopundit, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Most of those planes at Davis Monthan were junkers when they put them there. Some of the jets in the story were almost new. It's a terrible waste. Not like putting a car up on blocks. Some of those passenger planes will never be able to be made airworthy again.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2...i'll take em.
- DLit, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1turn one into a convertible airplane...YES
