- 172pilot, on 05/11/2008, -1/+11So is an F-16, if they dont choose to put missiles on it... Once the plane is built, it COULD carry anything... They're just using politically correct speech to appease...
- diggless, on 05/11/2008, -5/+14the US already has the Reaper, which takes off and lands by its self, as well has has missiles and bombs. Not to mention it just looks cooler
http://www.defense-update.com/products/p/predatorB ... - InetRoadkill, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7Not yet maybe. But the Predator UAV didn't start out armed either. Now it's carrying hellfire missiles.
- flowaus, on 05/11/2008, -3/+9So... what does it transform into?
Wait - it's not a Transformer? - dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5A. The reaper was also developed for the brits.
B. The Hermes 450 has been around for quite a long time:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elbit_Hermes_450
C. You can't even start to compare the Reaper(Based on a predator) to the Hermes and Watchkeeper.
According to wikipedia (Which is harldy a reliable source on these issues): The hermes has a wingspan of 10 meters, the Reaper 20 meters.
That's twice the size. The hermes weighs 450Kg (hence it's name), the Reaper ways 1500kg. These are completely different classed aircrafts, with different usages and different goals. - Enasni1212, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6"Friendly chopper on the way!"

- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Well, you see, we've never been as good as you guys in Rhetoric. We call it as it.
On one hand, you have a UAV, armed with 2 Hellfire missles, which are Laser Guided. This means that you can hit a car driving terrorists with this missle, and have little if any collatoral damage. We call that a Predator.
On the other hand, you have a teenager. He's got a bomb strapped to his chest, and he blows himself up in a mall / schoolbus / coffee shop. You guys call him a "Shahid"=Martyr. The whole action is part of your "Jihad"="Holy war". So being that they're are all "martyrs" fighting a "holy war" (by intentionally murdering women and children), you must be the good guys? - dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3So easy to take things out of context, and twist them around to support your skewed view of reality.
The reason unmanned platforms are developed, is to reduce the ammount of casualites on your side. That's been the way to wage war since the beginning of time. That's why tanks were invented, that's why body armor is invented, that's why helmets were invented. That's what cruise missles are for. You can take out an enemy target without ever having to step on an enemies soil. That's the point of developing stealth capabilities for our bombers. Unmanned platforms are just another way of protecting your soldiers. taking them as far away from harm's way.
Being that drones will never be allowed to engadge targets without a human operator, there will always be a human factor in the decision, with homan morals. Immoral orders (which are rarely ever given in western armies, unless you fanatics consider killing an enemy fighter immoral) won't be disobeyed by the drones, they'll be disobeyed by those operating the drones. - GregFD3S, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3Damn, you beat me to it.
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Is that historical ignorance, or has their propaganda actually worked on you?
Well, either way, I'll fill you in with the real facts, you can google them up later.
1. Israel has been the holy land to the jews way before Muhammed was even born. (Muhammed being the creator of Islam).
2. Jews have been living in Israel for thousands of years. Open the Bible, the new Testament, or the Koran, they'll all tell you the same.
3. Israel was never "THEIR" country. Truth of the matter is, most arabs have been living in tribes, wandering with their Camels, very much like the beduins of today. The so called "Palestinians" (Which have no relation what so ever to the Philistines who once settled in the coastal areas of Israel), only started coming to Israel in the past century and a half, looking for work that was created by the Jewish settlers, which now brought a new trade to this land - Farming. The Arabs gave up their camels and trading, and went to work in the Jewish fields.
4. Here's something you might find surprising: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_Jews, Amazing enough, "Palestinian" was a term used by the british empire to describe any resident of Palestine, whether jewish or arab. One thing the Arabs are very good at, is changing history, and propaganda. Stripping the jews of the Palestinian Title has been just one more of their successes.
During the times of the British Mandate of Palestine, all residents of the Mandate were referred to as 'Palestinian' officially. However, the Arab residents of the Mandate, who largely identified with the Arab cause, and saw themselves as having a different national identity, viewed the term "Palestinian" as a derogatory colonialist British term, designed to erase their Arab identity. This sentiment was especially strong during the 30s and early 40s, when the idea of Greater Syria was viewed positively by the Arab of the Levant, among them the Palestinian Arabs.
5. Israelis were more than willing to live asides the Arabs in Israel. It was the Arabs in Israel that weren't keen on that. Whenever a Large Jewish immigration was on the way to Israel, the Arabs would start massacres.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1929_Hebron_massacre
Read that link very carefully. Do you understand what it means? 1929? before Israel even existed as a state, when the British were still ruling Palestine, they were slaughtering jews.
6. The 1948 war, which created the "palestinians" as you know today, was started by the Arab league. After the UN recognized the Israeli state, alongside an arab state, the Arabs just couldn't take that. So what if the UN decided so. So what if the entire world supported the new Israeli state? They decided to Invade, and try to rid of the Jews once and for good. It was then that the Arabs living in Israel had a choice. Stay out of the fighting, or be considered enemies as well. This is what created the Palestinains. Those that decided to side with the invading arab countries, were kicked out of Israel, to go join their commrades in war. The smarter ones realized they're better off being a part of Israel, than trying to destroy Israel. These are now known as Israeli arabs, and they hold Israeli Citizenship, Have members in the Israeli Parlament, the Israeli Science Minister is Arab, and more or less live a better life than they ever could in a 3rd world arab country.
Sadly my friend, you have been subjected to the same brainwashing Palestinians brainwash their children from early age. Brainwashing based on lies and Demonizing of the Israelis, all justifying the unjust murderous killing of Israeli women and children, which has been going on for over a century now. The only difference between the Massacares 100 years ago to the Massacres today, Is that Israel Finaly has an Army it can use to defend itself. If it hadn't, you and I wouldn't be having this conversation. The Jews would only exist in history books. - Mechanicat, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Aren't computers wonderful?
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Check out what's going on in Lebanon right now. That's exactly what happens when they don't have the Israelis to fight. They start fighting each other. Same thing in Gaza. Hamas and Fatah murdering each other. They can't even make friends with themselves, how do you expect them to make friends with others?
- Frostek, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3Like you'd know.
- co4e, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3apparently - autonomously.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -2/+4That reaper is badass.
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3A. This is not a weapon. It's an Intelligence gathering machine.
B. Autonomous doesn't mean self-directed or no external control, it refers to the capacity of a rational individual to make an informed, uncoerced decision. In this case, It means the UAV is able to land or take off however it decides, when all It needs to know is when it is expected to takeoff/land. - dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Actually from Israel, a world leader in UAVs.
- CrushThemTorg, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I think it turns into a microscope or a boombox or something.
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2This is intended to be a recon plane. "The robo-platform comes equipped with day/night electro-optic sensors, laser-target designators, and advanced synthetic aperture radar." You put a small UAV up in the air, have it find the enemy using it's various sensors, then you laser-target designate it. Then you can bring in the big shots, carrying heavy munitions, and use the laser designation to blow what ever it is you want up.
For attack UAVs, there's the reaper, which the UK is also purchasing. - Dragonspawn, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3No, its from the UK, it looks like an aeroplane :p
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1This is semi-true. The planes that hit the WTC were Un"Manned". Instead, one was piloted by one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Races_in_Farscape#Pil ...
The other with one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylon_Basestar_%28rei ... - ASSASSYN360, on 05/11/2008, -1/+2I love UAV. But UCAV`s PWn.
- co4e, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3We are losing another word from the English lexicon. These vehicles are "unmanned". Autonomous means self-directed, or no external control. An autonomous weapon would require only permission to engage, and it would know when to ask for it.
- webwulf, on 05/11/2008, -2/+5There is no weapons rack on this UAV, so no, you can't put missiles on it yet.
- wwwdot1jesdotus, on 05/11/2008, -2/+3Yeah yeah, I know.
- EserVerx, on 05/11/2008, -3/+4Looks somewhat phalic.
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1A. None of the Israeli units use guns.
B. I was pretty sure setting up a rocket in the middle of a school, putting it on a timer, so it fires into an Israeli town, and then running away was the cowards way.
C. How is the corner shot any different than a sniper hidden inside a building? Engaging battle when you have no cover or shelter doesn't make you brave, it makes you stupid. - dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1* A. None of the Israeli units use those guns.
- dkapuchino, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1Here's one thing you can do with an unarmed drone:
"Israeli drone films Palestinians faking funeral in Jenin"
http://www.israelinsider.com/channels/diplomacy/ar ...
I'm pretty sure showing the world the true faces of the Palestinians and exposing their lies to the media was well worth the investment. - co4e, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I wonder what comes after computers.
- nicorobins, on 02/23/2009, -0/+1is that true??

http://www.dizikom.com - supermanred, on 05/11/2008, -2/+3And with names like Predator and Reaper carrying Hellfire missles we all know you guys in the US are the good guys.
- venuspcs, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1I have never swallowed the official story about 9/11 but ya know that thought never crossed my mind......I can't see it being the case, at least not just UAV's but who knows anything anymore?
- co4e, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2An unarmed UAV is an emasculated waste of resources.
Autonomous is (was) well defined. As you clearly point out and as was my point, it means now what ever the user wants it to mean.
For posterity here is what the word used to mean.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/autonomous
+++++
Another example is the use of the expression "soft-science". - supermanred, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3...and guns that fire around corners. basically, the world leader in coward's weapons.
- dkapuchino, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1Weapons change the aerodynamics of an aircraft. It's not at all that simple. Unless you want to start dropping marbles of the drone, counting on gravity to do it's job.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1Probably like I did. Just hit FF. That movie was horrible.
- gbudavid, on 05/11/2008, -8/+10Cool Too Bad it is "Unarmed"
