Photos from 1st Gay Marriage in CA in Beverly Hills
laist.com — The 2 women who challenged CA's law denying same-sex couples the right to marry that ultimately led to the state's Supreme Court ruling, were one of the first to receive a marriage cert. in the state yesterday. Diane Olson & Robin Tyler have attempted to marry at the Beverly Hills courthouse for the past 8 years, each time being denied

- lajaw, on 06/17/2008, -15/+4At least the children they have will have both a mother and father. Oh, wait! Two deviants can't have children naturally.
- PrintScrn12, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5Many couples can't or don't have kids naturally.
- tincanorange, on 06/17/2008, -2/+1This is so huge. Now the focus will be the November election when Californians vote to change the California constitution to either ban or keep same sex marriages.
- pookmunny, on 06/17/2008, -1/+11In 1969 when I was born - I was part of a generation of the most adopted children in one year by percentage to the population. I think there are plenty of children who were 'born naturally' and then adopted by a family who had a huge desire to have a child, straight, gay or multi-racial. There were also plenty more children born 'naturally' to a horrible upbringing and neglect and abuse. I enjoyed a robust childhood filled with love and support from a single mother. So I don't think the 'natural' birth automatically entitles a child to the best possible childhood. I don't think taking a jab at 'deviants' really makes a dent in the argument for a nuclear family. I guess your comment started out being positive-then took a low-brow shot at 2 people who are enjoying something that's been a no-no for too long.
Say what you will, but us 'straight' folk have no business using the deviant card on homosexual marriage. Since its no longer 'illegal', its now 'accepted' behavior - at least in CA and a few other states, so doesn't that negate the term 'deviant'?.
Here's to tolerance. It doesn't mean you have to like it - just accept it.
Much love,

- foxhaze, on 06/18/2008, -1/+5The whole world just got a bit more gay.
(This comment can be taken positively or negatively, depending on how much of a homophobe you are) - EatingPie, on 06/18/2008, -9/+1First LEGAL Gay Marriage! I attended a gay marriage ceremony about 10 years ago, between my cousin and her girlfriend. It was personally meaningful to them, though it was not recognized by the state.
That said, I do not care for the use of the term "tolerance." I believe true tolerance is about loving someone, and knowing that their choices are ultimately theirs. AND, I also believe tolerance can involve telling someone you love that they're doing something wrong, as long as it is in love -- and most decidedly NOT a political thing (ie Conservatives being against gay marriage vs. Liberals being for it).
I did not agree with the gay marriage I attended, and took the time to talk to my cousin and her girlfriend about it beforehand. They listened, I listened, we disagreed, but they knew I cared about them, and I went to their wedding. Had I not gone after speaking to them, I believe that a sense of love would have been compromised. I didn't want that to happen since love, to me, is what matters most.
I have more "political" comments I may make in a latter post.

- orientis, on 06/18/2008, -2/+2I don't care why you're against homophobia, or how exactly you approach meddling in your family's lives. It's enough that you have enough self-righteousness and self-delusion that you actually think what two consenting adults do with each other has anything to do with you. I don't agree with tolerance either. Tolerance is an uneasy tension, it is not acceptance, it is a recognition of adversity.
Our fundamental rights should be obvious. You shouldn't be able to tell me what to do or ***** with my life and vice versa. Walk your own path and stop trimming my hedges.- orientis, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2ugh. against homosexuality, not phobia. I sat here and watched that 5 mins tick down too.
- EatingPie, on 06/19/2008, -2/+2orientis: "I don't care why you're against homosexuality, or how exactly you approach meddling in your family's lives."
So talking to family members about what they do -- what choices they make in life -- is "meddling" or "***** with their lives"? When they ultimately get to make the choice for themselves?

Yeap, this will make the front page... - kingbling169, on 06/18/2008, -7/+0I only support gay marriage if it's two women and their hot.
- lydecker, on 06/18/2008, -1/+2If they are two hot women, that's the only case I wouldn't support gay marriage. So I could hold out hope for me.
Forgive me, I'm still jealous that Ellen's marrying Portia de Rossi.

I'm really happy for them :) Some of those pictures were incredibly touching, but the one of the protesters made me feel very ashamed of my religion. :(- Joshuarr, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1If you wanna pursue that feeling of shame, read a history book sometime.
- Cate320, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Of course, but one would hope that people could grow beyond that. I guess not.
- jonnyuoit, on 06/18/2008, -2/+1Looks like the couple were enjoying the media attention thoroughly
