- galiean251, on 05/09/2008, -17/+211The officers crossed the line, but it might at least put it in perspective what happened immediately beforehand: a Philly police narcotics team witnessed the vehicle stop at 4th and Annsbury St. in Feltonville (rough part of Philly) and four men get out with one shooting three people who were at the intersection. The shooter fled on foot and the remaining three got back into the vehicle where they were stopped by police and the video takes place.
The officers crossed the line big time (I can't say that enough), but then again they are pretty much raw after having one of their own executed in cold blood by a street thug and these guys basically shot up a corner a few minutes before this. Philly is a warzone at this point and I'm amazed that we haven't seen more of this as the officers out there are pushed to the breaking point by street violence.
Here's more details from the Philadelphia Inquirer: http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/200805 ... - dumbasshit, on 05/09/2008, -3/+108Dugg for the insane cop that runs up and kicks the car in the ***** license plate.
- inactive, on 05/09/2008, -12/+81Those of you who are trying to justify these actions need to realize something very elementary...
They're police officers, their duty is to UPHOLD the law. By breaking the law ( which is what they're doing. ) they are lowering themselves to that of which they are arresting. - freediverx, on 05/09/2008, -4/+62Perhaps, but it's pretty obvious that there are too many bad ones allowed to keep their jobs after repeated complaints from the public. How about adopting a ZERO tolerance policy against any cops caught abusing their authority? It's about time that those ***** get SERIOUS punishments and/or get fired for breaking the same laws they are supposed to enforce. And what's up with people getting harassed, arrested or threatened with arrest for photographing or taking video of cops in action. Any attempt to suppress citizens from recording incidents in public places should be a crime in itself.
- regularsteven, on 05/09/2008, -10/+67how often does this happen without cameras recording? there must be some 'odds of camera recording' calculation...
- positron, on 05/09/2008, -6/+62No. There are bad cops and there are cops who ignore or even support bad cops in the name of solidarity.
- Innisskillin, on 05/09/2008, -21/+74That's what happens when you try and hold up a Dunkin' Donuts.
- Jan33, on 05/09/2008, -4/+45I nearly got my face smashed by plainclothes philly cops in an unmarked car once, they nearly ran over my foot as i was crossing the street at a greenlit pedestrian crossing and I called "ey watch it!". No joke.
Well okay , I may have said "ey watch it, *****!" But still. ***** took me in cuffed and went gestapo. Didnt even read me any rights. - Phyltre, on 05/09/2008, -3/+36That's all the average person has, really. In what situation is police response time quick enough to stop a theft, burglary, mugging, or most any other violent crime before it happens?
- MonkeyNews, on 05/09/2008, -6/+36Unbelievable - I'm shocked my the casualness of it all. Like one cop can running over and just started kicking whoever was on the ground next to the other 4 cops, while the others went ***** at the passenger.
I really want to play some GTA4 now. - jmhyer51, on 05/09/2008, -11/+41You know, when I walking through Liberty City the other day, I happened to spot a cop that was abusing his power.
I shot him. - sodade, on 05/09/2008, -3/+33Eliminate drug war laws, have 1/2 the cops, paid 2-3x as much and keep them under surveillance 100% of the time that they are on duty. Boyscouts get raises, douchebags get pink slips. Suddenly, cops become heroes again.
- Falldog, on 05/09/2008, -6/+34I agree that it is very important to understand the root of these officers actions. Not as a means of justifying them, but as a way to better prepare for and handle aspects of how police react under these situations.
- DarthShaun, on 05/09/2008, -7/+35I fought the law and the law won!
- inactive, on 05/09/2008, -69/+96There are good cops and there are bad cops. Most of the cops that I know are good cops.
- HayString, on 05/09/2008, -1/+27"... after they were pulled out of a car during a traffic stop."
Looked more like the end of a police chase to me. - RedHerringHack, on 05/09/2008, -4/+26Yeah it's a corrupt brotherhood. Not a real set of balls among them. If there was, and someone did the right thing and reported one of their fellow brothers, that would be the end of the whistle-blowers career.
- freediverx, on 05/09/2008, -11/+32That excuse wouldn't help you if you did the same thing. Cops should held to an even higher standard than the rest of us, rather than being considered above the law they were hired to enforce. Way too many thugs are drawn to this profession.
- Apocrypha, on 05/09/2008, -7/+26Cops shouldn't be allowed to gather in Philly I guess. They obviously can't control themselves so their right of assembly should be taken from them. This looks a lot like a roving gang of yutes looking for someone to beat up. When the ***** will cops realize there are ***** cameras EVERYWHERE and that it is far better to be respected by the populace than hated?
- stockgotti, on 05/09/2008, -3/+22It makes me want to throw up every time the media attempts to draw a distinction between cops and civilians. Cops are civilians too. They're not military. We're all just being conditioned to accept that they are.
- cbartlett, on 05/09/2008, -7/+25Why is it important to understand the roots of the actions? Does a cop give a ***** when you tell him you really had to take a piss and that's why you were speeding?
- chuckDontSurf, on 05/09/2008, -19/+36You're right. Let's just get rid of all police, give everyone a gun, and let them fend for themselves.
- inactive, on 05/09/2008, -43/+60There are NO good cops, because if there were... they would publicly denounce these scumbags.
- toastmonster, on 05/09/2008, -0/+17The first thing I thought was holy *****, what did those guys do? Guess that answers that.

- chantron, on 05/09/2008, -5/+21Tough situation. Cops went a little overboard. Suspects probably deserved it. You love the fact that these scumbag criminals are getting the ***** beat out of them but you hate the fact that its ***** cops breaking laws and doing it.
This is why we need a Batman. We need someone to live in that gray area between right and wrong. - inactive, on 05/09/2008, -0/+15Expired Tag gets a ass kicking!
- blake711, on 05/09/2008, -7/+20Sounds good to me. When cops aren't shotting 50 holes into a guy on his weeding day or beating the crap out of some guys. They show up long after they are needed and do 2 things. Make chalk outlines and take a report. I highly suggest you arm yourself with a gun and knowledge of how to use it. More than likely when you need a cop they won't be around.
- Wakkyweed, on 05/09/2008, -0/+13Try bringing up a case like that without iron-clad photographic evidence and see how far you get. The cops protect their own, and the District Attorneys office will back them as well.
- curunir, on 05/09/2008, -7/+20"There are good cops and there are bad cops. Most of the cops that I know are good cops."
That may be, but those bad ones are really giving the other 2% a bad reputation. - mnemy, on 05/09/2008, -41/+53***** thugs. The only difference between them and the people they arrest is they have a badge
- konsole1981, on 05/09/2008, -2/+14Philly cops are awesome! One of my friends got into a heated exchange with a cabbie that had a broken card swipe in the cab and the officer that arrived started choking him against the cab and looking at me yelling "You want some of this?" It was pretty classy, I have to admit. I told him I would settle for the nearest ATM.
- inactive, on 05/09/2008, -1/+13Chris Rock: "If the police have to chase you down, they are brining an ass kicking with them."
- staticneuron, on 05/09/2008, -5/+17I understand their actions...... these guys are scumbags. But that doesn't make them being beaten while handcuffed acceptable. maybe if they had gotten into a gunfight and the baddies were offed......
- ubuwalker31, on 05/09/2008, -6/+18Did we watch the same video? The suspects were dragged out of the car, then subdued, and then kicked violently. If the suspect was actually seriously resisting, the dog handler would have let the dog off the leash or the cops would have shot them or tasered them. There is no question in my mind that the suspects were resisting initially...however, the police clearly...clearly used excessive force here. It was like a mob action. Totally inappropriate. The cops should be suspended from the force and terminated permanently and face criminal sanctions.
- ProfessorSYM, on 05/09/2008, -9/+21I don't think anyone really believes the guys who were beaten were just randomly picked out of a car, but I'm sick of this kind of statement being made any time a cop steps over the line "Well guys, the cops were wrong BUT...[insert allegation against the beating victim here]"
In some cases (in which the assailant is armed and/or actually tried to kill a cop), this is a justified position to take. In this specific case, however, I don't care if all three of those guys shot a person each; in America we don't serve justice like a gang of schoolyard thugs. That is what separates us from third world countries who use their police forces as bully brigades. - johnmatias, on 05/09/2008, -1/+12I suppose your some sort of idiot?
- 4rp4n3t, on 05/09/2008, -0/+11That's right. Any cop with half a brain would wait until they got them back to the station before giving them a kicking.
- itstodd, on 05/09/2008, -8/+18...and I am continually caught on video repeatedly not giving a ***** about police kicking suspects. If your going to do stupid ***** that makes the cops want to kick you, then guess what? They probably will...
- Kauzman01, on 05/09/2008, -0/+10I'm more concerned about the people the police are "shotting" on their "weeding day." As a former landscaper who does not drink, let alone on the job, this is quite disturbing to me.
- Apocrypha, on 05/09/2008, -2/+12BINGO!
- TommyBoy919, on 05/09/2008, -1/+11This is the most intelligent post here so far. Kudos for the use of actual logic.
- stephaniegrace, on 05/09/2008, -3/+13I live in this city and although I've seen Philadelphia's finest abuse their power more than a few times (RNC 2000), I respect them for the job they do in a town that is basically, at this point, a war zone.
As much as you want to bitch about them, would you do their job? Would you want to deal with these thug douche bags on a daily basis? I know I wouldn't. 3 officers have been shot dead in the last 24 months alone....and the starting salary: $38K.
Granted, not an excuse for the brutality, but because I know just how dangerous this city is and the circumstances surrounding this particular incident...It's (gulp) partially understandable. - SuperVepr308, on 05/09/2008, -4/+14Exactly. Get a weapon, learn to use it and be safe. That's all anyone has to do.
- Nhoji, on 05/09/2008, -0/+10i went back to check this out. thats hilarious.
- cvindustries, on 05/09/2008, -0/+10And does your occupation have fatality rate similar to a Philadelphia police officer? Things are rough in this town right now.
- Dundasbro, on 05/09/2008, -1/+11Actually, that excuse probably would help you if you did the same thing. Emotional distress or something similiar counts as a partial defense in court, and severe types can count as full defenses.
- brstilson, on 05/09/2008, -0/+9No wonder Will Smith's mom sent him to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.
- Ghstfce, on 05/09/2008, -2/+10Wow, what an awesome generalization you have made. I happen to BE from Philly, and it's the same in any city. Largely growing population is cause to have to hire more police officers. More police officers usually includes having to lower the bar in what is accepted and what is not. Sadly in order to achieve the numbers that Mayor Street when he was in office wanted, they had to loosen the reigns and become lax on their selection process. But this happens in any town in America. Hell, watch videos of police chases in other countries, they end up a lot worse.
