Philly hands Scouts $199,999 annual penalty over 'gay' issue
worldnetdaily.com — Prompted by opposition to the Boy Scouts' rule disqualifying homosexuals as troop leaders, Philadelphia has forced the city's local chapter to pay fair-market rent of $200,000 a year for its city-owned headquarters.

- wswyatt, on 10/23/2007, -0/+12I think every Christian in Philadelphia should be up in arms over this one. Just because Gay people want to be gay, doesn't mean that the clubs that were established long before the gay rights movement started should be punished because they are moral and upright in the eyes of GOD. The gays need to know that God looks on them as "an abomination". Boy, would I hate to be in their shoes when they stand before HIM. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of what the people were doing in those cities--it was abominable to GOD--HE destroyed it. Philadelphia, look out.
- KerouacCat, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4Wswyatt, haven't you noticed? Most who claim to be 'christians' are totally unaware and unconcerned about this nation's moral whirlpool. Not 1 out of 100 'christians' who attended church today will ever make a phone call, send an email or do anything to help persecuted Christians around the world--not to mention doing anything locally. Lukewarm and cold.

Your estimate may be a little off:-(
Ecclesiastes 7:28a – “While I was still searching but not finding— I found one upright man among a thousand,”
Well, I thank the Lord every day that I found one of these:-)
Ecclesiastes 7:28b – “but not one upright woman among them all.”

- mcrunch2, on 10/23/2007, -0/+10Its too bad the people of Philadelphia don't rise up. The boy scouts today, who knows what group tomorrow. Its really sick that the old-time media ran hate article and after hate article on the Catholic Church for their homosexual priest scandal, yet they are willingly abetting, along with the Philadelphia government, the basis for a new scandal in the boy scouts.
- watnext, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6If it is to their advantage, they exploit the subject in every way possible. If it not in their interests the liberal MSM and cohorts forget it happened. A group of GOD loving kids are up against Satan and his huge organization within our USA. If the end isn't near----it should be as GOD is getting kicked around more then a football in the fall.
- janknepper, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6The Boy Scouts' - Gay (Homosexual) Discrimination is yet an other thing taken completely out of proportions and thanks to the ACLU the situation only seems to get worse. Obviously the ACLU is only around when you do not want them and is not when you need them.
Besides from that... Discrimination/Discriminant originally means something like "ignoring" or "acting like it is not there". In the case of the Boy Scouts' - gay/homosexual issue, the situation is far from "ignoring" or "acting like they are not there". Actually, it is more like giving this very small part of the population (smaller than 1%!) a preferred treatment and warning them from getting in trouble even better preventing them from the very obvious path to serious legal trouble. If anything this is not discrimination, this is preferred treatment! After all, they are not being treated like they are not there! It is the reverse, they are being treated because they very obviously are around!
Heck, the truth is, many people have no idea how the gay/homosexual receive preferred treatment more than the general public. They are warned, helped and encouraged where many of us have to make much more of a effort to receive equal treatment.
Needless to say, Philadelphia does not understand the picture either and it would be good if the Christians would rise to the bar and let Philadelphia know that they just turned a bit more to the direction of Sodom and Gomorrah with this decision.- john1944, on 10/21/2007, -0/+0The ACLU is a group of assholes that need to be run out of town on their own stupidity. Traitorous mother *****
- 1Freeman, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6I have been tolerant of the homosexuals to this point. "Harm no one and I'll let it go" I said. "Hate the sin, love the sinner" sprang from my lips. "Maybe one day they will be saved and repent" I thought. Well, now they are harming little boy scouts. Look out *****. Now I am intolerant and will work in my local area to shed light on your sickness and insure your rights are limited JUST LIKE YOUR KIND IS LIMITING THE RIGHTS OF LITTLE BOYS !
- lynn4321, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6The sickos are running the asylum.
- LifeguardMom, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11Once again, the rights of 2% of the population are more important than the other 98%. Everyday, the prophesies in the Bible are becoming more and more evident. Romans chapter 1 says that people will be given over to a depraved mind. Anyone who would penalize the Boy Scouts like this is depraved. The Boy Scouts have done more to bring up decent, moral, productive young men in this country than the homosexual community ever will. Shame on the city of Philadelphia. Residents in this city need to rise up, call their local government officials and inundate them with emails, phone calls and petitions and let them know that they aren't going to take this intolerance anymore. It seems that tolerance in this country only pertains to homosexuals and liberals. Christians and conservatives need not apply. Our country is going to hell in a hand basket!
- mindy624, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11The churches and synagogues need to open their facilities to the scouts.
So many boys out there need the scouts.
My husband is a group leader, and so many of the boys
in his group come from fatherless homes...this is really one of the few
organizations they can find a good father figure.
As far as gays go...we have to pray for them.
they are so self destructive, they do not see the truth.
Getting angry at them is useless. They really are so spiritually darkened and blind they can't see how destructive it is to promote such an unhealthy lifestyle.
Crack addicts have a higher life expectancy then gays.

Even lesbians live shorter lives then heterosexuals and have a life expectancy similar to alcoholics.

Drugs addicts and alcoholics have an advantage tho'...they KNOW they are sick.
Mindy- victorypup, on 10/22/2007, -2/+0Churches opening their facilities to Scouts would be good. Give the devil his dues.

- nutz2u2, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5I'll bet that the Scouts can find a good alternate site for a headquarters if they'll look around. A place which won't try to charge them an arm and a leg for being "straight". The Scouts wouldn't do it, but I can: "Go to hell, Philly".
- watnext, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2"The City Of Brotherly Love" now gets a new meaning. I know there are many good folks in Philly and now it's their turn at bat if they choose to be in the ballpark. I think though that most American Legion, VFW or KWVA posts would adopt them readily by offering a home, moral support and possibly some funding. The Veterans of this country are fed up with this kind of crap. True, I can only speak about those I am involved with but my bet is others follow suit.
- tinylady1, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7You would think with all the murders going on in that city that they would want an organization like the boys scouts.
Philadelphia has now become Filthadelphia and instead of the city of brotherly love it has become the city of brotherly shove.
The lunatics are running the asylum. - DrReaper, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7Lawmakers are pushing homosexual issues all over the country. This isn't new its a crusade. It will never end until the voters wake up and stop the loonies. I am not sure how you would even go about stoping them.
- Xuvious, on 10/23/2007, -0/+8All religious issues aside, this is an affront to the Scout's 1st Amendment Right to assemble with who ever they please. The government has no authority to tell anyone who they must associate with and who they can not associate with.
- Hortnon, on 10/21/2007, -3/+1And the government can charge whatever they want for rent, too. Your point?
- victorypup, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3What ever they want for rent will need to apply to the next fag fest as well. The government derives it's funds from the governed. Your point is?
- Hortnon, on 10/27/2007, -2/+1And there you have it. Gee, you're all about fairness for everyone, including the so-called 'fag fests', right?
- LuaPron, on 10/22/2007, -0/+5I am of the opinion that if the government is to increase the rent on them, it should be because the government was giving them a special deal not available to other private organizations. It should not be not because the particular private non-profit organization happened to discriminate against gays. Since this was not even an issue until after the activists brought it up, the penalty is clearly a direct response to the gay issue. That considered, the claim can easily be made that the city council is attempting to encroach on the first amendment rights of the scouts.
I don't think anyone should get special favors for the usage of public land, because doing so can easily lead to institutionalized abuses of first amendment rights - they might now favor the scouts and discriminate against some white supremacist group. While the majority of people may agree with such an arrangement now, things may swing the other way in the future.
Taking special favors from the government can also be bad for the organizations that do so. When you become dependent on government to provide some service or resource to you at little or no cost, the health of your organization can become subject to the whims of the government or a popular vote.- Hortnon, on 10/22/2007, -3/+1I don't think the First Amendment applies here. Why? All the Boy Scouts, or anyone else, has to do, is pay the rent. They're not being outright kicked out.
The Boy Scouts are free to move their meetings to someone's garage, or basement.- LuaPron, on 10/27/2007, -0/+6Yes it does. The city council didn't seem to have a problem with them until they decided that something the scouts believed was offensive. The city is penalizing the scouts because the scouts discriminate against gays, not because the city suddenly wanted a fair market price for the land. If the scouts had folded and compromised their own beliefs, the city would not be increasing their rent on them.
They should have the same policy for everyone that wants to use public land, not a different policy for one group or another based on the beliefs of the organization.

- harveyglick, on 10/23/2007, -0/+8Just look at the photos of the Folsom Street Fair in San Fagcisco and see what the fairies have in mind for the Boy Scouts if they had their way.
- victorypup, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5It all boils down to the fact, that communities like Filthydelfia have not been subject to a true Christian influence for far to long. Christians response to this behavior should be automatic and overwhelming. The Sodomites, even if their numbers were 2 or 3 percent of the population could not overcome the majority, unless the majority consent to it. If all across America, the so called Church would repent of it's own tolerance for perversion, and set it's face in prayer until God sends a flood, fire, or what ever it takes to turn this Sin Soaked Nation around, this wouldn't be happening. One of the major problems presently, is there is no Clarification on what God Hates, as apposed to what He Loves. Those who dare stand up and say, "hey, God Hates Sin", are scorned by the false church system until they no longer sound the alarm.
- these3remain, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Exactly. The false church system has become so seeker-friendly and so ashamed of the gospel, that the message of sin, repentance and salvation is not clearly proclaimed. It might "offend" someone to have their sin called sin. And since most believers are not living Godly lives, they cannot and will not exercise any type of church discipline - a Biblical mandate that has not only been forgotten but not even taught by the pastors who know about it.
- sphira, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1It comes down to money as usual. Church as everything else is now a business. Expand the flock, expand the dough. That has become the first order. Salvation and other core reasons for the word of God are almost an afterthought.

- gmarie624, on 10/23/2007, -0/+8Is there a lawyer in the house? I thought "in perpetuity" meant forever. Must be grounds for a lawsuit somewhere...
- Xuvious, on 10/22/2007, -0/+5perpetuity;
1. the state or character of being perpetual (often prec. by in): to desire happiness in perpetuity.
2. endless or indefinitely long duration or existence; eternity.
3. something that is perpetual.
4. an annuity paid for life.
5. Law. an interest under which property is less than completely alienable for longer than the law allows.

- KerouacCat, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA IS SANCTIONING PEDOPHILIA through this illegal action and those in that city's government who are punishing the Boy Scouts should be tried as PEDOPHILIA ACCOMPLICES. There is no other reason why the city would punish the Scouts other than to promote a PRO-QUEER AGENDA AGAINST CHILDREN. LYNN ABRAHAM, a lesbian district attorney and a member of the Christ-hating gang at the ADL (which also pushes pro-queer agendas including the 'hate' crime bill), brought an avalanche of curses upon Philadelphia a few years ago when she personally prosecuted 11 Christians for telling homosexuals about Jesus at a gay pride parade that the city sanctioned. The Christians ('The Philadelphia 11') eventually were absolved from these nazi-like false charges, but since then the murder rate in Philly has zoomed skyward. Crime is so bad in that city that just a week ago, the city was asking for "10,000 black men" to patrol and take back the streets but of course it's too late. (I believe that the city also became the 'murder capital' of the US for a while.) And now the city is punishing the Scouts because they don't want homosexuals in their ranks? Sadly, there are already scores of homosexuals prowling inside the Scouts. Frankly, I don't know why any parent would allow their boy to join a group where their chances of molestation by a homosexual are so high.
- kindwarrior, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2The Boy Scouts will survive this and I can't think of legitimate way to fight it; I think the community should make sure they have another place to go and/or find a way to rest ownership of the property from the city (it seems to me the easements law in Pennsylvania would be applicable but I'm not a lawyer).
As kind of a footnote because this is a Philadelphia story: The term you really want is Pederast not Pedophile (it is probably too late to correct this widespread misuse of the language, but it creates a vacuum and cognitive blind spot). Pedophile and Philadelphia both come from the Latin root philein ‘to love’ but as in pay attention and give succor to ("brotherly love" sort of but more accurately a word for the connection you feel to those things that are important to you). Pederast from the latin eros (sexual desire) is the appropriate term for those who desire to have sex with children. It always grates on me because the world needs Pedophiles (by the true definition) or we get Pederasts.- watnext, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Peter, Peder or Pooper, I don't know but whatever those against the Boy Scouts are shows a bad day ahead for Americans.

- todayonly, on 10/27/2007, -0/+0Surely some one or some group will pony up the bucks. How about Dr. Dobson, Phyllis Schlafly, Concerned Women for America, etc? They've probably already written checks to cover this. Christian charity, put your money where your mouth is, etc. Don't hold your breath and wait for that to happen, like most all of the right-wing Evangelical Talebangelists they talk a good one, but won't back it up. Or you all could write big, fat checks yourselves.
- victorypup, on 10/27/2007, -0/+0You fight this sort of thing every way you can. First on the list of course is to Pray for God's Wisdom, and for God's Divine Judgment against this evil. In Practical terms, De fund the city. Boy cot, vote down Levy's, Bonds, and all money issues pertaining to city operation. Make it a campaign complete with posters and advertisement so the perverts know what is happening to them. Vote out the scum responsible. The problem is there is no base for such a crusade, the so called Church is content to throw their children to the wolf just to keep their prosperity charade in play.
- katycoog, on 10/28/2007, -0/+0The problem is that the Church no longer acts. It has no power to do anything other than whine and gripe. The Church should already be along side the BSA, however, since it is the Church who is condoning the breaking of bread and wine with gays do you really think that they would stand on the right side or the left/death?
