- Picer, on 03/28/2008, -4/+47The fact that there is no inventory is worrying.
- fuhcough, on 03/28/2008, -0/+14There is an inventory that's conducted regularly. The problem is that believe it or not, it's usually by young guys who are used to counting the same number of nukes month after month, year after year. I agree it's no excuse for complacency, but that's exactly what happens. This most recent inventory is being done because the public expects it to be done. Expect them to say "all is well - everything is accounted for... um.. well except of course for those fuses".
- yojiffyskippy, on 03/28/2008, -3/+3Yet another way for the government to waste money to give Joe-USA a false sense of warm and fuzziness. Joe-USA won't be any safer after the inventory but it will cost millions (if not billions) to do this little inventory exercise.
- JoeyDeacon, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Why? Surely you just need a monkey that can count?
- gbro, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Those are quite expensive when combined with KBR's monkey service plan.
- TheSabre, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1But you also need a monkey that has access to nuclear weapons. You can't hire an entry level kid to count nukes unless you want him near your nukes. They'll have to have someone with proper clearances, so it will be expensive for them to spend the time to do it.

- laughandsing, on 03/28/2008, -1/+7Inventory does not imply that there is none. It means he wants an inventory done again. durhh..
- bearsandbulls, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Wouldn't really be news then would it?
- dumpyhumpy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2You think that this would be the kinda of thing they would do regularly, wouldn't you?
- fuhcough, on 03/28/2008, -0/+14There is an inventory that's conducted regularly. - JimSwarthow, on 03/28/2008, -2/+4reminds me of the story the other day where everyone made such a big deal about France taking their inventory down to 300. great! now they can only blow the world up 8x over! woot! woot!
- 1randomguyO8, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Yeah good point. It just makes it cheaper and safer for them to store.
- TheWhiteOtter, on 03/28/2008, -4/+5Accidentaly ah? I notice that nothing like this is ever accidentaly shipped to North Korea or Iran... I think perhaps they take more care with shipping things to them guys ah?
- pintomp3, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10it would be a pretty brilliant strategy. "accidentally" ship parts to iran, then invade them for obtaining parts to make WMDs. no need for aluminum tubes or yellow cake.
- Hangly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Someone packed the fuses in a box marked "chicken feet."
- thefloss, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6Great. Lost in a country renowned for cheap replicas.
- Deputy_Doodah, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3I think that was the whole idea.
Taiwan is a sovereign nation. China needs to grow up and get over it.
Too bad we feel the need to sneak around in order to support Taiwan.- Hangly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4I'm not sure every Taiwanese person would agree Taiwan is a "sovereign nation."
- Deputy_Doodah, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Yeah.
Some Taiwanese need to get over the fact that they are not China as well.
The problem with both countries is that they're full of hard-headed Chinese who are so wrapped up in the concept of "saving face". I've done business in both countries and that's the hardest cultural aspect to deal with. It means that no one will ever admit that they were wrong. - elscorcho717, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3If they're both filled with hard-headed Chinese what makes them so different then?
- Deputy_Doodah, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Yeah.
- Hangly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4I'm not sure every Taiwanese person would agree Taiwan is a "sovereign nation."
- Deputy_Doodah, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3I think that was the whole idea.
- nuketrap, on 03/28/2008, -6/+6First the B-52 bomber incident last year and now this. How the hell can you "lose" NUCLEAR WARHEAD fuses, only a few countries have them.
- NoCt1, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Doesnt mean that you cant lose them even if its a few countries that have them.
- fillourenco, on 03/28/2008, -5/+18how the hell is there no active inventory system that is updated and checked constantly. The fact that i can't carry a bottle of water onto a plane becuase of terrorism but the government can not take care of their nuclear weapons inventory properly is *****!
- NoCt1, on 03/28/2008, -0/+7There is an inventory that is checked... And you think you can just walk in and pick up a nuke. No, There is a ton of security before you get to them. Even then you need like 4 people to scan and swip their cards passwords etc before you can get to it. It is safe and secure. But these are fuses not nukes them selves.
- JoeyDeacon, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Are we just talking about 4 pieces of burning string?
- sonofblacula, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1They'e a LITTLE more complex than that.
- JoeyDeacon, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Are we just talking about 4 pieces of burning string?

- TimDigg, on 03/28/2008, -4/+8and that's why you don't hire family friends to run the pentagon....
All you have to do is watch "Bush's War" and it will clearly show why Gates was hired....someone who will just "go along" with the plan- fuzzmeister, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3When you look at Gates's record, he has opposed the Bush administration, and pushed for changes, far more than Rumsfeld ever did. There is actually good reason to think that the Bush administration didn't know what it was getting when they appointed Gates.
- Hangly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Hey, Gates is doing a heckuvajob!
- DharmaTurtle, on 03/28/2008, -2/+7Two years later. It was lost in 2006, and in 2008 we're demanding inventory.
Lol, government.- yojiffyskippy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1It probably took China two years to come up with a plan to make us do an inventory so their moles can steal all the data from one place.
- buddamus, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Wacky Bush, when will you learn that you can't run a country to save your life
- tlafever, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10They can't keep track of fuses for Nukes but they can sure keep track of narcotics being prescribed! It's also amazing that this stuff isn't inventoried on a monthly basis. I'm in the Army and we inventory junk we will never use almost on a regular basis.
- yojiffyskippy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2I'm sure there is a routine inventory. This one is just for show. It adds no value to the process and is just a waste of time so that the public can get a warm and fuzzy feeling.
- o0joshua0o, on 03/28/2008, -6/+7They are overreacting. Is it really necessary to know where every single one of our nuclear weapons is? Everyone misplaces things now and then. It's no big deal.
- Ajnag, on 03/28/2008, -5/+9Nuclear Fuses....much like the aluminum tubes that Saddam supposedly was trying to buy back in the day...
Makes me wonder if we were trying to secretly sell the fuses and accuse the buying country of wanting to build WMD's.- willskillz, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3I think that's exactly whats happening. So, now there's one missing warhead (Minot AFB) and some mis-shipped fuses out there somewhere?
- pintomp3, on 03/28/2008, -5/+30the US cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons. we must invade and bring them freedom.
- justananomaly, on 03/28/2008, -5/+2You're already live in NY, so who is this "we"?
- pintomp3, on 03/28/2008, -1/+8people who get the joke.
- Buelldozer, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2I invite you to try. :)
- justananomaly, on 03/28/2008, -3/+1His profile says he lives in NY, how can he invade a country he is already in? o.0
- justananomaly, on 03/28/2008, -5/+2You're already live in NY, so who is this "we"?
- jake8689, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6didn't we say we were prepared to defend Taiwan if China invades
- indybluff, on 03/28/2008, -2/+0Just like the north INVADED the south around 150 years ago? why britans or frencs were not prepared to defend the south at that time?
- flazz, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2RIGHT! this was no accident, the story is fluff - saving face in front of China. Taiwan has a hard time acquiring military arms because China wants the rest of the world to think she doesn't exist as a nation. These were bought and paid for by Taiwan.
- weitek, on 03/28/2008, -1/+4They are just establishing plausible deniability. Just wait and see.
- evilregis, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp? ...
22 March 2008 - RIYADH - The Saudi Shura council will secretly discuss national plans to deal with any sudden nuclear and radioactive hazards that may affect the kingdom following experts’ warnings of possible attacks on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactors, media reports said Saturday.
...after a visit from Dick Cheney, Saudia Arabia starts to consider what to do in the case of some "sudden nuclear and radioactive hazards".
Whatever final number they come up with, I wonder how many will be subtracted for use on Iran? - fivex, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Dugg for "lackadaisical"
- Chairboy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+21From the otherwise forgettable 1996 movie 'Broken Arrow':
Giles Prentice: "I don't know what's scarier, losing a nuclear weapon or that it happens so often there's actually a term for it." - CTRaider, on 03/28/2008, -2/+9So we "accidentally" shipped nuclear fuses to South Korea (a diplomatic friend of ours). Strange how something like that could happen when we are having trouble with North Korea and the Chinese. Or maybe those quotes I put around that word belong there.
- philz, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Dude, it's Taiwan, not South Korea.
- TheSabre, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1How dare you cite facts! Bury!
- CTRaider, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Ah, an insightful comment to a reply that has nothing to say about what I meant. Good job.
- CTRaider, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Oops, ya got me. So now what do u think about what I meant?
- philz, on 03/29/2008, -0/+0Well, shipping stuff like that to Taiwan is a whole other story. It's like when China would ship nuke stuff (fuses) to Venezuela or Cuba (hey, history repeats). China thinks they own Taiwan, so if another super power (the super power?), ships stuff like that to that island, I'd be ***** too, if I were China :-) (well ok, yeah, they're always ***** if somebody does some military thing in Asia, so yeah, South Korea and Taiwan isn't that different in that respect)
On the other hand, I don't think it was the guys who put the fuses in a box who put the box onto a plane, so I guess the guys who are responsible for logistics are to blame... but what do I know..

- justananomaly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6About that time chaps?
- ButterBuddha, on 03/28/2008, -1/+7Our government needs some adult supervision...seriously, from our President to the dumb ***** in the pentagon...they all are friggin children with Down's Syndrome.
- alpinecow, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Hey! No making fun of down's syndrome--not nice!
- Hangly, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Also sometimes collectively known as "baby boomers."
- Hangly, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3You mean they don't regular inventories already??
*****, the gas station I used to work for inventories their cigarettes every month. - bpeacock22, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3It was Skynet that "accidentally" shipped them there....
- lnxfi, on 03/28/2008, -2/+0Dude, where's my nuke?!
(sorry. couldn't help it. sorry. and sorry again.) - chipsngravy, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3And this is the nation which expected Iraq to be able to account for every cannister of mustard gas. What incompetence.
- w00tdigg, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1It wouldn't surprise me if they find that Cheney has 3 or 4 of them.
- skinkaid, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0He needs them to jump-start his heart every once in a while
- wynja, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Right, it was an accident we sent our friends, whom happened to be threated by their neighbor our enemy ally, four nuclear warheads (just add uranium).
- TheSabre, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Last time I checked, fuses weren't warheads. "Just add uranium". Right, that's like saying we sent someone an alarm clock... it's just a time bomb, all you have to do is add explosives.
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2I think it's hilarious... i'm in the Marines and we inventory all our crap like twice a month. I'm talking like $2.00 canteens and $50 camel baks. If we lose something like that it's a PAGE 11 (negative entry in your record). If we lose something like a $520 M-16, we go to the brig and our lieutenant and CO will probably have their careers ended.
But this... seriously. A Nuke Fuse? someone's head will roll, and I see a bunch of guys getting shipped to Adak, Alaska and Antarctica for "Cold Research". - fuckingusername, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2mission accomplished
- Darthcactaur, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Hekava' Job Pent-ie
- nroose, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Seems to me that they should do an inventory of all nukes daily.
- sonofblacula, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1All 27000?
- ka9dgx, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1We've invested about $5 Trillion on since the 1950s to build are Nuclear Arsenal. We have the undisputed capability to turn any country on the planet into glass.
We need never worry about someone else having Weapons of Mass Destruction, they wouldn't dare use them.- sonofblacula, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1MAD only works if the other guy isn't...you know...mad.
- TheSabre, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1If only we didn't spend another 5 trillion on the public school system so people would know the difference between "are" and "our".
- TheSabre, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1God damnit I'm retarded. Bury it. Note to self, when making a joke about education, proof read.
- Solstice, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Jennings and Roll would have never let this happen.
- JimSwarthow, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1that's it, time to nuke the US... er, wait a sec..
- protogenxl, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1"Best before November 1959." Dammit, Bob. There were plenty of brand new bombs, but you had to go for that retro 50s charm.
- Bodhinature, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Who is minding the store?
- bshock, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Just a coincidence that they're doing this now. It has nothing to do with Traitor Bush's intended nuclear strike on Iran.
- northernmunky, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1The fact that you have so many nukes that you need an inventory is worrying.
The fact that you have so many you're losing the ***** things is even more worrying.
Exactly who are you going to use that many nukes against anyway???? - rxbudian, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Why does this even get into the news? Shouldn't it be an annual procedure? If businesses that wouldn't have cost lives if failed had to go through this process, why do government institution doesn't have it either?
- pdxnick, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0dammit jim you've got to switch the back to the front! rotate the stock dammit! weve got stuff from 1960 behind the 1999! do your f*ckin job! count that *****!
- Look4Truth, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Not good. I smell 9/11 part two, coming soon to a city near you.
- pentupentropy, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Sorry, everyone. The audit from last year's nuke count came to my house. They sent it here by mistake. I emailed them about it, but never heard back, maybe they lost the email. *shrug*
