In this horrendous economy, LA would stop restaurants that would bring in jobs, even minimum wage jobs (which happens to be $8 an hour in California).
So much for freedom of choice. I guess you can have the freedom to kill your unborn child in the name of choice, but you can't go to a new fast food restaurant. That freedom of choice doesn't count.
Everyone is responsible for their own choices in life. It's not the government's responsibility to make sure I eat right. What's next - state monitors coming to every home to see what's in the frig and the pantry?

They just can't mind their own business. They have their nose firmly buried between everyone's butt cheeks. They tell you what to eat, what to wear, what kind of car to drive, what kind of light bulb to use, how to raise your kids. Their meddling knows no limits. And, when they get any power, they put their personal biases into law. THIS is what we want for this country?
