Palestinian father buries his daughter alive
alarabiya.net — A Palestinian woman died after her father buried her alive claiming he wanted to preserve the "family honor." The father, in his seventies, turned himself in and admitted to killing his 24-year-old divorced daughter. After investigating the crime scene, the police discovered that the woman ’s father had tied her arms and legs and muzzled her...

- knucklebusted, on 09/02/2008, -3/+32This tradition has no place in the 21st century. How many times does this have to happen. Murder is better than a divorced daughter? This culture is incompatible with life on this planet.
- dildoolielly, on 09/03/2008, -5/+11culture = religion
- RightHand, on 09/06/2008, -4/+5It confounds my intellect that there are among you those who believe that any father would kill his daughter in this manner just because he was a Muslim. If it were true then there would be no Muslims left as dead daughters don't produce children.
Anyone know a person who committed suicide? Why did they do it? To punish the living? No parent of any religion or none ever wants their child to die in any circumstances. Anyone who believes different is totally heartless or RACIST if they believe someone from another religion would kill his daughter without compelling reasons, or at least from their point of view.
When the child commits suicide do you blame the parents? Their religion? Their friends? Society? Who? Or do you not blame anyone? I don't know what would drive a father to kill his daughter, but I do know that it is never their religion.
I know of nothing quite as bad as this but I do know of extremely odd practices in both the Jewish and Hindu faiths that are part of the religious practice. I can guess that the 'dishonour' brought on the whole family by her perceived 'dishonour' can only be cleansed by her death. Wrong by our standards but maybe best for the whole family. I know of nothing in the Muslim faith that requires a daughter's death.
I do know of some extremely odd practices in the bible of god requiring son's deaths. I can only conclude that racism is the underlying motive for comments here. Personally I am more appalled by the slaughter of innocent children in the Middle East by the Zionist Mafia. Sorry to spoil your fun.- Unitftbll, on 09/06/2008, -0/+5This once I have to disagree with you, Righthand. In the UK there have been a number of "honour-killings" - so many in fact the UK government are about to bring out a law specifically for it.
I have a friend who is literally on the run in the UK - his reason? His girlfriend - she is Muslim and they have been threatened a few times when almost caught. They have now left the UK for another European nation.
In Canada, where I live now, there have been "honour-killings" they do happen and some in horrific circumstances.

- RightHand, on 09/06/2008, -1/+4Obviously from the votes, 4 or 5 five of you disagree with me for spoiling you lynching in the best racist fashion when the mob turned on the law for spoiling their 'enjoyment. You don't need a noose to have a lynching.
Like others of the shadows, not one of these racists had the courage to face your accuser and attempt to articulate your position. My attacking the mob isn't wise and I expected retribution. I thought some of you would have the guts to face me here. No, like most mob members, you skunk away back into the shadows to attack again and display your racism and sectarianism from the shadows.
Europeans do not have this Islamophobia anything to the extent that you do and yet rub shoulders with the Arab world. Why do you from so far away? Are you not been lead by the nose again by the one beggar-bowl state who need you to hate Arabs in the way that is first nature to them while they steal your money? Why do you need boogie men to hate? Why hate at all? Would Jesus Christ have attacked like you. Sure, the eye of an eye pre-Christ religion still advocates 10 Arab eyes for one Zionist. Doesn't mean that it's Christian.
- allowners, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2It's not about Islamophobia, it's about religious nuttery.

"This once I have to disagree with you, Righthand. In the UK there have been a number of "honour-killings" - so many in fact the UK government are about to bring out a law specifically for it. "
I'd always prefer if you disagree with me that it would be manfully like you have done. I'm not sure what it is that you disagree with. My point was "It confounds my intellect that there are among you those who believe that any father would kill his daughter in this manner just because he was a Muslim." Do you disagree? It is wrong, but not part of being a Muslim or any religion Society? Cultural?
I defy any parent to suggest that any father would do such without what the parent would consider compelling reasons. If his society believed he was wrong, why don't we find lynched father's of dead daughters. Personally, I'd prefer my suicide than to kill my daughter. When white mobs lynched blacks for perceived rapes, what should have been society's penalty? Was it Christian?
Please continue to disagree with me.
- DCMacHead, on 09/02/2008, -20/+19This is right wing propoganda! Everyone knows Islam is the religion of peace! Just ask Barack Obama--he's listed as a Muslim at the school he attended in Indonesia! He seems like a peaceful kind of guy.

- DanThePainter, on 09/03/2008, -1/+11Islam means peace, but peace is defined as being Muslim. All else is a state of war against Allah.

- TunaFishGangsta, on 09/03/2008, -2/+18Bury the dad alive... eye for an eye.
- n0gnuz, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2Also, hang the judges who put teenaged girls to death for the "crime" of being raped or associating with men they aren't related to. That would reform the backwards elements of Arab-Islamic culture in short order.
- willster580, on 09/03/2008, -10/+10Seems reasonable to me. I mean, he just wanted to preserve his family's honor by burying his daughter alive. Divorce would have made his family seem immoral.
- n0gnuz, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2Don't digg this down. They guy's obviously being sarcastic.
- dildoolielly, on 09/03/2008, -23/+9We can deny it all we want but Christian philosophy is more like radical Islamic fundamentalism than people realize. They are two sides of the same coin:
Think about it, they both share the same attitude regarding women. They believe women should be subservient to men. Accomplished women are threatening to them. They work to prevent equality between the sexes. Women shouldn't be allowed to wield power, whether it's driving a car or piloting an F-18.
Both are hard-liners on crime and punishment. Arabs cut off hands and behead people. It's not that extreme with conservatives, but they also believe in harsh punishment in the name of justice and to send a warning to future wrong-doers. Conservatives believe in the death penalty and long prison sentences.
Both are isolationists. They are suspicious of people of different nationalities, ethnicities, and religion. They exhibit xenophobia. They use religion as a means of distinguishing self from non-self, friend from enemy. Foreigners are always suspect.
They are traditionalists. They cherish what already exists and are wary of new ideas. There may be inefficiencies and injustices with the current system, but they don't want to rock the boat. New ideas are blasphemy. Progressives are looked down upon.
They want religion to be the heart of government. They don't want a separation of church and state. Laws should be based on religious teachings. Religious leaders should be in charge of the country.
Look in the mirror Christians. Today's radical Islamic fundamentalist is really yesterday's Christian.- SteelChicken, on 09/03/2008, -3/+12youre ***** stupid

'Racist' marriage law upheld by Israel

By Donald Macintyre in Jerusalem
Israel's High Court has narrowly upheld a law denying Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza married to Israeli citizens the right to live in the country with their spouses.
The judges voted by six to five not to cancel a four-year-old amendment to the Citizenship Law which outlaws "family unification" in Israel between Palestinians and Arab citizens of Israel.

Stupid *****. - MoeWasHere, on 09/03/2008, -3/+18As a muslim, i'd like to stem the tide right here and just say that this is blatantly ridiculous and paramount to the worst kinds of wrongs that anyone can do let alone a 'devout' muslim.
Or to put it another way - he's going to hell (literally)
The only good news I can present here, is the cultures there are rapidly changing and are moderating themselves. These extreme cases are dying with the last generation.
On a side note: I used to read articles on AlArabiya.net a lot. But have stopped since they are like the "HuffPost of the middle east": at times way too one sided and only pick and chose their articles. (Not to take anything away from this article by any means).- Temlakos, on 09/03/2008, -2/+11Pardon me for asking, but doesn't the Koran specifically mandate such behavior? "Fight and slay the infidels wheresoever ye find them." Where is the *fatwa* that interprets that verse as inoperative?
- n0gnuz, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1@MoeWasHere:
So, in your opinion, is this a deviation from contemporary Islamic religion/culture? If you were to try to qualify the group of Arab/Muslim individuals we in the West keeping hearing about who do these horrible things, how would you describe them? Do most Arabs/Muslims reject the more extreme facets of the Koran, just as most Christians reject the more extreme facets of the Jewish bible (where killing unchaste women, homosexuals, and nonbelievers are the approved types of honor killings)?
I actually have worked with a few Arab-Islamic guys (all from Lebanon, for some reason), and they were very nice, humble, and charismatic. I can't imagine them hurting their wives or children, just as I can't image the vast majority of Christians or Judaists hurting their own. OTOH, these men were college-educated, highly-paid individuals working in the IT industry and living in America, where those behaviors are not accepted. - rhayat1, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Muslim leaders must loudly condemn such behavior - and not just within earshot of other Muslims - if they expect the wider world to refrain from condemning Islam as a whole. If they choose silence instead, then non-Muslims can only conclude that Islam condones such behavior.
- Jimmysais, on 09/03/2008, -2/+13I am a right wing Jew living on a west bank settelment, and I must say not all Muslims, arabs and/or Palestinians are this barbaric. - Ricemanstm, on 09/03/2008, -5/+13Oh, but the Palestinians are just misunderstood. This is all Israel's fault for not ceding over more territory to the Hezbolla. The US should stay out of Arab affairs and let the Middle East sort this out....

And yes, the US should stay out of the Middle East and stop funding the crazies on one side to give the crazies on the other side an excuse for their craziness. - n0gnuz, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1What a bunch of Zionist propaganda! First, he confuses the Palestinians with Hezbollah, then he plays the phony Israel-as-victim card (because, Israel didn't "cede" more of the *Palestinians'* territory over to a Lebanese group).
I agree that Americans should no longer be forced to be involved in the Middle East. However, it's the Israel lobby, not the nascent Arab lobby, that is shaping US policy in the region.

- Erythroxylum, on 09/03/2008, -5/+13Burying a woman alive? How very Muhammedan. It's good that he turned himself in, but since the Palestinians are basically primitive, hate-filled, eschatological barbarians who follow the Quar'an - which teaches that women are essentially animals and advocates, nay, encourages this sort of medieval behaviour - to the letter, I doubt he'll encounter any kind of justice. In fact they'll probably give him a pat on the back for being a good Muslim.

- yakski, on 09/04/2008, -5/+6Wrong you totalitarian meat-head... the left you talk about includes the 95% of the world that is not so nut-bag right wing totalitarian as you!!!... MOST people do not support needless unreasoned death like this .. and also like the Bush invasion of Iraq... you just set up the straw men because you can't stand any reasoned discussion between people and you just HATE period.. your unreasonable HATE betrays you as just another Adolf wannabe.
- Kizilbash, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3Why waste a reasoned reply on a proven idiot, for everyone else who IS using their brains: First of all: support for the Palestinian cause (that is finally giving them either their own state or equal rights in a shared state), does not constitute support for Palestinian atrocities, just as support for black South Africans in their struggle against Apartheid did not mean supporting the horrific killings some of them carried out. Of course the US and European right at the time was supporting the Apartheid regime as it is this time.
This murder has nothing to do with the Palestinian cause or with Islam for that matter, it is just a horrible act by an individual (who I might add is under arrest).
This thread says a whole lot more about the racism on Digg than about the Palestinians.
- n0gnuz, on 09/06/2008, -1/+2Yakski: Stevanoski actually is one of those few individuals who *does* support the government's invasion of Iraq. :)

- ad33lshahid, on 09/06/2008, -1/+4Ironically, Islam came to the people of Arabia and sought to replace this very ignorant practice of burying daughters alive in pre-Islam Arabia, with equal rights and protection for both sons and daughters. Many of the practices seen today that are being attributed to Islam are actually being done out of ignorance and in DIRECT opposition to the teachings of Islam. The muslim world is in dire need of a religious re-education. This great sin is mentioned specifically in the Quran as the Arabs used to do it because they felt a female would bring shame to the family:
"Kill not your children for fear of want: We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin." [17:31]
"When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!, With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice) they decide on?" [16:58-59]
"When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned -, For what crime she was killed;...(Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward" [81:8-14]
on a separate note, instead of lashing out and saying that this is exactly what Islam teaches -- that women are animals and deserve to be treated like this, please refrain from spreading lies as you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. - Catspaw, on 09/06/2008, -2/+4The Neo-cons buried over 3,000 innocent people on 9/11. - n0gnuz, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2I'll agree that this guy is not representative of Islam per se, but why does this sort of thing keep happening? I have to imagine that in the West, we only hear of 1% of these occurrences...and we hear about *plenty* of them.
