- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -1/+16May Allah curse the Taliban and all of their supporters worldwide.
- saady87, on 04/23/2009, -2/+16For some reason, I miss Pervez Musharraf
- bigteebo, on 04/23/2009, -2/+14*condescending Stewie voice*
How's that suppression going huh?
Gonna push back their troops hmm?
Stabilize the area? - TruBlu2, on 04/23/2009, -2/+12I wonder if this means that our troops will go farther into Pakistan's borders to attack the Taliban? Might get interesting...
- no1nos, on 04/23/2009, -2/+12Yeah because the current two wars have done such a good job bringing about economic prosperity for us.
- garg, on 04/23/2009, -2/+12Pakistan has a standing army larger than the US army. I don't think a few hundred thugs with 1970s klashinkovs are going to be able to take over islamabad any time soon.
The only way that is possible is through the radical islamization of the pakistani army/government. But Islamabad can not be taken over by force from some untrained fools with a few machine guns. - vbullinger, on 04/23/2009, -1/+11I miss Benazir Bhutto.
- arvvvs, on 04/23/2009, -0/+9Guerilla Warfare can be an extremely effective tactic, and with enough support in the population, it can do alot of damage.
the North Vietnam, Viet Cong tatics forced the US to engage in a guerilla war, and America would eventually get out of Vietnam.
The Mujhadeen later the Taliban with US help drove the Russian Soviets out, and they were considered a super power
Also keep in mind that parts of the Government, including the spy network, have connections with the mujhadeen. - no1nos, on 04/23/2009, -0/+9Maybe most of the people in the region are afraid to stand up against the guys with all the guns that are not afraid to kill themselves if it means advancing their goals. I would be scared to do something if I were in their position too.
- manstein01, on 04/23/2009, -1/+9Almost everyone knowledgeable about Pakistan warned when Musharraf stepped down that all of the alternatives were even worse. And now, we are finding that to be true.
- nevetssav, on 04/23/2009, -3/+11Incoming epic failure.
I wish it wasn't true, I really do, but Swat is pretty ***** up, to say the least. Pakistan made a mistake when they let the Taliban implement their own reign - Pakistan did well to make the concession of Sharia law, but they should have been the ones enforcing it. Instead, they authorized their own loss of monopoly on force, and almost illegitamized their own state. Sad case over there, and I actually hope the US (and its international allies) get involved before a nuclear-armed state fails. (It'd be an...interesting...tool for getting out of a global downturn, too.) - nakp88d, on 04/23/2009, -1/+8With all due respect, this is not a ***** movie.
- tizle, on 04/23/2009, -0/+7America didn't give nukes to Pakistan. China gave them the knowledge and they built it themselves. When they did their nuclear testing, US slapped sanctions on Pakistan.
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -1/+8Moronic statement; buried.
Sears Tower was designed by a Bengali Muslim. Next. - psYcon, on 04/23/2009, -1/+8Getting out of a global downturn by invading a nuclear state. I don't think so.
- jfitz369, on 04/23/2009, -0/+6Pakistan = Obama's War. Let the good times roll.
- arvvvs, on 04/23/2009, -3/+9What worries me is how long before Islamabad falls?
Pakistan has nukes and these guys are not afraid to die. - booshpilot, on 04/23/2009, -0/+6Mushariff is probably laughing his ass off and crying at the same time. Not much consolation in telling people, "I told you so!"
- tizle, on 04/23/2009, -1/+7I hope you're being sarcastic here.
Negotiate with the Taliban? Are you serious? What in their history has suggested that they are open to negotiations? Pakistan negotiated with them and where did it land them? People in the Swat valley are being killed and now they are 60 miles from Islamabad. The Taliban has one objective, to impose Sharia law. Don't know about you, but I certainly don't want to grow a beard and beat up women. - kingmanic, on 04/23/2009, -1/+7Military spending is just republican approved Keynesian economics.
- EvilBaby, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5I think the difference here is that the U.S. media wont be involved. I don't think Pakistan cares how many civilians get caught in the cross fire, or how many casualties they'll incur.
- Lassan, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5I hate you for even saying that.
- jack104, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5We never should have allowed them to take Swat in the first place. We should have bombed them back to the stone age.....crude yes....but also effective.
- truelier, on 04/23/2009, -3/+7umm dog was the creation of America to fight against Russia if you can recall it...
- humdingor, on 04/23/2009, -2/+6Pakistan creates dog, feeds dog posionous food, dog goes mad !!
Dog starts biting owner !! Owner calls himself victim. . . - arvvvs, on 04/23/2009, -1/+5There was a time, in Islamic Civilizations were they were thousands of books, and monuments, and discoveries in maths, and sciences. Europe was stuck in the dark ages with each town having at most two books. Arabic has a deal of influence over other language such as "Sharif" "Sherrif" and "Algebra", and "sheque" to "check"

- nevetssav, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4Invading isn't the same as assisting the seated government (our allies).
- manstein01, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4I really cannot stand morons like you who can do little more than pontificate "It's all America's fault!" - then go into some nonsensical rubbish about how some American business deal was made at some year at some point in the past, therefore the American Executive shadow government is responsible for everything bad that happens in one area for oh....eternity. And if it's not America's fault, then some other Western Country is to blame.
We did not give Pakistan nukes. The country has many brilliant people, and it relied on a program using it's own resources which took 25 years to come to fruition. - vbullinger, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4Agreed, kingmanic. Except that this is only true in the last couple of decades. Previously, it was another from or Democratic-approved Keynesian economics. Now, all of a sudden, the neocons swooped into the Republican party and flipped that switch so that Republicans want to start wars. Previously, just about all wars have been started under Democratic administrations and with approval of Democrats and the disapproval of Republicans.
- alfredscakes, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4"Mr President - I think it's time to make that call"
- TruBlu2, on 04/24/2009, -0/+3I did not intend to insinuate that troops are currently stationed in Pakistan. Only that we have crossed the "border" to attack the Taliban. The question was if we would go farther into Pakistan to pursue. Would the Pakistani govt welcome it now? etc.
- no1nos, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3What government are we appeasing in this situation? The Pakistanis who we give billions of dollars in military aid to fight off the Taliban, or the Taliban in Pakistan who we have been crossing sovereign national borders to conduct airstrike attacks on throughout Obama's administration?
- booshpilot, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3I agree.
Like any resident of an occupied territory you will do whatever it takes to survive. Just finished reading about Napoleon's Peninsular campaigns. The Spanish, of course, were going to side with whomever was going to be their next occupier which means you play both sides and all sides of an occupation! - inactive, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4Pakistan is the dog.
- tizle, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3education is a long term solution. In the short term, you need to drive them out of pakistan simply because Pakistan has nuclear weapons. Those weapons shouldn't fall into the wrong hands.
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3I never said it was a bad thing, just stating how I see this ending up.
- tizle, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4As much as I hate to say it, the International community has to get involved in this situation. Unlike Afghanistan and Iraq, Pakistan has nuclear weapons and if those weapons get in the wrong hands, it could spell disaster. I hope that Pakistan reaches to India for help with this situation. Even though these countries are rivals, joining forces in this situation would benefit both countries and who knows, maybe this will help improve ties between the two countries. One this is for sure, if the Taliban are not dealt with a knockout punch, they will keep coming back. The only way to defeat them for good is for countries to unite and finish the job once and for all.
- TruBlu2, on 04/24/2009, -0/+3Maybe you misinterpreted my question. It is not something I would look forward to...just simply curious as to what may happen.
- lhbaker, on 04/23/2009, -3/+6Pakistani troops: AKA reinforcements for the Taliban.
- jack104, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3No we bombed the ***** out of them for a while....then went to iraq and just ignored afghanistan. We should have finished the job there and then moved on.
- mincman, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2Farther in? There are no troops in Pakistan. That's Afghanistan
- tizle, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Do you really think that the Taliban is getting more aggressive because of Obama's statements? If you do, you obviously don't know what's going on. If you care to do your research before you speak, you will find out that Obama talked about the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan much before he was elected President and he pointed out that if something is not done in those areas soon, things will go out of hand.
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -2/+4This will end in another military coop for Pakistan.
- no1nos, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2All we need is for the Pakistanis to start breeding genetically modified supermen to rule their land, and the scene is set for...
KHAAAAAAAANNNN!!!!! - OutlawSundown, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3
I sorry you can't negotiate with these guys there is no moderate wing of the Taliban. These guys are probably as extreme as you get. If they take over Pakistan no one will be able to live their own way of life or choose their government(not unless it's the Taliban way). If you don't conform to that way of life they kill you. They used the Soccer Stadium in Kabul as a Colosseum for public executions for years. The Taliban executed a couple for trying to elope just a few weeks ago. These guys intend to force their way of life on others come hell or highwater and the other people don't have a say.
Not to mention if these guys ever get their hands on the Pakistani nuclear arsenal they will actually use it. I'm sorry it's not being "Bush" minded It's having common sense in this case. It's not in anyone interest to let them take over any state let alone a Nuclear state. - vbullinger, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3The only way to defeat them is to remove support for them completely and educate people so that they don't get propagandized into going along with the Taliban.
Going into Pakistan will just create more terrorism and more war. Period.
War with Iraq is bad.
War with Afghanistan is bad.
War with Pakistan will be bad when it happens. Technically, it's already started. We've been running little clandestine operations into Pakistan for quite some time now. Just because some members of the current administration say that it is ok to invade Pakistan, do NOT fall for it: the same people are going to invade Pakistan for the same reasons. - ihavebeenseen, on 04/23/2009, -2/+4***** MYSELF TOO
