- babylonian, on 04/06/2008, -7/+202I was hoping they were suing because the Street View Van inadvertantly caught them having sex through a window or something. Turns out they're just a couple of paranoid snobs. What a letdown.
- bossm4n, on 04/06/2008, -7/+173How exactly would this have devalued their property? Ridiculous and frivolous.
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -3/+122It's appropriate that the couple's name is "the Borings."
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -1/+114So you find an obscure image in a set of probably billions by now, and the site will remove the images of your property on request. If you're actually concerned about your privacy, do you really choose to skip the quiet option and instead file a lawsuit that hundreds of newspapers and blogs are going to chatter about and investigate in further detail? Do you really think that increases your privacy?
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -4/+70I think we should set up a website dedicated to pictures of them and their house.
- implied, on 04/06/2008, -2/+52I very much love that sfgate.com is ratting the 'Borings' out to the permits board in PA for not disclosing the addition of a pool and garages. Glass house anyone?
"The county Web site does not mention the property's two detached garages and swimming pool, which are visible in the Google pictures and are mentioned in the couple's lawsuit" - bamafun, on 04/06/2008, -8/+46It's obvious they see google $$ Signs lol
- McMagic, on 04/06/2008, -2/+31I like how the article just gave so much more information about their property than any of the google pics did. if these people really valued their privacy they would have quietly submitted a claim and had the pictures removed, they are drawing more attention to their property now, isn't that the counter-intuitive?
People see a big corporation and they think dollar signs, i hope they get a judge that not only throw the case out, but berates these people for being such asinine xenophobes. - mwrl, on 04/06/2008, -4/+32I like the fact they published their address online. People in PA should go raid their pool!!
- bamafun, on 04/06/2008, -2/+30Barry, your story had 5 diggs at 1 day and 2 hours - I resubmitted 2 hours after it disappeared from the page - I try very hard not to dupe another's story because I've had it done to me as well. Digg's search is not perfect and sometimes things get missed. And .... the standard on digg I'm told is that if after 24 hours it hasn't made it - if you think the story is a good one you can resubmit it - which is what I did. =)
- Aupajo, on 04/06/2008, -10/+36Not really paranoid. The road that their house is down is clearly marked "Private Property", and yet the GVan took photos of your secluded house. I'm not fond of frivolous lawsuits but this one seems reasonable. This couple were striving for privacy. At the very least Google should apologise and remove the photos down.
What's stupid about this is that by bringing the lawsuit out into the open, now everyone's going to see their house, which does put their motives into question. - miken32, on 04/06/2008, -1/+25OMG call the lawyers:
http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=1567+Oakridge+Lane,+A ... - Crimsonsoul343, on 04/06/2008, -5/+28All these people are trying to do is get some money out of this. They never once called Google and asked them to take it down. instead they just went ahead and sued.
- FeloniusMonkey, on 04/06/2008, -2/+24I couldn't agree more with your last sentence! With this lawsuit, they officially violate their own privacy a million times what Google has.
- DifferentAngle, on 04/06/2008, -1/+21It sounded like they did not get permits to build the two detached garages and the swimming pool, so now they may be fined.
- superkendall, on 04/06/2008, -4/+22But the picture may have come from public roads and not their road, as the article itself alludes to:
The Allegheny County real estate Web site has a photo, plus a detailed description of the home and the couple's name. The site contains similar information, including pictures, of nearly every property in the county.
Moskal said the county's image appeared to have been taken from a public street.
Basically these people are out for a money grab, since if they really cared about privacy they would have simply requested to remove the image (as the article *also* mentions). I hope Google countersues them for expenses and they lose the house. - Ohnodonho, on 04/06/2008, -1/+15ask and you shall recieve -->

http://www2.county.allegheny.pa.us/RealEstate/Imag ... - UtahApocalyse, on 04/06/2008, -5/+19I plan to sue everyone that drives by my place on a PUBLIC street.
- AndrewDB, on 04/06/2008, -6/+18Don't let the door hit you on your way out!
- jdpalite, on 04/06/2008, -2/+14Yes because two people represent all Americans, numbskull.
- sgtpppr, on 04/06/2008, -0/+11"The home is 984 square feet with a fireplace and central heat and county assessors graded it as being in "Fair" condition. The county Web site does not mention the property's two detached garages and swimming pool, which are visible in the Google pictures and are mentioned in the couple's lawsuit."
Sounds like someone is claiming to the IRS they don't make much money but have nice new additions to the house that are now visible to the world via Google. Why would someone be so into hiding the fact they have pool and detached garage? It's like they wanted the value of the property to appear lower than it is.
I love the irony though of filing a lawsuit to keep something secret which causes it to be all over the Web. They even list the square footage of the house and it's estimated value. - Angostura, on 04/06/2008, -0/+11Legit. No roll involved.
- Dohko_Xar, on 04/06/2008, -2/+13It's obvious the privacy is BS. They are going for the money.
- freezerburn819, on 04/06/2008, -2/+13Was that the case?
Didn't think so.
Keep your ridiculous hypotheticals to yourself. - redrighthand, on 04/06/2008, -1/+11I'd like to see a comparison between the county photo and the google maps photo.
- Sibre, on 04/06/2008, -1/+11Except greedy ***** who file frivolous lawsuits like this...
- VenTatsu, on 04/06/2008, -0/+10Yes because hundreds of diggers were trying to find their house on street view before they filed suit.
- mateusap, on 04/06/2008, -0/+9if they in fact went inside their property then they're absolutely right
- Tebixan, on 04/06/2008, -3/+12Bye!
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -2/+11In a related story, a married father of three is seen having sex with a table.
- hypnotikrobot, on 04/06/2008, -1/+10they didn't drive by on a public street. they went down their private drive and turned around.
- purzzzell, on 04/06/2008, -0/+9value is determined by a licensed assessor or appraiser, factoring in many things but not including "pictures online taken on a bad day"
- Lyianis, on 04/06/2008, -1/+8Here is the problem with their case. They do live on a private road, however the "private" in private road has nothing to do with privacy and everything to do with land ownership and maintenance. Private roads are on land that is not owned by the government and is thus maintained by the property owners. The public can legal traverse these roads as long as there is nothing stating an area to be off limits.
If they had a "no trespassing - private property" sign or a gate at the beginning of their part of the road. As it is, they are just the 4th and final house at the end of a .25 mile long private road.
Here is the aerial view of the road. http://preview.tinyurl.com/55nnlj - RetepNamenots, on 04/06/2008, -4/+11Americans.
Please stop doing this. Suething everybody for everything imaginable. It's coming over the pond and you're just helping to turn everything into more of a nanny state. People can't do anything anymore, all because of fear of legal action that could be taken against them in the event that something went wrong, and in this case, for no real reason at all.
I understand that this doesn't apply to everyone, but just like George Bush, those people aren't making you look good. - moletimer, on 04/06/2008, -0/+7Diggers can't go out in sunlight. Their eyes aren't used to the dreaded 'natural light'.
- jdpalite, on 04/06/2008, -0/+6Agreed. They don't deserve to win any damages but they should not lose their house. All they deserve is to look like idiots.
- mrgeekguy, on 04/06/2008, -1/+7Pics or it didn't happen.
- chris9902, on 04/06/2008, -0/+6Ridiculous and frivolous? holy crap they're going to win!
- DifferentAngle, on 04/06/2008, -3/+9They're not actually snobs - the "considerable sum of money" was $160k, and the property was only 2 acres.
- milliamp, on 04/06/2008, -1/+7The worst part is all they have to do is request the images be removed and Google will remove them.
Unless they have attempted this and been refused they will probably get squat. - CarStan, on 04/06/2008, -3/+9What a Boring joke
- Skooma714, on 04/06/2008, -3/+8How dare they build buildings over they use on their own property without permission!
- Soave, on 04/06/2008, -1/+6Please, don't flatter yourselves, Boring family. Out of the zillions of Google streetview images, no one is looking at your house.
- theWrkncacnter, on 04/06/2008, -2/+7I don't like seeing anyone lose their house
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -1/+6The only mental suffering they'll be having is the one where Google owns them in court.
- inactive, on 04/06/2008, -2/+7Pennsylvania is full of some of America's biggest morons.
- Ajajadude, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5Well, thousands to hundreds of thousands of people will be reading about this lawsuit. Most of those people will be curious about where they live and what their house looks like. Their privacy just went down the tubes.
- schmitey, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5dugg for the awesome adjectives
- offspring06, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5Why advertise it with a lawsuit if they are concerned about their privacy?
- tlm2021, on 04/06/2008, -2/+6From what I can tell all the pictures were taken from a public, if small, road.
