[PICS] The most insane wreck I have ever seen.. I'm still in shock
flickr.com — I'm driving along 410 and all of the sudden everyone slams on there breaks. I look up and see this semi fishtail into the wall and two cars smack right into each other. Another car did roll, which I didn't see. a couple of seconds later i jump out with my camera and the darn truck explodes. It was really one of the most intense accidents I have eve

- dgconley66, on 10/11/2007, -17/+3"Most intense wreck i have ever seen"... eh no *****, how often do you see any wreck?
- ZippidyDoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Pretty often on 410. Especially with the construction going on all the time.
- sabach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1About 12 years ago I witnessed a head-on with a semi, I was about 1/4 mile away and saw a huge cloud of steam from the front end of the car being crushed. The trucker was pretty beat up but seemed OK. I asked if anyone had checked the other driver, nobody was willing to look and if you'd seen the car you'd understand why. Almost the entire front end of the car was in the front seat, I could only see her arm, the rest of her was embedded in the wreckage. I later heard she was doing her make-up in the mirror and crossed the center line.
Two years ago I was broadsided by a Lincoln at 60mph. It nearly tore the front end clear off of my pickup, I had 3 ribs broken in 4 places and a separated shoulder. Big fun.

-Also, these are some sweet pictures. Crashes are always cool, in that...uhh, don't want to look but can't look away heart pounding sort of way. Not that you want anyone hurt, but they're exciting...unless you're in them that is. - TheArcadeFire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Um, maybe because it wouldn't be right to do it? From what I'm assuming by the viewpoint he's a civilian
How would you feel if you just got your car wrecked and some stranger goes and takes some detail shots of the carnage as if he's documenting it for the police?- sabach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Not to mention getting in the way of the rescue workers.

How do you not know what happened???- Cowfrommars, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Well, in my experience, cars generally don't blow up and form piles by themselves. He was asking what happened to cause the accident.
- Price, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5No, no... I think it was just an AYB reference (He said "What happens ???"). There's also "We get signal" and if you look at the box at the center of the image and hover over it, you'll see "Somebody set us up the bomb!"

- dacheetah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Notice the photos were also filed in a group that was D200 something... Probably a D200
- HibikiRush, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Seriously, any decent D-SLR with a wide lens will take pics like that. I'm tired of people asking this anytime a picture better than something you'd get with a point-and-shoot gets posted. Pictures are pictures, it's all about the ability and effort taken to capture a different angle and viewpoint.
- Bega, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think it's the muted tones that give such a stark look that makes the photos look impressive. Either way, kudos sir!

(2nd pic advertising) - flyhunnie7, on 10/11/2007, -17/+11Was it really *that* important that it was a "black older man" who got out of his car to help the woman get out of her car? If he suddenly performed a scene from Roots, I could understand why race needed to be specified, but here, not quite... just saying... carry on.
Sincerely,
token black girl- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4It only mattered because later on in the paragraph it states that there was an older lady with a "black problem". I never knew of such an epidemic.
- woodcoxcb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9i'm praying that was sarcastic.
- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0Well, to answer your prayer. . . it was.
- rglover, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I'm black and that was throwing the race card down pretty ***** hard. Let it go.
- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Maybe I typed that wrong, I did not mean what you think it meant.
- rglover, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Not you, the "token black girl." It just gets obnoxious when someone gets overzealous about the use of their race in a sentence, story, whatever. If it wasn't used in a derogatory sense, then don't get worked up over it.
- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Maybe I typed that wrong, I did not mean what you think it meant.
- MakinBacon, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5@ flyhunnie7
The fact that the black gentleman was singled out as doing something heroic is painting him in a positive light. Why would you feel the need to complain at the very mention of the "black older man" when it was not done in a malicious or negative manner? If I was a "token black girl" I would be quite happy to see this mentioned... if for no other reason than to counteract the hundreds of negative stereotypes we come across every day.- sabach, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Very much a non-issue, let's move on to something else, shall we?
Regards,
Bald Middle-Aged Irish Guy - WaterDragon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2au contraire, pointing out his blackness, since he did a good deed, is only based on a prejudicial stereotype.
I agree...drop it....but perhaps many of us have been on digg for the past 12 hours, and are all talking ***** now!
- sabach, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Very much a non-issue, let's move on to something else, shall we?
- adeadwaffle, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2What flyhunnie was saying that race doesn't need to be mentioned at all, whether the person being mentioned is being cast in a positive or negative light. We're supposed to be color blind and I agree.
- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I agree with you, race did not need to be mentioned. But it was there. Maybe the title of the post could have conveyed the race issue at the scene of the accident.
- munee23, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0sorry double post.
- pyro789x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Umm... You're an idiot?
The same reason why they would have said a "white younger man," if it had been a white younger man who had happened to help the woman out of her car. Hey, I'm tall, does that mean I should be offended every time anybody mentions anything about anybody being tall?
Sincerely,
token pissed off tall mexican guy whos tired of everybody playing the race card.- CDHarrisUSF, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Furthermore, the black population in LA is less than 10%. If you saw a white guy in Harlem, would you describe him as being white? Color is as much a valid visual descriptor as age. If you see one person whose appearance contrasts that of the surrounding people in an obvious way... are you supposed to tiptoe around the fact that he looks different when trying to describe him to someone? No. We are not color blind. Differences don't need to be ignored. They should be celebrated as diversity. Calling people racist for things like this helps to perpetuate racism.
- queenstarsha, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1she didn't call anyone racist. she said it was weird to bring it up. it's not like we need to find this guy to give him his medal, so why do we need to know his race?
sure, it could be harmless, like saying "an old guy in a megadeth t-shirt", like hey! he's wearing a megadeth t-shirt and he's kind-spirited. yay for megadeth fans! the media has them all wrong.
but unless you've been on the wrong end of prejudice your whole life no matter what t-shirt you wear, you really shouldn't be telling people how to feel about race (or gender), white dudes.
- faskippy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Oh, get off the hell off that stupid crap, would ya?
- WaterDragon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2so....you're quick to jump on possible racism, but you don't care about age-ism. Was it important that he was an 'older' man?
If we could all be so PC, we might not be able to say anything heh heh
Is it important to know what gender they were? Why not just say 'a person helped another person out of a car. '
But why specify 'car'? That can be seen as insensitive to people who prefer to promote motorcycles or bikes, or skates.....so how about just 'a person helped another person out of a vehicle'. Much less colorful, nice and sterile! - cgruber, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Guess what. The world isn't out to do ANYONE a favor. Get over it, bad ***** happens to everyone and this was the dumbest complaint I have ever read. SO MUCH SO that i'm going to read all your other posts.
- Preacherman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're going to read all her other posts? [GASP] That will teach her.

I'll attribute the pathetic spelling to shock.- IllBeBack, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5It's stupid to say that there is a problem with the "spelling". He did not spell anything incorrectly. He used the wrong words entirely. The correct words were "their" and "brakes". This isn't a problem with spelling or grammar. It's a problem with just being an ignorant dumbass that didn't pay close enough attention in school.
- WaterDragon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1OR....it could be that the person spoke the words into a computer, and a program typed it out. But then they were too lazy to proofread it...so....your point remains.
- sancho, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1'there' and 'their' are different words. He used the word 'their' but misspelled it as 'there'. It's a spelling error.

- Pathius, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Have you ever been to San Antonio? He's not exaggerating. It's not so bad in the dead of night, but between 0530 and about 2030, the inner loop is to be completely avoided.
On the east side, about 1 in 5 vehicles on the loop are packed like clown cars. On the north side where it meets the interstates, foot traffic often outpaces vehicle traffic.

- Jack9, on 10/11/2007, -9/+5Worst wreck you've ever seen? What a joke. Try the deadliest hwy in the US, hwy 17 out of Santa Cruz CA... any given crash any given weekday. This "featured" wreck is nothing special or spectacular. Marked inaccurate.
- Firehed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He didn't say it's the worst wreck ever seen. He said it's the worst _he's_ ever seen. Are you suggesting he's seen worse and is lying to us?

- timmay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was worried and I wasn't sure as hell thinking about flickr.. all I think about everyday is photography. Its a habit of mine that if i see a good photograph to reach for the camera. It didn't look like anyone was hurt and if I did see someone hurt I would have helped but everyone was out fine..
- cajie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Well, somebody's gotta do it.
- cajie, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Dugg for not using the word EVER at the end of the title - in CAPS.
Plus Great pictures.

- mtheoryx83, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4You're disgusting. And also the reason why a someone on the side of the road fixing a flat tire can cause a massive backup on BOTH sides of a divided highway. Damned Rubberneckers.
- Knivez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Um, curiosity is part of the human nature, but i agree people who stare at no end are so ***** annoying.

- rot13ubercrypto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5A few years ago, I was driving through central Spain with my girlfriend on a straight two-lane per-direction highway South of Madrid. The roadways were raised, with a deep ditch in between. At one point I saw a dust/smoke cloud on the opposite roadway, and assumed it was some farmer kicking up dust on the dry path next to the highway, but it turned out to be a minivan madly careening back and forth over his two lanes.
He went out of control on two wheels, then into the ditch in the middle, came right at us, and as I hit the gas, corkscrewed diagonally over us (!) at about 10 feet of altitude, and did 2-3 spins mid-air. In my rear-view window I could see him go over both lanes on my side and land on the front left windshield support on a patch of dirt, then flip a few more times before coming to a rest. My only reaction was "whoah." Took me a sec to slam on the brakes and look for a first aid kit (which I of course couldn't find.)
A bunch of other people and I ran towards the car, and, I kid you not, the driver's door dropped open, and the guy fell out and stumbled towards us, while we were yelling for him to get away get away, the tank's gonna explode. He had fallen asleep at the wheel and suffered a minor (!) cut above his eye, that was all. There's my most insane wreck ever...- orukabir, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I feel bad digging that up, but god damn people should read that!
