- JediCorran, on 11/15/2009, -5/+71it was Bush. and they were "where's waldo?" books. he just gave up.
- aralls, on 11/15/2009, -7/+72$.02 + $.02/day compounded over 51 years at 6% interest is $2,532 - that library got screwed!
- juliusthecat, on 11/15/2009, -1/+59What a cute way to donate money to your high school.
- Ghostalker, on 11/15/2009, -1/+45The books were so old, they referred to the civil rights movement as "trouble ahead"
- diemunkiesdie, on 11/15/2009, -1/+35Kinda kidding? Damn! And here I was, all about to get riled up and take up arms against this chap bastard! RABBLE RABBLE!!!
- ghostrc, on 11/15/2009, -0/+31maybe that turns you on Seinfeld. Maybe that's how you get your kicks.
- Asheis, on 11/15/2009, -0/+29for the most part I don't believe schools charge interest on late books. Just the flat $ per day.
- aralls, on 11/15/2009, -1/+27kinda kidding there. i'm sure the library was thrilled to get anything at all.
- anixmander, on 11/15/2009, -0/+22Because he was the only one interested?
- McBrewski, on 11/15/2009, -0/+21 You and your good-time buddies. Well I got a flash for ya, joy boy, Party time is over.
- JediCorran, on 11/15/2009, -3/+16duh. and they weren't where's waldo books. you should totally be on "who wants to be a millionaire?"
why are you wasting that keen intellect on the digg comments when you could be using your brain to solve crimes like batman? - novicechap, on 11/15/2009, -8/+20ok
- noahgelman, on 11/15/2009, -0/+11Not only did he not need to return the book, he didn't need to give the money. What a generous thing to do.
- e68895f, on 11/15/2009, -2/+13Good news to the next person on waiting list!
- borez, on 11/15/2009, -0/+10I've got a book that was stamped out ( not by me ) from the library in 1976. God knows what the fine would be on that.
- jzh1554, on 11/15/2009, -2/+11Buzzkill.
- kopiwrite, on 11/15/2009, -0/+7I don't really think they have a policy on this...I mean it's usually not a factor to consider ;)
- eihwaz, on 11/15/2009, -0/+7if you use the same $0.02/day fee the man in the article used, it would be around $234.96 (depending on the actual day the book was taken).
- diggdong, on 11/15/2009, -0/+6Yeah, well, I got a first printing of Animal Farm out of the dumpster of a public library.
- Ibox, on 11/15/2009, -0/+6and they were right... lol
- rzrgenesys187, on 11/15/2009, -2/+7Seinfeld did it
- vulcanius, on 11/15/2009, -0/+5Did you remember to account for inflation?
- UrineEngineer, on 11/15/2009, -0/+4I thought the late fee couldn't surpass the potential cost of the book?
- verynegative, on 11/15/2009, -1/+5I really laughed out loud.
- MysterySword, on 11/15/2009, -1/+4Hmm? What about Wikiquote? I did a whole report of a book I never read by using that site.
- trs21219, on 11/15/2009, -4/+7Little do the librarians know, the books contain propaganda to entice readers to move to a more modern virtual library that is updated constantly and is free to anyone with a connection...The Internet!
The librarians in my HS would scream at you for even mentioning using an entry from wikipedia. - JasonsLan, on 11/16/2009, -0/+3Israel. The brand new country everyones gonna love.
- bdbthinker, on 11/15/2009, -1/+4Don't Bundy that book.
- Jaime2000, on 11/16/2009, -0/+2I didn't know Bush ran in the 2008 election.
- Ibox, on 11/15/2009, -0/+2Whom are you talking to?
- Remingtonh, on 11/15/2009, -0/+2The books were so old they refer to Hitler "as a fairly stable veteran of the Great War. . ."
- TexasMd91, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1I always had tricks to get around library fines.
My favorite was telling her I lost the book, and paying the cash for the book, and then the next day 'finding' it and getting my cash back (pretty much fine goes away)
And then of course putting the book in my backpack, putting it on the selves, and then telling her I already turned it in, and 'finding' it on the selves the next day. Makes it look like an error on their side. - erkokite, on 11/15/2009, -3/+4The internet can be a poor substitute for a good book, sometimes.
- mizarone, on 11/15/2009, -1/+2"Second prints good, first prints bad."?
- DestroyedAUS, on 11/15/2009, -3/+4In my experience 'school librarian' is usually synonymous with 'archaic hag', so that doesn't surprise me.
- KrayzieKyd, on 11/15/2009, -0/+1Tropic of Capricorn. Or was it Cancer?
- candorny, on 11/15/2009, -4/+5why do you get to decide the interest rate?
- KrayzieKyd, on 11/15/2009, -1/+2Bookman. It's like an ice cream man with a last name "Cone".
