Full-Service Gas
No Sales Tax - DangerCollie, on 05/04/2008, -11/+62Ha! One of the lefty liberal tree hugging states that demonstrates what supporting the troops really means. The rest of you...be sure and buy one of those retarded yellow ribbon magnets to show how much you care.
- inactive, on 05/04/2008, -0/+34I salute the state of Oregon
- m0tbaillie, on 05/04/2008, -2/+34Why the ***** do people seem to think that being liberal automatically implies that you're anti-military?
- pjisback, on 05/04/2008, -0/+29Well they won't be giving away many to our disabled veterans if they're only accepting 100% ratings. I'm a recently disabled veteran myself and having been through the claim system the DOD has recently I can say with a fair amount of certainty that you'd have to be missing all four limbs and be a vegetable to be rated at 100%.
In fact the majority of our veterans returning from injuries sustained in Iraq, Afghanistan, or injured in the US get only a 10 to 20 percent disability rating. I had my right femur shattered and after three surgeries and 5 months of rehab to be able to walk again, the Army has judged me to be 10% disabled. You can appeal the claim but the appeals process can take 6 months to 2 years to complete. For many veterans who know they're being discharged (like myself) this is simply too long to sit around doing nothing. One of the members of my platoon has no feeling in the right side of his body due to a stroke he had in Iraq. He has been rated at 20%. He has no choice to appeal in order to take care of his family. I'll be taking my 10% severance package and getting the hell out of this mess.
The DOD has been pouring millions of dollars into the medical system claiming that they're offering the best possible services to our injured veterans. In actuality these dollars are going to furnish the injured soldiers barracks with 32" flat panel televisions and wifi internet access. While this is great, what it should be going to is offering adequate compensation to our soldiers who will be permanently disabled because of their service. In fact, just recently the Secretary of the Army visited our unit to talk with the injured soldiers back from Iraq who are here. I wasn't there but from what I was told by others it sounded like he was only concerned in hearing about things improving with the healthcare system we have. All the while the guys in the meeting were trying to explain what was still wrong. He didn't want to hear the negative though, which there is plenty to talk about.
If I sound bitter, it's because I am! - greensky, on 05/04/2008, -1/+28Once they figure it's been sunny like 3 of the last 90 days they'll think differently about moving here anyway.
- Hortnon, on 05/03/2008, -1/+28Sen Hagel from Nebraska (along with 31 others) is trying to enhance the GI Bill to bring it more in line with what it was when he served. It would be specifically for veterans of the War on Terror (post 9/11 service).

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h2702/show 91 House sponsors - brokenex, on 05/04/2008, -3/+29This is nothing new at all. I am getting 4 free years at any state college in Wisconsin because my dad is a disabled vet. Wisconsin doesn't even require the veteran to be 100%. If anyone of your parents are veterans and are disabled AT ALL you get free tuition
- agentshiro, on 05/04/2008, -0/+25The Oregon Trail game
- Klainmeister, on 05/04/2008, -4/+26Shhhhh....Don't tell anyone because then they'll start moving here.
Like those damn Californians! - djSyndrome, on 05/04/2008, -3/+20The only thing wrong with this law is that the federal government didn't implement it first.
- BurningSky, on 05/04/2008, -2/+16A small step in the right direction. Let's get our population educated..:-)
- Inri137, on 05/04/2008, -0/+13Sad that it took a state resolution to get this to happen. Congress needs to catch up. Good on Oregon for setting an example for the rest of the country.
- gemlarin, on 05/04/2008, -1/+12As a Disabled Veteran, I salute you Oregon.
- sarge96, on 05/04/2008, -0/+10Dugg for Oregon!
- Lax32, on 05/04/2008, -1/+11Thats awesome.
I still think the whole nation should adopt what Georgia does though... the Georgia lottery funds the Hope scholarship, which gives full tuition to any undergrad with over a 3.0 going to a public university. Its amazing. - amoirae, on 05/04/2008, -0/+9He went 2 Prince's Glam Slam University.
- gypsi, on 05/04/2008, -1/+9how about keeping servicemen out of ***** wars?
- notadiggtard, on 05/04/2008, -1/+9The lottery is a tax on people who can't do math.
- inactive, on 05/04/2008, -0/+8You must be in Portland. Southern Oregon is nice and sunny atm. And yea, down with Californians!
- queenstarsha, on 05/04/2008, -0/+8***** blue state liberals hate the troops.

Voting by mail is a gift from the gods, it's amazing. - JJCDAD, on 05/04/2008, -2/+9Another reason Oregon is awesome:
-Vote by mail (only). Polling places and voting machines are a huge waste. - queenstarsha, on 05/04/2008, -3/+9two more: rush limbaugh.
- kenwestin, on 05/04/2008, -0/+6..microbrews, ocean and snowbording two hours from portland, windsurfing in The Gorge, you can still afford a house here, decent schools and some of the weirdest f*cking people in the world. I love it here.
- dikaiosyne, on 05/04/2008, -0/+6As a graduate of the University of Oregon (1994) and active duty Army soldier (14 years), I salute you Oregon.
/salute - queenstarsha, on 05/04/2008, -0/+6nope. obama supporter. never bought a ticket. i think lottery players are the idjits who think their vote doesn't count.
- solo1181, on 05/04/2008, -1/+7UW-Madison is one of the best state schools in the country, and the city of Madison is also among the best. So shut up. Your remark is neither clever or funny.
- noahhoward, on 05/04/2008, -2/+8Nothing is ever truly free
- MadOtaku, on 05/04/2008, -0/+6One of the first places in the world to allow you to commit doctor assisted suicide.
One of the strongest free speech definitions in the world (that anyone may express any opinion using any medium; even lap-dances are protected by it [it held up in court]).
Separation of church and state that far exceeds the federal.
Medical marijuana.
And much much more than I care to type out.
Oregon is a very progressive state in many ways. We have some shames like banning gay marriage (which we're now working on undoing by constitutional amendment), we are quite liberal. - inactive, on 05/04/2008, -8/+14Two words: Fox News.
- TheSabre, on 05/04/2008, -2/+7At least he spelled "you" the way it is meant to be spelled. Where did "u" go to school? Arkansas?
- mal1964, on 05/04/2008, -0/+5Cheers!
- crapmatic, on 05/04/2008, -0/+5Now that's what I call supporting the troops. Not just putting a bumper sticker on the SUV.
- Thumper13, on 05/04/2008, -0/+5That's funny. I'm a Republican, in Oregon, and I couldn't support this more.
Republican FOR Obama! How's that tickle you? - tomjm5000, on 05/04/2008, -2/+7Psh, even my lovely New Jersey has full service gas.
Though I hear the weed is significantly danker out there. - PabloMac, on 05/04/2008, -0/+5Veterans have signed to put their lives on the line for their fellow citizens.
Semper Fidelis. - paulmer2003, on 05/04/2008, -0/+5Every time I read about a position of Hagel's in the news, I always find myself in agreement.
- Wronghead, on 05/04/2008, -1/+6Don't ever compare Oregon to Alabama again. Just don't.
- amoirae, on 05/04/2008, -1/+6Then don't live in Oregon, bitch.
Some of us love it here. - PabloMac, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4lovely ≠ New Jersey
- kreneskyp, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4wow. this made me glad to be an oregonian and a staff member at OSU.
- aadyss, on 05/04/2008, -1/+5What?
- inactive, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4Yes, confirmed. :D
- inverselogic, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4and the shins...
- TheZorch, on 05/04/2008, -0/+4This is what TRUE patriotism is. Bravo Oregon! Patriotism isn't sitting by and letting your government do whatever it wants and not say a word, but sadly that's the message the media is dishing out these days that Patriotism is being a good quiet citizen while the government does what it wants without consequence.
- willk281, on 05/04/2008, -2/+6At least they're doing something with that full service gas tax everyone has to pay
- AgentMull, on 05/04/2008, -4/+8And the Decemberists.
