Opposition to Mosques Grows in Germany
spiegel.de — The planned construction of over 180 mosques in Germany is mobilizing right-wing xenophobes but also an increasing number of leftist critics. They fear the Muslim places of worship will facilitate the establishment of a completely parallel society.

- lostlyrics, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2a very decent article, extensively researched.
btw a decency, I would also expect from a religious
concept, as regarding some of the projected 'brands'
for some reasons I doubt :D that even the catholics came
to the idea of naming a jerusalem cathedral 'richard lionheart'
- lajaw, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Europe should take notice before they are conquered through attrition. Why are the Western civilizations practicing an open door policy for the poor of the world? Shouldn't the correct path be to help folks take control of their governments where they live instead of allowing them to eventually overtake a country by shear numbers? What are we doing to ourselves?
- 808ethan, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3Countries should require a certain amount of cultural assimilation in order to get a visa to live or work there.
- fadeout, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1The German basic law is overly-PC, obviously as a result of the Holocaust having been so fresh a memory when it was written. They're just now waking up to the fact that blindly allowing immigration without integration might not be the best idea. They let WAY too many Turks in as temporary workers, whose children are not German nor really Turkish, and no one knows what to do about it. They did not even try to integrate.
I hope they come to a common sense conclusion, as putting it off just gives fuel for the right wingers and drives the first generation Muslims towards their own extremism. I think we all know what that means, in both cases.
(My parents are from Germany, so I absorb some German news. This stuff is pretty much ignored in the outside press.) - sfaiku, on 07/17/2008, -0/+0Europe has a history of violent action when sufficiently riled. I'll follow this situation with interest. My prediction is they will be well behind at halftime, but by the end of the game the opposing team will be annihilated. (And then, in 50 years or so, they can say how guilty they feel.)
