Only now, the full horror of Burmese junta's repression of monks emerges
news.independent.co.uk — "When there were demonstrations and soldiers on the streets, the world was watching. But now the soldiers only come at night. They take anyone they can identify from their videos. People who clapped, who offered water to the monks, who knelt and prayed as they passed. It is now we are most fearful. It is now we need the world to help us."

- 309east, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Unfortunately the world wont be doing much supporting. Most of those currently in power are privately applauding, and hoping the exposure their populations are getting from this story slowly desensitizes them, so they don't complain as much once they start visiting atrocities upon their own citizens.
- reeder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yet another bitter condemnation of humanity. Shame on us all, including myself.
- neognostic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Not to worry, Bush has assembled his host to vanquish the beast! His wife asked the junta to step aside......................sigh
- neuralzen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just keep digging! Keep these stories in the lights of our ADD culture so its on everyones mind...please, don't stop digging!
- neognostic, on 10/15/2007, -1/+0Digg? Call/email/write a letter/send a smoke signal to your congressman/senator................so sad.
- Dayyve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Repugnant. Disgusting. I feel so damn helpless and sickened for what those monks are going through, all for the sake of trying to bring a democracy and peaceful social environment to the people of Myanmar. They have done nothing but protest peacefully, and this is their reward. Why the FOOK can we not go help them achieve democracy??? While people on these boards have pissing matches between Europe, America, Canada, Aus, et al, nobody realizes how easy they all have it and how GD whiny everybody is. WE NEED TO START OUR OWN ARMY, ALL GOOD PEOPLE VOLUNTEERING FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD WHO ARE FED UP WITH THIS SH!TE. I would gladly go sign up for any organization that would go to battle and help these monks and the people of Myanmar/Burma achieve the goal of living in peace of prosperity.
- humann, on 10/14/2007, -0/+0We're too busy fighting for democracy where there's lots of oil. These damn orange robe guys are as much of a nuisance as the ones who burned themselves in Viet-Nam. Democracy isn't for everyone. Heck, even we Uh-mairkans only implement a bit of the idea. It's a concept we use to pretend we're fair or that we care about anybody who can't afford to buy congress or the Executive (Long May He Reign!) to do their work for them. Long live President Bush! Long Live the WOT! I mean the War On Truth!
