- Dariana, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8For those of you who think this is stupid, let me say this. My friend and her family have lost their son due to this horrific shooting tragedy and we were discussing this campaign via phone this morning. Her family is very touched by this. So when you say this is stupid and serves no purpose, at least one family says you are wrong, people are touched by this. I am grateful to whomever created this and so is my friends family. Any tribute to these people at all is a way of reaching out and saying we care.
- Neagrigore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is at least one could do to honor their remembrance. I was so touched by the stories of heroism of professor Librescu, it is so sad that they had to go in such a way. Hopefully those responsible with gun limitation will come to their senses. What happened there is entirely sick.

It is pretty good linkbait however. - Steli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Please read this post: http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/04/17/silence-is-a-memoriam-not-a-reason-to-stop-blogging/
it put tears in my eyes. - mamillion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The beauty of this lies in its simplicity. Simply superb!
- 1KrazyKorean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A moment of silence IMO gives respect to those people that did not make it thru this ordeal. They atleast deserve a day for themselves. This event does hit close to home, when my roommates cousin lives in the dorms there, and he luckily slept in that day and missed class.
- netsyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From the website:
But it´s not only about them. Many bloggers have responded and asked about all the other victims of our world. All the people who die every day. What about them?
This day can be a symbol of support to all the victims of our world!
All you have to do is spread the word about it and post the graphic on your blog on 30th April 2007. No words and no comments. Just respect, reflect and empathy.

I'll be joining this, but not just for VT - sandbar3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am in. For all of those negative comments on this about how stupid this is- well I am sure it is not "stupid" to those that are grieving the loss of their sister, brother, daughter, son. friend or co-worker. Yes, many people do die in war, but in war-men go in knowing that they may be killed! They go into the armed forces knowing that they are defending their country! This is totally different! I love this idea and I think the families of the victums need this kind of respect. The entire VT community needs this respeact. They just need silence and need to be alone with no comments----and I will send this out to as many people as I can.
- evnucci, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Excellent idea. Now lets see if the guys at Digg pay attention to this...or if they are too busy puffing up themselves and driving traffic to places that don't need traffic. That should be enlightening and tell us a whole lot about the Diggers.
so lets go Diggers are you big boys or are you LITTLE MEN??????? Is all about sending traffic to places that don't need traffic or is it about the value you can create in life? Because from what I've seen so far you guys aren't about value, you're about BS. I'm not talking about Diggs founders. I'm talking about the guys that Digg stuff. And I don't see them on this list yet. So that tells me a whole lot. - EastVanEsica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sometimes silence is all people can give.
There will be many people talking.
There will be many people listening.
To listen one must be silent. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes I will be participating in this also.
- B4202, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm in.
- petdance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A day without posting on my blog? That's no trouble at all! That's normal for me!
This is probably the ultimate in slacktivism. - manuk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A small gesture. But why April30th, why not today, tomorrow, or the day after?
Still count me in! - macewan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Especially those agreeing to observe the day and including a link to their sites.
- jenbriese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I for one like the idea, not just for the Virginia Tech students, which I feel deeply for don't get me wrong, but as a way to show our heartfelt feelings of loss for all of those loved ones that have been lost to us thru violent acts. I will be in on this as my way of saying that I believe if we all band together maybe we can stop some of this senseless violence.

http://myveryowninternets.blogspot.com/ - grandmagrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://grandparents-life.blogspot.com will be participating in silence on April 30 in memory of the victims who died as well as in support of the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy. It is also in support of staff and students who were injured.
- bradleyd00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love this idea... Simple, respectful... my prayers are with the families.
- sandbar3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am in. Yes, many people do die in war, but in war-men go in knowing that they may be killed! They go into the armed forces knowing that they are defending their country! - Steli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Mightydavefish - I am sorry but you just lost a nickle ;) Three twenty somethings from turkey, greece and germany started this.
How do I know? Well, guess :) - mary001, on 08/12/2008, -0/+0hi
Yes, I too, if we all together, we can
http://www.treatmentcenters.org/virginia - likegravity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Except for the fact that a website has been created for this purpose, and so it won't benefit any bloggers with link-ins. I think this is a wonderful idea, and Lorelle's post (see below) just solidified that.
http://melilyn.com will be joining. - jpjha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Me too
http://jalaj.wordpress.com/ - hawksdomain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm there. I fully support this. Those who don't think that this is beneficial don't see that this is in honor of the families and people who have had their lives changed forever. Yes, blogs are used to discuss many things, and let's face it, there is a lot being said about Monday's events all over online. This is to honor the victims (ALL of Virginia Tech).
I do agree that it would be wonderful to organize something for all victims of violence. I just think that those who may post that they are doing this for all victims of violence in conjunction with this event on April 30 are saying that the Virginia Tech tragedy isn't important enough to have it's own day. That the lives lost on that day on campus aren't important enough. Don't make this into something it's not. Respect it and all of Virginia by participating (or not) for the sake of the survivors of Virginia Tech. - jrdorkin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1in
- jhsiess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm in. I've already added the badge and posted about it on my site.
I have also enabled Mr. Linky so if you are participating, please stop by my blog and leave your link so that folks can see how many of us are doing this!
Thanks! - RevQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Despite my plan for now posting at least once a day to my cycling blog http://revq.blogspot.com , both it and my seo blog http://www.sigil.co.za/blog will be silent that day. This was an horrific act of barbarism. A silent day on the blogs, is the equivalent of a minute of silence. It is a sign of respect and sorrow
- paulanthony, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.guineapiggy.com will be silence

I will be silent on Monday, April 30, 2007, in memory and remembrance of Virginia Tech - for those who were killed and those who knew and loved them; and, in honor of all those who have been killed in war (declared and undeclared), raids, blunders, invasions and other senseless acts of violence. "..when will we ever learn...?" - Gramo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Count us in too!

A friend of mine, lost her cousin to this tragedy. Her cousin was shot in the stomach and died this afternoon. - kesamaa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Sounds good. I'm in!
http://kesamaa.com/ - LeoChiang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0In solemn memory . . .
- TheszEyz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0A wonderful gesture of heartfelt love!
- CapnCornflake, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5This whole thing sounds like a way for a circle of blogs to capitalize on this tradgedy.
Lets start placing bets as to how many visitors and link-ins the guy who started this is going to get from this. - RoQu3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Oh please, this idea is so stupid.
- manuk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2A small gesture. But why April30th, why not today, tomorrow, or the day after?
Still count me in!
http://manukhanna.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Bet you a nickle this plan was thought up by the mainstream media.
- HSchwarzkopf, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Let's talk about the tragedy instead, being quiet about the whole thing doesn't have any significance. I say, bad idea.
- fmeichel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3me too !

will be silent on 30-April. - ChrisGwynne, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1This is stupid. Do we hold a one day blog silence for the deaths in Iraq, or for people who get murdered on the streets every day? No, we don't. But when it's a catastrophe in America we all rush round to show some solidarity and support. In the grand scheme of things, what are you hoping to achieve by uniting a few hundred blogs?
- Steli, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0I don´t know how the whole thing sounds - but you will loose everything you bet on. Believe me.
I am an insider. I started this.
