- MookiBlaylock, on 06/20/2008, -6/+505I would probably kick my teacher in the head if they tried that on me.
- chrgrose, on 06/21/2008, -13/+401"With the exception of the cross-burning episode ... I believe John Freshwater is teaching the values of the parents in the Mount Vernon school district,"
....well if that doesn't make you question how ***** retarded your beliefs are, I don't know what will. - TheCarDude, on 06/20/2008, -53/+439damn jesus freaks.

Heres a quote from another article I googled:
"We are religious people, but we were offended when Mr. Freshwater burned a cross onto the arm of our child. This was done in science class in December 2007, where an electric shock machine was used to burn our child. The burn was severe enough that our child awoke that night with severe pain, and the cross remained there for several weeks."

Sure hes a religious nut, but its something else altogether when you burn your students as part of a class. - kent1146, on 06/21/2008, -4/+321"I like your Christ. I don't like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
-Mohandas Ghandi - prompel, on 06/21/2008, -21/+207Yeah, that'll teach 'em!
- What did you learn in school today?
- Christians are crazy. - daonlyfreez, on 06/21/2008, -25/+143Hmm, doesn't this somehow sound familiar?
"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
– Rev. 13:16-17"
So, it is obvious, following the socalled "Christian logic", that this man is a follower of the "Dark side", heck, he was probably only "testing" the mark burning...
But no: "He is a good Christian, he was only following the believes of the parents"
Sick b*st*rds. - lquid, on 06/21/2008, -2/+119And this guy is not in some kind of jail because?
- Evie1851, on 06/21/2008, -0/+98here is the link where you can watch him dodge questions asked by a reporter. He doesn't really answer anything she asks him.

and as far as this article- This part was my favorite:
"With the exception of the cross-burning episode ... I believe John Freshwater is teaching the values of the parents in the Mount Vernon school district"
So...except for the whole branding a cross on students' arms thing..he's a super dude! Thumbs up!
What a douche. - EarlOfLade, on 06/21/2008, -1/+83It's like saying "... except for raping that girl, he was an excellent teacher..."
- wyrdness, on 06/21/2008, -2/+81I'd burn a pentagram onto him.
- mrzeero, on 06/21/2008, -4/+81"Freshwater used a science tool known as a high-frequency generator to burn images of a cross on students' arms in December"
Or as he called it, the magical cross burning tool.
"Other findings show that Freshwater taught that carbon dating was unreliable to argue against evolution."
What a *****. He should be forbidden from teaching anywhere. - inactive, on 06/21/2008, -1/+71a roundhouse kick?
- kingoftonga, on 06/21/2008, -1/+66I actually live a few miles from this school. Apparently the old superintendent of the district was a whimp and never did anything about this guy, but most students and parents knew to stay away from his class. Still, quite a few students took it because apparently "God" was a sufficient answer on any one of his tests, so it was easy to get an A.
They recently got a new superintendent who actually listened to the parents' complaints. The burning incident probably helped push things along too. - xkorbin, on 06/21/2008, -1/+61Look digg! I found one!
- pintomp3, on 06/21/2008, -4/+64no one expects the american inquisition.
- sk11, on 06/21/2008, -3/+62How could he be a satanist if he doesn't believe there's a god? Do you mean he believed satan was god, but then your point would be moot?
- Antz0rz, on 06/21/2008, -4/+59if someone burned a cross on me I'd light them on fire
- inactive, on 06/21/2008, -7/+62Bleh, according to Leviticus, people who wear glasses, huntchbacks and dwarves can't find God and will end up in hell. (21:20-21)
And in exodus, it says people who work on saturday must be put to death. (35:2)
It's all pretty stupid. - sl123000, on 06/21/2008, -2/+54No cursing on the internet.
- ijwhelan, on 06/21/2008, -2/+54Me too, and I'm Catholic.
- xenuxenuts, on 06/21/2008, -0/+50the kid was obviously a vampire. I surprised the guy didn't sneak in his bed room and stake him in his sleep.
- Spanktacular, on 06/21/2008, -15/+64Doesn't matter. You don't see atheists burning atomic symbols, or the face of Charles Darwin in kids' arms, do you?
Nope. It's mega-church preachers shooting dope and nailing male prostitutes, cheating on taxes, stealing from their congregations, molesting women and girls, and priests raping boys.
But, we continually look to religion for moral guidance. Religion. The institutions of which that happen to be populated by thieves, rapists, and pederasts. But, nobody in America would elect an atheist.
Pretty ***** up country we've got. - Stroggoth, on 06/21/2008, -2/+50"With the exception of the cross-burning episode ... I believe John Freshwater is teaching the values of the parents in the Mount Vernon school district," he told The Columbus Dispatch in a story published Friday."
Imagine if this f*** had been an atheist and burned an evo-fish on his arm; imagine what the parents and school would have done to him then... but hey, he's christian teaching proper god-as-dictator values, so no worries, burn away!
Send this bastard to jail for physical assault where he belongs. - daonlyfreez, on 06/21/2008, -6/+54@Macksfield: I suppose your posting was a reply to mine?
Whoosh... (you missed the point I made)
I consider myself a christian (that is christian, _not_ Christian with a capital C), but one of the "don't judge others" kind, and I refuse to be lumped into one pool with the hate-filled, phobic-of-everyone-not-in-their-church, war-mongering, "God will punish you", creationist so-called "Christians", of which this fine man seems an excellent example.
I'm simply abhorred by the "defense" this man gets, the arguments used, I'm not taking this guy as a general example of all christians, not at all. I only used "arguments" some of the wacked-out "Christians" use to "undermine" their arguments.
"Withthe exception of the cross-burning episode ... I believe JohnFreshwater is teaching the values of the parents in the Mount Vernonschool district"
... that one disgusts me. - pinguwin, on 06/21/2008, -1/+48I'd probably aim lower.
- Coven, on 06/21/2008, -0/+46Its different when you pay somebody to do it.
- inactive, on 06/21/2008, -6/+51"Those Jesus Freaks, well they're friendly, but, the ***** they believe has got their minds all shut."
- Frank Zappa - dunderballer, on 06/21/2008, -3/+46CNN reports of previous evidence that Mr. Freshwater told his students "science is wrong because the Bible states that homosexuality is a sin and so anyone who is gay chooses to be gay and is therefore a sinner."
Had he been fired for that, further abuse could have possibly been avoided. He better be criminally charged for the burning. - inactive, on 06/21/2008, -1/+35God made Satan.
So god is responsible for all evil. - Lucas123, on 06/21/2008, -3/+37A very, very troubled man.
- DisposableRob, on 06/21/2008, -9/+43This has everything to do with politics. Guess which party is trying to get the bible taught as history, teach creationism in science class and wants the Ten Commandments in the courtrooms? There are two. One is the Constitution Party. Guess what the other party is?
- virtualball, on 06/21/2008, -1/+34Another shining example of my state :(
- franklymister, on 06/21/2008, -10/+43I don't see this as being any different than the so-called "teacher" who was indoctrinating her students with Intifada posters and Malcolm X speeches.
School is for learning facts and critical thinking, not opinions, not politics, not religion.
It's important to note that he didn't brand his students with a hot iron or anything - he used a high-frequency energy generator, which leaves a mark for a few days, max. Still ***** irresponsible and wrong, but not permanent.
Anyhow, fire his ass, maybe let him start a charter school with Karen Salzaar: http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/88845/ - Elranzer, on 06/21/2008, -1/+33"He also DID teach evolution, but also taught creationism so the students could hear both perspectives."
Those aren't "both perspectives". Creationism is not the other side of the evolution coin. You can believe the theory of evolution or not, but creationism is not the ying to evolution's yang.
Creationism is solely a Christian dogmatic myth. If you want to argue teaching it in a science class, you would also have to teach the Native American lore of creation, the Greek myth of creation, the Hindu and Shinto creation myths, etc. - inactive, on 06/21/2008, -4/+34Yep, but when you point out Jesus not talking about homosexuality at all, they fall back to the "religion 101. It is the Holy Trinity. All of it is God's word."
Then, you point out these things, and it is "well, it isn't all supposed to be followed".
Anything to keep their bigotry and hatred alive... - a1cd, on 06/21/2008, -1/+29It took them THREE HOURS to decide to fire him?
- grungegbunny, on 06/21/2008, -3/+30The scary part to me it seemed his in-class preaching had been going on for quite some time. It's a total sham something major like this has to happen in order for religion to finally get the boot out of this class room. How many other schools is this going on in and still kept quiet? That is what concerns me.
- TrentSteel590, on 06/21/2008, -6/+32The power of Christ compels you!
-aroma of burnt flesh - thereisnostate, on 06/21/2008, -10/+36Welcome to religion.
- ijwhelan, on 06/21/2008, -12/+37She is definitely a fanatic. Burning crosses on peoples arms isn't encouraged by any religion I know of lol.
- Spiffjiggins, on 06/21/2008, -3/+28He's a Christian.
- 1337chic, on 06/21/2008, -1/+26Except for the whole cult mass murder thing Manson was also a pretty cool guy. . .
- unknownpoltroon, on 06/21/2008, -0/+25He is so full of *****. He dodged EVERY question.
- inactive, on 06/21/2008, -1/+25My mom doesn't claim to be a perfect and all knowing being.
Are you saying God didn't know what he was doing?
Please do. - arobicha, on 06/21/2008, -6/+29He's a religious nut who believes the people he preaches to are like Cattle... That they need to be branded. What was the euphemism most christians use to describe the masses? Sheep? hmm...
- inactive, on 06/21/2008, -0/+23@scycon
You just MADE MY POINT. In that same chapter of Leviticus, it says it is an abomination to eat shellfish, or wear woven clothing, but you just ignore that.
This is EXACTLY the "Holy Trinity" crap I was talking about. I appreciate you pointing out how perfectly correct I am in Christians picking and choosing, so they can't promote their own brand of intolerance.
Thanks again! - Dumbledorito, on 06/21/2008, -0/+22By the way, you kind of tip your hand there by equating all non-Christians with Satanists.
You might also want to avoid the old misconception that athiests really DO believe in Jesus, but have instead chosen to deny him in anger or some other rubbish. -
