- BlacklabelSAR, on 11/12/2009, -20/+109Spend the money on Americans health care instead, like they do in every other industrialized nation.
every other industrialized nation... - durruticolumn, on 11/12/2009, -4/+80
Let's hope this is true. The military's interest is in military objectives, the white house should be interested in political objectives. The military was given terrible political objectives that it was then forced to solve using military means. The military is focused on their objectives (which is fine, that's their job), but the white house has to recognize that there are many different methods to solving a political situation. - gcnaddict, on 11/12/2009, -7/+58Holy *****, we have a lot of neocon lunatics in here tonight.
He didn't pick any of the "options" the Pentagon presented him with because none of them had a clear and definite plan for actually getting out. You guys could've at leas read the article before you ramped up the hate machine. - Diefree, on 11/12/2009, -8/+53Yet if he had you guys on the right would knock him for that too. Just admit no matter what he does the you are going to have a problem with him.
- growvideos, on 11/12/2009, -14/+58I got one... get out!
- iamdan1, on 11/12/2009, -8/+52How dare our President look over all the options and instead of making an uninformed decisions, wait until he knows all the options to make the best possible solution.
All sarcasm aside, if he commits more troops the conservatives will say that he is going against what he said in his campaign to get the troops out, if he removes the troops, the conservatives will say he doesn't understand the dangers of Afghanistan and is abandoning the troops already there. He is going to be heavily criticized either way, so I don't blame him for waiting until he can make the best solution. - lennynumberone, on 11/12/2009, -5/+48Decisive? You mean when the WTC fell on 9/11 he didn't just sit there and do nothing with those kids he was reading a book to? He actually was decisive?
I do agree with you about Bush having his decisive moments. For instance.
He was decisive when he:
- Went into Iraq illegally for revenge and hung Saddam Hussein who BTW we put into power
- Allowed people to be tortured
Yeah, he's decidedly an idiot. - pilot3033, on 11/12/2009, -6/+48Good. We don't need more troops overseas, we need a better strategy to get out as seamlessly and feasible to avoid further destruction on both sides.
- ThatNeilDude, on 11/12/2009, -5/+43Let's get the ***** out of there!
- elliotys, on 11/12/2009, -10/+46@BotchaMcCoola
Liberals wasting hundreds of billions? Already forgot the previous 8 years huh? - Bartboy919, on 11/12/2009, -11/+47Lets not over generalize you Civil rights hating conservative.
- elliotys, on 11/12/2009, -7/+42So wait, not sending off 30,000 more troops to a very dangerous country and war, means he doesn't care for them? Check your math buddy.
- BasalCellBossk, on 11/12/2009, -4/+38And he consistently made the worst possible decisions. That's why we voted for a guy who thinks things through, we saw the results of hiring an idiot.
- BabyFirefly, on 11/12/2009, -13/+43I have a solution. Give Afghanistan back to the Afghans.
Fix your own country. - elliotys, on 11/12/2009, -2/+32It's like we already forgot what happened to the Russians there in the 80's. I rather not see my country slowly bleed to death trying to bring freedom to the backwaters of the world.
- andrewh7, on 11/12/2009, -1/+25Bush spent $3 trillion for Iraq and left office with 1.2 trillion budget deficit. Was he a liberal?
- stevenwalters, on 11/12/2009, -1/+24Why dont you explain why sacrificing these very troops for a hopeless cause is somehow patriotic?
Why do you hate our troops so much? Why do you feel they should die, so that a few people can get rich? What the ***** is wrong with you?
I can't BELIEVE you think you're somehow being supportive of the troops by supporting these wars. - c010rb1indusa, on 11/12/2009, -5/+24yes every other industrialized nation is bankrupt because of government healthcare /s
every other developed country has government healthcare of some kind and has better and cheaper healthcare because of it.

that's the US way down at number 37 just behind costa rica! - manlyandy, on 11/12/2009, -2/+21You're right! We should have some sort of agency of intelligence that tries to prevent these things in the planning phase and then send a memo to the president to take action.
- stevenwalters, on 11/12/2009, -3/+21We actually waited till Bush did something ***** retarded before we started railing him. Obama hasn't even raised taxes yet, and already you people "aren't going to take it anymore!"
- bdfariello, on 11/12/2009, -0/+18Maybe he saw The Daily Show last night and realized occupying Afghanistan is absolutely retarded.
- enantiodromia, on 11/12/2009, -1/+16so you think if we spent $1,000,000,000 on beefing up our national security, here, that would be money less well spent than a war which costs billions of dollars a month to just "be" there?
seems like we could have trained about a million air marshals and airport swat teams for that much money, and still had enough to invest in energy sources which don't depend on playing nice with terrorists.
this "ostrich" you speak of, he's happy when we write huge checks to the defense contractors, because he gets to see ***** blown up on TV before he puts his head into the sand at night to sleep. do you really think we are "safer" now, a trillion dollars later?
i don't - BasalCellBossk, on 11/12/2009, -2/+16No, this is basically saying that he's planning to put the Afghans in charge and gtfo.
- thisthatwhat, on 11/12/2009, -4/+18The war is costing billions per month. Stop wasting it on the war and keep that money in the US to pay for health care and creating new jobs!
- Kaegro, on 11/12/2009, -1/+14@Skywyse:
I'm Canadian and I can assure you that we don't ration health care. Not like your beloved free market insurance ***** in any case. - Vindicoth, on 11/12/2009, -7/+20One thing is clear from the wackjob comments. Nothing Obama EVER does will please the crazies. Even if it was the exact thing they want him to do.
- enantiodromia, on 11/12/2009, -4/+17sort of like your tired trolling. you can't stand not making some stupid statement.
tell you what, next time you want to say something dumb, just say "present", ok? - durruticolumn, on 11/12/2009, -2/+15
Given 918 casualties in the 8 years where Bush "commanded" the army, that's an average of around 9 soldiers per month.
Now how many will die if he stays in Afghanistan perpetually, which has been our plan so far? - algaeturd, on 11/12/2009, -5/+17How about a republican that would spend 9 trillion dollars of your grandkids' money to wage an unnecessary war against Iraq?
That's what I thought. STFU. - enantiodromia, on 11/12/2009, -3/+15it is funny when they mention how he's "just like bush", yet they still hate him.
- pootpoot, on 11/12/2009, -1/+13Two wrongs don't make a right, thcobbs.
There are plenty on the right and left who don't strictly walk along party lines, but sadly, those voices were muffled amongst all the partisan bickering. - shdwfx, on 11/12/2009, -0/+12@bigt383: he's being dugg down because his point is idiotic. The terrorists came from Saudi Arabia (15), UAE(2), Egypt (1) Lebanon (1). They got their flight training in California and Florida.
- andrewh7, on 11/12/2009, -1/+13He was fairly decisive in giving up his authority to Dick Cheney to take a dump on the constitution.
- drmangrum, on 11/12/2009, -0/+11What about them?
Last time I checked, they're a sovereign nation and a nuclear power to boot. They can take care of themselves. If they want help, they can go to the UN like all the other countries. - gcnaddict, on 11/12/2009, -3/+14Yes, you are.
He's saying he needs an option which clearly outlines when the US needs to get out and that he won't pick anything that flies with the assumption of an indefinite presence. - JStraum, on 11/12/2009, -2/+13FTA "Obama's top military advisers have said they are comfortable with the pace of the process, and senior military officials have pointed out that the president still has time since no additional forces could begin flowing into Afghanistan until early next year."
What part of that supports anything you just said?
High and dry my ass - Quit being such a piece of ***** whiner... - durruticolumn, on 11/12/2009, -1/+12
"He who has the biggest stick has the last word."
Tell that to Russia. And Britain. And Genghis Khan. - enantiodromia, on 11/12/2009, -3/+14grow up, junior
- Kranden, on 11/12/2009, -3/+14Mr President, we need to go either left or right on this issue.
What if we go straight up instead?
Good call! - 2Six119, on 11/12/2009, -0/+10***** Pakistan, ***** Afganistan, LETS FOCUS ON AMERICASTAN
- captininsanity, on 11/12/2009, -3/+13The worst part is we could fund healthcare for 10 years or more on what Bush spent per year on war...
- JStraum, on 11/12/2009, -2/+12FTA "Obama's top military advisers have said they are comfortable with the pace of the process, and senior military officials have pointed out that the president still has time since no additional forces could begin flowing into Afghanistan until early next year."
You're a presumptuous dumb ass - Xtortion08, on 11/12/2009, -2/+11CUT 'N RUN!!1!ONE!1
- pilot3033, on 11/12/2009, -1/+10the concept IS pretty simple, it's the execution that's the hard part. Hence why it's a good thing Obama is giving serious thought to the issue rather than mindlessly throwing troops at the problem.
- andrewh7, on 11/12/2009, -0/+9Hey, it's not like another superpower got bogged down in Afghanistan in a previous conflict, leading to their unexpected defeat in the face of insurgent population. Of wait...that did happen....USSR...I remember.
- Speed, on 11/12/2009, -0/+8Skywise, do you know how much health care premiums in Alberta are? Nothing. Until recently, they were like $50/month, that's it. Really, I do think we should bring back those premiums, but that's another argument. If you couldn't afford those premiums, they were subsidized. Most employers paid those premiums for their employees, in fact (including grocery stores). I can tell you, health care isn't rationed. Maybe I have to wait an extra week to get a non-emergency blood test, or a minor non-emergency surgery, but it's worth it. In the case of an emergency, I don't know of anyone that was just turned away, or has died waiting for care. I'd say that's worth it.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 11/12/2009, -0/+8Actually- Obama said that he would commit more troops to Afghanistan during his campaign.
@drmangrum-
I think the advisors are trying to give him what he wants, but nobody wants to give him the details on future withdrawal- which is what he really wants. A lot of news was that he was going to give almost everything the General in Afghanistan wants- but he wants a detailed plan of action on withdrawing forces asap. - zsavior, on 11/12/2009, -1/+9As said in Real time with BIll Mahr by Richard Belzar "Afghanistan is the Grave Yard of Empires". Obama needs to get the hell out, this land THRIVES on war and being the David to any Nations Goliath. Leave use the money for what ever other civilized country uses their war budgets for, which is bettering their country through positive Social and societal reform.
- Troika37, on 11/12/2009, -3/+11Obama votes 'present'.
As the Canadian poet Geddy Lee once said, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”
The consequences of inaction will not be pleasant. - rajj007, on 11/12/2009, -4/+11that is some very good news for world peace... Thanks Obama...
